I mentioned this in another thread.

Last week my aunt and I stood out on the deck at CR and looked over BLT. We were wondering what that circular part of the building at the top would be and now I'm assuming that's the lounge. DA mentioned that the circular design was like revolving restaurants we've been in and I'm thinking - wouldn't that be awesome?

So, do you think the lounge will revolve?

Mike...just curious, is that based on looking at the construction photos or just thinking that Disney wouldn't go to that expense?

The only reason I ask is because it might make sense to have it revolving so that everyone who comes up to the lounge doesn't end up "fighting" for the one side of the room.

I have no idea if it will revolve, but it would make their life easier and the lounge more appealing if it did.

After all, it is part of the Contemporary resort, right? ;)

True it would be very contemporary if it would revolve, however, if it were to spin, it would have to go very slow, a la Garden Grill. It would be quite a disaster if people were drinking and it moved fast enough to give everyone a view of the fireworks.

That said, if they would turn the spinning effect off during the fireworks, that could work. Personally, I don't think they will make the Top of the World Lounge revolve, not matter how cool it would be.

JMHO but I think it would lead to nightly battles among guests. Those who are being rotated out of position would be shuffling their feet, trying to hold their ground. Meanwhile those moving into position would want to do just that.

Hopefully they will create several levels so that many people can get a good view. The structure looks rather tall. I've visited baseball stadiums that had lounges or restaurants which overlook the field. They are built so that as you move away from the glass, each level rises up 3-4' to give everyone a pretty equal view. Something like that would be ideal.

I'm guessing this will be a sit down lounge, so people are not going to be standing up and moving about to change views. These types of revolving lounges used to be very popular, and given that the whole contemporary motif is actually a bit retro, I wouldn't be surprised at all if they did this.

As another poster said, if it did revolve it would revolve very slowly. Guests would get a very short view of the fireworks before rotating out of position and would spend most of the time looking out the sides or back of the lounge instead. Plus they'd constantly be turning and shifting position to maintain at least a bit of a view of the fireworks. I think that would be a disaster.

I think it's more likely that you'll see the viewing area arranged in tiers (like the pre-shows of the Tiki Room or Stitch) to allow the maximum number of guests the opportunity to see the fireworks.

Just looking at the construction photos posted here on Dis. It's easy to see that the required superstructure to "spin" the lounge isn't there.

I don't know anything about construction, it just looks kinda separate to me from the rest of the building.
