Welcome!

To my Pre-Trip Report. Better known in these parts as a P-T-R!

I’m still almost 2 months out from my trip, but a few DISers have been buggi– I mean asking me -- to start a PTR. :rolleyes1 (you're welcome, T!)

I have no earthly idea what all I’m gonna chat about, for almost 2 months, for a trip that hasn’t even happened yet! Heck even the title is tough to put to a Pre- trip report!!

That "was" totally wicked?? How do I know! It hasn’t happened yet!

Not that I anticipate a less-than-perfect trip. Hard to go wrong with free food. Just sayin’...

Soooo! Let’s get the formalities out of the way, shall we?

Hi, my name is LegoMom, and I’m writing a PTR.

[Hi LegoMom!]

Hi!...and thanks for coming! But since I’m not going solo on this trip (oh, but someday...!!), allow me to introduce the rest of my crew:

DH: aka Mr. Incredible. Partly due to the shirt he’ll be wearing, and partly because he IS! :lovestruc Lucky for me, he also loves Disney, and doesn’t need to be persuaded or convinced that it’s time for another trip.

DS11: Taking on the character of Syndrome this trip. While I did manage to get him into the same color t-shirt as the rest of us this time (!), no way he was going to look exactly like his little brothers, kwim?? Family daredevil and lover of Rockin’ Rollercoaster.

DS8: We’ll call him Dash 1. Shares his momma’s extreme love for Big Thunder Mt. Railroad! Also appreciates a good snack.

DS6: Dash 2, for clarification purposes! He and DS8 will have the same Dash characters on their shirts. ( They’re good with this. It’s still cool. ) Finally over 44" and eagerly awaiting his chance to ride Space Mountain, Expedition Everest and Mission Space....

And last but not least, there’s me: Mrs. Incredible!

You know, it’s really starting to bum me out that we’re only planning to wear these matching shirts on our one Disney Studios day.... Might have to change that!

So, about the shirts: our last trip to Disney was 2 years ago.

In September.

When it’s hooottttt.

Like in Topeka.

On that trip, we also had matching Incredibles t-shirts. Except DS11, of course. He wore a black shirt proclaiming his achievement of finally being tall enough to ride Rockin’ Rollercoaster. But we all wore the shirts proudly to what was then called MGM. Now it's just Disney Hollywood Studios (too long!) or simply, "the Studios."

Like saying, I'm going to "the mall." Or, I need to stop at "the grocery store." So nondescript. So un-Disney-fied.

Anywho!!!.....somehow, we never made it down to the Animation Courtyard. I blame the heat. By the time we got through Tower of Terror, RnR, The Great Movie Ride, Star Tours and MuppetVision 3D, we were done. Well-done and waiting for someone to mercifully remove us from the grill. Cue the resort pool.

Never saw the Incredibles.

Never had a chance to have our pictures taken with our namesakes, in those really cool, new, matching red t-shirts....

I’m on a mission now, I tell ya!

If you've managed to stick with me thus far, let me just say that I love to take pictures. That's my thing.

I have a camera and I know how to shoot! :rotfl:

So while I may bore you during the PTR with miscellaneous pictures of odd things, I can promise to regale you with actual WDW photos after we get back! Parks, food, shows, scenes, food, rides.... I love me some pictures!

Hope you'll stick around!

Actually he's a little bit of a thing! 7.5 pounds! We used to have a part-Maine Coon, too, and he weighed in at a hefty 18 lbs. Beautiful breed.

.Awww even cuter. We have a little one too, Ruby, she's just over a year so she is still growing.
I got Sulley the part Maine Coon from a random person who's cat got out and had kittens. He was the last one, just beautiful and when I took him to the vet that is what they told me. He was flabbergasted I didn't pay for him. :lmao:

I'm joining in! Your title caught my eye because that seems to be my DD's most favorite phrase of late! When something the least bit "cool" happens, she will yell out "That was totally wicked!!" Cracks me up every time!

I'm sure you will find plenty to fill up two months! It sure helps the time go by quicker!

Hello LegoMom,

As promised here I am. :surfweb:

I love your PTR, so far!! Hey that rhymes!! (I get a kick out of corny jokes!!)
My Mom (the4princesses) loves her camera too. I promise you that we have some pics of me running (haven't done that in a while, whew!) movement by movement. Well, maybe not but it seems that way! At the time she said I would be glad when I was older and had all the pics of me little (haven't been that in a while too. Ah the good ole' days!) and she was right!!! I love to look at them now!!

We are all waiting for you to post some!!!! Hey and include some with horses :woohoo: and I will be glued!!!

We are still going to Whispering Canyon Cafe. Don't forget to look for us!!! And I'll be looking for you!! :cool2:

Waiting for more!! popcorn::

....Where - is - my - Super - suit??!

If ever there was a reason to start packing early, this is it:
We might not be able to find it when we really need it!!

Well, I'm not "actually" packing yet. But I'm "mentally" packing! And I have a drawer in the spare room dresser that is dedicated to all-things-going-with-us-to-Disney, so at least I’m starting to put everything in one place.

(Here are our Super suits, all ready to go:)

http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j311/LegoMom3/Summer08128.jpg

So I’m organizing now, because when the time does arrive to dig out those suitcases, I wanna be ready to fill ‘em!

I won’t, however, be filling them with cute shoes or adorable citrus-adorned bags :rolleyes1 ....Not that there’s anything wrong with those things.

Just sayin’....

I’m just not a shoe person or a bag person or a clothes-and-accessories type of person, period! I like the basics in life. I’ll wear my Reebok trail-runners and pack my Birkenstocks and maybe the Tevas. And the only bag I’ll be bringing on this trip is the laundry bag. Last trip we (well, ok, mostly DH) schlepped a backpack around all day and that got old real quick. This trip, I’m going for the minimalist approach.

Which led me to these:

http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j311/LegoMom3/Summer08033.jpg

Which led me to the realization that I love really tiny little travel sized items!

And THEN, I discovered an entire web site where they just sell tiny little travel sized items!!
Minimus - For All Your Travel Needs (http://www.minimus.biz)

I haven’t ordered from them yet, as I’ve been able to find what I need at Target and Walmart, but oh do I want to! So, so many cute little things in little mini sizes.

Clearly, this could be a sickness....

Seriously.

Anywho!!....Some other things that are waiting patiently in the Magical drawer are my PassHolder complete with LGMHPC & DIS logo:

http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j311/LegoMom3/Summer08.jpg

And the pins that I’ve collected so far!

http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j311/LegoMom3/Summer08129.jpg

The pin-trading bug has really bitten me this time. Which, when you think about it, has no practical purpose outside of Disney World. My kids did pin-trading 2 years ago, and their pins and lanyards have hung on a hook in their room ever since we got back. But get inside Disney World with a lanyard full of pins, and suddenly you become crazy-nuts over finding someone else afflicted with the same ailment so you can trade for cooler and cooler pins! And just when you think you couldn’t possibly find anything better, you run smack into the middle of a pin-trading kiosk in Epcot where they have an entire pin-trading board!!!!

This is DS8 at said board on our last trip...
http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j311/LegoMom3/WDW2006/DisneyWorld2006214.jpg

Coolest. Pin Collection. Ever.

So don’t be fooled. "Going" to Disney World is only one little piece of the pie. Once you start packing or organizing and thinking about things you’ll need and things you want, one thing will exponentially lead to another, and before you know it you’ll be collecting all manner of "stuff" that you just have to have for this trip!

And if you do happen to be a list maker, watch out! :lmao:

The t-shirts weren't hard to do at all! I got the images from right here on the DIS - from the main page, if you scroll waaaay down, there's a forum called something like DIS Designs. You can browse threads or post a request for a certain image. Once on my computer, I just pulled them up and clicked "Print this image", chose the size "photo" I wanted, and printed them out. You can buy transfer paper at Walmart or any office supply store. Once the image is printed, you just iron it on the shirts and there you have it!

I have to agree with you on the pin trading! My kids hardly even look at their pins when we are home, but when we are there, they LOVE wearing them and trading them!

Funny how that works. But now that we've started, I don't dare send them into the parks without their pins and lanyards!! Hey, if it's fun for them while we're there, then have at it and have a blast!

Hey there LegoMom!

I'm really enjoying your PTR!!

Keep it coming. :rotfl:

Thanks for stopping by! I'm working on another installment and hoping to post it before the weekend!

So did the bag arrive?!! For the record, I think it's adorable. But it's just not something I would buy for me. I would see it, ooh and aah over it and then say "But I really wouldn't use it..." and that would be that. Sad, I know.

Personal-use items in 1/12th scale, now that's another story! :rotfl:

The bag has arrived and it's everything I thought it would be. No more, no less. Worth what I paid. Now I have to scout out some Scotch Guard that some very smart momma advised would help me keep it white! ;)

I HAVE to stay away from that site. I popped over there yesterday and as soon as I saw the mini-Tide things my brain screamed, "DANGER WILL ROBINSON!" Besides. I really don't need any of that as I think with my travel-size bottles, etc., I'm good to go. Plus I just got a $2.50 coupon off $12 AND $2.50 in Extra Care Bucks from CVS, so I can get $12 worth of stuff for about $7. I'm thinking I'm going to use it on any little things I need for the trip.

You've gotta love Live365....I've got Flame Tree BBQ area music streaming right now...

*sigh* :lovestruc

I love the AK BGM. We've never eaten at Flame Tree BBQ, but we walked by it and listening to the music puts me right there.

We want to eat there on this trip for a CS lunch. It's on my list.

Yes....

I made a list.

I guess that's what comes of being a follower of such DISers at Tinkerbellarella and Lady Lallie! ;)

But yes, folks, I have made a list! As I was putting more dog-ears on my PassPorter pages, I started to look at the maps and think in my head that there were certain things we missed last time that are must-do for this trip. These would take priority over stuff we've already done.

Disney used to have Priority Seating, I have Priority Rides. 'Cept you don't have to reserve them months in advace. A FastPass will do.

So, without further ado....(drum roll.... )

MY LIST!! :dance3:

Magic Kingdom

Only one thing here we've never done that's a must-do:

Monster's Inc. Laugh Floor

Meh:
Stitch's Great Escape
AstroOrbiters

Epcot

Must-do:
The Seas With Nemo and Friends (haven't seen it since it's latest transformation)

Innoventions East and West (including the character stop!)

Honey I Shrunk the Audience

ALL the countries in World Showcase!! (including shows by Off Kilter, the Japanese drummers, and the Fife and Drum Corp)

Meh:
The Circle of Life

Disney Studios

Must-do:
Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular
Lights, Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt Show
Toy Story Mania
Journey Into Narnia
Magic of Disney Animation
Fantasmic!

Meh:
Any live stage show

Animal Kingdom

Must-do:
Expedition Everest
Dinosaur
Finding Nemo - The Musical (per DS8's request!)
It's Tough to be a Bug
walk ALL the way around the Tree of Life....

Meh:
Kali River Rapids (the LegoMom doesn't do soaked, thank you very much)

And there you have it. And before y'all toss me all these "Oh but you have to try...!", please keep in mind that everything on The List whether good or bad is stuff we haven't ever done together as a family. I have plenty of "must-do's" for stuff we've done before (Big Thunder, Splash, Soarin', etc.) and just as much "meh" (Great Movie Ride, Festival of the Lion King...).

But that's another list entirely.

And I'm entirely too done with making lists to do another one!! :rotfl:

Although, I could possibly be persuaded to make a list of our ADRs and discuss those....:rolleyes1

ALL the countries in World Showcase!! (including shows by Off Kilter, the Japanese drummers, and the Fife and Drum Corp)

Try to catch Miyuki in Japan too if you haven't already. She's amazing!!!
Although, I could possibly be persuaded to make a list of our ADRs and discuss those....:rolleyes1

Wonderful List!! The best thing about lists is that you can make them however you want. I am the biggest List Dork because I enjoy seeing how everyone does their lists. :rolleyes1
Personally....I would LOVE to see the ADR list because it is so much fun to see what everyone has for faves.....popcorn::

Working on it today! Should have it up sometime this evening.

Oh, and tour some parks, too.

:upsidedow

Every now and then I stop and realize that I am just as excited about the eating part of this trip as I am in just plain going to Disney World, period.

Then I spend a disproportionate [<---wow, that's a long word all written out like that!] amount of time wondering what that says about me....

Who goes to Disney World this excited about food??....

People getting Free Dining, that's who!

For all you singles and couples out there, let me just enlighten you a bit: it's expensive to feed a family of five on vacation.

Very expensive.

Sell-your-firstborn expensive.

Ok, maybe not that bad. But Free Dining offers us the chance to eat at some sit-down restaurants and experience some uber-cool character experiences that we otherwise would never have due to cost.

So HECK yeah, I'm pumped about our ADRs! :woohoo:

You know, when you talk about your Disney plans at work or to other people who don't share our obsession, and you use terms like "ADR," darned if you don't get some of the funniest looks...

Back to the PTR....

I suppose, if you really want to split hairs over it, this could be construed as a List. But in my mind, it's just a conversation that happens to look like a list!

Because the LegoMom isn't about lists, remember.

OK! Here's where we are eating and why I can't wait for them:

Whispering Canyon Cafe (dinner) -
We had an ADR here on our last trip, but it was for our 2nd-to-last day. It was doomed from the start. We were too tired to schlepp over to WL, and thus my anticipation of stick-horse races and embarrassing my kids by asking for ketchup were whisked away on the wings of a fuss.

NOT this time! This is the 1st day ADR, people!! I have also seen what can happen if you ask for water, which I intend to do as well...:rolleyes1

Sci-Fi Dine In Theater (lunch - no worries!) -
Ok, another lost ADR from the previous trip.

On Day 2!!!

I have read many awful reviews on this place but know what?....don't care! The place just looks too dang FUN to pass up. Especially with three boys in our party (well, 3 boys IS a party, but I digress...). Who wouldn't love sitting in a "classic car" and pretending you're at the drive-in movies?!!

Too. Cool.

And on the advice of so many DISers, we are taking lunch there, which is supposed to be better than dinner.

Crystal Palace (breakfast) -
This promises to be one of the best ADRs we have.

Because we get to enter the MK before it even opens!!!!!!!!

What more can you say?!

Hoop-de-Doo Revue (dinner.... Duh!) -
DH and I saw this show waaay back in '96, when it was just me and DH. (Actually, we were expecting DS11 on that trip! :lovestruc) So, since we are going for 8 nights this time, we decided to use up 2 dining credits so we can see it again and take the boys. I think they'll enjoy it. We have Category 2 seating and I'm hoping to be up in the balcony rather than the back of the main floor. DS6 is just a little bit of a thing so maybe I'll request an upper table "so he can see everything that's going on!", with my biggest sad puppy eyes... Or, I'll have HIM give the sad puppy eyes!:rotfl:
Anyway I love me some good old-fashioned down-home cookin' served on a tin plate, so I'm all about this place!

Pass the cornbread and ribs, please.

Boma (dinner) -
Can you say "Zebra Domes" ?!

Nuff said.

No, seriously, we thought we'd try something different for a change and ending our AK day with dinner at AKL seemed like the ticket. Then I got a glimpse of their menu.

Meat, meat, and more meat. Fire-roasted... Yum - O!

And Zebra Domes.

Chip & Dale's Harvest Feast @ Garden Grill (dinner) -
We were looking for someplace fun in Epcot to eat for this day.

Enter a character meal, in a rotating restaurant, that overlooks Living with the Land scenes.

With Chip & Dale...!!

The menu looks "ok," but it's more about having a nice break from touring and the fun of some characters. But still, I'm looking forward to it.

Chef Mickey's (dinner) -
Our last ADR.... *sigh* :sad2:

We ate breakfast here on the last trip, and since the dessert bar looked sooo good, we wanted to do dinner this time.

I not only plan my trips around my meals, but I also plan some meals around what they offer for dessert. Go figure.

And it's also just a super fun place to spend your last evening in the World.

I love your dining plans! We get all excited about dining too! We too are trying Whispering Canyon for the first time despite numerous reservations there. I can't wait - I won't even read dining reviews about it - I don't want to spoil the fun! And Wilderness Lodge is our favourite resort.
If you like camp, you'll really like the Sci-Fi diner. Come on, it's burgers, milkshakes and fries. Pretty hard to mess that up. This restaurant is totally about the fun - your boys will love it!

I've always enjoyed this place and never understood why it was much maligned by DISers. The food is pretty decent and the atmosphere is great. I've also always had excellent service. Then again, I have only been for lunch. Hope you enjoy!!!

I just love me some free food.

Free TS rocks, but free CS ain't nothin' to sneeze at, either!

Which would just be gross....:crazy2: And then who'd want to eat THAT?!

Anywho, when you are paying OOP for your food, if you are on a budget, you tend to look for the most economical restaurants from which to feed your brood. I mean, we could argue that counter-service is counter-service and there's not much difference in prices, but this is a PTR....

NOarguinginmyPTR.

I will just say that not all CS eateries are created equal.

One of the CS places that is on my non-list is Flame Tree BBQ in AK. And despite the menu offerings being much to our liking, a main reason for wanting to eat here is because of the background music they play in the area. Blame it on Live365.

I am also really looking forward to eating at the Riverside Mill food court at POR.

The food court?!?!

Yes, the food court. Pick your jaw up off the floor, you'll catch mice that way.

Just like POR isn't "just a resort" to us, neither is Riverside Mill "just a food court." It's part of Port Orleans and we love it. It has great atmosphere and some darn good eats to boot.

And, I have fond memories of our last trip, when Dash 1 (DS8) said during dinner there one night, "Mom, for some reason, I'm having fun at the resort." It was simply one of those moments when you're just really feelin' good about life, and being on vacation, all is right with the world. Well, your world, anyway.

Riverside Mill is also where I begin each Disney day.

With my coffee walk...

Miraculously, at Disney I can hop out of bed at 6:00am, well-rested and ready for a new day, bright-eyed and bushy-tailed and all that stuff (what is that a reference to, anyway??!). So, having laid out my clothes the night before, I dress, put on my face, grab my All-Powerful & All-Magical KTTW card, and stroll on over to the food court to fill our mugs with coffee.

And you know what?....when you're waaaaay in the back in Building 34, it's quite a hike!! :rotfl:

But I loved those early-morning walks. Most of the time the sun was just coming up. The air was coolish but muggy and you could feel the summer day coming. Sometimes I'd walk the long way around, following the river past the Mansions buildings, and wishing with all my heart that I could live in the South...

*sigh...* :cloud9:

So, where were we?

Food!

How about some specific food items that are my [non-] list:

*A smoked turkey leg These will forever remind of that TV ad last fall, with the little boy who's talking about the food he had and he's really rambling on... "Green beans, mashed patadas, two turka legs and a piece o' pumpkin pie!" So, when DH and I refer to these, they are "turka legs."

*Frozen lemonade So simple but ooooh-so-good. Really hits the spot on a hot Florida afternoon.

*Cheese fries from Casey's So bad for you but ooooh-so-good. Just an order of fries from the counter, then liberally covered with the cheese sauce located next to the ketchup. Probably death-on-a-plate.

*Dole Whip This one surprises me, because they've never really appealed to me, but I hear so much about them here on the DIS that I'm gonna give it the ol' college try. Whatever that means.

*Churro Something else that gets rave reviews around here. But I'm all about Mexican food so I'm good with it.

*Fudge from the Main Street Confectionary No further explanation needed.

*The Milky Way an adult concoction served up at the Sci-Fi Dine In. A chocolate shake blended with peppermint Schnapps.... Heaven in a glass!

Wow, now I'm hungry...

Whispering canyon is great, have one of the kids ask for ketchup! :cool1: I wasn't impressed with garden grill, the food was good, but still not impressed. If you want to enjoy a great buffet, and you like seafood, then the Beach Club resort, Cape May, is awesome! Steamed clams and mussels, peel and eat shrimp, fried fish, prime rib, roast chicken, roast turkey, Italian sausage with peppers and onions, fall off the bone bbq ribs and great desserts and fresh fruit and soup plus salad fixings. Also mac and cheese and other assortment of veggies and chicken tenders, for the picky eaters. Are you hungry yet! I just ate there last week and it is great. Ate at garden grill a few weeks ago, as I said, I'm not a big fan of the "family" style meals.

Ok, gonna make the shirt, wear it on AK day, and get to wear it to Boma that evening! I'll have my picture taken in front of the AK entrance sign, at Boma with all my fire-roasted meats, and anywhere else I find to show it off.

Cuz y'know, Free Dining really IS the

I had the day off from work today. It was pouring rain.

Again...

So, I spent a disproportionate (there's that word again...!) amount of time DISing, and didn't feel the least bit guilty! :surfweb: And somewhere between the 3rd cup of coffee and the 20th trip to the bathroom, it suddenly hit me...

There is an evening EMH at the MK on our Sunday. And we're scheduled to be at Epcot!!

Now, I think when I made our original plans, I steered clear of evening EMHs due to our last experience with one at Epcot. The busses were mobbed, which caused us to nearly miss our ADR at Biergarten in Germany (fully a mile from the bus stop....at least...), and then the few attractions open were not doing FastPass (or they were out of them) and the lines were loooong. Grandma could have knit a full shawl while waiting in those lines.

But, the Magic Kingdom at night is special. Extra magical, even. And I started to think, why don't we switch our plans on Sunday and do MK instead of Epcot! Easy enough, right? Sure.

But it means I have to change an ADR...!:scared:

What???....woman are you CRAZY?!

Well yes, but that's beside the point here.... What I am attempting to do is secure a new ADR. For our trip that happens next month.

So, I've e-mailed my magical agent from Dreams Unlimited and am awaiting the verdict. She's a doll, and I'm sure she'll come through with something, but it's a big mystery at this point!

What we had for that day was dinner at the Garden Grill in The Land. Obviously if we won't be at Epcot, we can't eat there.

NOparkhopping

My first choice of a new ADR is Kona at the Poly. Any meal. I don't care!! (but if we get lunch or dinner you can bet I'm gettin' me a Lapu-Lapu!! ). If that doesn't fly, I've requested an early dinner at Boatwright's. We'll end up taking a swim break that afternoon anyway, so we'd be right there, and could eat before heading back for the Magical Evening of Fun. We ate at Boatwright's last trip and had a really, really great meal.

Oh my goodness, what would you like to know?! We LOVE that resort... Yes, we stayed there last time, because we "had" to. On our very first trip as a family, DS6 wasn't 3 yet so we got to stay at ASMovies. Loved it, lots of fun, but now that he's over 3, that doesn't work unless we get two rooms or a suite ($$$$!). So, POR being the only non-deluxe (read: affordable!) resort that can accomodate 5 people in some rooms, that is where we opted to book. We fell in love with it and now return eagerly!

You know, I could ramble for pages on this place, but I have a better idea:

We've only been there in September, never peak season, so I'm only basing this on that experience. But we didn't have problems with the buses. The one and only time we had a wait was trying to get to Epcot on an evening EMH night. Seems everyone else had the same idea and four buses went by before there was one with any room on it!! Other than that, no. No problems. There are a lot of bus stops but that's just because Riverside is so spread out. At park closing time, they usually split the runs up between Riverside and FQ for the trip back (as opposed to just one bus for both sections in the middle of the day, when traffic is much lighter). I think the folks who complain about it either went during a very busy time and/or they just don't like having to "wait" at all!

Since the focus here thus far has largely been food, I thought I'd mix it up a bit and toss in some touring plans. Who doesn't like talking about the parks and all their wonder!?

I'm a person who always likes to leave room for a change of plans, but you've gotta have some sense of planning to make the most of your Disney vacation!

Our plans look a little something like this:

Day 1 - Arrival Day!

Our plane lands at 2:00pm, so I would expect to be checking into POR by 4:00. I also expect our room to be ready, so after getting settled and a quick change, it's off to Ol' Man Island and some swimming! Well, the guys will all swim... I plan to pull up a chair and just sit and soak up the Florida sunshine and Disney atmostphere. When dinner calls, we'll do a CS at the Riverside Mill food court, and turn in before it gets too late so we're ready for our first full day!

Day 2 - Epcot

It's EMH this morning at Epcot, and I'd like to be there for opening. Not an impossible task, just requires some diligence in setting the alarm and getting out to catch a bus by 7:15am. I've never seen an Epcot opening, so I'm looking forward to it! And, if my family sleeps in like last time, I will head out without them and let them catch up later!! The very first thing I want to do is see the "new" Spaceship Earth. I'm afraid, because I loved its last incarnation, but at the same time I can't just stop riding it! Then I think we'll catch the headliners next - Soarin', Test Track, and Mission Space for whoever wants to do that (not the LegoMom....nuh-uh, no way). Then we'll head for the countries at 11:00. I want to go all the way around this time, not just see Cananda and Mexico....:rolleyes1 If we can start that at 11:00, we should make it, since our dinner is at 5:45 at the WL.

Oh carp....when I think about that now, I realize how much time it's really gonna take to get from Mexico (last country) to the bus stop (nearly a mile, at least!) and then on over to WL....

Well, we should still have time for most of the countries. And whatever we miss can be hit on our 2nd Epcot day.

Dinner at Whispering Canyon Cafe, and then we will probably call it a day and head back to POR for a swim before bed.

Day 3 - Disney Hollywood Studios

Regular day here. No EMH, no tight schedule. Should be a fun day. I, for one, am heading straight to Mickey Avenue and the Animation Courtyard! I'm not spending the majority of my day just waiting around for other people to ride thrill rides that make my lips numb jus tinkin 'bout dem! :scared1:

NOtowerofterror
NOrocknrollercoaster
NOstartours

One thing I love about the Studios is the Streetmosphere performers! Last trip we were there for opening and they were everywhere. The crowds were low and it was so much fun! Here a pic of a guy that really interacted with us:

http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j311/LegoMom3/WDW2006/DisneyWorld2006092.jpg

Loved him!!

I suspect this day we'll head back for a swim, too. We have lunch at Sci-Fi at 1:30 or something like that, and if we've arrived at opening and want to see Fantasmic at night, we'll need the break (well, the kids will... ). Last trip we only saw Illuminations of all the nighttime shows, so this time Fantasmic and Wishes are at the top of the list!

Day 4 - Magic Kingdom!

This promises to be a very magical day indeed. It's morning EMH at the park, and we have an 8:00 ADR for Crystal Palace....

Getting in early baby!!!!

I cannot wait to walk down Main Stree with virtually no one else around.... I've heard sometimes there are Photopass photographers there to take your picture in front of the castle, but even if not, then I'll take one of the guys, and then DH can take one of me and the boys.

No real plan for the rest of the day here. It is our one chance to see SpectroMagic, so I'll have to factor that in to the plans. Since we have no dinner ADR to worry about, I suspect again we'll go back for a break after lunch, then come back around dinnertime.

Just can't go wrong with the Magic Kingdom!

Day 5 - Day off

The only thing currently on the schedule for today is dinner at the Hoop-Dee-Doo Revue! I'm looking forward to a more relaxed day. We might rent a boat, or head over to Fort Wilderness early and rent bikes, or maybe both!

Day 6 - Animal Kingdom

I'm really looking forward to this day! We have a ton of must-dos, but all day to accomplish them and no real schedule otherwise. DS6 really likes the Oasis trails, so we'll stroll through there. Afterwards, though, I think we'll make a bee-line to Everest and at least secure some FastPasses!

And I need to walk all the way around the Tree of Life...!

And have lunch at Flame Tree BBQ....:cloud9:

So I can listen to the background music, don'tcha know....

Dinner ADR at Boma that night, after AK closes, so we'll have time to see the Animal Kingdom Lodge while we're over there.

Day 7 - Magic Kingdom!!

Day 2 for MK and it's evening EMH! This is a new development and we are uber-excited for it. MK is sooo cool at night. We have a newly-secured ADR for breakfast at Kona Cafe at 10:00am, so we'll start the day there and then head over to the park. We'll have to take a swim break this day, since it's going to be a long day for the kids! No Spectro, but there's Wishes at 8:00 so we'll definitely catch that. Then time for some nighttime magical fun - woo hoo!!
AND!!!!.....I may get to meet TarzansKat!!!!!!!!

Day 8 - Epcot

Last full day.....*sigh* If the first day here went as planned, we'll spend today in Future World. I've got some characters to meet in Innoventions West, the Seas with Nemo and Friends to explore, and Soarin' and Test Track to ride as many times as is possible! Dinner ADR for Chef Mickey's tonight, so a quick trip on the monorail will put us there in no time. Depending on what time we finish with that - and how everyone is holding up - we may try to catch Illuminations. But, again, since we saw that last time, it's at the bottom of the priority list and if we see it then fine, but if not then oh well.

Wow, suddenly I'm REALLY excited about our trip.....! 31 days and counting!! :woohoo:

Dude. We WILL. One ADR ain't gonna hold me back from a late night at MK, AND a chance to meet another Lapuette!

Way kewl.

.

:thumbsup2

May?

May get to meet TarzansKat?

I'm hoping it's pretty likely!:goodvibes Although my dear, you have been forewarned. This is our arrival day. Much like Stitch says, "This is my family. It may be little and broken, but it's still good...yeah, still good."

So other than the fact that we'll have been up since about 3am to get ready in time for our 700am flight, and that I don't know if our room will be ready when we get to WL, and I have no idea what time we'll make it to the Magic Kingdom, the force is strong with me, my friend. :yoda: ::yes::

I think we can make it work!:thumbsup2

By the by, LOVE the plans. Sounds like you've got a great combination of planning and relaxation, my favorite kind of vacation. And I'm totally jealous of your future all alone in front of the castle pics. So rare, and so neat!

WILL meet TarzansKat! :cool1:

When the time gets closer we'll have to see if we can come up with a tentative meet. As long as we're actually in the park (i.e. not off for our afternoon break/swim) I'll pretty much leave it up to you since you'll be the ones running on borrowed time!! :rotfl:

Just caught up with the goings-on and it's been great! We will be at the world from 9/5 until 9/12 and staying at CSR. We will certainly be sporting our LGMH's, so feel free to yell loudly if you see us! I would love to meet some DIS'ers on this trip!

Streetmosphere performers are so fun! They are usually just out and about, either riding in some old-fashioned car or sitting on a bench or even walking down the street with everyone! They are dressed like "old Hollywood" so pretty easy to spot. Worth a watch/listen.

There are so many rave reviews here about Tonga Toast, but I dunno...just not my thing! I have a consistency issue with bananas. But in looking at their menu, there are plenty of yum-o things that DO appeal to me!!

Hi and welcome aboard! :wave2: Glad you're enjoying the trip so far. I was worried about having stuff to write about before the trip, and lately I'm starting to worry that I'm boring people! :scared: But I guess our love of All Things Disney keeps us going, writer and reader alike.

I will definitely be keeping my eyes open for LGMHs! I have one, too, that will be prominently on display in my PassHolder pouch around my neck. I only saw one on my entire last trip (and didn't have the chance to approach the person) so I'm really hoping this one will be different!

Oh, and same goes for you - if you see a LGMH with "LegoMom3" on it, YELL! :rotfl:

I'm wondering if anyone else suffers from this.

Now that we are under that magical one-month mark, I can feel the little mini panic starting to try to creep in. I wish Tinkerbellarella were here, because she would know just what to say to that little voice in my head.

It's the voice that starts to make you wonder, that despite the months and months of planning, and the going-over of details with a fine-toothed comb, that somehow, you're forgetting something.

Like all those really cool tips that you learn here on the DIS? And you read one and think "Oh, cool!....great idea!" and you should write it down but you don't right then, figuring you have plenty of time.

But then suddenly you don't....

And you're sure that you won't....

*ahem* I feel a Seuss moment coming on:

********************************
Congratulations!
Today is your day.
You're off to Walt Disney World!
You're off and away!

You have ADRs set.
You have touring plans made.
You have planned on the DIS
and you're not afraid!

You'll look up resorts.
Look 'em over with care.
About some you will say,
"I don't choose to stay there."
With your head full of brains
and your shoes full of feet,
you're too smart to stay on a not-perfect street.

OH! The places you'll go!

You'll be on your way up!
You'll be seeing great sights!
You'll join the high fliers
on Soarin's high heights!

You won't lag behind, because you'll have FastPass.
You'll pass the whole line to the head of the class.
Wherever you go, you'll be best of the best.
Wherever you go, you will pass all the rest.

Except when you don't.
Because, sometimes, you won't.

I'm sorry to say so
but, sadly, it's true
that you will forget something,
it can happen to you.

You will come to a place that you did not expect.
How quickly your touring plans crash in a wreck!
Do you dare to stay out? Do you dare to go in?
How much time will you lose? How much fun can you win?

And IF you go in, should you turn left or right....
Are the seats better here? Or, maybe, not quite?
Or go to the back for a view from behind?
Simple it's not, I'm afraid you will find,
for a mind-maker-upper to make up her mind.

You can get so confused...
"But I planned with the DIS!...
How could I have missed such a
thing such as this!"

But somehow you'll get through
all that waiting and straying
from touring plans carefully
planned for your playing.

With maps a-flip-flapping,
once more you'll ride high!
Ready for Star Tours
or the Great Movie Ride!

Oh, the places you'll go! There is fun to be done!
There are points to be scored on Buzz Lightyear's great run.
And the magical things you can see in that Ball
will make Illuminations most magical of all.
You'll be having the most funnest of fun....

Except when you don't.
Because, sometimes, you won't.

I'm afraid that some times,
you'll ride scary rides too.
Rides you don't like
'cause they're too much for you.

Dark!
Whether you like it or not,
In the dark is something
you'll be quite a lot.

And when you're in the dark, there's a very good chance
you'll meet things that scare you right out of your pants.
There are some, between Frontierland and That Song,
that can scare you so much you won't want to go on.

But on you will go
because it's on your plan!
On you will go
though you'd rather have ran.
On you will go past the disappearing man....
Onward through many a frightening hall,
though you may close your eyes at the sight of Her ball.

Your trip will get mixed up, of course,
as you already know.
You'll get mixed up
by forgetting things before you go.
So be sure when you plan.
Plan with care and great tact
and remember to write it ALL down,
every act.

And will you succeed?
Yes! You will, indeed!
(98 and 3/4 percent guaranteed.)

Kid, you'll ride Mountains!

I know what you mean, I feel the same and I look at it this way:

There will always be things you will miss or forget but you'll never be able to make the exact same memories again. Disney will always be there. The things that get missed or forgotten are just fodder for the next trip.

And now, for the whole Seussification episode, I must say, the Doc would be proud. That was fantastic.

And all caught up.
And ready for more.

Three weeks from right now, I'll be lounging by the pool on Ol' Man Island at Port Orleans Riverside....

Three weeks from right now!!

I'm trying to enjoy the anticipation of these last three weeks. Of course I'm excited about the trip getting here, but there's just nothin' quite like the build-up of excitement after all the planning and waiting.

I've been going through my PassPorter and making sure I have everything we will want/need on the Master Packing List. (hey Lal!....a list! ). I've brought the suitcases down from storage and dusted them off. I'm listing out (listing!!) what we'll be packing to see if I can indeed get it all in two suitcases (not including the carry-on).

Planning to do laundry half-way through the trip is really helping that cause, by the way... :laundy:

Today I packed a mini-M&M's tube with quarters and shiny pennies for pressed penny machines!

Also today, DS11 and I sat on the deck and talked all about the different park fireworks and parades, and how he wants to see all of them this time. We talked about how many countries are in World Showcase at Epcot, and how he also wants to really see all of those.

And just now, DS6 brought out the measuring board and had me make a new mark. 44-1/2 inches in sock feet!! :woohoo: Expedition Everest, here we come!

Over the weekend, I made two more t-shirts. One for DH and one for myself. Now, I know I was going to make one with that little hamster and the "Happiest Nom Ever" for Free Dining on it, but I decided against it. A) It won't make much sense outside of the World after the fact, and B) I didn't feel like explaining the term "nom" to all the non-icanhascheezburger folk who would inevitably see the shirt and wonder.

Not that they'd ask, but they'd wonder...

I did make DH the Mater shirt he wanted! Here is a pic of my shirt, and his from the front:

Mine is an Animal Kingdom motif. The "mom" is zebra stripes, and Mickey and Minnie are dressed in safari garb. It's cute.

Dash 1 and Dash 2 both have Hawaiian-type shirts that they want to pack for the trip. They never wear them around here, but they'll wear them at Disney World and they'll wear them together on the same day! Too cute.

*Note to self: take pic of boys in said shirts to post for friends on the DIS!*

I plan to make a count-down calendar on a posterboard tonight.

After all, when you're uber-psyched for an upcoming trip to Disney, what better way to put that in overdrive than by plastering the remaining days front-and-center to be "X"ed out each morning?!!

R.I.P. Nom shirt. You will be missed.

Planning to do laundry half-way through the trip is really helping that cause, by the way... :laundy:

Today I packed a mini-M&M's tube with quarters and shiny pennies for pressed penny machines!

Over the weekend, I made two more t-shirts. One for DH and one for myself. http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j311/LegoMom3/Summer08104.jpg

I am just all kinds of excited today....

Can I just say that the anticipation of an upcoming trip is SO cool.
(<--------I am editing this to add that I am also all kinds of excited over my new scrolling tag!!!) :goodvibes
Kewl, even!

I am totally savoring the excitement of these last few weeks. I'll be starting the actual packing any day now. The Drawer is getting full! Time to transfer all that stuff to its traveling compartment.

Today I filled in and printed out our Vacation at a Glance worksheet. I'll leave copies of these with family.

So my MIL can call me while I'm riding the WEDWay, or enjoying Wishes!, or just taking a cruise on the monorail! No, actually, I should be the one to call her....since she's done that to me in the past....:rolleyes1

Nothing like calling the person-left-at-home from one of her favorite rides in all the World!! :lmao:

And we have yet another change of plans and ADR to report!!!

So I mentioned in a previous post how we decided to do MK on the Sunday, to take advantage of the evening EMH. Got our ADR that day switched to Kona Cafe for a late breakfast. Good to go.

Then, I started thinking again.

"Not good!"....to quote a famous pirate.

It went something like this:

*Since we are doing MK on Sunday, we'll be in Epcot on Monday.
*It's our last full day.
*And since it's Epcot, and because we'll be out late at MK the night before, we can sleep in and arrive there around noon and still have a full day.
*Hmm....I'm bettin' we'll all be pretty tired at this point.
*Do we want to have to trek over to the Contemporary to Chef Mickey's for dinner??
*I'm guessing that's a big NO!

So, one more e-mail off to Shirley at Dreams Unlimited (the woman's a saint - she's got to be!!) and voila!....we now have:

Dinner at Biergarten!!

I'm ALL kinds of excited over that. The food is "ok" but we love the show! When I asked the boys if they enjoyed eating there the last time, the answer was a resounding and unanimous "Yes!!" So, when I told them we would be eating there again this trip, they were all kinds of excited! DH's family is German on his mom's side, so this place is always a hit with him.

As is the full pint of ale, but I digress...

Tiki tiki tiki tiki - oi oi oi!

**Disclaimer: the use of the word 'babnana' is correct and not a typo**A banana is something you eat....a 'babnana' is this fellow here and all similar incarnations therein**

Join me, won't you, in a Happy Babnana 10-Day Dance?

Now, it would seem to make sense that I would have 10 dancing babnanas up there, this being the 10-day mark and all. But, if I start with 10 babnanas, and count down, then there will only be one little lonely babnana on the day before we leave.

Unthinkable.

So, if I start with one babnana, and count up, then there will be TEN happy dancing babnanas on the day before we leave, which, emotionally, is far more in tune with how I'll be feeling!! :rotfl:

I was SO hoping to have my final intinerary from Dreams Unlimited ready today. Shirley told me she finalized them at the 10-day mark. Which is today.

Alas, no Final Itinerary.... :sad2:

But, so as not to end an intstallment on a low note, I am going to follow the lead of Lady Lallie et al and LIST our plans for our trip!

Day 1 - Arrival Day

*Up at 6:00am, finish last-minute packing.
*Kids up by 7:00am; get dressed, eat breakfast.
*Head for the airport at 8:00am!
*Arrive Orlando at 2:00pm. Magical Express to Port Orleans Riverside...
*Be checking in by 4:00pm; room ready!
*Take a vote: either a) skip the parks today and just relax at the pool; have dinner at the food court, or b) head to the Studios which is having EMH this evening; eat at the park.

for your ten day dance! ;)

How exciting!

I have a cute little story to share with you and I hope you don't mind.

Tonight, DS wanted to watch a movie. I told him to watch The Incredibles. Ever since LL was discussing it last night, I've got it on the brain. He tried to protest (we all know the power of repetition and aversion to anything new that plagues the three year old psyche) but I insisted.

Well, of course he loved it.

And at the end, perfectly imitated the little boy...

"THAT WAS TOTALLY WICKED!!!!"

And I thought of you. And asked DS, "Did you like The Incredibles?"

"Yeah!"

"That was totally wicked?"

"THAT WAS TOTALLY WICKED!!!" with arms in the air and everything. :goodvibes

9 da-ays! :woohoo: 9 da-ays! :woohoo:

I should have had my Final Itinerary done by today. I came home excitedly from work, hopping right on the computer....and still no FI. :headache:

Shirley don't let me down now!!

*ahem*

And as I prepare to present the next day's plan - in full List form - I am slightly sad that LL won't (in all likelihood) see it for quite some time....if ever....:sad2:

But that's cuz she's leaving tomorrow!!!!!!! :worship:

So, I dedicate today's installment to my friend Lady Lallie: Queen of All Things List!

Day 2 - Epcot

*Wake up at 6:00am (cuz I know I will....there's just too much Disney magic in the air for the LegoMom to "sleep in" while there!). My first coffee walk of the trip is beckoning....:goodvibes Walk the POR grounds to the food court and fill up the refillable mugs with coffee, grab juice/milk for the kiddos.
* Everyone else up by 7:00am (IF we don't do the Studios the night before; otherwise everyone up by 8:30am).
* If up early, catch a bus for Epcot around 7:30 for morning EMH at 8:00! (eat at park)
* If not up early, catch a bus for Epcot around 9:30 (eat at food court)
* Assuming early-entry from this point on*
* Ride the "new" Spaceship Earth.
* Get Fastpass for Soarin'; ride Soarin'
* Ride Test Track
* Mission Space for whoever wants to ride (certainly not me....! :scared: )
* Ride Soarin' again
* Spend time in Innoventions or other Future World attractions until World Showcase opens at 11:00am
* Start the tour of the countries, with Canada
* Tour as many countries as time allows before dinner
* Leave Epcot by 4:30; head for Wilderness Lodge
* 5:45pm dinner at Whispering Canyon Cafe!
* Take a swim at Ol' Man Island before bed

:cloud9: :cloud9: :cloud9: :cloud9: :cloud9: :cloud9: :cloud9: :cloud9: :cloud9: ( <-- hee hee!...9 days, 9 cloud-9's!)

Yes, I missed the 8-day dance. Here.

But I was dancing!

Fact of the matter is, I was just too busy yesterday to get time to update this little PTR.

I've also been watching the hurricane forecasts. I'm still hopeful....

ANYWHO!....Here are today's babnanas:

7 days to go!!! Woo hoo! :woohoo:

And, a couple of days of intinerary to catch up on! I did finally get my Final Itinerary from Dreams Unlimited, too! It's all printed out and clipped together, ready for quick reference when we get there.

Day 3 - Disney Hollywood Studios

This park presents me with a quandary. When we get to the Studios, I like to linger and take my time on Hollywood Blvd. There are usually some Streetmosphere Performers out and about early, and it's fun to see them and, when possible, interact with them.

But Toy Story Mania threw a monkey wrench into that plan....:headache:

NOscarymonkeys

Everyone now says you have to hoof it straight to Pixar Place to grab a Fastpass for TSM or risk either long lines or not riding it at all. Hmm....

Is it sacrilege to say, simply, "Oh well!" ?? :confused3

I don't want to enter the park and make a bee-line - with the hordes of everyone else with the same idea - to a ride to get a Fastpass that may in all likelihood not even allow us to ride until several hours later!! IF DH is up to it, I may send him ahead with all the tix to get these worth-their-weight-in-gold FP's and then come find us again on Hollywood Blvd. No, we won't be able to score the coveted 2-for-1 by securing FP's and then immediately riding, but again, Oh well.

I guess I just hate entering a park and then running full-tilt to get somewhere within.

And I can't say with any certainty at all exactly how our day here will go, but here's a taste of what we have planned:

*Wake up regular time, catch a bus by 8:30 for DHS opening at 9:00.
*Send DH for TSM FP's
*Stroll down Hollywood Blvd. and watch for Streetmosphere! Hopefully the guy in the little red truck is out and about.
*Begin a roughly clock-wise tour of the park (we did all the headliners last time, so it's Mom's first pick this time around!)
*See Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular
*Watch for characters near Al's Toy Barn
*See MuppetVision 3D
*Ride Toy Story Mania (assuming FP time has arrived)

Happy 7 days!!! :dance3:

But Toy Story Mania threw a monkey wrench into that plan....:headache:

It totally has, hasn't it?? I am in the same boat. I forget whose thread I was reading but the morning rush for FP's sounded like the running of the bulls in Pamplona. Whoever it was picked up their child for safety! :sad2: That does not sound like good times to me! That and I absolutely refuse to set an alarm on vacation. So I am right there with you as someone who may simply say "oh well."

The rest of your itinerary sounds fabulous. Am especially jealous of the pix in front of the castle with virtually no one else around! Can't wait to see those!!

08-31-2008, 09:56 PM
Well, I have to say that if you want to ride TSM at all, you (or your dh) is going to have to "run with the bulls".

We were just there last Wednesday, and the mad rush to get there was CRAZY!! We started to have all of us wait in line for the FP, but the lines were way too long. Me and kids went ahead in line to ride the ride, and dh stood in line for FP. The machines kept breaking down, and people were getting downright ugly he said! We ended up waiting about 20 minutes to ride it the first time, and I believe our FP return time was around 11:15. When we got there at 11:30 to us our FP, all of the FPs for the day were already gone! The ride is so fun, definitely not one to miss! So, if your dh is up for it, you might want to send him on over to secure them for you. The way you have your day planned out, even if your return time isn't until much later, it shouldn't really hamper your day at all because you aren't riding any of the big FP needed rides until the evening!

I would suggest you be on a bus before 8:30 though. We were there in line at 8:25, and the lines were already pretty long. By 9:00 when they started letting people in, they were huge!!

(<--------I am editing this to add that I am also all kinds of excited over my new scrolling tag!!!)

I'm officially green with envy.

I know you're all kinds of busy with packing but we miss you on the 328 threads that we all share! :rotfl: Come by when you can.

328. No kidding. I near cried when I took stock of just how far behind I am. ::sigh::

b) head to the Studios which is having EMH this evening; eat at the park.

I won't lie. The first time I read this I thought it said "eat the park".
Which might be just as fun.
To be truthful.

:goodvibes

I'm kidnapping him, FYI. No ransom.

My first coffee walk of the trip is beckoning....

No offense, you know I love hearing about your trip, but whenever I see "coffee walk" I think of ZZUB and wonder if he headed to the World this year.

I've also been watching the hurricane forecasts. I'm still hopeful....

I'm about to offer up my firstborn to the weather gods.
Kidding.

And on with the schedules:

Day 5 - Day Off

This is currently our scheduled day off. I say "currently" because I am taking a new approach to the scheduling of this trip.

Thank you Hannah, Ike, and Josephine.....:headache:

I'm not all panicky. Not like some of the threads I've been reading lately!! Good grief, people, it's Florida in September - you run the risk of a storm! As long as my flights aren't messed with, I'm good. Of course no one wants a hurricane to effect their long-awaited, long-planned Disney trip, but the storms usually come and go within a day and Disney does a heck of a job cleaning up.

At any rate, I am now viewing things just a little differently. A bit more flexible, you might say. For example, if needed due to weather, we could tour Animal Kingdom on Friday (currently the day off) instead of Saturday, and make Saturday the day off. Neither day has a meal within a park, so that right there gives us the choice.

I am also going to plan to spend at least some time at the Hollywood Studios on our arrival day. Right now the weather next Monday looks pretty good, so I say let's grab that chance by the reins and run with it!

So! Our Day Off will be open to our whims. There is no "plan" per se, so it's hard to list it out (oh but how sad LL would be...:sad2: ). We have the Hoop-Dee-Doo this evening, and I'd like to get to Fort Wilderness early enough to tour the horse barn and let DS6 have a pony ride. During the day we might rent a boat at POR! We will probably also play mini golf at Winter Summerland (I must play the course that looks like Christmas in the South....!)

This day will be much better written about after-the-fact.....

On to Day 6.....

Day 6 - Animal Kingdom

Sticking with our itinerary as it now stands, this is AK day. The one and only.....

NOparkhopping

*Usual wake-up schedule
*Arrive at AK for opening
*Enjoy birds and animals on the Oasis Trails
*Walk all the way around the Tree of Life; take many photographs
*Head for Asia; ride Expedition Everest
*Ride Kali if the line isn't too long
*Head to DinoLand and ride Dinosaur
*Lunch at Flame Tree BBQ!! :lovestruc
*See the Nemo stage show
*Do the Maharajah Jungle Trek
*See "It's Tough to Be a Bug"
*Possibly do the train to Rafiki's Planet Watch
*See characters in Camp Minnie Mickey
*Watch Mickey's Jammin' Jungle Parade
*6:30 dinner at Boma!
*End the day with a swim at POR

I will say I think it is heresy to not do the mad dash to TSM. But I tend to be a bit obsessed with that ride and trying to beat my DH's score.

I think it's great you built some flexibility into your plan. As you've seen from my recent posts about the weather down here, it's hard to predict what it will do.

I am REALLY really tired tonight. Combination of having stayed up too late last night watching my DVR'd episode of "Ghost Hunters" and having a beer a little ago while sitting on the deck.

I'm wiped.

Dude.

I am also sitting here at my desk now, at 7:20pm, and remembering how they can show SpectroMagic at 8:00pm while we're there next week...

Yep, it's already starting to get dark. Rats.

Summer! Summer! My kingdom for summer!

I'm getting down to the wire now. There's not much left to say, except that when you are down to 3 days, you simply must have a 3-day dance!!!

Day 7 and Day 8 are too open-ended to justify listing out the plan. There is no plan! We have a late breakfast at Kona Cafe on Sunday, then heading to the MK to just enjoy the day, meet up with TarzansKat (!!!!!) for a short time, and then do the evening EMH.

Monday we are heading back to Epcot (whenever we finally get up.... ) and ditto there. We'll see what we want, what we missed previously, and have dinner at Biergarten. I'd like to see Illuminations, esp. if we miss it on the first Epcot day.

So, here in the Incredibles household, things are getting pretty dang silly! The boys are sure that time has slowed waaaaayy down and these last few days are the space/time-continuum equivalent of about, oh, I dunno...2 or 3 light years! :rotfl:

Today DH went to the bank and got the $5's for Mousekeeping. So this afternoon I filled up the neat little Mousekeeping "Thank You" envelopes, and tucked them safely away. Tomorrow I will start the carry-on packing in ernest.

I will post the last few days of the countdown, tomorrow, Sat. and Sunday.

If my typing becomes unintelligible, it's either because I can't stand the anticipation anymore, or I've already had one too many beers, or I'm typing in the dark (...right Smileybug?!! :lmao: ).

If it's a combo of all three of the above, I apologize in advance!!!! :worship:

And there you have it....10 Dancing Babnanas!

Well my friends, the time has come.

THE day is just hours away. :goodvibes

My house is clean, our bags are packed, and a few hours of elusive sleep are all that stand between the Lego Clan and our long-awaited trip!

And lots of free food...:rolleyes1

Also, having been strongly urged to bite the bullet and go for the TSM Fastpasses, I guess we'll see what we can do. We are going to be there for EMH tomorrow night (!!), and while I don't expect there to be any FP's left, I will check the stand-by line, just in case it's not insane. I actually wouldn't mind a little bit of a wait, since I've heard that the queue area is nearly as much fun as the ride! Something about a talking Mr. Potato head....

Anyway, I won't be able to check in while we're there, since I don't have a laptop. But I will return to turn this into my full-fledged Trip Report and expect to have many stories to share with you all!

To quote a song from "Narnia," it's

Only the beginning of the adventure!

Thank you! I can go to DHS on just about any given weekend and I'd still fight the line to get to ride TSM. I won't wait for any other ride, even Soarin'. That has to say something.

And not just because I knew you were leaving.

But because half of Monday reversed is...

Nomday.

Have a fantabulous trip. Can't wait to hear all about it.

Oh, and in case you miss it when you're pages behind on the Scrolling Tag Thread when you return, I'm trying a new tactic to get the TF's attention.

It's not that big on humility:

Just an update for all my faithful followers that I am really really hoping to get the first TR installment up sometime later today!! Life came back at us with everything it had and these last few days have been crazy-busy. Worse than the few days before the trip even! I've been trying to bring my brain back to NH with me....I realize it wants to remain day-dreamy in FL but I can't function here if it's still there, kwim?? I think I'm finally coming around so it shouldn't be long now. I want to write a good TR.

So just hang in there....it's coming!

Welcome! If anyone would like to read the precursor to this TR, you can find it here. (http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1882057) It gives some detail on our cast of characters and all the usual anticipation leading up to a long-awaited Disney World trip!

You can also find subsequent chapters to this TR here at the beginning. Links are now at the end of this post!
And now, without further ado, The Incredibles Trip Report!

--------------------------------------------------------

"Dash (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1714016/): We're dead! We're dead! We survived but we're dead!"

We're goin' to Disney World!!! The day has finally arrived!

I was up by 6:30am, as expected. No alarm clock. Just pure adrenaline and anticipation. I poured my token cup of coffee and immediately wished for more... But since I don't particularly like to fly nor do I enjoy having to use the broom closet that they call a "lavatory", one cup o' joe was all I was partaking of on this morning.

So. Sad.

Anywho, we were up, had the car loaded and were off to the airport right on schedule. About 10 minutes into the 45-minute ride, it started....

DS11: "Tell N to turn his Gameboy down. I don't want to listen to that all the way there."
Me: "It's not that loud. He's not bothering anyone."
DS11: "It's bothering me! I don't want to listen to that!"
Me: "Well I'm sorry it's bothering you but I can barely hear it and I'm closer to him! Deal."

Some whining commenced and more not-so-polite words flew through the small confined space of our Taurus wagon... Nice. Well aren't we off to a bright and cheerful start! I think the bickering eventually stopped. I tried to block that part out of my memory so I don't really remember the rest of the ride.

We got to the airport in plenty of time, met up with the in-laws who were taking our car for the week, and headed in to check our bags. Through security, and we make it to our gate with time to spare.

Then it happened. The announcement from hell. Words to strike fear into one's very heart and soul. Right about the time we should have begun boarding, we instead heard this:

"Ladies and gentlemen, we apologize we are going to have a bit of a delay. The person who was refueling the plane indicated that he noticed some hydraulic fluid where it shouldn't have been, so we have some maintenance mechanics taking a look at it and see if we can find out what's going on...."

Um, YEAH!....would you please?!! :scared1:

Hydraulic fluid where it shouldn't be.... :faint:

So we waited.

And waited.

And waited some more.

After 2 hours and about 6 people looking under just about every panel on the underside of that wing, the plane was cleared for flight and we were instructed to board.

It occured to me after-the-fact that I ended up taking a seat right over the offending wing. But the flight finally got underway and it ended up being a smooth and uneventful trip. Except I did end up having to use the broom closet...:headache:

Three hours later we FINALLY landed in Orlando!!!!!!! As we broke through the clouds and I could see Florida below, I got all kinds of goose-bumpy and realized that THAT is my home....where I truly belong.

We made our way to the little monorail-wannabe tram that takes you from the gates to the main terminal.

http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j311/LegoMom3/Disney2008/WDW2008006.jpg

I remembered the airport lobby and the sights and sounds and smells were heightening the anticipation. The boys wanted to stop and mess with the fountain, but I reminded them we had a Magical Express bus to catch and that Mickey was waiting for us. After all, we were two hours late!

I checked us in at ME, and snapped this pic of DS8 and DS6 at the Red Carpet!

http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j311/LegoMom3/Disney2008/WDW2008009.jpg

In no time we were on our way! But then the announcement came that Port Orleans Riverside was the last of four stops that the bus would make... Rats. I did, however, get a good look at Old Key West and decided then and there that if we are ever blessed enough to be able to join DVC, that will be our "home" resort! Did I mention that I love Florida?

When we got to POR, it was like coming home. That sounds so sappy but it was true. Everything was just as I'd remembered. DH and the boys sat by the TV in the lobby while I checked us in. The CM quickly produced the basket that was magically delivered to the boys from Mickey, and it was SO cool. Then, she took out the map of the resort and announced that we were in Building 34!!

WOO-FREAKIN'-HOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had requested it but wasn't holding my breath. It's way at the back of the Alligator Bayou section and I guess that's why we got it, but it's where we stayed last time and I just really loved the location.

I also know how to find it, which is a key component to staying at POR.:rotfl:

We ended up just around the corner and about 9 room numbers from our old room from last time! How cool was that. When we entered this was the first thing I saw!

http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j311/LegoMom3/Disney2008/WDW2008011.jpg

We scored towel animals!!! We had NONE on the last trip, so this excited me. Abnormally so, I'm sure, but nonetheless...

This was the view from our room:

http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j311/LegoMom3/Disney2008/WDW2008013.jpg

At this point we decided it was too late to head to the Studios for the evening. All we wanted to do was grab a bit to eat and have a swim before bed. We would be doing the EMH at Epcot the next morning, so a relaxing evening was the better choice. We headed first to the food court for the first of our FREE meals! While the food was always fresh and good, I must point out here that I was very disappointed in the kids offerings. It seemed like every station had only 2 kid's choices and they weren't much to choose at that. And my biggest complaint was that there was NO pizza on the kids menu at all!! THAT had changed from last time. We always got the little 8" pizza and we all had it and it was never a problem. But since DS8 had his heart set on pizza for dinner, we got it for him anyway.

Enter Susie Snarkypants.

The CM who checked us out seemed obsessed over the fact that we understand that pizza was NOT part of the kids' meal plan, and that she would have to deduct adult credits and how we had so many adult credits' worth on our trays and so many kid credits.... I was confused by the perseveration on her part. Our cards said 3 adults and 2 kids. What we had on our trays was 2 adult meals and 2 kids meals. Never mind that we are supposed to be able to use our credits in any way or combination that we want! If I wanted to use all 8 of my personal adult credits on that one night, then it's my right to do so!!

It would be gross, because I would never eat that much food in one sitting, but I could.

Just sayin'....

Eventually we somehow squeaked through Susie Snarkypant's rigorous meal-credit-use grilling and made our way to a table.

http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j311/LegoMom3/Disney2008/WDW2008018.jpg

The somewhat pained expression on DH's face is due to the fact that he is handing over a precious bite of his yummy chocolate cake to DS8. You don't mess with DH and his chocolate cake!

After dinner we went back to our room to change into swim suits and headed off to Ol' Man Island. The pool was wonderful and I went straight into the water. Only in the South do I swim like that! The boys had a blast and we all started to unwind after our long and quite interesting travel day. When it got dark the lights came on in the pool, the air was still warm and muggy, a horse and buggy clopped down the path and over the wooden bridge....

Yep, it was good to be home. :goodvibes

Oh my stars you're back already! Well your trip just flew by for me so I can only imagine how it felt for you!! Selfishly, I am glad to have you back so I can hear all about it! ;)

[But since I don't particularly like to fly nor do I enjoy having to use the broom closet that they call a "lavatory"... I am SO glad to find someone else who feels this way! I will take almost heroic measures so as not to have to use the broom closet. It freaks me out. And everyone else I know thinks I'm nuts. You and me together, Lego Mom! Solidarity.

Oy. NOT what you needed. I once had a flight (not to WDW) where they spent a minimum of 4 hours examining windshield wipers. Seriously. But I guess we want them to be sure before we fly off into the atmosphere!

Except I did end up having to use the broom closet...:headache:
Argh. Sorry about that.

I checked us in at ME, and snapped this pic of DS8 and DS6 at the Red Carpet!

They look so excited and adorable!! :goodvibes

I did, however, get a good look at Old Key West and decided then and there that if we are ever blessed enough to be able to join DVC, that will be our "home" resort! I stayed there in '06 and LOVED it. Not to mention it is the lowest # of points per night!! And they just made extended contracts available (original ones expired in 2042 but now they expire later than that, I think). Love, love, LOVE OKW!!

Then, she took out the map of the resort and announced that we were in Building 34!!

Had our flight from hell two years ago on Christmas morning. Seems that someone forgot to turn off the batteries on the plane the night before (20 degree night) and they were dead in the morning and they couldn't give the plane a jump so after 3 1/2 hour delay we finally took off (later than we were due to arrive) after replacing 4 huge batteries.

They were good enough to give us all a compensation package. Used the reduced flight coupons to book our tickets to Disney this November.

Oh how I love thee!

Tuesday morning, 6:12am.... I'm awake and ready for my first coffee walk of the week. In what was to become the pattern for this trip, I had spent a fitfull night trying to sleep in between elbow jabs from DS8. So I was glad to be up, out of bed, and starting a new day. Our first full day! I grabbed my KTTW card and stepped outside into the dawn.

And was promptly mugged by the air...

Undaunted and actually revelling in the humidity, I began my stroll from Building 34 allll the way to the food court. It still didn't seem real. It felt like a dream - like I was just re-living it in my mind for the 4,192nd time.

I picked up some bottles of juice and two Year of a Million Dreams refillable mugs which I put right to work. When I returned to our room the boys were still asleep, but DH was awake and we spent a few moments out on the balcony with our coffees. Right about here we realized that the sun rises right outside our door, and we made a little ritual of having our morning coffee together outside, watching the day begin at Disney. It was our moment of solitude, serenity and peace at the start of each day. A few moments to enjoy the beauty of God's creation that we call Florida... A few moments to really just enjoy each other's company and realize how blessed we were to be back in our Happy Place and have this time away. I love my early mornings at the resort.

*sigh*....

Meanwhile, back at WDW on this particular Tuesday!.... Since we wanted to make the EMH at Epcot this morning, we woke the boys before too long and managed to have everyone ready and out the door before 7:30. A quick walk to the West Depot put us on a bus in no time (this would not prove to be the pattern with buses for us, and the experience went quickly downhill the rest of the week...).

Once we stepped off the bus at Epcot and headed for the gate, hearing the Epcot entrance music playing and seeing the park come into view...suddenly it all hit home. We were really there! I got all kinds of giddy and felt like a kid on Christmas morning. The feeling is beyond words.

Which begs the question of why even attempt to write a trip report....

But those of you who've been there, who know that feeling, can appreciate my feeble grasping at words to try to convey the experience of the magic of your first park day.

I find that pictures often do a much better job at relaying an emotion, so here....have a few:

http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j311/LegoMom3/Disney2008/WDW2008021.jpg

http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j311/LegoMom3/Disney2008/WDW2008022.jpg

http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j311/LegoMom3/Disney2008/WDW2008028.jpg

Epcot tends to swallow crowds anyway, and since most people just don't like to get up early on their hard-earned, well-deserved vacations, the place seemed almost empty. We headed straight for Spaceship Earth, eager to pass our judgement on the new "upgrades" that it had received since our last ride on it. I was highly skeptical. I loved the old installment of the ride. I loved the music, the narration, and the whole SE experience. I didn't think it needed messin' with.

Upon entering a car with DS6, I was too busy looking around me to notice that the little interactive screen actually wanted me to interact with it. So DS6 took it upon himself to press the screen. Except that he doesn't read yet, so he inadvertently chose "Japanese" as our language of choice.

Well, wouldn't bother me none but that I don't understand Japanese, written or spoken!!! :headache:

Turns out, our audio was malfunctioning anyway (NOJanetJacksonwardrobe) so nothing lost, really. I did enjoy the new CGI mammoth scene. Our family has a thing for mammoths. It has to do with DS6's favorite stuffed animal, which happens to be a mammoth. He's carried that thing around with him everywhere since he was 3 months old, and it's kind of become our familly's mascot. So we get excited by mammoths.

On to the Roman scene. I immediately noticed that the charioteer no longer careens around that corner and runs down the road. Hmm.... Well, at least Rome still burns in the next scene and you can still smell the smoke! I do have to say that without the audio (which we would finally experience later in our trip) some of the new scenes made no sense to me. Why is there an old car outside some guy's garage?? And why were thigh-high boots EVER legal??!! :scared: Yikes.

Of course the "return to Earth" was pretty blah without any audio and without an interactive screen. So we looked at the very calculated array of stars at the end and I wondered how many mirrors there actually were to make them seem like they went on forever.

At the end of the ride we were happily surprised by the interactive segment. Seimen's is the parent company of DH's employer, so he was especially curious to see what they had done. The kids found the racing game right away, and would have stayed there for the rest of the day had we not reminded them that this was Epcot and not just a big computer playground. Well, parts of Epcot are a big computer playground, but I digress...

From Spaceship Earth we headed to Soarin'. This is a favorite ride of our whole family so it was important to get on it early before the lines built up. And then something happened on the way through The Land.

Hunger struck.

When a man gets hungry, you feed him. Doesn't matter if he's 5 or 105...a man's hunger is not to be denied!

Conveniently they put the Sunshine Season's Food Fair right smack in the middle of the pavillion! And here is our breakfast of champions: (NOwheaties)

Happiest. Nom. Ever.

Having consumed our day's quota of sugar in 3 or 4 delicious bites, we finally queued up for Soarin'. The wait was 5 minutes, which is not a wait in my book. And I high-fived Puddy on my way into the flight deck.

As we exited Soarin' we decided to grab some Fastpasses so we could see it again. The return time was just far enough away that we thought we could go see the "new" Seas with Nemo and Friends. And so we did. These guys cracked us up on our way in...

There was no wait here, either, which simply put means that the long and winding queue area seemed really, really long before we ever reached a clam-mobile! There was some really cool theming in there, though. I liked the area where you appear to be under water, complete with the "butt" floating above!

The ride here was cute enough. We did spend quite a bit of time watching the fish in the aquarium. I'm not brave enough to ever learn to scuba-dive, but I love the chance to really observe an underwater environment as though you're right there in it.

Cool stuff.

Just about the time we decided we'd seen what we wanted to of The Seas, sure enough it was the start of our Fastpass return time for Soarin'. After another high-five and another trip over the orange groves (love that scene!!), it was time to traverse the park to the other headliners that might require the strategy of a Fastpass.

A funny thing happened on our way to Test Track....

....we suddenly found ourselves inside Club Cool.

And was it ever cooooool in there. Literally. It's a wonder more people don't get sick at Disney. The difference between inside air and outside air in the summer months has got to be near 30 degrees and 40% humidity! And, in this case, some really nasty Coke products (NOBeverly!!!!!)

http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j311/LegoMom3/Disney2008/WDW2008052.jpg

I don't recall all the names of the sodas, but we liked the one from Israel, the one from China, and the Gingerale-like one that I don't remember where it's from. The others were "meh" at best. Beverly stands alone.

Oh so alone....

By the time we reached Test Track, the Sign of Doom was reading 40 minutes. The LegoMom Clan doesn't do 40-minute waits, so Fastpass it was and off to Mexico to kill some time. The boat ride is a good respite from the heat, at least. Donald now adds some much-needed comic relief, but to me it's still just a time-killer. Sorry, Mexico! After Mexico, heat-exhausted by the 10 or so steps that we'd taken since exiting the building, we were again accosted by food. This time in the form of an ice cream cart. Dang but those snack credits come in handy! So we enjoyed our Mickey's Premium Ice Cream Bars in the shade of a blessed tree by the Odyssey Center (what is that about anyway??....other than a convenient path between Test Track and World Showcase!). This was actually one of those warm-fuzzy family moments. We were all feeling happy, enjoying our ice cream, sitting in a pleasant shady spot on a very hot day.... It was just a "life is good" kind of moment and simple though it was, it stands out as a very good memory from that day and indeed the entire trip. Sometimes there's great joy in the smallest moments!

Once again, we had used the Fastpass system perfectly to our advantage and it was now the start of our return time window. There was still a bit of a wait, but nothing like the now-almost-an-hour standby line! Score. We got to see, for the first time, some of the testing that is on display in the queue area. The neck stress test was particularly disturbing.... The dummy is flung around in a 180-degree arc and stopped very abruptly, whereupon his head and metal-spring-like neck are snapped back with great force. Ewww.... The boys, on the other hand, were getting quite a kick (no pun intended) out of the knee-reflex thing that was going on with this other dummy. I never figured out what that was about, but it was funny to watch.

After Test Track the Brave Ones decided they weren't so much in the mood for Mission Space just now, so it was saved for another time. We spent some time looking at all manner of Disney merchandising propoganda in Mouse Gears, whereupon I discovered that even the wingnuts have been Disney-fied...

Beaten by the heat, a unanimous vote was taken to return to Port Orleans and have a nice refreshing swim for a bit before dinner....

Next time: It's neither whispering, nor a canyon: discuss!

Finally, I found a Trip Report.

I'm not sure when you were in Disney World, but it occurs to me we might have been there at the same time. I'll keep looking in the background of your pictures to see if any ZZUBs are spotted.

Your description of PORiverside is very vivid. We really enjoyed it there and I think Ol Man Island is one of the best pools on property. It never felt too crowded and the slide is a boat-load of fun. I loved the morning coffee walks there, too.

It's interesting the sense of familiarity you describe around every corner at Disney World. Mrs. Z and I were talking about that on the day we arrived as well. How you can be gone for a year or more and get on the ME bus and it all feels like you were just there, five minutes earlier. I don't know why that is. Is it b/c we spend so much time talking about our trips and dreaming of the next one? Or have we crossed over into full on obsession? I'll leave that to the medical experts.

Looking forward to reading more.

It might have been "drive-by" but it meant a lot to me!! It was GREAT to meet you, to be able to put a face to "TK" now when I read these boards! I also can't wait to read more about YOUR trip!

Indeed we were. I hope you and your DH have just as magical of a trip! I can't wait for a DH-and-I-only trip....:headache: But you'll read more on that in upcoming chapters!! :rotfl:

LL! Great to see you! Isn't Soarin' the best? I could ride that over and over, too. I still want to know how they make you feel like you're picking up speed as you crest the mountain with the skiers on it....

And how do you like the pics?.....and hey!...not a lamp to be seen!! :lmao:

Zzub!!!.... Thanks for stopping by! Glad you're enjoying it. I have to tell you, even though we "have" to stay at POR due to being a family of 5 [who can't currently afford deluxe...], you introduced me to the place in "The Battle...III" ! When we stayed there the first time two years ago, I already knew all about the confusing paths in AB, the serenity of an early morning coffee walk, and that the pool slide is good for Olympic gold! :thumbsup2

Hmm.... talking about past trips, planning the next, or full on obsession? I'll take "Full On Obsession" for $1000 please, Alex.

Welcome! It's ok, it reads just as well in bits and pieces. And hey, you can always just look at the pictures! :goodvibes
