I wasn't sure where to post this, but I had to put it somewhere!!! :rotfl:

The Internet is a buzz with the news that Johnny Depp has signed on to play Captain Jack Sparrow in the 4th development of the PotC movies!!

I was completely obsessed with the first movie (saw it 8 times in theatres!). Unfortunately, IMHO, I can say I only enjoyed the first. Saw the 2nd and 3rd and didn't care for them, so naturally, I'm not looking forward to the 4th :( 1st one was amazing though!

I agree. The first was amazing...I still watch it to this day. The 2nd and 3rd were very disappointing to me. Hopefully they can bring it back with the 4th.

Im so excited also about how he is going to play Mad Hatter! I loved all of the movies and the ride, cant wait for the 4th.

I think Johnny Depp is probably the best actor out there right now but after the barely acceptable numbers 2 & 3 I'm totally amazed that anybody is looking forward to this. There isn't more than a remote chance that this can turn out well.

Haven't Kiera and Orlando already said no? Where can this possible go other than 'Weekend At Bernies 2'???:confused3

I'd prefer to rtemember No. 1 as the great movie it was and 2 & 3 as the 'required' sequels ... Please, no more.

Well, I am so excited!! I am a Pirate's freak!! I agree, the first one was amazing, the others just so so. I fell asleep for the first part of the third one the first time I watched it. But, I have seen them all so many times now... I think Johnny Depp (my one true love) was amazing as Captain Jack in the first one, and then it was like he forgot how he played the character in the
2nd and 3rd one... but I am still excited!!! :cool1: :cheer2:

I also think the first was the best, but I also think 2 & 3 were more than adequate.
I would like to see more.... Of course I reserve the right to retract that statement after I see the future sequel(s). pirate:

I agree with you 100%. I too love the first one and can watch it at any given day, but the other 2 I can take them or leave them (mainly the 3rd one). However, I do consider myself a POTC fan and will probably watch the 4th one just to see how it plays out. Hopefully Will Turner comes back

Am I the only one who thought that 3 was the best?? :confused3 Also, I'm probably going to get flamed for this, BUT- after the last POC, it's time to leave well enough alone. Name one movie franchise that had success with a fourth film... off the top of my head I can only think of Rocky. Unfortunately, there's a great probability of a 4th POC tanking.

btw, Depp's agency confirmed the deal. There's no script, there's no filming or production date, but it is speculated that there will be a release date of 2012 or 2013. I had the link but closed it out and am too lazy at the moment to pull it back up.:3dglasses

**Edited to add that I'm a huge POC geek- yep- was one of the midnight viewers at the At World's End release... just wanted to make clear that I wasn't just a hater on the thread:thumbsup2

I will watch any movie with Johnny Depp in it so I will definitely be in line to see POTC 4. I even watch Once Upon a Time in Mexico every time it plays on Telemundo (Spelling?) and I don't even understand Spanish.

I do agree that POTC 1 was better because it had more universal appeal. I think more men liked the storyline of POTC 2 & 3 and more women liked POTC 1 (IMHO).

I too, really enjoyed 1 and 2 but didn't care much for 3. I guess that is why the idea of 4 intrigues me since I felt 3 wasn't a good enough ending.

I have been a long time JD fan, so Captain Jack isn't even my favorite role of his (albeit it is in my top 3 ;) ) I am just as interested in seeing his take on the Mad Hatter as well as the John Dillenger movie due out next year.

Clearly I'm beyond excited!! I wouldn't say that I was disappointed with POTC 2 & 3, but I did feel like 2 was a filler to set the stage for 3.
As for POTC 4, I'm really curious to see where they'll be taking the storyline. At the end of 3 they showed Elizabeth with a young boy waiting on the horizon for Will. Does this mean that POTC 4 will be surrounding Will & Elizabeth's son? Maybe Will & Elizabeth won't need to return if Disney finds an actor to play their adult son?? Granted, I'd be sad to see them not returning, but I guess that could be a possibility.

I can't wait to find out!! pirate:

I was always under the impression that if any more were made after Pirates 3, that they'd be an entirely new storyline. Like a second Trilogy. I'm expecting neither Will nor Elizabeth nor their child to be part of #4. We'll see.

09-26-2008, 11:55 AM
Loved all three. Although the first was the favorite. The second really set up the storyline and created a lot of anticipation.
I would certainly see and buy the 4th. Just hope it lives up to the other three.
I always wanted to see what happened to Jack in FL adventures. :cool1:

Considering the screenwriters have said that the curse is broken after 10 years and Will thus goes back and lives with Elizabeth, that seems unnecssary.

Which yeilds a perfect example of what is wrong with Pirates 3. The screen writers had to explain their terrible plot, because it wasn't evident in the movie.

Oh, I thought Will was to captain the ship forever, only to be allowed 1 day on shore every 10 years.

Nope. At least, not according to the screen writers.
And in fact when Davy Jone's deal with Calypso is explained, it was pointed out that had she remained faithful, his service would have been done as well and Calypso would find a new captain for the Dutchman.

Again, the plot was convoluted and dumb and this key portion of the resolution of the plot is only available as an explination from the writers on their website.

I looked at the insert in my POTC 3 movie and it had Pirate Secrets Revealed
Top Questions Moviegoers Had about POTC 3.

Q. What does the future hold for Will and Elizabeth? Now that he's captain of the Flying Dutchman, is she going to wait for him?

A. True love never dies, but their story is yet to be told.

Q. Since Will honored his destiny on the Flying Dutchman, in 10 years does he get to return to land for good, thereby freeing his father and crew?

A. Every 10 years, Will may step on land for one day. He is bound to the Flying Dutchman FOREVER.

Your pardoned, for now

I am more interested in a Lone Ranger concept myself. I'm thinkin' the POTC has kind of run its course. Perhaps a Young Jack Sparrow cartoon is the way to keep it alive at this point. You know, for the kiddie scallywags and all

Sort of off topic, as I'm not really that excited about another installment (the first will live in my heart forever as one of my all time favorite films) but the first link provided by the OP? That is quite possibly the most hideous picture of Johnny Depp I have ever seen. I hope it's just extremely bad lighting or the make up people are going to have their work cut out for them!

I remember reading this on the writers website as well they were very clear about it and I was stunned when I saw the DVD insert. I'll go with what the writers said. Either way- the Will and Elizabeth story is over there is no more to tell and I think to throw something together on the off chance that Kingsley and Bloom show interest which I don't believe they will, would only further to weaken the plot of that story.

I would venture to gues that the next POC will feature Sparrow and Barbossa.

I'm soooooooo excited for POTC4!!! I loved the first two, but didn't really understand the third one - I got a little lost with all the plots but that was OK, I just sat and drooled over Johnny Depp and I was happy to sit there for hours!!
I kind of assumed the new one would focus on Jack and Barbossa and leave Will and Elizabeth out of it - I don't think their story has much more to it, whereas I'd love to know the backstory for Jack or where he'll go next!
Here's hoping the next premiere will be at Disneyland! I would sooo be there!

Yes, the third one got really confusing and sometimes I watch it and catch something I missed before lol. I also had to watch it twice to get most of everything that actually happened, at least why. It was alot of action and you really had to pay attention to it. This one should be more slow paced... well you know what I mean, pirates aren't too slow and of course there's going to be action, just not as action packed as the third, but hopefully more hilarious comments by captain jack :goodvibes I cant wait for the movie!

I enjoyed all three films, but felt that 1 & 3 were very close, with 2 a bit behind. Neither my wife or I found any of them confusing and thought it was fairly clear that Will was only to be captain for ten years as long as Elizabeth was faithful. I thought that was why Davy Jones was so pissed all the time...Calypso deserted him, right?
I would imagine that the next one would focus on the Fountain of Youth, and that Barbossa will be chasing after Jack. Maybe Ponce de Leon will appear?

I think the Zac Efron thing is a rumor. E! News had an interview with him for HSM3 and he said he didn't know anything about it until he was asked by the press...so I don't think it's for real. At least I hope not.

Although you never know, because Disney has a habit of using their own already contracted people...and because he's so popular with the younger set, there will be lots more marketing possibilities for them to cash in.

I think I could maybe handle him being in it, but I swear to you all - if there is just one Jonas Brother anywhere in that film, I will be boycotting. And maybe protesting in front of the theater.
