It is so disrespectful to take pictures with the flash even though the quality is not better without the flash, but you should listen to the announcement when you go on the rides. Even with F!, there is no flash photography and people still do it.

Isn't that why you asked, No flash photos please? As do the notices when you get on rides?

i think that is why she asked... it is rude!! it blinds the person next you and most people get really bad migraines from flash photos.. some of those flash's can be super bright!! i think we have talked about this!

onb our last trip earlier this month we went on Haunted Mansion and the cast member stopped the ride twice and kept telling people to stop taking flash pictures... first time that happened repeatedly like that.. they just maybe didnt undertand english or ignored it... that was annoying...

I wish CM's would do that more often. I hope that you were able to enjoy your visit down the ol' bayou, well enough, despite the flashing.

I am figuring not, actually. For there is not one day, I would bet anything, where the pirates do not get flashed at some point, and on many occasion as well. It is a nice idea though, regarding people actually not taking flash pictures, nor doing anything else annoying to others around them.

I was quite pleasantly surprised on my visits with the pirates last month. For I only noticed a couple of people taking flash pictures during different voyages. I could not say anything about it, because they were too far ahead from me, in another boat. But otherwise, everyone behaved themselves. I was pleased.

How about your experiences? I don't care if it was yesterday, or last year. I am always interested in reading new tales.

How about your experiences? I don't care if it was yesterday, or last year. I am always interested in reading new tales.

Before I go into my story, I have to say that the biggest reasons why people flash their cameras (in areas restricted from flash photography) are:

1. They simply don't know how to turn the flash off. Yes, some people are genuinely that camera-ignorant and don't know the basic functions of their camera. It's either on and taking pictures in full-auto mode, or it's off. Telling them to turn the flash off is like saying, "Would you mind setting your exposure value to +1/3 and ISO to 400? Thanks KBAI!"

2. Language barrier. I'd love to see some illustration with a flashing camera in both the cars and illuminated at the queuing station. This image is universal and anyone who has eyesight gets the gist of it: http://www.techdigest.tv/no-flash.jpg

3. They are an anatomical part. These are people who feel "No" is for everyone else, not them. I met a #3 on my last trip and this is what happened:

DH and I rode POTC (first row) and two rows back was a woman with a huge DSLR and mounted flash with a fast recycle time, so we're talking lots of strobe effect. She kept taking pictures of every single aspect of the ride. We both told her to stop using the flash, and so did the couple behind us (one row in front of the 'flasher'). Our pleas stopped her for about 15 seconds, then she'd begin again. And it wasn't like she was just taking pics side-to-side: she aimed her camera dead-ahead too, so we would catch the flash from our perepheral vision, temporarily blinding us.

We had HAD IT.

Since no CM announced a "no flash pictures" to our boat (were they sleeping?), we in the first two rows devised a plan.

As everyone got off the boat, we waited (with cameras in hand) at the gate. As the flasher-woman approached...our cameras were ready. We all took aim and flashed our cameras into her face. And then we turned around and left. The end. :goodvibes :lmao:

I'd like to add that people who forget to turn their flash off, and then turn it off after seeing it go off, don't count. Accidents happen. I'm griping about whole-ride flashers.

Thank you for sharing your experiences. How truly annoying that had to have been. It would make one feel like accidentally bumping that camera into the deep blue bayou. I like what you and the other guests did. And I hope that she realized why.
I very much like the universal sign for no flash photography. I wonder why it is not utilized by Disney?

That sounds like a good plan. We also had a flasher on the haunted mansion. A man cut me off in line to get to the ride, he was busy video taping. Then, all along the ride were flashes from the back. It was very irritating.

This is a quote from Mama Who's mini TR

"(One family had an inability to control a badly behaved child but once a guy who *has* to have been retired military barked, "Stop turning those lights on, young man! You're being rude to everyone!" the matter was settled. I heart that man, wherever he is.)"

That is understandable. After all accidents can happen.

Just for the record, it clearly states in that map that Flash Photography is not allowed on ANY attraction. There may be some attractions where they will specifically allow it, but you must be told that it is allowed.

I just got the Panasonic DMC-TS3 and it takes AMAZING photos in low light (works great on Little Mermaid). I am still working on the setting for HM though.

Bottom line is any P&S camera that runs around $300 should be able to take low light pictures very quickly. Yes, this is the higher end for P&S cameras, but that means you get a better camera.

Thank you for your post. As well as gracias for everyone as well. Your camera sounds very nice. I cannot wait until I can afford to purchase a camera. There are so many on the market though, that I end up getting confused. In the meantime, I have.............wait for it......... but a lowly camera phone to use. Which actually takes fairly good pictures considering the source. But still ......

Maybe the maps need to be printed in different languages, at least the policies anyway.

For chronic flashers I like to flash my camera back at them in their face. It's quite fun. lol Some of the pictures we get of their face is hilarious too! I'm actually surprised that we didn't get too many people using flash last week. We had a few but not nearly as bad as we've had it in the past. Some just ruin the whole ride with it, and we get off seeing the flashes for several minutes afterwards.

Thank you for your reply. I think that is humorous too, flashing your camera right back into said offenders facial. I would love to see that (I think, you know ... more flashing) It would just be nice if everyone knew not to use flash photography on the dark rides, and would respect the policy. That is partly the problem, there are people that know the policy, but just do not care to follow it. And for a number of self validating reasons too.

Saw a few on Pirates but this was in about 8 or 9 rides so not bad overall. Told someone on HM that's it's dark on purpose stop lighting it up with your camera.

Grrr...another idiot starting taking flash pics the other night on Pirates. After the 2nd drop, there was an announcement that told ppl to not take flash pictures. After we went through the "waterfall," a man in the front row starting taking flash pics every now & then. 1st, I just ignored it. Maybe he just wanted to take a pic of a specific thing, understandable. But then he started doing it more often. Once we went in the jail room, I knew that if he took another pic, I'd have enough bc it's a dark room & it's pretty small. Of course his camera flashed & I yelled, "Ow my eyes!" I was hoping it would sink into his puny little brain, but it didn't bc he took his last pic of Jack Sparrow in the treasure room. When the ride was over, I took out my digital camera & tired to flash it into his eyes, but I don't think it was very successful bc, of course, he was 2 rows in front of me! :headache:

I was on Peter Pan last week and the people in the ship behind mine kept taking flash pictures! Seriously!? In Peter Pan? They totally had the magic ruined for them in those photos, and ruined my experience as well.

I also had a person in the Doombuggy straight in front of me in the séance room take a flash picture, completely blinded me. Grrr.

Amazingly, I didn't have much trouble on Pirates.

Of course I thought of you, Gisele, on all occasions!

I'm guilty of this sometimes. It's just that I have a pocket camera or sometimes even a cellphone and it would look pitch black without flash. And about the video cams, my camera can't record if the LCD screen is closed. It automatically pauses so I need to keep it open.

I don't think the fact that you can't get a good picture without using flash justifies ruining the ride for others. If you want to take pictures on dark rides, get a camera that can do it.

As for the video cam, you could get a piece of black cloth to cover the LCD screen while you're recording. If it's not too thick, you should still be able to see enough of the screen to know that you're shooting without the bright screen ruining others experience.

Great idea about the black cloth to cover the screen! I love that idea!!

I've got a "pocket" camera too but I always turn the flash off so I don't ruin the ride for others. or cause migraines, which (if you read back) has actually happened to me..... :)

Thanks for the black cloth tip, definitely gonna try that :)

As for the flash I guess I just didn't think much of it because I personally have never feel annoyed by the flash from other people. If any I always thought it makes me be able to see more detail of the puppets/characters lol. It never occurred to me that others may feel annoyed by that until this thread. I definitely gonna try not to take any pic with flash next time.

I agree I always try and ride pirates in the front row because then the flashers are behind me. Once my little sister flat out told some flashers to stop they said it wasnt them and she was like I just watched you. The fact of the matter is that some people are inconsiderate and it doesn't matter to them weather or not
their flash is disturbing your ride experience all that matters is there grainy over exposed pictures of pirates :confused3 its best to try not to let it bother you or try and avoid it by using tricks like sitting in the front row on pirates.
