A cat would love that you're gone all day! :) 99% of the time my cat couldn't care less if we were gone. The other 1% he's bugging us for food or to go outside on the lanai. I think he only keeps us around because we have opposable digits.

In the past we have gotten cats from a shelter, and you need to spend some time with them in the beginning. Our last one was a semi-feral and after a few months he ended up a lovable lap cat. At that time my DW and I worked different shifts and someone was always home.

Flo - glad things worked out with the frozen pipe! We had several feet of water in our basement a few years ago. We had lost electricity and the sump pump stopped working. What mess that was!
Hey everyone, hope the New Year brings a fresh start to all! Not sure if the info is available but for those who have done this before, can us Membercruisers do the normal DCL pickup & transfer from the hotel, like we would if we were just normal cruisers?
I am looking into a bus so if you are interested send me a PM.

Let's see it is January and the cruise is coming up in September, so what did I do this week? I ordered my FE from a person on Ebay of course! :rotfl2:
My closest friend who is more like family made mine for our October 2008 cruise DH won. I'm planning to use it this cruise too!

Welcome back to this post for those of you who haven't been here for a while.

Mary - i'm impressed with all of the work you have done with the scrapbooks. I wish I was able to participate with SSMC06 but there was too much going on at the time. Also, thanks for the birthday announcements. Hopefully I haven't missed anyone.

Congrats to everyone on the pirates and swans! I need to pay more attention to post numbers.

Flo - I can't believe how big Bolt is getting. They don't stay small for long. Also, sorry to hear you are out of work. We had a RIF (Reduction In Force) in December and lost some people who had been with the company a long time. At least two of them had 20 plus years each! It is difficult to see good friends go.

Thanks Annmarie. Would you believe I just got my circle journal from the 2006 cruise back a month or so ago and there are still some people who don't have theirs back. We had a few bumps in the road where books got delayed. Of course who am I to talk since I just finished my own book! :)

I have a feeling this is gonna be an awesome cruise. I only hope that the Members Crusie in 2010 doesn't conflict with the TransAtlantic one I'm already on - cuz I know I'm gonna want to go again!

I was on the regular discussion part and found the below. Just thought I would post incase someone may be interested in doing it. I may do it or I may send to the hotel the night before. I am not sure. If it goes to the Magic then I don’t have to carry it. I would do this for things I am not bringing back.

In regards to your email a guest can ship a box to our location for delivery the ship, however the box needs to be no bigger than like a file box, lets say 24x24x12, you will need to have a packing list on the outside of the box with your name, stateroom, sail date, and cabin number on it. We would need the package a few days in advance of your sailing date to ensure the loading of the package to the housekeeping department who will be putting the package in your stateroom for your arrival on board. The mailing address is IDS, 9001 Marlin Street Cape Canaveral, Fl. 32920. If you should have any further questions please call me on my cell phone and I would be glad to review everything with you.

That is a good point! I wonder if there is going to be a conflict with that.

We were not going to even cruse this year. We usually go ever other year. But I really wanted to do a member cruise. Not sure about 2010, we may probably wait till the new ships. Not sure if I could wait though.

Speaking of things being crazy at work...I know that now that the holidays are behind us I'm going to get a lot busier. Which means that while I'll still be here every day I may be rushed. That means I could forget a birthday - something I wouldn't want to happen. Soooooo what I'm going to do is post the group birthdays (for those who gave them to me for the website) around the first of each month. Then we can all do our best to give celebration on the actual day.

Good morning everyone - happy Tuesday!

For those who want to see/read about the DIS party bus from 2006 here is the page from our trip report for that day http://monorailgreen.info/member2006/day2.htm The Beach Club was picked because the majority of the people using it were staying at Beach Club/Boardwalk before or after the cruise. Having just one pick-up/drop-off spot made it the most affordable. For those not staying at these hotels I believe most took a cab/van over and many of them car-pooled it to make it more affordable.

You'll notice that was also a year where we did t-shirts for the group. One of the ladies of the group opened up a cafe press store with a no profit status and we were able to order shirts for the group. We haven't had t-shirts for the group the last two years but it is something we could think about.

As for the pre-cruise DIS meet. Yes we have picked the Beach Club but if the group wants it somewhere else we're fine with that. We picked it for the 2006 DIS meet at the suggestion of one of the DISers. They suggested the Solarium and it has worked well for us as it is an indoor space so we don't have to worry about weather, usually isn't busy, is not inside a park (since some people cruising don't have park tickets), and again close to Beach Club and Boardwalk where many were staying. It worked out so well we had the 2007 and 2008 meets there as well.

Hope this helps - any questions ask away!

We feel like we dodged a bullet last night. We were possibly going to get freezing rain/sleet, but, fortunately for us, the temp never got below 34 degrees. So, it's cold and wet outside, but I'm not complaining!

The year's started out a little dodgy...oldest DD and DGD have strep throat  . Another DD has a sinus infection and so it goes. I'm petrified of getting sick since I babysit DGD7mos 3 days a week and don't want to be responsible for her getting ill. (It's amazing how different it is being a grandmother as opposed to a mother! I can just sit and watch that baby play all day!)

Good morning everyone - happy Wednesday. Wasn't on much last night as Mark was putting a new hard drive in my computer. So I helped back up some e-mails etc. and then let him have the computer while I watched the Biggest Loser.

Joanne - we switched from BWV (where we own) to BCV last year at 7 months with no problems. I would think that since Food and Wine doesn't start until well after the Member Cruise that you should have a good chance. I would do it as soon as it becomes available.

No fun being sick! Mark was sick from Christmas day on and is just getting over it now. pixiedust: P & PD that you and the baby don't catch anything.

Now I'm really mad we aren't going this year. It's fun doing all the planning. I will hopefully get to cruise though...going to pay to take my neice on one in Aug.

Well, it has been awhile since I have been on. Ever since the middle of December life has pretty much stunk for our families. We are trying to stay positive and I need to be on here for my therapy. It really does help keep me in my happy place (if only for a while).

I would like to say a big Happy Birthday to all of the ones I have missed. Hope all who have had them have had a great day!

Also, for those on the East Coast getting the yucky weather, I hope you are safe and it gets better for you. I know that we are to be getting freezing rain/sleet/snow tomorrow. We had ice last Saturday and it was horrible. Thankfully it was mostly gone by the time the Monday morning drive came around.

We have also been busy trying to plan our June trip to Saratoga. We just are bummed that Disney has not updated the Calendars for June yet. Our oldest daughter wants to go for Star Wars Days and we can't find any information. We are planning on being there June 5-12. I just hope they get the information out soon so we can try to plan the rest of the trip.

Well, I have babbled on long enough. Have a great Thursday everyone!

Good morning everyone!

Chris all you have to do is go to this years web page (the we page not the Member Gallery). Both links can be found in the very first post of this thread. On the main web page are links to our 2003, 2005, 2006, and 2007 trips (we'll have to do 2008 soon). When you click on each of those links it will take you to a main page with other links (I know lots and lots of links :lmao:) The first link will be that years main page and then all the other links are to the different days of the trip reports.

Hope this helps you and anyone else who wants to see what happened on past Member Cruises.

Mary, thanks for the links. I just went and read your report for 2007 and it brought back great memories. I loved listening to Andrea McArdle. I remember her as the original Annie and, I hate to say, she made me cry by her singing.

I have to say that the throws we got on the last night are on my couches in the living room. Since we got 4 of them, I have two out and the girls each have their own. And I do use mine while sitting in my chair watching TV. :)

I did find ourselves in the group photo too. But, I know where we are standing. I remember that morning being very hot standing out there while waiting for the photo to be taken. It was fun though and I'm sure we will do it again this time.

Again, Thanks!!!!!:flower3:

Happy Friday! And good luck on your daughter's audition. What kind of dancing does she do?

This particular audition is for the Royal Winnipeg Ballet's summer program. I'm trying to downplay the importance of actually "making it" for the audition. Her dance instructor is sending her for the audition experience and "collecting letters" as she calls it. There is a lot of rejection in dance and we're trying to help her grow into that aspect of auditioning, winning some, and losing some.

She also takes jazz, tap, lyrical, and ballroom - but ballet is her strongest. That girl loves to dance!

Very smart to not make it "imperative" that they make it for all auditions. Our DD13 is also very much into ballet and wishes that she could do more outside of our local opportunities. I think that it is nice that they continue dancing, as most girls that she has danced with (started at 3yo) have all dropped it because it wasn't "cool" anymore.

I just got ack from doing my cousin a favor. She does not have her car and she had to go pick up one of her friend from the hospital. It was no fun out there. I tried the expressway but that was worse then the streets with trafic.

Hope it all goes away by the time you need to drive tomorrow.:wizard: We have to be out of the house by 8:30 tomorrow.

I live in Wisconsin, near the Illinois border. The Lake Geneva area. I know Woodfield well. I go there at least twice a year when they have events at Doorway to Dreams (usually Feb and Aug). They usually sucker me into adding onto my DVC with the incentives there.

We'll have to leave here by 6:00am in order to get downtown and all registered for auditions by 9:00am. I sure hope the weather breaks by then. Its nothing to drive in this stuff up here where there are lots of wide open spaces, but downtown Chicago - yuck!

We usually take the train from Harvard when we go into the city. The kids love it. But we need to drive for this one cuz the train doesn't run as early on the weekends as it does during the week.

I'll let you know how it goes!

Kelly,

My nice lives on the boarder of Lake Geneva in IL. I can't remember her bub, but Lake Geneva is her park district. I think it may be Sugar Grove.

We usually go to the DVC in Feb and August to. We see each other and don't even know it maybe.

By the time you come the expressways should be good:wizard:

Take care and stay safe.

That is really cool. My daughters also dance but nothing like that. They take tap, jazz and ballet. Good luck to your daughter.

Flo and Mary, thanks for the good vibes :goodvibes . So far, so good for baby and me.

Mary, I think we're going to try getting BCV for Sept. Gonna keep my fingers crossed. (BCV is the one DVC resort we've never stayed at, so I'd like to try it.)

Robbie, I hope the ice is history for you and for all of you northern folk. I think CC is a great thing to concentrate on now. Oh, cabana boy.....

You'll love BCV. I stayed there in December for the first time and really enjoyed it. Let's just say ... there may be another add-on in the future :rolleyes1

On the ice, yep, the ice is history now. With another snow storm coming tomorrow, I am just counting down the days until CC! :beach:

Yuck on the ice! Not fun at all. Here's hoping the driving wasn't too bad as the streets often get coated with it as well.

Luckily for me, by the time that I left work the roads were in good shape.

This will be our first member cruise...last Disney cruise I realized that I had to give up and get my knees replaced. At 58, I thought I would breeze through it....WRONG. I had both knees replaced on 11/20. I am finally feeling like I might survive. So, now I should be able to do anything I want on the cruise without pain or fear of falling.

Live here in the northeast...tomorrow is my granddaughter's 4th birthday. She is to be having a party at Hershey's Chocolate World...and it is supposed to snow 6 to 8 inches tomorrow. Cross your fingers and give me som pixie dust that the snow misses us or holds off until her party is over.

Counting down the days. I feel bad about my favorite mouseketeer Chery's passing. Sounds like she had a lot of sorrow in her life, having lost 2 husbands. I wonder if she had any children. She was so pretty...and she and Wally Cleaver made such a cute couple.

I can't wait to see who will be sailing with us.

Awwww....thanks for remembering about me guys!

It was pretty yucky out there. I got up at 4:00am this morning to shovel. Left my house at 5:15am when I saw the weather. The auditions were at 9:00am right downtown at the Joffrey Building on Randolf. I got all parked at 8:40am. (Usually it only takes about 1 hou 45 minutes to get there.) So we made it, but it made for a VERY long drive. The drive home was actually WORSE! I thought while we were there it would stop snowing, but that wasn't the case. We were going 25mph on the expressway on the way back home - it was brutal.

I probably wouldn't have gone had I known it would be that bad. But we had a great time. Courtney did awesome, and I met some really great moms there. Not the over-bearing, pushy ones you sometimes see. We won't find out if she made it until they send letters out next week. But that really wasn't the purpose of it all and I'm just glad she felt so comfortable.

Even more glad that its over. :rolleyes1

I think the next audition is Feb. 14th. Hopefully we won't have any snow that time around.

Tell me about it! When I shovelled at 4:00am I thought I would have a good head start and when I got home I wouldn't have much to do. But it was like I hadn't done a darn thing! I'm so sore. I just got in about an hour ago. I keep thinking I'm gonna buy a snow thrower, but I never do because I tell myself I won't be here for another winter. I guess buying the snow thrower commits me to another winter. :sad2:

Want a tip? Wait till thaw and check out the lawn & garden repair shops, they end up with a bunch of new & used to get rid of, you can probably find a good deal on one. That's snowthrowers, not husbands. ;)

Well... I'm not as tired as I thought I'd be, but a lot of that is due to the snowthrower we have is a tank. I'd estimate we got a total of 9-12 with drifts deeper than that. And coming back from work I was amazed at the number of cars out in the middle of the mess, just running local errands to the stores, not specific tasks like yours.

Congrats on making it back safe and sound. :)

Good Sunday Morning All! :) Hope today is less eventfull in the weather department.

Flo - yes we got snow Friday night into Saturday. They said we would get a trace to 2 inches where we are and we got over 6 inches! I'm glad we didn't get the 9-12 like you guys though. On Friday it started out as freezing rain then turned to ice pellets before finally turning to snow. Yuck! And I just looked outside this morning and it looks like we got more snow last night. My DH has a John Deere Gator that he uses to push snow. And he says thank god we got that! It works great on our driveway, which is fairly long, on an incline and with a curve in it.

Kelly - glad you made it to Chicago and back safely. My knuckles would have been white and I would have had a serious headache from driving on roads like that. I will be anxious to hear how your daughter did. Be sure to keep us posted.

More snow in the forecast - oh goody! NOT!

Bruce - safe travels for your trip down and I hope you and Nancy enjoy your visit. That's great that you could take advantage of the 4 + 3 deal and get to see your son. Another friend also has a son that is starting the college program. I believe he starts today as he flew in yesterday. Do you know where you son will be working yet?

Flo - what Bruce is talking about is the Big Fig that was given to those who added on during last years Member Cruise. He's asking is anyone did an add on but doesn't want it that he'd be willing to buy it from them. Hope that clears it up for you.

Have a good day everyone. I'm running late this morning and have a doctor's appointment this afternoon so I think it is going to be a crazy day. :)

Kelly is exactly right. You only got one if you added on to DVC. That's why Bruce is looking for one. He and Nancy didn't do an add on this cruise.

I loved the Big Fig but we have no room for one (we do have one of Dumbo) and we weren't in an add on mood.

I know Mary has already supplied some information but if you are interested in taking a chartered bus, please send me a PM with the following information:

Dis User Name
WDW Resort Prior To SSMC09
WDW Resort After SSMC09
# of Adults
# of Children & Age(s)

I believe the last time we did this, we had approximately 50 people which filled the bus. Everyone was asked to be at one resort around 8:30 or 9:00 because we wanted to get to the port as early as possible.

2. The fish extenders sound very intresting. Does each stateroom have a fish in which you can attach to?

I know it is early but I was wondering if any one be interested on doing a Fish Extender exchange. The reason it is called fish extender is you hang what you want your little trinkets to be put in on there. These are right out side the room. Please let me know your thoughts.

*Fish Extenders – We will be putting little things in them through out the cruise. Like, Paper, Pencils, stickers, playing cards, pirate things etc. To do this I would compile a list with Room Numbers and names and hand out at the DIS meet on Ship. You could PM me this.

**Fish Extender Gifts - This can be EVERY day or you pick a day to distribute all your gifts. There really is no set rule for gift-giving, it is up to you as to what and how much you want to give... each to their own accord. It was allot of fun to come back to are room and find something there. It also gave me a chance to see parts of the ship I never saw in the previous cruises.

I need this trip to wdw so bad, I am really getting burnt out here in CT. Work has been stressfull, Weather has been stressfull and also family life. My mother and father in law were both admitted to the hospital ... mom home now but dad still in. dad altzheimers in third stage and now needs 24 care.

wdw is the only way i can charge up my batteries to keep on going.

Bruce, I hope your trip helps to relieve some of the stress you're undergoing. DH and I both lost our moms in 2008; both of them had dementia (though vascular, not Alzheimer's), so I understand a little of what you're dealing with. It is so very hard. Buckets of PD for you! :wizard:

Mary, Flo, and Chris, thank you so much for your kind thoughts. Needless to say, 2008 will be an unforgettable year in our family; we still miss them so much. On the bright side, May brought us a delightful gift in the person of our new granddaughter, Riley. She's been the big joy of our lives  . She has made me smile and laugh more than I would have thought possible.

Morning!

Got up this morning and found snow on the ground! I thought that when it is bitter cold it does not snow? Guess I was wrong. They are saying 3 to 5 inches of snow. In some areas visibility is no good. By the end of the week they are saying we will be below -0- in double digest. The supper cold weather scares me; if you are out to long it is no good.

Mary - I guess we now know why the guy from the Weather Channel was here yesterday.

Have a good day and say warm if you are any were that the weather is not good. Also, stay safe.

Good morning everyone - happy Wednesday!

Yep another snowy cold day here in Chicago. Enough!

Joanne - how wonderful that as sad as 2008 was for you that you have the beautiful addition of Riley!

The fish extenders are like getting a little bit like Christmas each day. I am always amazed at the creativity some of the DISers put into their gifts. Last year we got a Louisville slugger (not the real size - about a foot long) in our extender as well as a beautiful tile from Stone Mountain, GA as well as some peach preserves! Then of course they is the usually selection of candy and pirate stuff. All good fun.

Flo - not sure if Jim Cantore was here for the snow or the cold. I just wish he would go home and take the snow and cold with him. :rotfl:

Hey, I was on that cruise! :)
Didn't see those fishies though. :)

That's because a) you don't snorkel and b) you were on the family beach with the kids.

I will say it is doubtful we'll go snorkeling at Serenity Bay on the Member Cruise. Reason is that there is such a large number of adults traveling without kids on this cruise that Serenity Bay is usually packed. Last year we went to the far end of the family beach and a bunch of DIS families were there. Mark stayed on the shore reading a book while I joined some of the DISers sitting in the water on the short chairs.
