It was just another day in paradise - Orlando that is, and to be more exact - Epcot during the 2008 Food and Wine Festival. As F&W virgins, DH and I did not really know what to expect. We are local yocals and planned on splitting the World Showcase into 3 seperate visits over the next month. 2 booths in and we were addicted. This is a picture diary of DH, DS(2) and I at our first F&W. We purchased a $100 gift card, the cool one with the wristband. Then we were on our way.

Here is our ticket to the World

Our first line in Istanbul

Our first sample - beef ravioli with spiced yogurt sauce. Turned out to be our absolute fave!! We HIGHLY recommend you try this.

Chevre and Leek quiche and Chocolate Creme Brulee in France

Our son was IN LOVE!

I believe this was Morocco. It was a spicy chicken roll - not so spicy and a beef pita pocket with a cucumber and tomato salad on top, which was good. These seemed to have been the biggest portions of the day

This is a half eaten kiwi meringe tartlet - b/c I forgot to take the picture before I dove in. This is also the same booth where you get the lamb slider. It was too rare for me and too grisly for my husband. All in all, not a good booth for us.
http://c1.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/12/m_4278b561493a4770b2f0d4f4724b5720.jpg

Ireland made up for the previous booth. This is the potato leek soup - YUM and the potato pancake with a bacon filling and herb butter (so NOT on my weight watchers diet...lol)
http://c2.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/1/m_f6938147f77f43b08ccf0eb81a13ad65.jpg

We also had the cheese plate with apple chutney and brown soda bread from Ireland. Our son ate more of it than we did and the apple chutney was trash bin bound- YUCK

I forget what booth this was, but it was the first one to the right of World Showcase. They had frozen pina coladas and mojitos, each for $6.50. If you want alcoholic beverages, stick to the full size ones. Most of them are only a dollar or so more than this one and you get about twice or 3 times more. We heard lots of rave reviews of the Mango thing in China. I would have much preferred 8bucks on a Grey Goose Slush...
http://c4.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/15/m_a5189df7468841d9bc102953035a238f.jpg

But the food here was awesome - this is a beef and sweet plantain casserole. Oh yeah babe!!
http://c3.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/36/m_2fc2f397e2fc4b5cacd4d7bbae36812a.jpg

I forget where the beef with chimichurri came from but it was DAMN good. I think it came from Mexico?? The chimichurri was the best I'd ever had. Super fresh tasting.
http://c2.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/29/m_251d9b39701149198a5cf6aef4f72cf1.jpg

Chilequiles - one of my absolute favorite dishes and Epcot did it nicely! This one was white corn tortillas (I believe), cheese and chicken topped with a green salsa and sour cream. I was so glad DH didn't like it.
http://c2.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/36/m_db91c6674a9a4aedb1c3213fe658f059.jpg

And he was glad I wouldn't eat this one. Seared tuna loin with roasted red peppers and toast. He thought it was awesome and he HATES seafood. KUDOS to him for trying something new. Better man than me.
http://c1.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/39/m_3f1d2a883d524dd88b354a88634a23c8.jpg

This one was pretty darn good. Don't remember where it came from. It was hard to keep track...lol We ate a LOT of food. Boiled beef brisket with red potatoes and creamy horseradish. I believe it was Austria??
http://c2.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/3/m_37978b519a1c4c8b8b5c451e790d5855.jpg

This one was a miss for me. Sorry - but the Chicken Sha Cha was toooo oily and left a terrible after taste. The pork potstickers tasted like any old restaurant appetizer.
http://c1.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/22/m_adbc9c80756247ad845bc0b28fcc218c.jpg

Italy was another miss - perhaps it is because I am Italian. Perhaps because it is mass produced. Either way, the ziti was bland and rubbery. The cream puffs with mascarpone cheese and Gianduja chocolate were boring. It was like frozen puff pastry covered in chocolate pudding.
http://c2.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/45/m_50394d3e864a448bb447638d425cdf59.jpg

Last stop - because I had to try them. Lamb chop, which was half wonderful and half too rare for me. Then there was the waddleseed dessert. Do NOT ask me what a waddleseed is or what it tastes like. I am thankful this dessert tasted like tiramisu (which is my fave dessert). If that is what waddleseed tastes like, I guess I like them...lol
http://c3.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/57/m_30bc72efeba348f2ba793efc07e1add2.jpg

And DH still had room for beer. That was $11.50 btw and you keep the plastic mug.
http://c2.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/5/m_bdc14a9b9ec64eefab53b4b3aa353ee9.jpg

I promised DH the beer so I missed out on S. Africa and the Durban chicken and bobotie. I guess we will have to go back in a week or so. I really want more beef ravioli anyway.

Hey Donald, want to lick my fingers? I ate good today!

It was a good day. It was a long day. It was good to take a break half way through to let DS2 play in the water and ride in the big ball for the first time. Then, he konked out and we opted to finish the rounds.

We only went over by 57cents. We did skip a few booths because they were primarily seafood or the lines weren't moving at all. They had a lot of register problems at nearly every booth. We only had 2 alcoholic beverages and we shared every plate instead of getting one for each of us. By the time we got home, I was sucking on a Pepto Bismol bottle like I had reverted back to infancy. Now, I am singing the Pepto Bismol Blues. Every hour until I feel better. How's the song go? Nausea? check! Heartburn? check! Indigestion? Check! At least it doesn't get any worse than that.

Oh boy, I"m starting to rethink the Food and Wine Fest. I should say, I want so desperately to do the Wine and Food Fest, but I don't think my stomache will be able to take it. Thanks for the all the pictures. It's nice that you posted here.

Thanks so much for the great review! :thumbsup2 I can't wait to hear about your next day trip to F&W Fest! :surfweb: I have two questions for you - did you use the whole $100 gift card (I probably know the answer to that already ;) ) and did you have any problem checking out with the gift card? Last year, it seemed like they were having some problems with gift cards/credit cards. I'm glad you enjoyed your 1st F&W tour! :goodvibes

We did spend the whole $100. We actually went over by 57cents - thanks to DH having to have the commemorative F&W beer mug...The only thing not pictured that we spent our $100 on was the lamb slider. The average was about $3.00 per plate. It was a good time but we left feeling very bloated and hot and tired. Today, I am various shades of pink, but at least the shades of green are gone :thumbsup2
There were register problems at nearly every booth. Some booths had cash only lines and we went to one booth where they had a guy walking the line with a mobile register to get the line moving quicker. That was awesome. The card caused problems several times for us. But I still think it was quicker than trying to dig cash out of our pockets each time...

Wow! What a wonderful review! I'm so glad you had an awesome day! We are going as well for the first time in Novemeber so this was SO helpful! Okay, 2 questions:

1. Is the gift card you purchased actually themed F&WF? Now that you have used it, would you recommend it?

2. What water did your son play in?

Thanks!

You will enjoy - if you can, pick a day midweek...lol. It was PACKED yesterday. Combination of it being the first weekend day of the festival and it was a beautiful Saturday here. In answer to your questions:

1) The gift card was F&W themed. You can get them at the specific F&W booths in World Showcase, the first one being to the right of the entrance to the showcase, across from the Santiago and Krakow booth I believe. They have a great little wrist band on them so it is always right at your fingertips.

2) DS2 played in the little kiddie fountains over by Mission Space and Test Track. There is a bigger and nicer one on the "bridge" over to the World Showcase.

Thank you for such a great and complete review. I can't wait.

Quick question: do you know if you can use an ordinary Disney Gift Card that you already have? Or does it have to be one you purchase at F&W?

Thanks again,

Thanks again,

You can use any regular Disney gift card. We had planned on doing that until we saw the ones with the wrist bands and the F&W theme on them. My only fear was that someone was going to slip my $100 little bracelet (the giftcard and wristband) of my wrist and take off...lol. So, I let big bad DH hold it.

Awesome report. I hope the pepto blues were worth it! It all looked very yummy. I love the idea of the bracelet/wristband with the gift card. Very handy!! :thumbsup2 Hope they work the register issues out as I'm planning on using a Disney Visa gift card.

LOL -I wish! I don't think I could afford to keep going back as often as I want to...We ARE going to stop by for a couple booths next Tuesday before we go to MNSSHP though...so, yes I am very lucky we live so close. I LOVE IT!! It has its benefits for sure.

We love the IF&WF and, not for the first time, we've planned our upcoming trip around it. It's great to see photos of what we've got to look forward to, so thanks so much for posting. Having read somewhere recently (possibly the AllEars newsletter) that a gift card makes purchases easier, we'd intended to give it a try this year, but having read your review I'm not so sure. :scratchin
