A "Day of Beauty" for me today Ami! Hair then nails. (apparently it takes an entire day to get me presentable!:rotfl2: )...Now if I can loose say 40 lbs between now and Saturday I'd be good..:wizard: :wizard: DAMN! MY magic wand isn't working. I guess I'll stick with the hair, and nails...best I can do.
Seriously, packing, cleaning, shopping for groceries for the kids, checking in on my parents tomorrow. Jeeze, going on vacation is exhausting!:sad2:
I've enjoyed reading about all the Grand Gatherings, and experiences of everyone here on the board, now I get to meet some fellow FW Disboarders as well, can't wait!

who is going to be at the fort this weekend? I will be there tonight, more than likley late. We never seem to get an early start. Don't know how much we will be around, going to parks tomorrow, if it is going to be hot then we will hang around in the am. I don't have a dish sign, but we have a Forest River Windsong stop by and say Hi, we are bringing a golf cart, but not sure which one. We have 4 right now and he might bring the one he is trying to sell.

Well guys..I'm baaack...Did ya miss me?:confused3
Had a good trip. Enjoyed the Fort. We were in the 600 loop and I think that loop is really centrally located, and would recommend it. The walking path was out the back, but it was relatively quiet. We were first given the 200 loop, and while some of the loop looked fine, the site they wanted to give us was a barren ugly swamp mess. We immediately called and asked for another site, and 612 was available, and very nice. Rented a golf cart...which was great fun. Ours is gas, so we especially enjoyed the nice quiet ride of the electric carts in Fort Wilderness. Quite a few people had Holloween decorations up on their sites. Was very nice to watch the fireworks from the beach..and they did have music..then the Electric Water Pagent. We also saw an aligator in the water near the Meadow Trading Post.
Enjoyed Food and Wine Festival in Epcot. We've never been to this, and enjoyed it. We first had a late breakfast at the Yacht Club, and then entered Epcot through the World Showcase entrance. We spent the entire day there..making our way through the countries. Bob felt obligated to try wine from each country, and top it off with a stein of beer from Germany. We really took our time and soaked up the atmosphere (okay, Bob soaked up the alcohol! ). When we've gone with the kids, we breeze through and never have the time to sit and appreciate the ambience of each country. This time..no rush. We ended the day back in England and sat outside for fish and chips and waited for Illuminations. Had a water side seat for the show. Was a perfect end to a relaxing day.
I especially enjoyed getting to meet our favorite otter spotter..Debbie, and her husband Rick. We were also joined by Frank and Denise. Really lovely, warm people. Felt as if we were talking with old friends. It's so good to be able to put faces to the names I see here on the board.
We also left a bit earlier than anticipated, but we needed to visit with an elderly uncle I have in the Tarpon Springs area...we also had a night in Anna Maria Island..where I went earlier in the summer with the kids. Bob loved it and wants to go back in '09. Me..I want to go back NOW. We came home and it went into the 40's at night. I could really get used to 80 degree days in October. Haven't uploaded any picutures yet, hopefully in the next day or so.
Oh..and my house is still here..and my older son, who picked us up at the airport..dropped us off at the house..and couldn't get out of here soon enough. He kissed me goodbye, and told me he doesn't want my job..It sucks. The pets are alive..although the dog did eat a pair of underwear, and threw it up.(It's not the first time either..that's another post all together) :sad2:

Auntie- I'm assuming the 5th wheel had not yet arrived when you got there? Did you go check out the site you were assigned first and then report back to the office? Just curious. I'm wanting a preferred site for our trip and requested 100 or 200 loops. I think there are other loops I would prefer to have, but I don't want to pay premium price.
Glad you had fun - - and I'm waiting for more details on the camper set-up!

Originally we requested either a 200 or 600 loop. Upon check in they said there was something in the 200, we figured great, it's close to the marina area.
When we went to see the site. The back of the site looked stark, barren, and very swampy..there was quite a bit of sitting water on it. I'm assuming this was one of those cleared areas that others have referred to. When we checked in they had mentioned that 600 loop also had a site available, we immediately went to check out the site. It was great. We didn't even go back to the check in..we used the number they provide on the check in packet. Called, told them we didn't like the assigned site, and preferred one in the 600 loop. It still appeared open. They asked what site number it was, and then put us on hold. Came back on a few minutes later and said it was fine..to take that site. They would not the changes on their end. The 600 loop is centrally located, you're pretty close to the Meadow Trading area, where the pool is located, and if you didn't plan on a renting a golf cart, the Marina area is within walking/or biking distance. Tina's rental included bikes as well, which really makes renting the golf cart more a convenience than a necessity as far as I'm concerned. The rental was complete with camping chairs as well.

Glad your back! Nice to hear you had a great time.
I guess I'm missing something, how did you move Tina's 5er? Does she deliver it once your there?
I too like taking my time through the countries, unfortunately the girls have other things in mind. This year I plan on making them slow down so I can enjoy the festival.

10-09-2008, 10:11 AM
Oopps...sorry..the 5'er wasn't there when we arrived. We checked in early say around 10:30 or so. The rental came closer to lunch time. At which point we received a phone call from the rental company asking us which site we had checked in for? So the 5'er went directly to the 600 loop.

Sorry if I wasn't clear.
Check in time isn't technically until 1 PM. We arrived around 10:30 -11:00 am, and went to check in. Told them we were waiting on a delivery of a rental. It didn't matter to them if you rent or have your own..it's all the same check in procedure. The 5'er didn't arrive until closer to 1:00. We received a cell phone call from Camp At The Fort, indicating they knew we had checked in already, and wanted to know which site # to bring the rig to.
I would think if you are concerned about the site you will have, you may want to try, if you can, to be there earlier before the arrival of the rental. This way if you feel the need to change the site you will be able to.

Had you driven? I was wondering if we fly and arrived early - I guess we could visit the fort or a neighboring resort - but we would have our carry on bags.
What did you do with your time until the camper arrived?

Hey there Lafayette...Mandeville here...man theres a ton of things to do at the fort to pass the time while having alot of fun. Drop your bags off at check in and head to the beach/marina, or to the tavern for a beer, take a bus to ANYWHERE and do some siteseeing before the real vacation starts...catch the boat to Wilderness Lodge and grab a snack, or check out the gift shops at any resort including the fort....go to the horse stables and stroll through the barn. Unplanned time at the fort is often the best time at the fort.

We flew..and we rented a car. That was why it was easy to take a look at the site they assinged us. Then we went and had some lunch off property, when we received a cell phone call from the rental company that they had arrived, we met them at the site. He was just about done setting up by the time we arrived.

Hey Mandeville. I'm going to be in your town end of the month for a soccer tournament. Looking forward to it.
So - it sounds like I could store my carry on bags at the front desk just like I could at a "regular" resort? I've been to the fort before, but we've always had our camper with us. This time we'll be renting the 5'er from campatthefort.
