Ladies,
Here are the rules for the Fall Secret Sister Swap. You are making a two month commitment when you sign up for this swap. Please remember that when considering if you would like to sign up.
You will need to mail you secret sister a package on November 1st , and December 1st. The November package should include at least $10.00 worth of fun goodies. The December package should include at least $15.00 worth of goodies. In the December package you will reveal who you are.
To sign up, please cut and paste these questions into a PM for Buffy (Bernardandmissbianca) and Dyan (lewdyan1)- We will collect them all and then give out buddies when the sign ups close on October 3rd.

PM sent!

I do have a question though (and this might be such a newbie question - sorry), if this a "secret", how do we mail the first box to our sister without her knowing who we are - she can see the return address. I know I can keep my name off, but the address will be a clue.

PrincessNancy96
09-27-2008, 08:30 PM
Most of us have either used another persons addy (like a swap hostess; just let them know)...or us the receipents address for the return to!! I've done the latter in hopes that it will get there regardless of the postal system ability to lose or misdirect packages!

I use the return address of someone in the state and try to take it to a different town/city when i mail it so the postmark doesn't look off. I know some people have m,ailed/given their things to someone else and had them mail them from home. I had my mother who was visiting mail one of my packages when she returned home one time.

nope you haven't been pesty. I actually needed the reminder because honestly it was not on my radar and could not get it on the mental radar screen, so to speak.

There really isn't much that anyone can do unless you can fix the healthcare system in America and find some way to get nursing staff at a certain rehab center to give a crap about the people they take care of. But I'm not asking for too much am I, LOL?? You can fix it in an afternoon right?

I dont know the situation but I wish you all the faith, trust and pixie dust in the world!:flower3:
Have you seen the film "sicko" or is that opening a can of worms? Whoever ends up in a facility I think that families have to watch out for even more closely.
With health care the way it is sometimes I think I was fortunate to lose my parents at an early age although of course there are still times I miss them dreadfully!
I am very good at listening and people do like to vent to me, so Im here for you!
:hippie: :grouphug:

BernardandMissBianca
10-07-2008, 11:34 PM
I just wish they would listen. This facility isn't to bad compared to the horror stories I have heard but there are very few things MIL can eat and they completely ignore her. I end up taking her food because they are just idiots.
And the resident DR is avoiding her, probably because he doesn't want to get cussed out. LOL
What bothered me today was the fact that before their residents were mostly short term physical rehab type patients, most of which were ambulatory. this time around it seemed to be more permanent residents and a few with some mental issues. Could have been dementia or Alzheimer's but this place is not geared towards dealing with people of that nature. It's has open access and it's on a busy road and the rooms are all open, there is no way for MIL to protect herself if the need arises. And they went from from 2 patients per aide and 4 per nurse to 6 per aide and 12 per nurse.

I'll say it again, it hardens my resolve to just wake up dead one day. I do not want to go down hill!

Anyway, I guess I get to go play bad guy tomorrow, that should be fun.

BernardandMissBianca
10-07-2008, 11:36 PM
All of my peeps and peepettes should have their sisters/buddies!

Please either funnel questions through me and Dyan or make up a user name!

I am a gastric bypass patient and during the physce eval they had asked how my parents had both gone. When I was talking to the physc she told me you know how your going to go, just like your parents, one day you'll have a heart attack and that will be that. And you know, I can live with that. Neither one of them lasted longer than 3 days. If I just dont wake up then thats what I asked for.

Anyway, on a more positive note, Banana got her sister, but mine has not been pmed to me yet.

By the way, do you get to play or do you just do this thru the kindness of your heart?:goodvibes

BernardandMissBianca
10-08-2008, 12:06 AM
I get to play too, that's why you haven't gotten your SS yet. Dyan has the other 1/2 of the list. I got some so she would be surprised and I also got the kids. She got the majority of the adults.
You should get yours first thing in the morning. DS7's B'day is, well today now, so I'm on the hunt for Bakugan toys (don't ask LOL). apparently its the "IT" toy of the season so they are hard to track down. Anyway long story short, I did mine tonight since I will be tracking toys all day tomorrow.

Stone got one from a friend for his birthday and we had no idea what to do with it.

Google is my friend.

It looks like Bakugan is a fancy version of the card battle games, except instead of collecting not quite expensive cards you have to collect more costly balls/spheres. Each sphere opens up to reveal a character. You need at least three spheres to play, but really, you need more or everyone will know the first time you play how to beat you. They show a game board/arena thing to buy too. Not sure if that is necessary or not.

I've seen a pretty big display at Toys'r'Us, but I didn't know what it was at the time. The backer boards are red.

Looks like I'll just be concentrating on Star Wars figures/battle machines for my boys. :thumbsup2 Whew.

10-08-2008, 07:02 AM
ok my little man would not get it. so that's one less thing for me to worry about. we are concentrating on LEGO'S! OMG he can not get enough of them.

the good thing is that a professor that comes in to where I work, said he read a study about it and lots of lego playing kids grew up to be engineers. so i can only hope that all these lego are playing a part......:lmao: :rotfl:

MinnieGarden
10-08-2008, 07:35 AM
I totally agree with the lego theory..... my 5 year old step son constructed a hospital on the beach with an orange juice stand on the roof and a helicopter landing pad. When he was in pre-K, he built a gas station with a refinery attached. Totally cool, but scary....... definately engineer material!

Holly- both of my brother's played with legos and they both are engineers. My brother who played with them the most and had villages of them is working on his doctorate- he is being paid to work on it at MIT.

Also both of them used them in a school gifted program.

1st happy birthday to ds7!!!!! and now what is this bakugan toy????? can you send me in the right direction. am i going to be looking for it????
They are no where to be found. So I gave up. I have sent a request in to my brother to direct mail them to me from Japan. It's easier then driving to 5000 stores..

Happy Birthday BAMB's DS!!

I will tell him you said hey when he gets home!

Stone got one from a friend for his birthday and we had no idea what to do with it.

send it my way??? LOL

Yep, that's the jist of it. Kind of a cross between Yu-Gi-Oh and Pokemon.

You need to board to open the balls, they have magnets in them and when the ball rolls over the metal plate in the board it pops open.

If you want to I would appreciate it. I'm looking for the smaller balls, I think they are called the starter pack. Any color would be good. DS8 and 7 both want them.

here is a link to their site, we want the ones on the left. The balls and cards.

DH found four stores around here that have them. ToysRUs has them for $5.00. I'll pick up 4 starters for sure but will try for the 2 starters and 2 boosters. If I find them, a check is fine. Do you need them right now or do you want me to just send them back with your pages?

I cannot let DS(8) see that! He's got a list of Lego as long as your arm he wants (And DH says he can't have because we have enough to build a new Legoland anyway, and the boys build a themed set once then lose the instrucitons:rolleyes1 ) and they look right up his street.

'K. Flat rate it is. I printed the label and DH is running it over to the PO tonight for the 9:00pm deadline. Shipping cost was $9.30 and I'll PM you the DC.

Each starter pack has three but one is closed up. One pack has a red one and a grey one showing. The other has a different red one and a teal one. One booster pack has one that is a sort of smokey see through with yellow stripes and the other one had a bright blue one.

Sorry that's not more specific. They are odd looking little things. I included the Target receipt just in case.

Tell your boys I was happy to help. DH said they looked kind of cool so I hope they have fun!

BernardandMissBianca

Don't worry about not being specific!!! They will be thrilled to pieces no matter what they get! Tell DH thank you for running out tonight. I keep forgetting that it's earlier there. LOL

They are odd looking aren't they but they are pretty cool too. Some of the boys in DS8's class has them so I got to see them in action at Cross Country last week.

YUP! they would dye the chicks pastel colors. and you could buy them. of course they would grow up and not be that pretty pink, yellow, green, purple.....but we sure did love to go see them. Our Woolworths is not that exciting! I do remember when I was a little girl they had a small cheese counter (but I might be mixing that up with BHS). It now has: toys, DVDs/CDs/games, Pick & mix and other sweets, kids clothes (uniform and dress-up as well as "normal" clothes), some homewares (pots, light bulbs etc) and seasonal/party stuff. No livestock!

They're also online - google them and see if it takes you back (but I bet it doesn't!). When your swere 5 and dime ours were shilling and sixpence:rotfl: (I was very very tiny then)

I remember there was a woolworths attached to the buena park mall in OC, Cali. The mall is still there!!! Amazing right??!!!
I think it was the only one ever in a mall and my mom and I used to eat in there cause it was so much cheaper than food court food. These were reagan times.
If anyone ever gets to Orange California (a stones throw from Anaheim) Go to the Orange Circle it's a bunch of antique shops and old buisnesses but in that mix is one of the last drug stores that has a breakfast and lunch counter and it's fan-friggn-tastic!!! It's a jewel of Orange County that so many people miss.
Woolworths in the UK I would have thought of that.:confused3

We got them on Sat!!!! the kids were over the moon happy!!

Thank you Thank you Thank you!!! Your check is in the mail BTW.

My package included:

3 packs of really pretty embellishments (tags, shapes, etc.)
Jolee's Boutique Moose Legs stickers (really cute!)

Surfing is a pain but I'm going to get DS(8) to help later - ScrapYour Trip might have stuff as they do a lot of themed bits.

SS if you're listening - DH asked if I would be getting any election goodies in my December package:rotfl: Don't ask me why - I think it was because the BBC preceeds their coverage with oics of two mugs so he things you're all sipping your tea out of Obama or McCain cups:lmao:

OT - ArizonaRita - I am sooooo jealous you are going on one of the Baltic cruises. We want to go so bad, but it was about $11,000 for the 4 of us in one of the cheap rooms, never mind airfare, etc. I'm going on my 10th Disney Cruise in February, so I guess I can't complain too much! You will have to join us for the Disney Cruise swap.

He says THANK YOU Swap Buddy!

The round beads you iron sound like (I think) a Swedish thing - Hama?. (they look like little tubes and you assemble them on a spiked board) That's one thing we do get a lot of over here:rotfl: If you need top-ups or any special template boards let me know:thumbsup2

of course they could be a really cool differnet thing we haven't got here;)

Mine has been sent, but perhaps not received yet?

I'm still waiting to receive, but had received a PM from Dyan that it would be a little late, so I'm not too concerned yet.

By the way, I like DS's nickname - RooPooh! Good one whoever came up with that!

She just finished her diorama about the lenape indians. I really wish she lived with Sabrina while making this. Got to love 9 year olds

Mine arrived yesterday...thanks so much! Mike and Ikes! Yumm-o. Also, some fall chipboard letters, ribbon, a PaperCrafts magazine and assorted stickers.

On a side note, my DH brought the box in and said - you sent a box to yourself? Duh! Even after I explained it, he still didn't get it. I guess he hasn't been paying attention...sigh...

Mine arrived today.

Thank you so much for my package secret santa.

I got 7 rolls of ribbon, the November Creating Keepsakes Issue, and a set of Martha Stewart Glitter markers. I haven't tried them yet but I always like trying new things and since I tend to write titles when I don't have a topper ready they will come in very handy. It is the set with blue, greens, and purples- my favorite colors for scrapping.
