Ladies and gentlemen I give you the 2009 DIS Member Cruise webpages:
Main Web Page (http://monorailgreen.info/member2009/index.htm)
Member Photo Gallery (http://monorailgreen.info/member2009/gallery/photoindex.htm)
We (Mark and Mary) are thrilled to be sailing on the 2009 Member cruise with all of you. We've set up the website above as we have for past Member Cruises.
In addition as in past years we will make gifts of buttons to all the DISers and their families. We do this as a way to identify the DISers to each other. We ask only 3 things: 1) you must be a poster on the DIS. In the past we've had people who just found our site via web searches. 2) we ask for your cabin number for the buttons so we can deliver them if you miss the meet. If you want your cabin posted on the site and in the mini navigator so others can find you great - if you want it kept secret we will do that as well. 3) only ask for a button if you are going to wear it. They do cost money and we would hate to waste the money if you aren't going to wear it.
The Logo
Btw, permission IS given to grab the logo below for your own siggie. That's why it's there. :thumbsup2 Thanks to Time4disneynow/Monika for the original artwork :)
If you've never done that before, here's some easy instructions!
Highlight the following line, right click and select copy:
http://photopost.wdwinfo.com/data/500/36347ssmc2009G.gif
Click on UserCP above.
Click on Edit Signature.
Right click and paste, select Done :)
DIS MEETS
As noted on the website we have two DIS meets set up. These are based on past Member Cruises and what has worked well. Of course it is up to the group as a whole so if someone has another idea for time/place for the DIS meets let us know. Also if anyone is staying out by the Port Saturday night by all means set up a DIS meet there. We've done that before and it is great fun.
What you can do!
That's what we've taken on, but there are many other things you can do to help make this cruise great.
First and foremost become a regular poster. As we all get to know each other is where the fun comes in.
Things we've done on past cruises that you could volunteer to do:
Linked dining - on past cruises someone took up the job of linking the DIS group in dining. This could be one person willing to do it for both seatings or two people (one for early and one for late). We can put you in contact with who has done it in the past to find out how. Update - Flo is handling this!
Fish extenders - organizing the exchange of little gifts between DISers. Update - Flo is organizing this!
Pirates/Swans - a little game we play on the thread based on each 99th post and each 100th post. Update: Gary (OKWMEMBER) who gave us the game on the 2008 thread has volunteered to be the pirate master this year as well even though he isn't sailing with us. Thanks Gary.
Group Party Bus - something we did in 2006. Update: Annmarie has volunteered to look into and organize the party bus!
T-shirts - back in 2005 and 2006 we had group t-shirts. We haven't the past couple of years. Either way works fine, but if someone wants to organize this through cafe press etc. have at it.
Anything else you've done with past cruise groups or something new you'd like to do for this group? Let's hear about it.
Well that is about it - any questions just ask away.
Pirates and Swans:
Pirate postings - on the last Member cruise thread Gary OKWMember came up with the pirate game where each 100th post got a pirate (and later we added each 99th post got an Elizabeth Swan). We even gave prizes away at the onboard DIS meet. Gary has volunteered to be Pirate Master again even though he isn't sailing with us. We'll have a prize for the DISer with the most pirates and the most swans at the onboard DIS meet.
Fish Extenders
Flo (wltdsnyfan) has offered to organize the Fish Extender program. PM her if you are interested in joining. Here's what she has to say about it:
I know it is early but I was wondering if any one be interested on doing a Fish Extender exchange. The reason it is called fish extender is you hang what you want your little trinkets to be put in on there. These are right out side the room. Please let me know your thoughts.
*Fish Extenders – We will be putting little things in them through out the cruise. Like, Paper, Pencils, stickers, playing cards, pirate things etc. To do this I would compile a list with Room Numbers and names and hand out at the DIS meet on Ship. You could PM me this.
**Fish Extender Gifts - This can be EVERY day or you pick a day to distribute all your gifts. There really is no set rule for gift-giving, it is up to you as to what and how much you want to give... each to their own accord. It was allot of fun to come back to are room and find something there. It also gave me a chance to see parts of the ship I never saw in the previous cruises.
Flo
Party Bus!
Annmarie is looking as setting up a chartered bus from WDW to the port and back. Here's what she has to say:
I know Mary has already supplied some information but if you are interested in taking a chartered bus, please send me a PM with the following information:
Dis User Name
WDW Resort Prior To SSMC09
WDW Resort After SSMC09
# of Adults
# of Children & Age(s)
I believe the last time we did this, we had approximately 50 people which filled the bus. Everyone was asked to be at one resort around 8:30 or 9:00 because we wanted to get to the port as early as possible.
Annmarie
Linked Dining
Flo (wltdsnyfan) has volunteered to handle the linking of dining for the group. Thanks Flo! Linking with other DISers adds a lot of fun to the cruise because you can get to know each other here before sailing. That way you aren't sitting with strangers you are sitting with DIS friends. Here is her post:

I am still up in the air. It really depends on price, if I can get enough $$ by 11/2 and I am really leary about the time of year. Sure it is only 1 week earlier than this year, but that one week could make a difference.
It will only be 1 week after the boys start school, so it may be a me and hubby trip OR a me and mom trip. We have to talk it over.

I'm considering it but I came to the conclusion that a 4-day cruise was way, way too short. I'd definitely try if it were a 7-day cruise and when the temperatures are a bit milder. I'll see what happens November 2; you never know, I might get through.

Vikki and I had a great time on the cruise and will talk about it for a long time to come. About next year, we do not know. This year I was very lucky to get off in September because my office is nuts this this time of the year. Next year I may not be so lucky. Does anyone know if we (being on the 08 member cruise) will get first choice of going, or is it open for all members? Did anyone see BLT? We took the tour yesterday, and thought it will be nice for one or two night, but then go back to AKL.

On 11/2, it is open for booking for all members, regardless if they were on the 08 cruise. Mary usually has a chat while people are calling in on that day though :)
I did see BLT yesterday, pretty neat. I like it. I debate between getting more points at BLT or doing an SSR add-on via resale since those are going for a good price right now.

I missed the 2008 cruise and still remember the best DVC cruise in 2007.The one thing I don't like is the time frame that they choose. In the north east most kids go back to school after labor day so that becomes a problem.I understand for them it's the cheapest cruise but the tropical nightmare weather is why the cruise prices are so cheap at this time of the year. You pay less to roll the hurricane dice but im sure the DVC price will not reflect the time of the year.I was looking foward to going on the 2009 cruise with my family but im not sure it will happen.
I liked the 2007 cruise dates oct 21st thru 25th and that cruise theme was something special.
Is anyone else in favor of cruising in october then september?
Billy-tiggerguy :thumbsup2
P.S. I hope everyone had a wonderful 2008 DVC Cruise

Mace and I are thinking about it. We decided at first not to do 2009 because we want to wait til Rheya's at least 3 before we go again (would only be 2010) BUT now I'm thinking hey..maybe Mace and I can go by ourselves. :confused3 Of course the kids would disagree...but either way we are thinking about it. :goodvibes

I just spoke with MS and was trying to find out about "downgrading" our "free" cabin so we could take our kids with us next year. The CM was not aware of the dial-in date as of now. You are right Mary, I thought it was on a Saturday as well. Good Luck!! Almost seems like I will be missing some of the suspense on Dial-In morning;) I remember last year being in chat while calling in!

My theory: They moved it to Sunday as MS is now open on Saturday and they don't want the call-in disrupting normal operations.

Mary - one time when I called MS on a Sunday the CM told me that usually they are sitting around with not many calls coming in. So maybe we can get them to hopping that day!

"At this time, we do not have the Point Chart for the 2009 Member Cruise.
All we know is the dates are September 13-17, 2009 and the booking date
is November 2, 2008. Information will be mailed to all Members with the

We are seriously condsidering the cruise. We already are planning to be down in WDW that week with friends for the MNSSHP and we would only have to pay one airfare if we rolled the cruise into that week as well. Three weeks to decide. Wayne, the Kids and I had such a great time on the '08 cruise that we are going to try to book into te '09 cruise. Wayne will just have to have his dialing fingers ready with all the phones we have. I regretfully will be at work.
We better get into the '09 cruise because the kids and I have started our fish extender gifts already. The '08 cruise being our first, I wasn't sure what to do. Now that we have done 1, I now know what to expect.
I sure wish I would have found DIS sooner than I did for the '08 cruise. I would love to know a few days in advance what the events would be on board. I've always been a very organized person and love to know the "plan" for the day. We missed out on a lot of shows and "fun" things because the kids just wanted to stay in the pools. =( Maybe on the "09 I will get to do more of the shows and presentations. I always felt like I was missing something, but just didn't know what.
Like others we bought into BLT. I swore up and down that we wouldn't, but the Disney Magic just hit me and I couldn't help myself. We didn't add on enough to get the cruise, but we did enough to get a 5 day stay at DAKV. I tried talking them into giving us the stay at the tree top villas with the #of points we added on, but they wern't going for that. They said that it would screw up the "charts" they had. I am very excited to get the Mickey sculpture in the mail. Wayne was undecided about adding on now, or when Hawaii opens. I made that decision and said BOTH. LOL. In my opinion, you can never have enough Disney vacation points. I'm trying to talk my in-lays and my best friend into buying into the points so they can vacation with us. =) I think it will be a lot of fun and build up a lot of memories. So now I must change my sig to add BLT.
A wise person told me before the cruise to take an extra suitcase for all the goodies. I wish they would have said 1 extra for every 2 people. With there being 8 of us...........we should have brought about 3-4. LOL the kids were always so excited to see what was left on the bed and what ws in the fish extenders. I was really greatful for all the "tips and tricks" of sailing. They really helped me move all 8 of us along with very little speed bumps.
I wish everyone luck on dial day =) I'll keep my fingers crossed. I just wish there was a way for me to keep in touch with DH while he dials in so I will know the moment it happens. =)
Sending all my Disney love from Wisconsn,
DejnosluvMickey~Stephania

If you are just comparing the cruise experience itself than yes you can get a 7 night for a cheaper per night price than the 4 night Member Cruise. To us the Member Cruise is different enough to make it worth while. Here's what I wrote over on the DVC forum a couple of weeks ago when asked what made the cruise different.
The Members Cruises are different than a regular 4 day cruise at the same time for the following reasons:
Usually a different itinerary than the regular cruise.
2003 was Castaway Cay, Nassau, Castaway Cay
2005 was Key West, Sea, Castaway Cay
2006 was Castaway Cay, Sea, Castaway Cay
2007 was Castaway Cay, Sea, Castaway Cay
2008 was Castaway Cay, Sea, Castaway Cay
Special guests. Over the years we had talks and tours from different Disney Imagineers, Roy Disney, Art Linkletter, Disney Legends and some wonderful entertainment from some of Disney's Broadway stars.

DVC themed DCL shows and games like bingo and who wants to be a mouseketeer. Now all of this doesn't offer a value to some people and that is great. It isn't for everyone. However the guests are what make it special for us and while we'll be calling to get on our 6th Member Cruise.
BTW - one other thing not listed above. The price for the Member Cruise includes your tips. They aren't included in regular cruises.

Thanks for the posting. Vikki and do not know if we are going to go on this one? For not that much more points, you could go on a 7 day a week before? How does everyone else fell that the points are higher then then should be for only 4 nights?
In looking at the point chart I believe it's the same as this year was. We had a deluxe inside for 124. The fact that tips are included is huge.

Hi everyone...Just wanted to drop a quick note to let all of you know that we won't be on this cruise! DVC has really given us a mess with the documents for our add-on, and no help in resolving them. We received the docs at the wrong address, but the docs inside the box had the correct address with our checking account and routing #, our social security #'s, and name. If these docs had fallen into the wrong hands we could be in trouble right now. But not only this, they have docs on our wrong master contract, wrong resort, and a buyer is missing. I have contacted DVC, my guide, Quality control, and now someone a little higher up numerous times with no luck. So we are giving up and not buying the add on. We decided that we'd rather not be hassled and bothered anymore with this. If they wanted our money and business bad enough they would have attempted to resolve this on the first call, not the 12th. So we have decided that the April 09 cruise and the April 10 EB repositioning cruise are enough for us right now. I hope everyone has a great time, and I will check in time to time on here!
Good Luck Dialing in!!!

Thank to all of you! We do want the add-on, but we are thinking maybe it just wasnt meant to be! It's not really that big of a deal to us, we have quite a bit of points now, but they don't seem to be enough for us. But with the 2 cruises we have booked(We are paying cash), we don't really need the extra points till 2011. So waiting is ok with us. We have a vacation planned for July 2009 on points, and then our next trip will be either august 2010 or summer 2011, and we will have points by then.
Good Luck to all of you dialing...I hope that you get what you want!!! I know come August of 2009, I will be wishing I was on the cruise with all of you!!

Tom and I are talking about trying to get on SSMC09. We just got home from the October 5-9 cruise that DH won! That was a lot of fun but not as much as the past SSMCs we have been on in the past. The only problem is that we are also planning a huge family cruise in 2010 with a vow renewal ceremony for our 25th wedding anniversary! I guess we have less than 2 weeks to make up our minds. ;)
How did so many people already get on the member cruise when call isn't until November. Did I miss something?

Annmarie - that would be so cool!
Those who are already booked added on during SSMC08. That was one of the incentives. If you added on so many points you got a Cat 6 for 2 adults on next years cruise. They did the same thing in 2007.
The rest of us need to call in as always. Hope you and Tom decide to come. It would be great seeing you both again!

Hi,
A longtime lurker here. I was not happy to find out that tips were included in the 2008 member cruise. I and my tablemates frankly found the service of the waiter and the assistant server to be lacking. I was very happy with our steward and even added some extra money to his tip. When we found out tips were included it all seemed to make sense. They did not go out of their way and by the last night still couldn't remember our drink choices. But if I were doing the tipping, our servers would not have received the recommended amount.

Bill

Interesting comments. Some of us at our table felt the same way. Our waiters were pleasant enough but the service was very slow. Maybe we had the same ones! We knew the tips were included & at least my DH & I didn't add extra to the tip.
Incidently when we checked into BCV they mentioned another Kenney party had just checked in. Well we are Nancy & Dan Kenney from Maine. We were at BCV before & after the cruise as well as on the cruise. Nice to meet you!

Definitely depends on the serving crew. I thought our Server and Asst. Server did a great job. Our Head Server was also great especially playing along with the group.
I can see where the pre-paid tips may make some not give exceptional service but you would think they realize that if they go above and beyond the tips will as well. We definitely added more to each of our tip envelopes.

Good luck dialing in. We all wish they would annouce the guests but we often don't know until we get on the ship. They usually let a few known but very very close to cruise time. Of course part of that is because some of these people might need to back out at the last minute due to other commitments.
I just know DVC has always supplied us with wonderful guests.

After reading through trip reports of the previous members cruises (09 will be my first) all the guests sound wonderful. It is kind of exciting that they will be surprises. That way it keeps us guessing and gives us something to look forward to in addition to the excitement of being on DCL.

That is definitely the goal from DVC. What gets frustrating is that it doesn't allow us to bring something that could be autographed. For example on the '07 cruise the theme was Disney Legends and the guest line-up was amazing (IMHO the best of all the ones we've been on). One of the guests was Richard Sherman of the Sherman Brothers who wrote so many Disney songs including the score of Mary Poppins. I have a Mary Poppins album which was the very first album I ever owned and it would have been wonderful to have him sign that. As it was they gave us a Jungle Book CD as one of our gifts so we had him sign that.
Still we've always been thrilled with the line up of guests. Now not all the guests hold an interest to us and I'm sure that is true for everyone. However every cruise we've come away amazed as some of the acts we've seen and some of the Disney history we've learned.

The 06 and 07 cruises were in October. 05 was in early September (over Labor Day) and 08 was late September.
It is hurricane season so you always have the threat of storms. This year we had beautiful weather. Only a slight sprinkle on our second morning at CC. In 05 we also had great weather on the cruise but it was rainy at WDW before and after the cruise and we got diverted from Port Canaveral to Ft. Lauderdale due to Hurricane Ophelia. Disney took good care of us and had buses waiting to take us back to Port Canaveral (or WDW or the airport).

No such thing as too many questions especially if you are new to this. That's what this thread is all about. Getting to know each other and getting any questions answered.
We are in the Chicago area as well but we've taken to driving down for the Member Cruises as it helps getting the gifts home :)
As for the night before - for the first member cruise we got in a day early and stayed at the port at the Radisson.
For the '05 cruise DVC announced a bon voyage party the night before so we stayed at WDW. They haven't had that since but we've taken to doing two DIS meets now. One on board the ship and another the day before for anyone staying at WDW. We usually have it at the Beach Club so that is where we stayed last year before the cruise. We had a nice turn out but some prefer to head over to the port area. There are lots of hotels at the port area. We've stayed at the Hampton Inn the last two times we've stayed there. Nice ocean view rooms, a short walk (via private walk) to the beach and breakfast is included.
Hope this helps.
If anyone has any questions ask away!

Yep we park at the port. As JaxFlBear says it is $15 a day. WE drive for a number of reasons. The gifts is one but we also enjoy a good road trip and we have family in TN that we visit on the way home.
If you do decide to drive look into going via I-57. It is a slightly longer route but we find it a lot nicer than going down I-65.
Another thing to consider is that some of the hotels in the port area offer packages that let you keep your car with them. I know the Radisson is one.

What we do is pull up to the luggage drop off and I get out. The porter will take our luggage and I top them. Then DH drives over to the parking lot and pays then parks the car. We meet up and head into to terminal. Nice and easy.

Does anyone know what the cancellation policy is? I was on the member website but couldn't find it.
Also, on the DVC member website, they mention that there may be a fee for any changes to the reservation. Does anyone know how much the fee is and when it is invoked?

Good morning everyone!
I believe if you cancel using points they become reservation points which means you cannot use them at the DVC resorts. Cancellation for cash I believe follows the regular guidelines for cash refunds which I think is a full refund up to 90 days before and then goes down from there.
The $95 booking fee that DVC normally charges for trades and cruises is waived on the initial booking day but will be charged for any changes made after the inital booking.

Another one here that will be trying to call on Sunday. DH and I had decided that we would not cruise next year due to the fact that two of our DS's are getting married but isn't that what I have points for??? I am thinking that we will add some time before or after at Vero Beach. We have not been and I think that I would like to check that out.

Good luck calling Gail! I think the cruise will be a nice treat for you and your DH especially with being parents of the groom!
We did Vero before our December 2004 cruise and enjoyed it. A nice easy ride to the port that morning. I can see where it would also be a nice relaxing stay after the cruise to continue the cruise feeling. Vero is nice and laid back.

Ok! I have a question.
I want to do the cruise I am all excited:cool1: but this afternoon my boss called me in his office and told me today was my last day.
If I make my reservations on Sunday but I to have to borrow some. Will I lose them if I have to cancel? That is my only fear. But yet I don’t want to cancel.

the way I understand it, once the reservation is made and then cancelled, you would need to pay 95 dollars for a reservation change and the points can still be used for anything in the current use year except DVC resorts.
I hope this is right, but you should still check with a DVC CM.
My wife was just laid off last week, but we are going to try to reserve with the hope that a new job will come along before then.
good luck.

 So sorry to hear that. I've been through layoffs twice.
I'm not sure if you will be charged the $95 fee for the cancellation or not. I do know that the points will become cancellation points which mean they can't be used for DVC.
As suggested I would call Member Services before Sunday to find out all the details for sure.

It'd be me (I'll be 40 something) dh (ditto), dd KT (she'll be *gasp* 15 at cruise time) and ds Nick (he'll be 12 3/4 at cruise time--that 3/4 is important!)

Holy crapoly! It WAS '05. My last SSMC was 05. I had 05 down and thought to myself, "surely it couldn't have been THAT long ago, so I changed it to 06." Yeah, I'm just as flaky in real life as I am on the DIS. :)

On the 2008 Member Cruise anyone who added on a certain number of points (was it 270?) got a Cat 6 room for 2 people on this years cruise. A number of the cruisers did this. They are the ones who have the color signature already instead of those of us with the black and white one saying we're calling.

We took our kids out in 2007, didn't take them with us in '08, and are planning on taking them in '09. As they get older (ours are 13 & 7) it gets harder and harder, fortunately they are good students and the teachers are more lenient. They didn't have too bad a time making up their work in '07, it was done by the time we got home from the cruise. We will see what this year brings.

Member Services will be booking reservations for this cruise event starting at 9:00am EST on Sunday, November 2, 2008. To book passage on the S.S. Member Cruise 2009, or for more information, call Member Services at (800) ******** or (407) 566-3800†.

Because of heavy call volume associated with S.S. Member Cruise 2009 bookings; your wait time to speak with a Member Services Cast Member may be longer than is customary. We expect this to be a popular Member offering, and apologize in advance for any delay in speaking with you. We recommend having at least two alternate stateroom category choices when calling for reservations, as categories may sell out before your call is answered.
†If you are under 18 years of age, you must have your parent or guardian's permission to dial this number.
Before You Call Member Services
Please have the following information ready when you call:

I am new to DVC. I have not even had my first visit "Home" (we go in Feb). But, DH and I have also talked about going on another Disney cruise. We have not been on one since our honeymoon 6 years ago. The members cruise seems like a good cruise to get reacquainted with Disney cruises. We are planning one for 2012 with some friends but it 2012 is soooo far away. I think we will be dialing in on Nov. 2.

BigDog - sorry I can't answer your question on toddlers as we don't have any children. I do know that on the DIS group in 2005 and 2006 there were a couple of families that had toddlers. About the only thing I can tell you is that the speakers/entertainment is geared more towards adults. The plus for the children is that there are less children on board so the club/pool/beach are all less crowded than on a regular cruise. Hope that helps.

I just wanted to wish everyone luck on Sunday with their dialing!! I won't be traveling next year, too much going on and definatly no cash now. My 1998 vehicle died and I bought a new car today - well new to me - a 2005 Equinox :) :)
So needless to say daily transportation trumps cruise - ha ha ha.
Good luck everyone!!!
We also want to wish everyone good luck tomorrow on booking their first choice of staterooms for the 2009 Member Cruise! We won't be able to join in either as we are saving up for the 2010 Baltic Cruise. If not for that, we definitely would be joining you all! We love the Member Cruise and you will have a wonderful time I am sure.
So get a good rest tonite, set up your work station for the morning dial in and have your java ready!
:)

We have stayed in both category 7 & 8 on prior Disney cruises but are wondering what categories 5 & 6 are like and whether it is worth it to move up to this level. I have read some of the stateroom reports but there aren't a lot with detail. Any thoughts? Annmarie

They have verandas. I like to sit on them and watch the water go by. It is very relaxing for me. Also, I don’t sleep much so if I can’t sleep I go on the balcony and read some times. They have a light that you can turn on. So for me it is worth it. But for some it may not be. Hope this helps. As far as the inside don't think there is much if any of a difference.

5 & 6 are identical the only difference being Cat 5 is up on deck 7. Having said that I would go for a 6 and save the points. We've been in a 5, 6, 7 and 8 and prefer the 7's. The inside of a 7 and 8 is the same as the inside of a 5 & 6 so the verandah is the big difference.
Good luck! I agree with Mimi - as long as we're on the ship I'll be happy.:)

I agree with everyone about getting on the ship! :thumbsup2 We were on SSMCO5 & 06 and both DH and we were in CAT 7. DH loved the verandah and then this year when he won the cruise we were in CAT 8. Although he missed the verandah, the room was fine since it also had the split bath! The other difference is CAT 7 is aft and CAT 8 is forward.
I won't oversleep:scared1: but I have already changed the clock in my bedroom just in case! ;)

I believe you just hit 1.
Now a few things to remember based on past experience. If you get a fast busy hang up and try again. If you don't get a fast busy and feel like you are getting dead air hang on. Most likely you are in the que. You should then get music and then get connected. This can take a while. Come here in the morning and we'll hang out and encourage each other. Assuming of course that you don't need your phone line for both calling in and being online.

I ditto the comments about Mary and Mark handling the web page! They did a great job with the two SSMCs I've been on and I'm sure there will be plenty of things for many of us to volunteer to do. As an example, for SSMC06, our group hired a bus to pick up DVC members that were staying at WDW. It was much less expensive than using a limo or DCL transportation. :pixiedust: Annmarie
