A Cricut Question

Hi. I am a newbie to my new Cricut. Now when I cut out shapes and letters, how do I get details to them? What button should also be pushed? eg. On the Baseball cartridge I got a catcher cut out, but no details were cut. HELP:confused3

Is the baseball cartridge one of the solutions carts? If it is, make sure that the black out or shadow functions aren't on ( the light should be off). That way it won't cut as a solid shape.
