Says as soon as I have our vacation savings account to the point that we can put down 20% we can do it!!! Of course since we just got back from WDW, the savings account was recently drained...

$2100 to go!!!! :)

Yeah, thats something we are thinking about, but we sat down and agreed:

1. We will only do this once we have 20% down...

2. We will NOT charge it to a credit card...

3. We will not take out of our normal savings to fund this...

4. We will not reduce the amount we put into our 401K and IRA accounts to fund this....

5. This money will come out of our vacation savings account, which is funded by my expense reimbursements at work...

I guess we are very conservative people and vacation expenses, no matter how much we love WDW, will only come after the basics... Plus, right now we are 33 and joining the DVC will keep us happy for 40 years, so if we buy in October instead of May its no biggy... Still, I am very happy knowing that we have agreed to this and within 4 or 5 months we will be DVC owners....

Jon99, you will be happy that you are doing it that way. I'm pushing 60 and have done that from the day I started working. I never felt I missed anything and it feels good laying my head on the pillow at night and not have to worry about big bills.

The bonus is you get to retire in comfort.

Spend some, save some equals balance.

Thanks for the kind words.. Tell ya what though, usually we have good self control, but we both LOVE WDW and we have had to talk ourselves out of buying into the DVC about 450 times in the last month... :)

OK, somebody has to balance all these sensible opinions.
Buy now sez I.

20% down now =$2,250
$5/point incentive= 750
Net down payment=$1500 by April 30.

20% down after June 1 =$2,400
Save $900.

Just wanted to share our story--Visited DVC last summer. They were selling VWL & said we could put our downpayment on credit card, etc. They weren't pushy (of course, it's Disney, they don't have to be!!) We wanted to do it soooooo bad, but we decided to hold off until we came home to reality. Sure enough, we basically made same decision as you--no credit card . . . had to be cash down. I'm happy to report that over Easter break, we went back to check things out again. Not only did we buy 350 points, but the incentives were great & we're really excited about the BCV!! (Our 5 kiddos thought SAB was awesome) Best wishes!
