Loved the update Miss Cammie. We also had the smoking area problem while staying at AKL...who's bright idea was that? We did find that by cutting through the marketplace you could avoid the smoking area. My daughters do the coughing thing when walking by smokers as well. Too bad about so much rain...hope it cleared up through your trip.

Awesome update. Teddy reminds me of some of the students in my class when he was going on and on about the tree. I love that! I cried when Sally cried. I remember how important Minnie Mouse is to her. Thanks for the great writing! I always enjoy your trip reports.

We hopped on and took a seat. Teddy took a deep breath and said "It still smells like elephants and giraffes in here!"

:lmao:

It wasn't a complaint. Teddy was thrilled!

Sally wrinkled her little nose. She wasn't nearly so thrilled with the zoo smell! I will always find it an odd smell that is unique to the monorail at Disney...and animals parks.

It does have that peculiar smell like that of a barn doesn't it.:rotfl:

Great update as always MissCammie.:thumbsup2

Your Teddy sounds alot like my Hannah. I swear the child talks so much it makes my ears bleed. But I love her madly! LOL And when she's excited she's all over the place.

Another great update! And as soon as I saw the words "Minnie Mouse" I started tearing up because I remember the meeting with Minnie from your last report and I knew this was going to be special too. God Bless Minnie!

Great update. Sally sounds so much like my dd (soon to be 8) and the funny thing is I have a sister named Sally, who was very much like your Sally when she was growing up.

Sorry you had scary rain---it's amazing how it can come down sometimes in FL.

I will be praying for Sally's surgery next week.

Miss Cammie.. what a great chapter.. Sally is so sweet with her Minnie Mouse.

Faye was a a nasty storm, I don't remember exactly when it was here and gone. I hope it clears out soon for your trip... can't wait to read more!!!

We've not yet done Chef Mickey's but are going in June, I'm SO excited to try it.

Love, Love, Love this chapter! I am a huge Hairspray fan! My kiddos and I erupt into spontaneous dance parties in the kitchen whenever we play the CD! :dance3: TOO MUCH FUN! :thumbsup2 So sweet the relationship your Miss Sally has with Minnie! My own little girls are wild for the mice too! My 5yr old wrote a letter to Minnie and Mickey and personally hand delivered it to them after waiting in line for 25 mins! They were so thrilled with the letter and made a BIG production of reading it and then carefully handing it over to theor handlers to keep! My DD was thrilled beyond words! Biggest smiles ever! :) Can't wait to read more MissCammie! Lovin' it so far!

Woo-hoo a new chapter! Sally and Minnie - I am crying sitting here too! I love how tuned in so many of the character and other cm's are and it is one of the many things that makes me love WDW. We loved AKL but agree about the dumb smoking area - why wasn't it on the other side of the entrance??? We finally learned the cutting through Zawadi market trick too.

Prayers to Sally, Happy Birthday to both kids, and Looking forward to the next chapter!

We were at AKL on Mon 25th Aug -Never seen rain like it and we're from the UK:lmao: We had about 30 min wait for our ressie at Boma and just sat on a bench and watched it pour down-the road was like a river. Wonder if this was the same night.

Enjoying your updates MissCammie; love and prayers to all of you; especially Sally. My DD had to have a general for facial surgery a few years ago so I know how you're feeling

I can honestly say that reading your trip reports has been an absolute joy. Your writing style mixed in with the amount of details you include make these easily some of the best TR's on the DIS. You definitely set the bar high writing these and I eagerly await for the rest.

Great update again, MissCammie. I remember Faye, she hung out for days :sad2: But lots better than a hurricane.

That reminds me, the night Faye was storming in, I was hunting for some candles and things in a closet. A vase fell down and broke into a ton of pieces. I put the pieces in the trash, not thinking any more about it, closed up the bag and put it in the garage.

I hate driving in the dark and in the rain. Dark and rain combined is the worst.

So DD, 23, decided to do whatever in the garage and picked up the garbage bag and sliced her hand open. Much crying and wailing ensued. I ended up driving her to the emergeny room in the rain and dark in the middle of a tropical storm to get stitches. No fun. At all!

DH was working Hurricane duty that night. Lucky me, I get to spend hurricanes without male protection, LOL.

DH has to protect Minnie's house...

Love all your reports.

But I repeat my request again to please include an update date in your title, so it's not always hunt and peck to see if there was a real update or just people begging for one.

Pretty please? :flower3:

Thanks for the update, Miss Cammie. Hope Sally sails through the surgery just fine!

Believe me, that smoking area is MUCH better than when it was right ON the walk way. At least now it's a few feet removed. It's hard for me not to do the 'coughing thing' too, because it does make me cough. Maybe they could move it to down by the parking lot. That would be WAY better.

Oh that Teddy and Megan are twins! I cannot get her dressed in a hurry for anything. And if I get strict (re: grouchy) about it at all she squawks at me like a high pitched Donald herself! I love Teddy breaking out in song!

Poor Sally (and you too)! Hope the surgery and recovery go super quick. Can't wait for your next update!

Great Update!!! Will be saying prayers for Sally this week! Crying my eyes out...but like Sally and a lot of females....we just feel much better afterwards!

We've been considering staying at AKL for our next visit (whenever that will be:sad2:) so it's good to know about the smokers area on the way to the bus. That just doesn't make sense to me!

Sniff, snurffle. That Sally and Minnie always gets to me. Sending prayers that everything turns out well for her this week.

Teddy is an amazing little boy! Have you had his IQ tested? He seems to be waaaay beyond his years. To be able to understand all that about trees and retain it. You've got a little genius on your hands.

Hey everybody!!! Sorry this chapter took so darn long! Things have been hectic. The kids birthdays are coming up (four days apart!), Jay's parents are coming down for Easter, and Sally has to have surgery AGAIN. grr.

It's nothing life threatening. She has a cyst just above her upper lip...you can't see it but it causes her to bite her lip a lot. It's a tricky little thing and hard to get out completely in just one surgery. We were hoping, but the plastic surgeon wants to go in one more time before Sally heals up totally so he can get all of it. It's a bummer of a way to spend the last part of her spring break. The surgery is set for Thursday next week. Prayers would be much appreciated! General anesthesia scares the bejeebers out of me. (Sally handles it like a champ and wakes right up...but I'm a worry wart!)

Prayers for Sally's surgery on Thursday.

:lmao: Teddy is certainly gifted in a lot of ways. He's just like his dad. He has a steel trap mind that can retain nearly everything he hears...if it is something that interests him. Ask him to remember to make his bed though and somehow that escapes him almost immediately!:confused3:lmao: Teddy's teacher said that he is an extremely bright boy...who can't sit still in class...he's all go all the time! Jay's mom was here this weekend and commented how very much Teddy is like Jay when Jay was young. Jay was often in trouble in class b/c he'd finish before everyone else and get bored which would inevitably lead to trouble. Jay definitely passed on the "imp" gene!!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Thanks everybody for the prayers for Sally's surgery tomorrow. It's going to be a bit more complicated we found out. The cyst in somewhat in the facial muscle. This is not good...mostly b/c Sally will have quite a bit more pain in recovery. Poor baby. I wish I could do this for her. I would in a heart beat.

All the good thoughts and prayers are much appreciated!!:goodvibes

thanks everybody! I'm such a nervous wreck right now! Sally is fine...she's relaxed and totally okay. Her biggest concern was always the IV and the needle involved. Thank goodness the plastic surgeon has a heart and an understanding of children...he puts her out with gas BEFORE they put the IV in. It really eliminates the worry and that helps A LOT! Of course Sally is none too happy when she wakes up with the IV still in. She was very grumpy about it last time. I'm sure she will be just as grumpy this time.

I just want the surgeon to get everything so we can be done with this. I don't want Sally to hurt afterward. I just want her to be okay and happy and healthy.

I hate the before part. Really hate it. Makes me crazy!!!

I will be sure to let everyone know when she's done and awake!

thank you thank you all for the prayers and good thoughts!

:rotfl2:And so it begins…another Disney trip taken by the CampbellScot’s! This year we got our full ten days in! It was a Disney Safari at Animal Kingdom Lodge and we had a blast!

Of course…being that we ARE CampbellScot’s we had our fair share of rule breakers and SMOKERS and general if not appalling rudeness…

But we survived.

I suppose before I go any further, I ought to make the introductions!

But before that…the Disclaimer:

This trip report is not meant to instruct, judge, problem solve, annoy, anger, or enrage anyone who is reading it. This is just me, recounting my vacation with my husband and step children. I’m not perfect, my family is not perfect, and I would never try to portray us in that light. I am hopelessly flawed. I’m controlling and bossy and more often than not a major pain in the rump. I am blessed to be married to a man who can see beyond all that and love me anyway. For some reason my step kids have chosen to accept my flawed ways and love me no matter how bossy I may be. I am human. I make huge mistakes…constantly…but I do try to learn from those mistakes and do better the next time. I’m just one Disney dork, remembering a trip and hoping to share the joy of those memories with others. Nothing more. If a person finds themselves disliking the way I write…or the way I live, or speak or parent or wife…please feel free to exercise your right to stop reading my report.

Yay free will!

OKAY…here we go!

Introductions!!!

First off is Jay…the father, the husband, the linchpin of this whole operation! He is level headed, practical to a fault and the most capable and compassionate man I’ve ever encountered in my life. Every time I turned around on this trip, Jay was helping someone…random strangers…people just gravitate to this man. He has an “I can fix it” vibe coming off him like nobody’s business! He’s a bit on the stubborn side…a VERY Type A workaholic…and a clean freak of the highest order. We work well together! I said it before, I’ll say it now…I won the boy lottery on this one. He’s a keeper!!

Next up:

Sally, aged 9. Oh our Sally Rally…my my how a year changes things! Last year we were all about Minnie Mouse. Minnie was THE star of the trip. To see Minnie was a thrill. Fast forward a year…suddenly Zac Efron and High School Musical is the main topic of conversation…at all times. Sally is head over heels in LOVE with Zac. She has memorized every single song from both movies…she’ll break into song frequently, out of the blue…”We’re all in this together…” Sally is still the ultimate rule following little soldier of Justice! Her tolerance level for smokers and rule breakers alike has gone WAY down…I didn’t think that was possible. How WRONG I was. Sally’s patience in general has gone way down. She does NOT understand people choosing to break rules…on purpose. We had some tears of frustration over rude people, pushy people, people cutting in line, smoking in non smoking areas, people smoking AT ALL...people choosing not to wear deodorant in her vicinity, her little brother…all the things that merely annoyed her last summer nearly sent her over the EDGE this summer. As much as I hate to admit it, Sally is not a little girl anymore. She is forcefully marching towards her tweens and has a little attitude to go with it. Jay and I got an inkling of what her teen years may be like. :scared1: Of course this is Sally we are talking about…she had more than her fair share of incredibly sweet moments…kind and nurturing moments with her little brother…cuddly moments with her daddy and with me. She is still Sally…but she packed several pairs of Fussy Britches and wore them often!

Teddy, aged 6. Teddy hasn’t changed over much since last summer. He’s still as handsome as ever. He’s taller and all angles. Which means he is even MORE clumsy and unaware of his body and where it is in space. That child stepped on my feet 84,000+ times over ten days. He stepped on everyone’s feet. Constantly. He had no awareness of it at all. Teddy is still his happy go lucky little self. He is still filled to the brim with mischief and an insatiable curiosity. He wants to know how EVERYTHING works. Why it works the way it works…who thought it up? When did they think it up? HOW did they think it up? He has an endless need to KNOW. He still amazes me with the information he retains and spits out at random moments. Teddy is a bright and loving little boy and the ultimate comic relief. He is learning how to annoy his sister in less obvious ways…which led to a lot of “What?” paired with innocent eye blinking. He is such a stinker…like his daddy that boy!

Lastly…Me…CampbellScot…aka, MissCammie. For those who don’t know this, the kids were introduced to me as MissCammie the very first time I met them. In New Jersey it is not uncommon for children to call adult women “Miss” whatever their first name is. This is also not uncommon in Texas, where I was born and raised. So I wasn’t uncomfortable with it…the kids weren’t…and it stuck. Even after we tried to get the kids to drop the Miss once it was clear that I was going to be more than just an acquaintance of theirs. But they won’t. So here I am. MissCammie. One word. :)

I am a misplaced Southern girl living on the East Coast. I love dachshunds and diet coke…insanely addicted is a more accurate description of the depth of my diet coke love…I am neurotic and bossy and obsessively germ phobic. I am a stickler for manners at all times…most importantly when eating, but I also require manners in public places, over the phone, in crowds, and pretty much anywhere in which a person is in the company of another living creature. I’m a nut about it. I don’t let it slide…ever. (see…bossy!) One still needs to have manners regardless of being tired, sick, hungry, or any other disagreeable whathaveyou. I have a wicked step mother eyebrow arch that I often employ instead of using words. It is very powerful. It frightens the children….which is my job…and I do it well…*EVIL LAUGH*

Don’t judge. It’s my job. Ask Lady Tremaine.

And that’s enough about me.

This was the year for our TEN DAY trip! The trip of dreams...the one that got away. Not this year. Nope. We were hanging on for dear life to this one!

As I said before, we chose to stay at Animal Kingdom Lodge this trip. Teddy is a NUT for animals. He was NOT disappointed. The animals were fantastic. Some other things weren’t so fantastic…but we’ll get to that later. Overall we loved Animal Kingdom Lodge. It was home for ten whole days!

Last year, on departure day, we woke up to some pretty heavy rain. I was worried that our flight would be delayed…but it wasn’t. We arrived safely to sun soaked Orlando.

Not so this year. Nope.

There had to be rain…hurricane rain.

I heard a nasty rumor about a hurricane called Fay that was said to be heading towards Florida…Orlando…DISNEYWORLD!

:scared1:

But it was supposed well into the Carolina’s by the time our trip was to start.

I kept an eye on accuweather.com and was satisfied with the weather predictions…

But I made the mistake of reading the threads on the Dis about hurricane Fay.

Oh my WORD…calamity was predicted. It seemed that every person that commented on Fay was POSITIVE that not only would she still be dumping on Orlando on August 21rst, but she would stick around for ten more days with biblical level rains and we’d probably have to BOAT from park to park.

:headache:

I never should have read those threads.

I was in such a panic over the weather that I was ready to invoke the trip insurance and not go. It was just too much to imagine our trip that I had been painstakingly planned down to the last second…was going to be rained out.

I was absolutely panic stricken.

Thankfully the predictions were wrong.

Totally and completely wrong.

:cool1:

Of course I didn’t know the threads would be wrong on our departure day. I had gotten into a bit of a funk in my head. I didn’t want the kids to be disappointed. I wanted this to be the trip of the CENTURY for them…and endless soaking rain was NOT going to aid me in this dream realization.

When the alarm went off at 4am, it was with a fluttery feeling of panic that I pulled myself out of bed. I had not slept much as I had totally procrastinated in packing and was still trying to get things arranged to my liking at 3am! I was tired.

Sally and Teddy were NOT tired at all. They were wide awake in their rooms totally dressed and RARIN to go!

When I opened Sally’s bedroom door I saw that she had her bed neatly made, her backpack firmly on her little back and a huge smile on her face.

“Ready for Disney MissCammie!! I’m ready to go! Bunny’s ready to go too! We’re all ready to go!!!”

:lmao:

Hey Sally…are you ready to go?

:rotfl:

This child was so excited. I was excited for her. The summer had been long and complicated for Sally. We’d had an unfortunate happening with the art camp that Sally had so DESPERATELY wanted to attend being less than…good. The reviews for this camp must have been written by the director herself, b/c the only art being done was some random coloring on construction paper. We had been told that there would be ceramics classes, and painting classes, and all manner of artistic endeavors. Not a one of those things ever materialized. There was bit of coloring on construction paper in the mornings and the rest was either being plunked in front of a DVD all day or being hauled out to a park in the heat of mid day and being told by the “counselors” to “SHUT UP” and “LEAVE US ALONE”. Needless to say Sally and Teddy did not remain at that camp. It was about a week before Sally told us what was really going on. Oh my WORD I was SO mad. We had been getting papers every day talking about the activities the kids didn't do.I got on the phone and made me an angry phone call. Oh my the “I can’t BELIEVE that’s” and “I will CERTAINLY be looking int this”…what a LOAD of poo. This lady was ripping people off left and right. GRRR. SO…camp was a bust. Sally was angry and disappointed and never quite let it go. She felt betrayed by adults who are supposed to tell the truth at all times. Being nine can be rough. She's beginning to see that people can be jerks...at any age.

But man you’d never know she had a moment of strife to look at her on this morning. She was all smiles. The sparkles of joy coming off of her were infectious!

almost.

I hoping that my current dark outlook would improve some so I could join my family in the Disney Bubble of Joy!

Teddy just about did it.

I found him laying on his bed, hanging upside down off it so that his head touched the floor…and he was attempting to color from that position.

:rotfl2:

“Ummm, Teddy…whatcha doin?”

The boy didn’t miss a beat.

“coloring upside down…”

:lmao:

Obviously.

“Oh…cool. Very artistic. Are you ready freddy to go to Disney?”

“Yep. I’m ready. I already went potty…”

:lmao:

“Good Boy Teddy bear!”

Jay was up and moving in vacation mode. He had the suitcases ready to go, waiting by the door. He was striding around the house in that in control way he has…making sure everything was where it needed to be, tidying the already spotless house for the house sitter. He was ready for vacation too.

It was only me and my Eeyore dark cloud that was having a hard time getting my Disney groove on.

I took my puppy outside to powder his nose once more before we put him in his kennel. The puppy sitter was going to arrive at 7am so he wouldn’t be alone too long. I absolutely LOATHE leaving my puppy for any extended amount of time. I feel so badly for him. He thinks we’ll be home after while, but we won’t. It will be the puppy sitter…whom he loves and adores, but I’m sure he’ll be confused. Poor baby. LAST year we left him at the vet boarding facility. I thought that would be the safest place for him. Turns out I was very wrong. He had a nasty deep scratch on his nose when we picked him up and I found out later that the dogs at the kennel were left from 7pm to 8am every evening. ALONE. In their sad little cement floored kennels. That was NOT in the pictures on their website or on the tour. WHAT is with all this FALSE advertising?! I’m also pretty sure that at least one of the guys working for the kennel had been on America’s Most Wanted more than once.

Seriously.

I was just fit to be tied about the scratch and I wasn’t going to subject my baby to that treatment again. So he stayed with the house sitter.

I’m sorry…was this a digression?

Anyhow…

It wasn’t long before the lookouts (Sally and Teddy) SCREECHED “The Limo is here!!!”

Sally snapped this with her NEW just for Disney camera!! Next time she remembered to open the flash!
http://i164.photobucket.com/albums/u12/CampbellScot/Disney%202008/100_2781.jpg

And that was that. It was time go. The long awaited moment had finally arrived.

And here I was worrying about nasty weather in Orlando.

It did NOT help that the forecast for New Jersey was pretty much the most SPECTACULAR weather the state had ever seen in it’s ENTIRE history as a state…ever.

Seriously.

:headache:

We piled in to the swanky as all get out limo and headed to the airport. It was a white limo this year!

Cause that’s how we roll.

(or we have too much luggage and too many people to fit into a regular car and a van costs the same as a limo…and the kids so get a kick out of the limo…so we’re not nearly as cool as we might appear to be…)

We made it to the airport in no time flat. We got checked in pretty quickly too. Sally didn’t even attempt to fight me on the shoes off thing.

It was not out of the goodness of her little heart however. This girl had a plan.

That little poot had packed and extra pair of socks in her backpack to change into so that she didn’t have to wear the contaminated ones that had touched the airport floor…AND she brought a little ziplock baggie to put the contaminated socks into.

All I could do was shake my head at her.

Points for problem solving.

Sally is no longer the age that she just does what she’s told b/c she’s told to.

She’s gone and developed a stubborn streak our Sal…she is now aware that adults don’t HAVE to know every little thing and as long as she can figure it out herself, there’s no reason to engage in power struggles with adults about germy airport floors…right?

This lovely new personality quirk has incited some head to head battles…but mostly I’m proud of her for finding her own way.

Stinker.

SO…clean socks on, germs safely packed away…we headed to the gate and found a seat. It was mostly quiet except for the televisions that were set to news channels talking about Hurricane Fay…

:headache:

EVIL EVIL WEATHER!

The kids sure weren't bugged by anything. They were on their Disney high! Teddy was just thrilled to be able to see airplanes up close!

He is FASCINATED by planes. The child could watch planes all day every day and never get bored. He hopped up onto the chair to look out the window. On reflex I reminded him that he should not be standing on furniture…

http://i164.photobucket.com/albums/u12/CampbellScot/Disney%202008/100_2782.jpg

"Okay MissCammie."

http://i164.photobucket.com/albums/u12/CampbellScot/Disney%202008/100_2788.jpg

:lmao:

This boy is no dummy.

I had to give myself a talking to about my mood. Jay and the kids were SO excited. The stressful look Jay carries around with him had pretty much melted away. He had even done a cursory check of the area and announced that it didn’t look like there were any violent children fixin to board the flight.

There were LOTS of kids…of course…but everyone appeared to be fairly well behaved…or too small to actually hurt me if in fact I was seated next to a flailing, tantrum having one…

But I brought my hockey mask just in case.

No bloody noses this year for MissCammie. At least not on the plane!

Before long it was time to begin boarding. I had to laugh at the announcement that there would be no early boarding for families with children! EVERYBODY had children.

The airline isn't stupid either.

Teddy was skip hopping in anticipation. Sally was rolling her eyes at her totally embarrassing little brother.

We were ready to go!

I was actually greeted with a most agreeable surprise once I was seated…there was an ADULT man sitting next to the window and I had the aisle. Jay and the kids were in the row right across from me. And guess who was in the middle seat?

NOBODY!!!!!

Well YEE-HAW for me!!!

I was quite happy to be able to sit with more than the usual amount of room and read my book! (I had gotten the book “Chalked Up” by Jennifer Sey. She was the 1986 National gymnastics champion. The book was a memoir about her life as an elite gymnast. I highly recommend the book. Anyone who is interested in what those little girls are subjected to at an early age would be VERY interested in Jennifer Sey’s story!)

The flight was fairly smooth and uneventful…quiet even. There was a woman behind me who had never flown before though and she kept giving out little shrieks followed by “Oh my LORD…is that normal?! Are we supposed to do that?!” with any sort of a dip or shudder. As we got closer to Florida, and began our descent from the blue sky into the rain and clouds, the air got choppy and we had some bumpity turbulence…Teddy’s response was,

“COOL!!! It’s like a ROLLER COASTER!!!”

:lmao:

The first time flier was not as excited about this particular thrill ride.

She started praying…

Loudly.

The praying got louder as we were fixing to land…the plane was swaying a bit…more than normal.

So we landed to a chorus of

“Oh Lord SAVE ME!”

People were cracking up all around us.

I guess the praying worked though…because we landed safely.

In the rain.

And the wind…

:headache:

The Campbellscot’s had arrived. No one was bleeding...yet

We were ready to begin our Disney adventure!!!

in our ponchos...

:headache:

:woohoo::banana::woohoo::banana: Yeaaaahhhhh surgery is done!!! I hate the thought of any child having pain but at least she is done and all is well! Knowing just how kids are she will heal quickly and be in pain for a lot less time than any of us adults would be! Grumpy as a wet cat made me laugh out loud! That perfectly describes me every morning I have to wake up early! I am not a morning person!!

I'm excited about the next chapter but am willing to wait so you can go spoil miss Sally as she deserves for waking up and having the IV still in! :rotfl:

thanks everyone! The surgeon said he got EVERYTHING. He sent samples to the pathology lab three times to make sure. Sally is quite a bit more swollen than last time. There is a slight indentation where the tissue was removed but the surgeon thinks that will go away as the swelling goes away. Poor baby. He made mention of "being able to fix that later should the indentation not go away..." He is a plastic surgeon after all. Sally was NOT hearing that. She got a little hysterical at the very mention of more surgery or anything that has to do with needles. I think her bravery is pert near used up at this point. Y'all can only imagine the eyebrow arch that the surgeon was dealt. In my opinion that moment was not the most appropriate to discuss such things.

poor baby. Sally was starving aside from being in pain. It did not help that she is on a liquid diet for the next few days. But daddy reminded her that ice cream is liquid! Grandma promised a big vanilla shake as soon as she was discharged. This did some good to Sally's foul mood! Doesn't ice cream make everything better?! I'm hoping that the pain meds will do their job double quick and Mistress Mary Quite Contrary will be off to dreamland! :thumbsup2

I just wanted to say thanks once again to everyone for their good thoughts and prayers and for the cheers afterward. :cheer2:Y'all are a wonderful bunch of people and I'm very grateful to *know* all y'all!

Anyhow...sorry for being so late with this chapter!!!

You have no reason to apologize. We're thrilled when you can update and will wait patiently. I'm so sorry to hear that Sally had to have surgery TWICE. yuck. But also happy to hear that things seem to be going well.

I also think the guy side of him did not so much appreciate his son singing a song with words like…”ever since this whole world began a woman found out if she shook it she could shake up a man…” :rotfl2: Poor Jay.

I really laughed at this whole Teddy singing episode - don't kids have a knack for picking up on stuff sometimes and seem to hone in on the part you really don't want them too? (Although personally, I love these lyrics!)

My two youngest daughters fell in LOVE with Les Miserable when they were in pre-school. I just about died when I realized they must have been listening to, and memorizing the entire cassette tape when their pre-K teacher pulled me aside to let me know that my toddlers were belting out the song "Lovely Ladies" on the playground. You know the song? The one that includes the lyrics, "quick and cheap is underneath the pier..."

NOT funny at the time. Fortunately, we all saw it as a learning opportunity and they quickly became the cassette police, fast-forwarding through that song and a few others on the tape when it was played. :teacher:

LOVED the Minnie episode, and I think you're right - she'll still be choking up when she sees Minnie long after she's reached adulthood.

Hugs and virtual ice cream for Sally!

When Jay and Teddy returned, Jay took one look at our faces and started laughing. Loudly. Like he couldn’t help himself. When he recovered he looked at me and said “Let me guess…Minnie Mouse came by?”

I had to laugh a little bit too as I nodded my head.

Then Teddy went and did the sweetest thing ever…he saw his sisters face had some tears. So he came around the table to Sally, put his arms around her and said “Are you okay sister?”

I thought for sure that Sally would at the very least reprimand Teddy for getting in her space, but she surprised me by leaning into his hug a little bit and saying “I’m okay. Thanks Teddy…”

Well color me shocked.

Sally and Teddy aren’t very physical with each other…unless there is a camera around. They hug adults and friends…they would rather be sitting ON someone than next to them…but when it comes to purposeful body contact with each other…not so much. Really not since Sally hit about 7 and Teddy was old enough to derive pleasure from annoying his sister.

Of course this little interaction would be tucked away in my brain and brought out when Sally finds herself at a boiling point with Teddy.

Use what you got is my motto!

After the love fest, Sally and I went up to get our food. There wasn’t much that Sally was interested in. She’s had a nervous tummy as of late and her already limited diet was more limited. We ended up with some chicken strips and some veggies. Not too bad overall.

We joined Teddy and Jay and got some food in our hungry bellies! Sally was feeling much better and was all smiles and really seemed to be enjoying the atmosphere. She took her camera out and snapped pictures as characters came by. She and Teddy were both delighted as characters came up to our table!

true indeed!

At one point Teddy looked at me and said “ MissCammie, I’m telling you…and I really mean this…Chef Mickey’s ROCKS!”

:lmao:

I agreed wholeheartedly!

Once we finished dinner food, it was time for DESSERT!! But before we could get up, two cupcakes were brought to our table in honor of Jay’s and my anniversary!! There was napkin waving happiness all around us! Teddy LOVES this kind of thing. Sally got into it too…she insisted that Jay and I “kiss b/c you love each other”…

getting into the spirit!
http://i164.photobucket.com/albums/u12/CampbellScot/100_3022.jpg

NOW it was time for dessert. Teddy and Jay got their chocolate fix with some brownies and Mickey Oreos. I think I got in on that Mickey Ear Oreo action as well...seriously...FABULOUS!!! Sally had some vanilla ice cream with gummie bears. She still obsessively counts out the gummie bears to coincide with her age. She excludes any green gummie bears and gives them to her father. She has done this since she was very small. No one is sure why…least of all Sally. It’s just what she does. :confused3

A picture of our collective sugar fixes!
http://i164.photobucket.com/albums/u12/CampbellScot/100_3069.jpg

Sally was thrilled with the cupcakes but made a point to tell me "MissCammie, your cupcakes are WAY better!"

naturally...

*ahem*

;)

We sat together and got our sugar high and watched the characters as they pranced around the floor. The Grumpy side of me kept an eye on the increasingly wild weather outside.

When it was time to go, we settled up and got ready to head out!

Just as we were leaving, I caught sight of Minnie. She was seemingly whispering something to a CM. I’m not sure if this was a handler or not, but she appeared to saying something! Next thing I know, she’s scurrying towards us! (I'm glad I saw her doing this...I'm not an over big fan of large characters rushing up behind me...when I'm not prepared I tend to jump and yelp...not so classy...) Minnie ran right to Sally and scooped her up in a great big Mouse hug. (Which I imagine is the mouse version of a Bear Hug!) She sort of danced back and forth a little bit and gave Sally a little shake. She kissed her hand and pressed it once more to Sally’s face. Ack…got me all choked up again. Sally was beaming. Minnie gave Teddy a hug as well and ruffled his hair. I thanked Minnie and I hoped that she really caught my look of gratitude. It was heartfelt and very sincere. I think she did because she took my hand and gave it a squeeze. Minnie made a heart with her hands and pointed at Sally. Sally caught the drift.

“I love you too Minnie! See you later!”

I thanked Minnie once again as we left. She nodded her head at me as we bid her goodbye. I found myself once more very grateful for Disney Magic. It had settled over us, over Sally in particular. We were lifted up and surrounded by that Disney feeling. This moment is the reason I will return to Disney every single chance I get. It’s the magic. It’s pure and simple and true. The people I love most in this world were sparkling with that magic. That means something to me. It’s real and it touches Sally’s tender heart in a way that will stay with her forever.

Who needs therapy when you have Disney?!

I know...sappy sappy. Sometimes I can't help myself!

On a side note: I sent a thank you message to Minnie by way of a call to Chef Mickey’s. I gave the day and time we were there and I told the manager to thank Minnie for her special attention that day and how much it meant to my Sally. He assured me he knew how great Minnie was and he would certainly tell her of my thanks!

The greatest ending to this moment would have been the sun breaking through the hurricane force winds and rain.

But it didn’t.

Oh well. Adversity builds character!

*sigh*

Before heading out into the wilds of the evening, we stopped at the gift shop just outside of Chef Mickey’s.

Before anything else however, we had to hit the Penny Smashers!! Our first of the vacation!!

Daddy is handing out the coinage!

http://i164.photobucket.com/albums/u12/CampbellScot/100_3080.jpg

Next stop: GIFT SHOP!!

This trip I made a point to take pictures of gift shops. There is a thread on the Dis dedicated to gift shop pictures. I have to say…those are some of the most fun pictures I’ve seen! It’s almost as good as being at Disney! So I took out my camera and snapped away as the kids perused and “got ideas for things they might like to buy LATER in the trip!” They both would have loved to start the spending frenzy. But I’m mean and make them wait. Jay is in full agreement. We had a long stretch of vacation in front of us.

I loved saying that…reminding not only the kids, but myself that we had ten days in front of us. Vacation galore. Adventures to come! It was a thrill just to say it!

Clearly this was before Pal Mickey became scarce in stores! We love Pal Mickey!
http://i164.photobucket.com/albums/u12/CampbellScot/100_3076.jpg

This wall elicited a squeal from Sally! I believe it sounded like "ZAAAAAC!"
http://i164.photobucket.com/albums/u12/CampbellScot/100_3072.jpg

Jay finally announced it was time to get to it. He can only stand browsing for so long before he starts twitching! We needed to head to Magic Kingdom anyhow. Normally I’d have been chomping at the bit to get there, but darn that weather and wind. I was seriously afraid Teddy would get blown away if we didn’t strap him to us! It was dark and brooding out there!

I dragged my feet some as we made our way to the monorail. There were some really neat-o pop art pics adorning the outside wall of the gift shop. I’ve always been a “Mickey Parts” fan…does that sound weird?…it’s this stuff:

a handsome face!
http://i164.photobucket.com/albums/u12/CampbellScot/100_3079.jpg

cute cute cute!!
http://i164.photobucket.com/albums/u12/CampbellScot/100_3077.jpg

At one point Teddy grabbed my hand and said "MissCammie, aren't you coming?! We have to ride rides!! Here comes the Monorail!!!"

indeed.

http://i164.photobucket.com/albums/u12/CampbellScot/100_3035.jpg

We made our way up to the monorail platform and a quick clip and hopped on!

Sally sat between Jay and me and Teddy settled in the seat across from us. The monorail was strangely empty...just a few people here and there. Teddy thought "maybe the sun will come out when we get there, but it's okay if we get wet because we can run in between the drops!"

such an optimistic little thing is Teddy!

Sally gave a sigh and shook her head in a "My little brother is so naive" kind of way!:rotfl:

Teddy is trying to figure out how to "avoid" the rain drops...
http://i164.photobucket.com/albums/u12/CampbellScot/100_3086.jpg

As we pulled into the MK station, I handed out the ponchos and said a little prayer and gave Teddy strict instructions about hand holding!

and we were OFF!!

It wasn't actually raining all that hard as we made our way to the entrance. It was windy as all get out though.

Even so...the Disney magic did its work and suddenly it didn't matter a bit that it was dark and brooding outside, or that the wind was blowing mightily around us...we were here! We were fixin to take our first steps into the Magic Kingdom!

We had our bags searched, did our fingerprint thing and that was that.

We were IN!!!

Jay grabbed Teddy's hand and led the way through the little tunnel toward Main Street!

I seriously got chills. I'm such a sucker for that first glimpse. So is Sally. It's her favorite moment.

Sally took my hand and gave it a squeeze.

"There it is MissCammie! The Castle! It's pretty even if it's raining...right? It's still the castle."

She took her camera out and snapped a picture.

It's a little blurry...but it's still pretty...it's the Castle after all!!

and since I've used up my picture allowance, this is a good place to stop!

You and your ways of making me weepy. That Sally is such a little love. I think it's wonderful that you called to compliment Minnie. Not enough people do so I don't think. I bet she was really appreciative. :)

Teddy is such a hoot. I love the ways little boys' minds works, trying to make it all fit together. Did running "between" the raindrops work? ;)

I know Sally is close to my dd's age. (She'll be 10 next month.) What sort of camera does Sally use? Disposable? Digital? Fabulous update!!!

I'll tell y'all what...running in between rain drops does not work very well. :confused3

Sally uses a digital camera. It's a Canon Powershot. (one of Canon's new point and shoot line). Her cousin had gotten one and had allowed Sally to take some pictures with it. She was absolutely smitten! So she made a deal with Jay and when she saved enough allowance for half the price, he matched her. She was SO excited. Although the first few pictures were taken on the wrong setting hence the blurred castle!!! :rolleyes:It's a good camera overall. She'll use it for a long while!

Miss Cammie, that Minnie story just made me tear up. You might want to send an email to guest.services@disneyonline.com to tell them all about Minnie and Sally. If you have the date and time that would help them. It will go in her record. They LOVE those kind of stories. Put in your phone number and they will sometimes give you a call to talk to you about it.

I am long time reader of yours but I don't post much. Glad Sally is the super healer! You are using that scar stuff on her, aren't you? I mean to buy some for Megan's strep mark on her cheek that is supposed to go away, but I forget.

Howdy everybody!! Sorry this took so blasted long...I wrote an extra long chapter as penance for making everyone wait!

Happy Monday!!!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now where were we?

OH YES…we had just sloshed our way to Main Street and had our first magical glimpse of the Castle!!

Once we saw the castle, it didn’t matter a bit that it was raining. We had arrived at our favorite place in the whole world, we had ten full days ahead of us, no need to rush…so Sally and I took an extra heartbeat or two to soak in that first Heart-Castle connection! We were plugged in to the magic and ready to go!!!

Jay and I had decided against a kid transporter for the evening. We weren’t going to be putting in massive hours at MK this evening and we’d done plenty of sitting around in the afternoon, so we figured everyone’s legs were good and ready for some walking!

After our Castle gazing was done for the evening, Jay asked where we wanted to go first! Normally I’m the girl with a plan. I’ve got it all written down, the routes we will take and approximately how many footsteps we will take to get wherever we are going.

What?

That’s normal right?

*ahem*

Tonight however, I was attempting to fly by the hem of my sun dress if you will…

I gotta love my family b/c as soon as Jay asked where we wanted to go, every single head turned to me in unison and waited for instruction…

:lmao:

Nothing like a well trained family to give a girl a heart swell moment! I choose to look at this from a positive point of view…as opposed to a “wow, you are so controlling that your family doesn’t even attempt to make a decision without your say so…” Which is SO not true…

At all.

What?

It’s NOT.

Because I said so…

*ahem*

;)

Teddy was bouncing in his sandals and chanting “Buzz LightyearBuzzLightyearBuzzLightyear”

So that’s where we went.

It was a walk right on situation!

Sally immediately said “GIRLS TEAM!”, grabbed my hand and pulled me onto a spaceship! We were still in our ponchos…and rain was dripping down my legs…

But I didn’t mind.

Sally was rarin to beat the boys!

A change comes over Sally when we ride Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin…

She gets bossy…she starts telling me where to shoot and what to aim for and HOW to aim…

I swear y’all, she starts barking orders like “Pay ATTENTION WOMAN!” or “WHAT ARE YOU DOING?! DO YOU CALL THAT AIMING?! FOCUS! FOCUS! FOCUS!”

It’s a little intimidating.

So I do my best to aim and get as many points as possible.

All the while Sally is yanking that “spinning” controller left and right and we’re flopping around like rag dolls…which makes aiming a difficult thing to do!

I say very little on Buzz Lightyear. I’m trying to avoid getting dizzy and keep Sally happy.

Beyond the intense concentration of Sally's Spaceship, I can hear Teddy’s high pitched laughter behind us.

They’re a little more laid back in Teddy’s spaceship!

By the end of the trip through space I was about one more spin from barfing on my flip flops.

Sally was none too happy with our score…

She slapped me around with a look massive disappointment and said,

“MissCammie, our score was pitiful”.

:rotfl2:

At least she said “Our score” instead of pinning all the pitifulness on me!

She’s nice that way our Sally!

As we left the space ships, Jay came up behind me and said…”Did you see that Teddy and I made Cosmic Commando?”

“yes. How fabulous for you…”

“What did you get again hun? Was it Space Cadet?”

I nailed him with an eyebrow arch and said,

“What exactly are you implying with that question sir?”

He gave me that self satisfied grin that told me exactly what he was implying…

That I AM in fact a Space Cadet…

True as that may be, I found it necessary to step on his toe a little bit.

Thanks to his Keens and the stellar toe protection, I don’t think Jay really felt the pressure of my wrath.

:headache:

Oh well.

paybacks...always in the works...out of love of course...

*ahem*

On the way out I red-necked our pics…I will be thrilled when Disney finally turns all ride pictures into Photopass optional.

Dare to dream.

Anyhow…here we are!!

a bit blurry...but I was dizzy remember...
http://i164.photobucket.com/albums/u12/CampbellScot/100_3089-1.jpg

Jay looks SO serious!!
http://i164.photobucket.com/albums/u12/CampbellScot/100_3090-1.jpg

I took the obligatory pic of the kids in Space Jail as Teddy calls it.
http://i164.photobucket.com/albums/u12/CampbellScot/100_3091-1.jpg

We love our traditions!

While we were in space, the skies really opened up.

Like zero visibility opened up.

Teddy found this THRILLING!!!

Jay and I decided to take a powder room break.

Jay doesn’t call it that by the way. He wanted me to put that in here.

:thumbsup2

I took Sally’s hand and Jay took a firm hold of Teddy and we RAN.

Teddy squealed all the way!

We made it in one piece, powdered our noses right quick, and then stood under the over hang thingie waiting for the rain to let up!

we weren't the only ones waiting for the deluge to calm itself!
http://i164.photobucket.com/albums/u12/CampbellScot/100_3315.jpg

Once the pounding, scary, zero visibility rain eased up we headed toward Pirates of the Caribbean! Time for a little Captain Jack Sparrow action!!!

This ride was also a walk on. For some reason, even when the parks are packed and the skies are Carolina Blue…POTC always seems to be in a walk on state! We LOVE that!!!

We were not disappointed by our first visit to Captain Jack! I love this ride. I love the familiar smell that is unique to indoor Disney water rides. Mostly I love it b/c it’s full of what I call “Disney Déjà vu” moments…the kids say the same things every single time we go on this ride. Teddy points out the pigs cuddling with the man, Sally comments about how unsanitary that would be…Both kids laugh at the bare foot that dangles above our heads and how the hair on the leg is real human hair…which is also something Sally wrinkles her nose at…Sally always points out that the lady chasing the pirate with the broom is really “MissCammie chasing Daddy…” and the kids will laugh like they’d never heard that before…(Honestly, I’m not sure where she got that…I would NEVER chase my husband with a broom…)

I wouldn’t.

I swear.

Maybe a swiffer…but NEVER a broom.

:flower3:

Our first ride on POTC is always a homecoming kind of ride. We are comforted by the things we love staying the same…revisiting the happy feelings we left there on our last trip and reveling in that good feeling that comes with really *knowing* something.

Our final déjà vu moment is the parting shot of the dog with the keys and the man with the puffed out cheeks whistling…and how that sounds “JUST LIKE IN THE MOVIE!!!” Of course Teddy doesn’t know that the ride came first. He doesn’t care either. He just loves that he can be right INSIDE and up close to his favorite movie.

Yo ho Yo ho a Pirate’s life for me!

With that final bump into the boats ahead of us, we climbed up and out and head towards Sally’s FAVORITE ride at Disney…Big Thunder Mountain Railroad!!

The rain had really let up at this point. We were glad to be able to stroll and see as we made our way over.

Teddy was jumping up and down as we went in anticipation of the ride to come…or so I thought.

We got in the almost non existent line. We waited maybe a minute. Teddy and Jay were in front of Sally and me.

The line moved forward but Jay and Teddy didn’t move.

“Hey guys…shake a tail feather!!!”

They still didn’t move. Jay was talking to Teddy but I couldn’t hear what they were saying. Sally gave an impatient sigh.

Just I was about to give a very firm nudge forward, the boys got moving.

Jay looked back at me and I gave him a “what’s up?” look.

He sent Sally ahead and came back to me.

I was starting to get a little panicked. What on earth could have happened in that .5 seconds that caused the face Jay was wearing.

“What happened?!”

Jay didn’t say anything. He just raised his eyebrows. Sally was very close and she was listening with her super human hearing. It makes her incredibly anxious when grown up people are not following usual behavior patterns. She immediately assumes she’s in trouble and she’s going to listen as best she can to prepare for whatever is to come.

I don’t know WHERE she gets that…

*ahem*

Jay still wasn’t explaining. Which was annoying me to death. I need to know 10 seconds ago what the problem is so we can fix it.

I gave Jay a shake and said “WHAT is it?”

Before he could answer the train pulled up and we had to get on. I certainly could NOT spend the next minute or so NOT knowing what was going on. This was unacceptable to my controlling nature. And I was just going to have to deal with it. Which I hate.

QUACK!

Oh well…the ride was fabulous as usual! Sally was scream laughing the entire time. When we pulled back into the “station” Sally looked at me and said “I can’t even believe I was afraid of my FAVORITE ride. What was I thinking?!”

Precisely.

She can cross "My mean step mother made me go on a ride that I'd never gone on before so I was afraid of it..." off her list of grievances to discuss with a therapist someday.

*YAY*

As soon as we exited the train I planted myself firmly in front of Jay and said

“Spill it mister and I mean NOW NOW NOW!!!!”

I didn’t really say that…my eyes did…and that was enough!

Jay gave me a pointed look and said “Teddy fell in a puddle. His pants are wet.”

Wha?

“What on EARTH are you talking about? He didn’t fall…he was in front of me the whole time…he”

“Cam…his pants are WET…”

“How can they be wet he didn’t…oh”

Suddenly it was clear what Jay was talking about.

Teddy’s pants were wet.

He must have fallen into a puddle.

That’s our story and we’re sticking to it.

I looked over at Teddy. His little eyes were red and he was sniffling and looking fairly miserable. My heart went out to him. Poor kid. Falling into puddles is NOT fun.

*ahem*

I went over to him and gave him a big hug.

“It’s okay buddy. We’ll fix it.”

Teddy went and broke my heart by throwing himself against me and saying “I’m SORRY, I couldn’t help it…”

Broke. My. Heart.

I went into major “unplanned incident but will not derail us in any way” mode.

I certainly couldn’t let Teddy spend the rest of the evening in wet pants. We needed to get new shorts PRONTO! Going back to AKL was not an option b/c it’s so dang far away. Wilderness Lodge would have been doable without eating up too much time. I missed WL at that moment. (I was internally cussing myself for not planning for this possibility…I hate when something comes up and I don’t have an instant solution at hand. I do not like to scramble or have to rely on someone else to have what I need to fix whatever it is. Yes, I have a problem. But we know this…and we are fine with it…:thumbsup2 )

So the hunt for shorts small enough to fit a very slight Teddy was on. And oh great, it was pouring pouring pouring again too. Yay.

I took the lead, Sally took my hand and Jay and Teddy followed behind. We went into several different stores looking for shorts sized extra small. The smalls were just way too huge for Teddy. Of course nobody has an extra small.

So Jay took Teddy to check another store while Sally and I checked another.

We went into Agrabah Bazaar although I was not hopeful. I didn’t want to go all the way back to Main Street but I figured that was where we were heading. I should have counted on Eagle Eye Sal.

“MissCammie, I found some some shorts!”

Sally was holding up a pair of khaki shorts. They weren’t bedazzled or covered with any characters. Just normal looking khaki shorts. I took a look at them. They were swim trunks actually, but no matter. They’d work! Unfortunately they were size small.

Cuss words.

I decided to ask just to see if there was maybe some stock that wasn’t out. A very kind CM took a look at the shorts and said he’d check to see if he could find an extra small. I crossed my fingers and hoped for the best.

In the mean time, Sally had discovered the pin selection. Her eyes were big as plates. This was SO her thing. Sally is SUCH a magpie. Anything that is shiny captures her heart immediately! The price of the pins was not so much a cause for delight. I could see she was wrestling with herself as to whether or not she should buy a pin. She had two identical pins that had come with her lanyard. I reminded Sally that she could do a pin trade with one of the cast members.

She looked me like I had two heads.

“Do mean talk to that man. That I don’t know…”

“Yes ma’am that is exactly what I mean.”

“But he’s a stranger.”

“Yes technically, but I’m here and Daddy is here and we are giving you permission to talk to this stranger.”

“But I don’t know him…”

“Sally…remember how we talked about pin trading. And how you can collect pins as you trade for things you like better, or don’t have…remember that conversation? Okay well this is the part where you start trading. And this man over here is wearing a green lanyard which means he trades exclusively with kids…so you can talk to him…or maybe just start by asking to look at his pins…”

Sally loves the word “exclusive”. It means something special that not everybody can have. She loves that. It almost hooked her.

“Umm, MissCammie can you talk to him for me? I mean ask him for me?”

I raised an eyebrow at her.

“What do you think Sal?”

Sally exhaled a deep and long suffering sigh.

“If I don’t ask, I don’t get…”

“EXACTLY my love, so get to it kiddo! Let the pin trading fun begin!”

I know. I’m mean. Which is my job. :cool2: But seriously,Disney is the perfect place to practice talking to people you aren't related to and speaking up and asking for what you want without having to rely on someone to do it for you!

Yay Self Sufficiency!!!

Realizing that there was no way she was going to get out of this now, Sally squared her little shoulders, walked up to the CM (who had heard the whole conversation and was ready for her :lovestruc) and asked if she could please see his pins.

I was very proud of her!

He was so great with Sally. He drew her into conversation immediately. She was chitty chatting like she’d known him forever!

Disney Magic rocks!!

After careful consideration Sally’s very first pin trade was a Minnie and Daisy pin. They had arms around each other and I think something like “Girl Power” on the top. She made her trade like a pro! She thanked the CM and came over to show off her new pin.

“I really like this pin Sal! Great choice!!”

“I know. You like ducks a lot and I like Minnie Mouse a lot. They’re like you and me!”

“How so?”

“Well they’re BFF’s just like you and me. We’re BFF’s…”

That was quite a title. Sally didn’t use it often. I’d remind her of this the next time I was making her do something she really did NOT want to do.

The CM who had been looking for the shorts came out not too long afterward and guess what he was carrying…a pair of extra small shorts!!!!!!”

I did a little happy dance as he handed them over!

Then I looked at the price tag.

$26…plus tax.

:scared1:

These shorts had dang well better be able to something more than just be shorts.

I wasn’t trying to be Scrooge McDuck here…but twenty six bucks on shorts for a kid who grows out of stuff in like…two seconds…was a lot. I was more concerned with what Jay would say.

Oh well. There was nothing else we could do.

So I forked over the Discover card.

Cha-ching!

I called Jay and told him we’d found the golden shorts at the end of the rainbow.

When they arrived I handed over the shorts and cringed.

Jay surprised me by saying “That’s not bad for Disney!”

Well knock me over with a feather.

My family was surprising the holy heck out of me in more ways than one today!

Jay took Teddy to the bathroom to dry off and change.

They were back in no time and darn if the extra small shorts were still a bit baggy! Stringbean this child. Jay said there was a handy little tightening belt which was pulled as tight as it would go. But Teddy reassured me by saying,

“It’s okay MissCammie. They won’t fall off. We did a tug test!”

:lmao:

After all this running around and shorts hunting and pin trading I was feeling a bit parched.

Time for a Dole Whip!!!!

party:

Teddy gave me an oddly hopeful look and said,

“You mean I still deserve it?”

Oh. My. Holy. Broken. Heart.

The concept of “deserving vs. undeserving” had been introduced to Teddy this year in his Kindergarten class. He was still trying to figure it all out. I think I'm still trying to figure it out...it's a pretty subjective concept!

“Teddy of COURSE you deserve a snack! You did not do anything wrong. Accidents happen. It’s not the end of the world, you are not in trouble. We fixed it and we’re moving forward!”

Sally took the opportunity to say,

“Yeah Teddy, remember, let it go and keep moving forward!”

She loved it that this phrase was not directed at her!

We trekked over to Aloha Isle to collect our pinapple-y goodness! Oh my word the Dole Whip is HEAVEN! A Dole Whip is the official taste of vacation...the taste of Disney. Of course when I say Dole Whip I'm referring to the *float* variety! Love it love it love it!!!

Sally not so much. She was just as pleased with her vanilla ice cream with sprinkles as I was with my Dole Whip.

Teddy opted for chocolate ice cream with sprinkles. He tried Jay's Dole Whip and declared it "so good!!!" but he is a devoted chocaholic and very happy with his ice cream.

More Dole Whip for me then!

yeeHAW!!!

As we ate and got our sugar high on, Jay and I discussed what would come next. It would soon be time for WISHES!!!! We figured we had time for Carousel of Progress and maybe Space Mountain if the line wasn't long.

After everyone was cleaned up and sticky mess free, we headed over to our old friend "Carousel of Progress".

Gotta love the classics.

Teddy and Sally both sang along with the music. As always, Teddy laughed like a hyena at the man in the bathtub...and commented that the dog was looking at him. Disney Deja vu!

I breathed in the classic musty smell and remembered my first ride on the Carousel of Progress with Jay on our honeymoon...and right on cue, Sally whispered over to me "remember how you fell asleep on this ride the first time you rode it and how daddy had to wake you up when it was over?"

I do indeed remember Sally Rally.

We had a bit of an unexpected treat in that the ride got stuck on the second scene and we got to see it twice! Teddy thought that was SO cool!

I love how the kids love this ride so much. It captures their imaginations in a way that just won't let go! Teddy loves the scene with all the electrical wires and talks about that at random times during the year! For instance, we had family over for a Christmas party and we were cooking like mad and Teddy said, "MissCammie aren't you so happy that we don't have to have all those wires like in the Carousel of Progress? And how our lights don't go out when we plug things in?!"

Yes Teddy Bear, I am quite happy for that!

Who knew that Carousel of Progress was applicable to daily life?

gotta love that!

After it was over we decided to head over towards Fantasy Land and see if Peter Pan had a short line.

It DID!!!

We waved at Ariel and Wendy and all our favorites. I was sorry to leave Neverland. The rain was INSANE!!

As we headed out I reminded myself out loud that we were sure making the best of this rainy night!

Teddy gave me a big squeeze and said "We don't have to make the best of it because we are in the best place in the world! My favorite place! Even if it rains!

out of the mouths of babes!

It was just about time to head to main street and find a spot for Wishes!

WooHOO!!!

Just as we were walking through the castle a loud voice boomed out that Wishes had been canceled due to the weather...but to have a pleasant evening here at the Magic Kingdom...

:headache:

*sigh*

That was sort of it for us. It was raining SO hard and we had been hanging in there for Wishes. Now that there was no Wishes to be seen...Jay and I said in unison..."let's head out".

Teddy shouted,

"JINX! Daddy owes MissCammie a diet Coke!"

well YEEhaw for that! Because I was DYING for one!

We sloshed our way towards Main Street. Teddy delighted in wading through every puddle he could find. His crocs were already soaked...and they were crocs...so I just let him revel in his puddle joy.

Sally made a point of daintily stepping over as many deep puddles as she could. Which was a pointless endeavor as the rain was pounding down in sheets and her feet were soaked either way!

There wasn't a terrible crush of people like we usually encounter around this time...those people were all tucked snugly into their beds...only we weary but die hard few were out in this mess!

what can I say? We're hardcore.

:cool2:

Jay ran into one of the shops on Main Street and reappeared shortly after with a cold diet Coke!

He had a bag of pretzels for the kids as well.

Jay is good people. He always has diet Coke and snacks!

Our first evening at Disney was coming to a close. It had been wet and windy and a lot of fun! We had happy reunions and tears and drama and a frantic hunt...dang, we were better than a soap opera!

Sally turned and waved good-night to Cinderella's castle.

This was a great start. All I could hope for was sun tomorrow!

up next: Another day at MK with a surprising storm of Pixie Dust!!

Sounds like ya'll had a great night...even with the rain...which is one of the great things about WDW!

We've got a beautiful day here today too and I finally got to enjoy it after being in EOG he$$. I've been a test proctor at my SD's school for the past few days and today I was proctoring the 8th grade reading test. The kids in that class were a handful and I don't envy the teacher at all. I had to soothe my nerves by going immediately to Books-A-Million and browsing and then hitting Starbucks. I'm now drinking an ice cold Diet Coke and all is right with the world! And silly me has volunteered to be a test proctor at DD's school 3 days next week. Glutton for punishment I guess! LOL

Can't wait to hear more about your trip!

This is sort of a shorty drive by chapter with zero pictures...sorry about that. The next chapter is already in the works and it will be heavily picture laden...promise!!!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
When last we met the Campbellscots had just been informed that Wishes was canceled due to yuck weather.

Oh well. We’d be back tomorrow! And I’m sure we’d back the next night…and the night after that…maybe save one night for Illuminations…but mostly we’d end our days with Wishes if possible.

Because we love it that much!

Our wait for the bus was longer than we’d anticipated. Jay was not happy. Seriously…bus after bus would pull in for all the resorts around us…but no Animal Kingdom Lodge bus to be had. The kids were tired…our feet were wet…and we REALLY wanted to get back to our room. We’d been up since 4:30am.

Dog tired were we.

Within 10 minutes, Teddy was in Jay’s arms dead asleep.

FINALLY after FOREVER…the bus arrived. We weren't able to hop right on to the bus though. We had a bit of a wait to go b/c there was a lady on a scooter that had to be loaded first. She kept apologizing for causing a hold up. Poor lady. She looked embarrassed. We were just glad the bus had arrived. We weren’t complaining.

Other people sure did.

Loudly enough for Sally to hear…

There was a guy behind us with his girlfriend. They were yapping away about how annoying it is to have to wait for…and I quote…"lazy people who don't want to walk” to get loaded on the bus.

I had a very serious urge to turn around and knock their inconsiderate heads together. I mean REALLY. This poor lady was wearing a very complicated brace on her leg. I hardly think she was faking it b/c she didn't feel like walking.

But let me tell y’all…MY outrage was nothing compared to Sally’s!

The fact that she was tired and soggy and at her limit for rude people only added to her fire. Before I could say one word Sally whipped around and said,

“You aren’t supposed to make fun of people with special needs and you don’t have ANY MANNERS!!!”

That’s exactly what she said.:lmao:

sheesh...ask Sally to trade a pin with a stranger and she's dragging her feet...say something ugly about someone who is sick, injured, or in need of special assistance...Sally will kill you dead with a look! She's so like Jay.

Oh my goodness Sally was a sight to behold. Her eyes were bulged out of her head and her hands were clenched into fists of righteousness. I have absolutely NO doubt whatsoever that she’d have attempted major bodily harm had I not put my arm around her and held her back.

I’m not kidding y’all. Sally was ready to kill.

The rude guy rolled his eyes and the snotty girl he was with went a little valley girl and said,

“Omigawd…whatever. It’s not like she heard us…”

Oh good. That makes it okay. You are the kind of people fond of saying inconsiderate things about others as long as they can’t hear you. That’s class.

So I slapped them around with an eyebrow arch and said, “Well, we did hear you.”

Then I punched the guy in the gut and pulled the snotty rude girl’s hair.

Hard.

Not really…but I wanted to.

(we must NOT embrace violence…but it’s okay to envision it sometimes…:thumbsup2)

Before Sally had the chance to spring into attack mode, I turned her around and reminded her…perhaps for the 84,000th time, that we can’t control what other people say and how they behave. All we can do is control ourselves and the way we behave.

Sally’s response to that was, “I think they are the rudest people at DISNEY…except for smokers…”

:lmao:

Jay was having a bit of a laugh. With his arms full of a sleeping Teddy he couldn’t do much else.

His comment was “Did my wild warrior girls take care of business?”

:cool2:

Yes indeed we did!

Seriously...I have been after Sally to understand that being the "morality police" is never going to change the behaviors that vex her so. In fact, preaching at people tends to have the opposite effect...and it can be obnoxious. She's working on it...but sometimes a girl just has to speak up.

I was proud of her!

it's tough to have such deep convictions at the age of nine!

:rotfl:

FINALLY we got on the bus. Oddly enough, the rudest couple at Disney did not get on the bus with us.

:confused3

perhaps they were afraid of being in a small space with Super Sally.

I'd have been...

;)

Sally made a point to smile very sweetly at the lady on the scooter and say to her "We weren't mad for waiting. I hope your leg feels better."

OH that Sally and her need to right the wrongs of the world.

Love her for it.

This sweet lady told us that she'd had knee replacement surgery on both knees a while back and had planned the surgeries so that she'd be healed up in time for the Disney trip with her family. Unfortunately she developed an infection in one of her knees and had to have surgery again. This did not stop her from coming on this trip even though she wasn't healed enough to walk. Since she didn't want anyone to have to push her in a wheel chair she was braving a scooter so she could be in charge of herself.

Now that is my kind of lady!

We wished her a good trip and went to find our seats.

We were able to grab a seat near the back. I sat down and Sally plunked herself down on my lap, even though there was an open seat next to me. She’s done this as long as I’ve known her. I may have something else in my lap, or I’m working on the computer or just sitting reading a book, and Sally will come along and plop into my lap with no preamble whatsoever. Just “Here I am, make room for me!” I’ve learned to work around her for the most part. Of course the bigger she gets, the more difficult that becomes. She’s not trying to stop what I’m doing; she just wants to be on my lap while I’m doing it. Sometimes she’ll bring a book and read to herself quietly while I’m doing whatever. Sometimes she’ll sit for 5 minutes, sometimes for an hour if I let her. It’s a Sally thing. She just needs to connect with someone. In this particular instance she not only sat on my lap but attempted to curl up on it and go to sleep! As I’ve been accused of having “uncomfortable shoulders” I was surprised she wanted to try and use me as a pillow. She solved my bony shoulder problem by balling up her sweatshirt to pad her head. Always has a plan that girl.

She was asleep inside of five minutes.

It was at this moment that I thought of the lovely boat to Wilderness Lodge.

*sniffle*

Change is good.

*sigh*

When we finally arrived at Animal Kingdom Lodge I had the unfortunate task of waking the sleeping Sally. Thankfully Jay stopped me before I did. We swapped kids. I can’t lift Sally at ALL. She is a tall girl and solid. Jay put Teddy down beside me and lifted Sally into his arms. I picked up Teddy…who is also very tall for his age…and carefully made my way off the bus. We must have been a sight…Jay with his big girl and me with long limbs Teddy with his feet nearly down to my knees. The kids were so tired. Jay and I were exhausted as well and we both knew that it would be a lot faster to carry them to our room as opposed to trying to steer half sleeping kids through the hotel, down stairs, wait for elevators and trek down corridors. Better to heft them ourselves!!

I think too that Jay is realizing how little time he has left to lift a sleeping Sally. She isn’t a little girl any more. Jay and Sally have always been very close. When Sally was very little she spent more time with her daddy than anyone else. In light of Sally’s fast approaching young lady-hood, Jay is taking every last moment he can. It always chokes me up.

Like right now.

I am SUCH a sap.

Heading up the incline towards the doors was tricky. I don’t know how I managed it. Teddy was dead weight, totally passed out and making balance a difficult thing to achieve. I had to lean back to find the balance I needed to stay on my feet. Somehow I made it into the lodge. Jay kept calling back to me to be sure I was still in an upright position. We made it all the way to our room without dropping anybody. My arms ached like CRAZY the next day let me tell y’all what!

Jay put a very sleepy Sally down on the bed and I laid Teddy down next to her. Both kids had hit the wall. They were down for the count. Unfortunately for Teddy, he was having a bath before getting into his clean bed. With the falling in the puddle incident just a few hours before, a bath was in order. So while I was getting Sally into her PJ’s, getting her to brush her teeth with her eyes half closed and coaxing her up the ladder to her bed, Jay was giving Teddy a bath. That child didn’t wake up ONCE. Sleeping like a log.

Oh to be a child and capable of true and complete rest.

FINALLY everyone was clean and tucked into their beds.

WHEW.

Jay hopped in the shower first and I turned on the news to see Olympics coverage! I was glad that swimming and gymnastics was over before we came to Disney. I’m a bit of a fanatic about both. I really like Track and Field events…but they’re not as “must see” as gymnastics and swimming! Mostly b/c I've participated in both sports throughout my life. I can live vicariously!

When Jay was done it was my turn to get clean and hop into my pj’s and get myself into BED. We didn’t have an ADR in the morning, but we, meaning mostly me, wanted to be up and out by 9am!

I set out clothes for the kids, checked the park bag, added some things. Then I washed my face, brushed my teeth, obsessed about getting the counter top clean b/c I have a *thing* about toothpaste spit splatter that tends to happen with kids around...Teddy in particular...and I figured a good wipe down of the counter top with the clorox wipes wouldn't hurt!

is that weird?

what?

doesn't everybody do this?

*ahem*

After Jay hollered at me to quit obsessing...which is funny coming from him...hello Pot I'm Kettle...

I got into bed.

It was the end of our very first day of our 10 day vacation that we had been dreaming about for two years. I was a little bit teary as I drifted off to sleep...I was so happy to be here finally. It didn't matter that our room started off gross and smoke filled, or that we lost our Savannah view or that Wishes was canceled or that it was raining. We had actually made it through a year of happenings...of life...and here we were...safe and sound and healthy, all together.

I felt happy...and tired...and I couldn't wait to see what would happen next!

up next: A full day at MK and a Pixie Dust Storm!!

LOL at Sally telling those rude people what-for, she seems like such a great child with a special heart. I hear you on the "we cannot change others behaviour". I preach that to my 8yo all the time. She gets too serious and lets others behaviour ruin her time. It makes me sad, but like you - we're working on it.

Lugging sleeping children, I don't see how you did it. You are a strong woman MissCammie. I'd have toppled over I'm sure.

An update! :cool1::cool1::cool1:

I am taking a break from work and decided to click on the DIS and there is a Miss Cammie update!

Sorry you had to wait for an AKL bus! Hope transportation got better. We actually had great bus service when we stayed at AKL - we thought it was quicker than WL transportation in most cases.

Good for Sally - how rude those people were! How sweet of Sally to say something nice to the lady. My DD is very empathetic too and I hope she stays that way.

I can't believe Teddy slept through being carried, bathed and put to bed. That is impressive!

What great perspective you guys have to appreciate just being together at WDW and not letting the little bumps in the road get you down.

Looking forward to the next update!

Sally, YOU ARE MY HERO! THANK YOU!

As an ecv user with a 'hidden' disability, I've gotten used to the frowns and the not very well muffled comments. I wish more people spoke up like Sally.

Whew, all caught up! How did I get so behind?

That Teddy is Megan in little boy form! I was driving Jacob's class for a field trip yesterday when one of the girls asked, why are there little rocks and snail shells in the arm rest? Oh, those are Megan's treasures, Jacob replied.

You are hardcore, I couldn't imagine carrying dead weight sleeping kids around and bathing them too! Can't wait to hear what's next!

Just joining in. Loving your trip reports-I went back to find your old ones and am enjoying your WL trip now. I hope you enjoyed your AKL trip as much as the WL. I think AKL was my favorite resort so far that I have stayed at-although Beach Club was great for location.
Can't wait to read your next update. I think you will be working on 2 reports soon instead of just one.:thumbsup2

Your trip report as always is fun and fascinating to read. I always get my vicarious enjoyment from your trips!:cool1:
We just got back from a month long trip to Florida, 17 of the days were spent at WDW, 1 at Seaworld, 1 at Discovery Cove and we also took a 4 day Disney cruise and visited some relatives while we were in Florida! It was long, but fun and I want to be back there already!
So, reading your trip report brings back a little of that magic...
You are such a great writer as well and so easy to read.
Thnaks so much for sharing your trup with all of us!

Upon our last meeting I was just tucking my weary self into bed...

I was asleep for about 2 seconds before the sun came up.

I swear.

That’s what it felt like.

That first contact between foot and floor the morning after your first day always hurts. I think it’s part of being on a plane, and walking at a Disney pace for the first time since our last visit. That Disney pace can be a killer! My arms also hurt thanks to Teddy’s dead weight. Basically I woke up achy and whiny.

Thankfully Jay had a diet coke ready! Sally sat up as he was bringing it to me and reminded him not to shake it! LOL She’ll probably do that for the rest of her life!

Of course Jay had to give my diet coke a pretend shake…and I had to make veiled threats about bodily harm….and Sally had to SHRIEK “DADDYYYYYYYYYYYY”.

Just your average start to a Disney day in the Campbellscot world!

Teddy was peeking out from under his blankets at us.

So I pretended not to see him as I sat down on his body. I loudly complained that this was a VERY lumpy bed.

A muffled “Because you’re SITTING on a boy MissCammie!” came from under the blankets

:lmao:

Oh my goodness, I WAS sitting on a boy. However did I miss him?

Silliness over, it was time to get everybody ready to get moving for the day! I fired the kids through the shower at lightening speed and told them to get dressed ASAP! I put some cheerios boxes on the table to ward off any tummy rumblings...and as an incentive to get dressed swiftly as the cheerios were to be eaten AFTER getting dressed...fully and completely...Teddy.

*ahem*

While they were doing that I hunted down my husband…who was on the phone…already.

I nailed him with a *get off that phone this INSTANT* look and he smiled sweetly in response.

He thinks that works...deflecting my wrath with a darling smile.

so doesn't work.

Grrr.

Oh well. I had no choice...

I took Jay's phone out of his hands and yelled “STOP CALLING US” into it and then I threw it to the ground and stomped that wretched little cell phone into oblivion.

That solves that.

*ahem*

Okay not really, but I was fixing to. Jay held up five fingers to indicate how many more minutes he’d be on. I held up two and told him not to cross me or else…

then I gave him a sparkling smile of my own!

I boss because I love...

it's true.

Finally Jay got off the phone and he ran into the bathroom to get dressed.

Funniest thing EVER…I had laid out a pair of khaki shorts and a red “sweat tech” tee for Teddy. Imagine my surprise when Jay emerged from the bathroom wearing the grown up version of the exact same outfit!

http://i164.photobucket.com/albums/u12/CampbellScot/100_3096-1.jpg

Gotta love that “Dad and Lad” look! Especially when it is completely unplanned. It’s that ESP thing.

Sally and I were NOT wearing matching outfits. But we DID coordinate!

With everyone dressed and teeth brushed and hair brushed, it was time to move out! We headed down to Mara for breakfast. The kids had already munched on little boxes of Cheerios, but I wanted to make sure bellies were good and full!

The weather was being most uncooperative. Rain.

quack.

I got the kids some eggs and fruit, which they inhaled. I made Jay sit down and eat some eggs himself as he turns into a total grouch if he doesn’t have food in his belly. I had some Nutri-grain bars in my bag to hand out just in case!

Before heading down to the bus we stopped in Zawadi Marketplace to ask about “real” rain coats. The ponchos had been absolutely useless the day before. It was the wind that did it. We had noticed the night before that roaming CM’s had lovely little raincoats…the same kind of material as the ponchos, but they were real coats…with sleeves and buttons and hit about knee level! Now those would be handy!

Unfortunately those kinds of rain coats are not sold at Disney World.

Drat.

Oh well. Ponchos it is.

We exited the marketplace through the doors heading down to the buses. Unfortunately we still had to troop through that smoke. Sally didn’t even bother trying to preach. She just covered her face and RAN!

go Sal! Way to problem solve!!!

Thankfully the bus to Magic Kingdom didn’t take forever to arrive. It only took half of forever. Luckily it arrived before steam started coming out of Jay's ears! We hopped on and had a very cozy and uneventful ride to the park!

It was going to be an interesting day…forecast called for a break in the rain with showers “at times”…which was a far cry from the direst of predictions I had gotten reading weather threads.

(Jay pointed this out...several times.)

That being said, upon arrival to the Magic Kingdom the weather was a bit...erm...breezy shall we say...

http://i164.photobucket.com/albums/u12/CampbellScot/100_3104.jpg

Okay, well the weather DID look pretty ominous now but I was keeping a positive attitude. I was going to use The Secret! I was going to WILL the weather into niceness.

I’m powerful that way.

it's a gift...

:wizard:

Dad and Lad and Sally heading towards the gates!

http://i164.photobucket.com/albums/u12/CampbellScot/100_3107.jpg

My bag caused the first hold up of the day. It was pretty well packed and organized. Which meant I had to unpack and UNorganize it for the search. It had a lot of stuff...including four ponchos, precisely folded by Jay! I had a lot of stuff in there. I'm not very good at packing light. I will fill any bag I carry. I can't help myself! I was glad no one was behind me until the guard finished checking things out!

The second delay of the day was a result of my finger print not scanning. Seriously, I had to "re-try" 84,000 times.

The CM standing there kept saying "Oops...try it again...one more time..." this went on and on and on. Good GRAVY lady! Here's my room key card, my passport, a vial of blood...may I PLEASE come in now?!

FINALLY another CM came over to rescue me with "It's fine, you can come through..."

about time...

*harrumph*

just kidding...

sort of.

as I was joining my family I heard "Oops...try it again!" behind me. Okay clearly...the machine is NOT well. It's not working...and the definition of insanity is repeating a behavior over and over expecting a different result.

it's true.

Once we made it through the tunnel, Sally and I soaked in our dose of Castle magic...ahhhh...nothing like a good long look at Cindy's Castle to start the day off on a good note!!

We decided to forgo the "Kid Transporter" for today at least. The cost of renting these things was getting a little OUT of control. We decided that we'd get a kid transporter if it seemed like the kids would need it. (I know, shock of shocks...we get a kid transporter for kids that are over the age of three...and we will continue to do so as long as we have a kiddo who is known to faint dead away out of the blue in response to fatigue combined with the tiniest bit of dehydration...the kid transporter has eliminated that issue for us thus far. As long as he can fit, he can ride. Same for Sally. Period. End of Story! :) )

As I was saying...we'd try out their legs and their little constitutions today and see how they did. This was a little risky for me considering my extreme allergy to whining.

what?

it's true.

hives and everything.

seriously.

*ahem*

We decided to head into the shops on Main Street...b/c it was soggy and wet outside and the kids were feeling browsy. Fine with me...I'm all about the browsing and hopefully while we wandered around inside the outside would stop raining!

Jay went all 007 on us and disappeared for a bit. Sometimes that man gets a bee in his bonnet about something and he takes off.

Man of mystery.

:cool2:

I was very content to get my Disney browse on! Absolutely entranced by acres of shopping potential! We started at the end near the fire station and moved forward from there.

Sally made a beeline to a rack of pins!

http://i164.photobucket.com/albums/u12/CampbellScot/100_3111.jpg

this would be a recurring theme...Sally could look at pins all day long. We had so created a pin trading monster!

I found this display to be particularly clever!!
http://i164.photobucket.com/albums/u12/CampbellScot/100_3114.jpg

Teddy was mesmerized by a large wall of games and action figure type sets. It's so cute how Teddy stands exactly like Jay when he's contemplating something!
http://i164.photobucket.com/albums/u12/CampbellScot/100_3134.jpg

Oh how I love to browse. I flit from place to place, taking in all the colors...noting the most adorable princess dresses that Sally is too big to wear but I would LOVE to see her in...I imagine a kitchen full of Mickey Parts utensils and cups and bowls and pot holders...and how much it would annoy Jay after a week:lmao:...I look at all the scrap book odds and ends...and magnets and picture frames and tees and beach towels...I just love it!!!

Sally and Teddy were right there with me. We were already having a blast, rain or NOT!

As I was looking through the selection of photo albums I was suddenly enclosed in a very strong pair of arms and heard "You have too many of those Cam..."

my response was,

"Captain Jack is that you? My husband will be here any second so kiss me quick before he catches us!!!"

:rotfl2:

I tease because I love.

I was punished with fingers digging into my sides (which causes me to yelp and screech in a most unladylike way) and a very loud zerbert on my cheek.

Well REALLY...we ARE in public...let us avoid rude noises if at all possible!

;)

Teasing aside, I turned to find that my darling husband was wearing a black Disney backpack with a drawstring top and a flap that closes over the top. Wow. Gotta love a man in a Disney backpack!!!

http://i164.photobucket.com/albums/u12/CampbellScot/100_3136.jpg

Really though, Jay is a doll. He wanted to lighten my load and he knew if he had offered to do so I'd have been my normal stubborn self and insisted I was fine and could carry all...including Jay and the kids on my shoulders if need be.

what?

I can.

if I want to...

I CAN.

*ahem*

So Jay went rogue and made up his own mind. Tricky tricky that husband of mine!

He also bought a pin set with nine little Disney "cuties" pins. He wanted the kids to have a selection of pins to trade! Sally was THRILLED. Jay doled them out to the kids. He had given Sally a Donald pin and she said in a very matter of fact voice,

"Oh, well Daddy that's Donald. He needs to be on MissCammie's pin holder because Donald is her favorite."

Teddy chimed in with,

"Yeah...because MissCammie wants to keep it and she would feel sad if it got traded!"

:lmao:

I tried to insist to the kids that I wouldn't mind a bit if they traded Donald and that was what Daddy got the pins for.

But they wouldn't hear of it...and giving me one pin made it an even split for the kids and oh my how important it is to have an even split whenever possible!

So Donald was attached to my pin lanyard...under my honeymoon pin and above another grouchy Donald pin sent to me by a fellow Diser.:lovestruc

We were ready to trade in earnest!

But first we needed to get some rides under our belt!!

The rain had stopped for the time being and we needed to maximize our dry time!!!

So we headed on out in search of adventure!!!

I will never get tired of pictures like this...dad and daughter...
http://i164.photobucket.com/albums/u12/CampbellScot/100_3138.jpg

Teddy stayed back with me and we strolled along quietly, taking it all in.

Teddy looked very thoughtful as he held my hand.

"MissCammie...are we kinfolk?"

:lmao:

"We are indeed Teddy Bear..."

"I thought so. And BJ (our dog) is kinfolk too right?"

"Yes Teddy..."

"and what about Chubs because even if he's a hamster we still love him so he's kinfolk too right?"

"yes Teddy..."

Oh my how this child cracks me up with his random recall. Teddy had been introduced to the word "kinfolk" earlier this summer. We had been to visit some of my family in Texas. My cousin KC is as Southern as a Southern man can be. He is cowboy hats and cowboy boots and wranglers and button down shirts. He's a Good ol' Boy. He uses words like "kinfolk" regularly. Teddy had been fascinated by these Southern words he had not heard before. He found it terribly amusing that KC referred to my Diet Coke as "soda water". That's how KC refers to any carbonated beverage. KC is an experience for sure.

anyhow...it appears "kinfolk" was rolling around in his head today!

Teddy and I caught up with Jay and Sally. Both kids wanted to ride Pirates again!

All I said was "No argument from me"...and Jay gave me a look...wiggled his fingers menacingly...

what?

I like the dog part...

I do.

Captain Jack has nothing whatsoever to do with it...

much.

;)

On the way Jay wanted to get a picture of the kids and me in front of the castle. urgh. I like to be the takER...not the takee...

I had to make it small. I was most unphotogenic in that moment...
http://i164.photobucket.com/albums/u12/CampbellScot/100_3148.jpg

Picture behind us it was time to ride.

We found it every bit as thrilling as we had the night before!!

Teddy was equally thrilled with the dump shop as we emerged from the ride. He's been VERY into the whole pirate thing this year...like every other kid in America! Jay and I let the kiddies browse as they pleased. There was a lot to look at!!

Teddy is trying to convince Jay that pirate guns are different from other guns...and Jay is saying to him "Son, you better put that down before your wicked step mother sees you with it!"
http://i164.photobucket.com/albums/u12/CampbellScot/100_3164.jpg

I don't like guns as toys. At all. Guns are weapons. They do not belong in the hands of children. That's just how I feel about it. Not trying to preach. I just don't like guns. At all.

But that's just me.

I'm not being judgmental.

I'm NOT.

I swear.

Just rigid.

*ahem*

Teddy sure did put that gun down in a hurry when he caught a glimpse of me moving in his direction...then he gave me a very impish little grin as he picked up a sword and waved it with great flourish over his head...

stinker.

He won't be taking that home as a souvenir either.

I'm bossy that way.

part of the wicked step mother gig.

Sally was looking at sunglasses and bracelets. She found a very odd pair of 80's inspired I don't know what they are called glasses. She gave me a "What are these?!" look. So I found a pair of my own and we put them on!

I love the tag in my face. Jay doesn't consider these things when he's picture taking. He just grabbed the camera and *snap* tag in front of my nose...oh well. I'm not sure I would have looked any cooler sans tag!
http://i164.photobucket.com/albums/u12/CampbellScot/100_3171.jpg

A very strange thing happened while we were Pirate browsing...a patch of BLUE SKY APPEARED!!!!

yes...I took a picture of blue sky...such was my joy!!
http://i164.photobucket.com/albums/u12/CampbellScot/100_3172.jpg

The Secret DOES work...with some Disney magic mixed in!!

wooHOO!!!

After Pirate browsing we strolled a bit and found our way to The Swiss Family Robinson Tree House!! The kids love this. The first time they visited the tree house they had not seen the movie. I sat them down and we watched the movie not too long before THIS trip. Teddy LOVED making the connections between the movie and what he was seeing. Now that Teddy reads, a whole new world has opened up for him. He was positively giddy when he found the older brother's rooms and read their names! He chattered on about all the animals he'd seen on the movie and how cool it would be if there were ostriches in the tree house so we could pet them and feed them seeds...

oh Teddy...:rotfl:

You would NOT find your wicked step mother holding out her hand to an Ostrich to feed it seeds! Those things will rip your fingers off! My dad had Emus on his ranch for a while...three broken ribs and a broken wrist later he gave those birds their marching orders! They are outrageously strong...and stubborn...and they like to get out of their enclosures...and they swing their heads around and whap people in the chest...which feels like someone took a baseball bat to your sternum. No thank you. Emus are no where near as big as Ostriches...so I can only imagine how much more ornery an Ostrich can be!

where was I?

oh yes...Swiss Family tree house!

Teddy got as far as the second rung before Jay and I chorused out "Far Enough Teddy!" Can't be too careful with a boy who will jump! You never know what impulse might take hold of that child's senses!

http://i164.photobucket.com/albums/u12/CampbellScot/100_3187.jpg

So far our first day was going well!! The rain had stopped, a patch of blue appeared and there was a promise of sun!

since I've used my picture allowance I will stop here!

up next: Captain Hook and a WALL of PINS!!!!

I'm first. :woohoo::yay::woohoo::yay: Waking up at 7 on a Saturday to work on a term paper pays off some time. :rotfl:

Anyhoo, I was in Target a few months ago--and what did they have on sale? The CM rain suits. I bought 2 and tossed them into the Disney bag at the top of my closet. The poncho so did not cut it last August with all that rain. They even have the pants. I'm prepared next time there's a NorEaster on Thanksgiving morning. It'll be the rain pants under the parade prison jump suit.

And I adore your shop pictures Miss Cammie. Disney so knows how to merchandise a store. I'm in professional envy even walking into rinky dink World of Disney in NYC.

Hey all!!!

Thanks for all the good wishes! We are ready and rarin to GO!!

We're just doing the last this's and that's before we head off. When printing our boarding passes this morning I was made aware that continental now charges $15 per 1rst checked bag, per person, one way. :scared1::mad: The airlines sure do get you coming and going. Jerks.

That wasn't the only pre-vacation drama...oh no...Jay had to go and make things super interesting by taking a medication he knew nothing about (OTC) and it ended up giving him a rash...which led to him taking Benadryl...which he said didn't effect him "at all"...

just moments ago he awoke from a benadryl induced FOUR HOUR nap...and he's still stumbling around in a bit of a stupor.

Hopefully he'll be in top form when we hear the alarm at 3:30am.

It wouldn't be us if we didn't have some start of vacation drama!!

Hope the sun is shining for everyone!! If anyone is at Disney while we are, make sure to say howdy!!

Can you give us a little teaser....like where are you staying this time and how long will you be enjoying the House of Mouse? Have a fabulous time.

Hey all!!! We're baaaaaaaaaaaack!!!!

Oh my word how I love DisneyWorld!!! We had such a wonderful time!! I did bring home a cold...which really isn't a fun way to end a vacation. Jay got sick at the start of the vacation...we had to miss dinner one night such was the severity of his illness. Poor baby. But it only lasted about a day and then he was back on track!

oh and a wild scooter driving woman ran over and bloodied the back of my heal while shouting "MOVE!! I'M IN A SCOOTER!!!" whilst we were all in a HUGE crowd of people and couldn't move an inch...so she took it out on my heal. I would have gladly moved had I been able to do so. Not a very nice lady. She didn't say sorry when Jay pointed out that she had just bloodied his wife...she just said "Well I'm in a scooter..." Oh. Of course. The next time I want to beat someone up I'm going to be in a scooter when I'm doing it and when the police arrive I'm going to say "Well I'm in a scooter...:confused3 what? I'm not responsible...I'M IN A SCOOTER!" Then I'll run the cop over! No rules when one is in a scooter...

other than that there wasn't a lot of other blood loss.

:rotfl:

we had so much fun!!

It was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO hot y'all. Hot hot hot!!! Too hot almost. Even for native Floridians! The weather channel said it was "unseasonably hot". No kidding! It's not usually that hot in August even!

I can't wait to go in January!!!

OH and we got to ride Toy Story Mania THREE TIMES!!! Seriously, most fun ride EVER. Jay and I really loved it! We're dorks that way.

How is everyone? Anything fabulous happen while I was away?

hope all is well!!!!

I'll be writing writing writing soon...after I finish the MOUNDS of laundry. Ugh.

Hey Miss Cammie it looks like we were there at the same time! It was extremely HOT! We have gone the last week of August and this was hotter. We were there from 6/16 through 6/23. It still was loads and loads of fun. But we did make sure we took mid day breaks and swim in the pool. Sounds like you had an awesome time as well. I too am looking forward to going during a different time of year next trip the summer time heat really wears you down. I miss the magic already.

Can't wait for your next installment.

Welcome home Cammie! Yes, it was HOT and very unseasonable. I think we overlapped a day and we were lucky to have a few days at the end of ours a bit more average for FL in June.

I'm SO sorry everyone for being such a complete TR slacker! I had no idea this summer was going to be as out of control busy as it has been. I told Jay last night that I needed to schedule time in my day to sit and write some! We were going over some of the Flip Cam stuff from our trip last night and reminiscing...:lmao: We are dorks that way. :3dglasses

I haven't forgotten about my TR and I am going to get my writing groove on...as soon as I have a moment to put some coherent sentences together!:thumbsup2

Bibbidi--YAY for running!!! It's oddly addictive, be forewarned! The hunt for the perfect running shoe was an intense one let me tell you! :laughing:I am SO excited for the Donald!!! I mean come ON...a Donald Duck medal?! WooHOO!!! The ultimate Donald Prize!!!:cool1:

Which race is it that gives you the Donald medal? Oh, and which shoe did you finally decide on? I am looking into the Ascis (sp?) Gel you were talking about. There was an article in the last Runners World that compared the Gel to a different, less expensive model and showed what your extra $$ went to when you upgrade--pretty neat. Yes, the running has become an addiction--I used to only run for a purpose--like after a ball in field hockey, or away from a scary stranger---but now I find myself getting out of bed to hit the pavement at 5:45 am - what has happened to me???

Sorry for the tangent--back to Miss Cammie's fabulous TR :)

You are a rockstar!!! I have to see if I can survive the half before I contemplate the full! I must admit...I am very covetous of that Goofy Medal!!!:scared1: I might just be insane enough to try it...:3dglasses I'm sure I'll be cheering on the full marathon crowd! Y'all are HARDCORE!!!

The Donald Half Marathon is the race that gives you the Donald Medal! January 9, 2010!! You can google pics of all the medals for the marathon weekend in January!

I decided on the Asics Gel Nimbus 11. I have a neutral gait so I don't need a stability shoe. I don't over pronate or supinate. These are things you find out when you go to a fancy just for runners sneaker store and get a very in depth study done on your feet...which was kind of funny and weird...but informative!

Anyhow...So far I absolutely LOVE the Nimbus 11!! They are so cushy and supportive...and they just look so darn flashy and professional!:rotfl:

Jay went with Mizuno. Wave Runner I think? Something with a wave.

we're having a blast so far!!!

have a great weekend everybody!!!
