Figured I'll do something constructive to help with the wait! Who's going on the magic 9/21? I'll be w/DH and DS (6). Any other kids around his age?

This will be our third September Magic Cruise. We took our first ever cruise on the Magic September 23, 2000. Then we were part of the DIS Cruisetoberfest on the Magic September 22, 2001. We will be celebrating our 25th Wedding Anniversary on this cruise. We have become really addicted to Disney Cruises. We have cruised both with and without our teenage children. This time will be without. However, my Sister and BIL and my wife's Brother and SIL will also be cruising with us. This will be their first ever cruises.
Can't wait.

I went solo in Feb. and still can't stop raving about it, so my DH and DS are "forcing" me to take them in Sept. :D
Sounds like you and your families are going to have fun!
What <i>is</i> a Cruisetoberfest??

Cruisetoberfest was just the name the large group of DISers that were sailing on the Magic September 22, 2001 gave to the criuse. We even had T-shirts and hats made up with the name on them. In part it came from the Octoberfest which we were told starts on September 22 and that we had a couple from Germany in our group. Through the boards we also found out a lot of people on the cruise had some German hertiage. We had a large number of DIS cruisers on the "DIS cruise list" and over 1000 posts on our 9/22/01 topic. We even set up our own chat times and had an international chat with our German cruisers.
Being right after 9/11 also made it an adventure. As you can see from the picture below it was also one of the few times the Disney Magic and Disney Wonder were together. The Disney Wonder was just coming out of dry dock and preparing for is first cruise after dry dock the next day.
Have you added your name to the DIS Cruise List. See topic at the top of this forum. I also have a picture in DIS Family album of DW and I on our first cruise in 2000.

Hi, Dee--
I'm glad to hear that you're going on another cruise, but I'm sorry that you didn't choose to go a week later! Right now, Ed & I are booked on the 9/28/02 Western cruise--the only thing that will keep us from going is if our schnauzer is not well. Elaine is also booked for 9/28. I'm sure you'll find a great bunch of folks on this cruise also.
Keep in touch, Karen

Say HI to all the Cruisetoberfesters on the 9/28/02 cruise you are on. I would be cruising on the Western route with you and them except I made the reseverations for this week with my in-laws before the Western cruises were annouced. I tried to convince my DW to do back to back Eastern then Western to join the Cruisetoberfest bunch, but she wasnt' convinced.
Maybe next year. :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:
Have a GREAT Cruise.

Had to reformat my computer and start from scratch -- nothing like getting bits and pieces of the computer dying on you when you have deadlines!
Welcome, cumickey! I'm glad you'll be joining us! It will be my 2nd cruise, and I'm having a hard time waiting for it. Hope you'll have as great a time on your 1st as I did! Where are you all coming from? We're from WA.
Karen, I can't believe we missed each other by a week! :( That should teach me to check in with fellow cruisers before I book my next one!!! Soooo...where are you and Ed going to be on 9/28 at around 9AM? I figured maybe we can meet somewhere after we disembark and before you board...:)
Cheeseplease...Yes, I added my name, finally, to the list. Thanks for reminding me...I'm not sure how many of us we'll be this time, but I'm thinking a get-together will probably be in order!
That's all folks! If my machine doesn't die completely, I'll take better care of this thread from now on! Let's get this trip going!

Dave,
DH and I will be joining you this year again. Actually, we're doing a back-to-back again but we'll miss joining the other Cruisetoberfest folks because we are doing 9/14 and 9/21. (DH is in a wedding during the 9/28 cruise so we couldn't go with the rest of the folks).
Nancy
Hey Windy and Cheese!!!! Talked to Eric and Anja by email the other day and I think that they are going on back to back in October 2003. Are you guys up for a cruisetoberfest II?
Enjoy your cruise and give Ellen a hug.Windy give George a hug from us.

Papa,
October 03 sounds like a good plan. Since Magic will be in dry dock at the end of Sept. Maybe we should try to get the first cruise back. All sparkly clean and newly re-hab'd. We decided to do western then eastern this year so we go all out on adventure to new places the first week and relax the second week or else we may have been on with you again. That and we have that wedding on 10/5.
Here's hoping we can all get back together again in 2003. Cruisetoberfest II.

It will be great cruising with you. The back to back eastern/western should be great. Maybe I can convince DW to do that in 2003. I think October right out of dry dock sounds good for the 2003 version of Cruisetoberfest.
Papa, give Kathy a hug for Ellen and me. I try to keep up with your 9/28 posts. I see Eric doesn't have his new wheels yet. Sounds like a sharp car.

We'll be at the Raddison too! We used the FALL code for the special rate. Where are you coming from, Dave? We're from WA. Anyone else staying there the night before?
I don't know Papa and Kathy but Congratulations to them!
For the few of us who <i>are</i> going on 9/21-- lime green ribbons? We can meet after the boat drill if you'd like...Or some other time during the cruise.
Maybe more DISers will come out of the woodwork the closer we get to 9/21. I hope. I'll keep bumping this post back up.

dee47
05-22-2002, 11:48 AM
We're thiniking of the 5-Star Trunk Bay excursion. As for St. Maarten, I'm not sure. We'll either do the French Riviera or Sea & See. We may just be bombs and have the ship to ourselves on the St. Maarten day -- I was really not impressed with the island when I went solo in Feb. Of course, I hear Golden Eagle Catamaran is good. Anyone know if a 6 year-old would enjoy it??

We will be flying in from Albany. Have a very early flight Friday morning, so we are renting a car and will problably spend some time at Disney Village and the Orlando outlets before heading to the Radisson at the Port.
As far as excusions, I would definitely recomment the 12 Metre Sailing Regatta at St. Martin. We have done it 3 times and it is a blast. You are part of the crew during the race. You can choose from "active", "semi-active" or "non-active" jobs on the boat. The competition of the race makes it really exiting too.
We have also done the 5-star St. Johns Trunk Bay snorkle excursion. Although Trunk bay is tremendous, I probably would not to it again. The boat ride their and back are quite long. You don't get to spend much time at St. John actually snorkling or spending time on the beach. I would rather stay closer to St. Thomas and have more time to enjoy the beaches and water.

I'd love to do the regatta, but on port days I don't want to plan on having my son in the club (if he chosses to that's a different story). The Regatta is for ages 12 and up, and he'll only be 6 in Sept.
Good point about the St. John excursion - haven't thought about the transit time. I might reconsider -- what would be your recommendation?

I just booked the 9/21 on the Magic. We went in November of last year, but my husband was on chemo and not feeling very well. We went because we were meeting his brother from Texas and he didn't want to miss it. The 22nd is our 18th anniversary, and since he is feeling MUCH better this year, we decided we had to do it again. I think he will have a much better time this year - he'll even be able to eat the food! Anita.

dee47 - we are going to do WDW after the cruise, to help the depression when the cruise comes to an end!!!. But we will be at the Raddison the night before, I just booked that.
Cheese Please - can you give me examples of what the different jobs are on the regatta in regards to the active, semi and non - active you mentioned. Do they ask you which you want at the time of booking or at the regatta?. TIA
Anyone else doing this cruise?, is it going to be empty?, is there something someone is not telling us?!??!? :D

My wife and I will be on this cruise. I have noticed that the category 10, 11, and 12 are all sold out when you check for a price quote through the DCL web site. Does this mean the ship will be crowded? Does this mean possible upgrades if one is in one of these categories? I'm hoping!!!

Just made my final payment today. That makes it seem so much closer.
I must have missed some of the earlier posts, because I see some questions about the 12 Metre Regatta. Concerning the different jobs, the "active" jobs are the main grinder and I think it was "primary" grinder. These are strenuous job for a short period of time as the boat is coming about (turning). The semi-active job that I remember (because that is what I have had) is rear grinder. Not quite as strenuous and again in short burts to trim the sails as coming about. The less active jobs include Winch Wench that winds and set the lines on the rear winch after coming about and lets the lines out on the opposite side. They give you instructions on how to do all this and then let you try it out before the race. There is also the "Cooler Queen" that hands out soda, water and beer.....very important job. The is also time keeper that has the watch that is used at the start of the race. You have to keep time from the dropping of flags to know when you can pass the start point. Don't want to goof up on that one or the skipper gets angry......all in jest. It is really a lot of fun and the competion makes it very interesting too. You want to go into it with lots of enthusiasim.
There are several trip reports on this and I think some other information on the DIS site. I have done it three times so you can tell I like it.
Oh, they also take a picture of the boat and crew undersail from a little motorboat. If you are in the back, you get seen in the picture a lot better. They also sell T-shirts, hats and other stuff after the regatta is completed.
Hope this helps.

We are booking the Butterfly Farm tour in St M. I am trying to decide if we should do the Coral World/Island Drive in the am and the St. Christopher snorkel in the pm or if we should just do one or the other. I think DS would enjoy the Coral World, but I've never been snorkeling and am interested in trying that. Based upon the time schedule they give you, it would be possible to do both, but I'm not sure if its too rushed to try to do both. Any thoughts?

Travelingmice - I've booked the 12m Regatta for dh, and for other excursions I think we will do our own thing so we can be more flexible with DS3.5. If you think you might want to do that too, here is a thread I started that may of be of help.
http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=209518
or you could post a seperate thread to ask others how close the times are and if anyone else has done 2 excursions in one day.

Thanks for the link to your thread - lots of good information there.
We've decided to just do the coral world excursion and maybe during nap-time dh and I will wander about while my parents keep ds. I did look into doing Coral World separate, but we figured we would do the excursion since its not that much more than the admission plus taxi and you get the island tour also.

We went on the 4 day cruise last September and loved it. My son only stayed in the club a few hours at the most, although he did enjoy it. He did not know anyone and wanted to be with us. We only left him to do Palo and spa reservations, which worked out fine. But, I am hoping he will take more interest in the club this time, since we will be on the ship 7 days. We will have to introduce our boys so they can hang out. My son loved the arcade last time.

poohntigger, you are correct: DISboard members wear lime green ribbons to identify each other. I'm hoping at least some of us will see each other either in the terminal or, if there is interest, for a few minutes after the boat drill in the lounge. The ribbons, whether on your clothes or your luggage, work "Magic," and it's fun to put a face to the names we've seen on this board. Anyway, everyone, let me know if anyone wants to meet after the boat drill.

Count my son in on meeting your sons! He's turing 6 about 2 weeks before the Cruise. We'll be celebrating his Birthday on the ship ( and our Anniversary, too!).
He didn't stay in the club too much on the last Cruise ( unlike our 9 year old who closed down the Lab everynight!), so maybe if he can make a few new friends right away, he'll have a better time!

Dee:
I WISH we were going to the parks before the cruise! I do plan on trying to talk my husband into going to the Magic Kingdom for the day when we get off the ship! Wish me luck!
Anywhere you want to meet on board is fine. We plan on repeating our routine from the Wonder in December: get on board as early as we can, eat lunch on the deck of Topsiders, take the boys to the pool ( it won't be crowded yet!) and then one of us will go register the kids in their programs and make Palo reservations.
So, meeting at the pool ( Mickey pool) might be our best bet. My kids might be shy at first, so they may not make an instant connection with anyone, but give them time!
Chip
Dee and the rest of the 09/21 cruisers have a safe and wonderful cruise and give Cheese Please and his family a big ole hug from us. Take care of the ship and we will use it the following week. Mike
