Hello Fellow Cruisers!!
Well......Unfortunately I must take our family off the list for the FE exchange. Things have not been going too well financailly for us. We almost canceled our whole trip but my mom and I decided that this will probably be the last big vacation for a long time so we're gonna do it! So we really need to cut back on any extra spending. I'm bummed but I hope I can still meet everyone!!!
My daughter is 9 also and it would be great to have these girls meet and hang out while we are cruising.
I'm excited!!

We got our room assignment today. We were upgraded from a 12 GTY to category 10. This could be a problem . This could be an upgrade from He**!:rotfl:
Now to give you the story...My best friend and I are taking our 2 boys on a cruise together. They are both chronically ill and both suffer terminal illnesses. One uses a wheelchair/ scooter for endurance and from fatique or disease flareup. We couldn't get an accessible room.
Today our cabin assignment was for#2653. Deck 2 and as far aft as you can get and over the motors!:scared1:. Reviews say when docking or departing you get thunderous noises and earhtquake sensations which begin as early as 3 am and end around 7 am or when the ship docks. :scared1:
These two boys will need rest after a long day of play and adventure. This would surely wake them with a start and scare the crap out of them as we are inside with no window...
Should I be concerned? Any options available for us?
Thanks
Charleyann:santa:
Hi Charleyann,
How funny is this - we were assigned room 2652, which I think is right across the hall from you!
Our category 12 was upgraded to a category 9, which looked GREAT until I read your review about the noises. Actually, I was fairly happy that we were not around a lot of other rooms due to our youngest son's special needs, and the possibility that he has a 'meltdown' and we have to stay in the stateroom with him until he calms down (which can take an hour or more at times).
Mom & Dad (Mike and Susan Canty) were assigned room 7009 - just about as far away from our room as possible! I think they may be secretly happy about that.

Well I see that DCL has started assigning GTY cabins at the 45-day mark. That’s a good thing. We’ve updated the lists to reflect the changes posted in the last couple of days. We’ll keep checking for updates and we will probably post the first maps sometime this week (for those that will start traveling very early). Sorry to see some folks have had to drop out of the F/E, but everyone should still have a great cruise. Disney would expect nothing less.
Here’s the current F/E list. When we here from the last few groups about cabins, we’ll post the final version and all the accompanying documents. Check your reservations and let us know if there are any changes.

We booked with DU. TA said she is doing everything. Disney are the ones being miserable / unwilling to help!
I swear they are losing, what was once good customer service. It seems it doesn't matter to them what they do wrong...because someone else will come along and buy their product. They are just too big now!
This will be our last cruise with Disney. I like the service on Carnival much better. They actually work with you and not against you! Their prices are reasonable and they offer more ports!
STill going to make the best of this cruise . I know I'll love Nassau and Castaway Cay!

We just got our Cabin Number. I guess we are really going. :goodvibes:
2026 mcl Katie & DD:Dilara (13)
I signed Dilara up for "the Wild Side." I do hope she makes friends and has a good time. Meanwhile, DOM (dear old mom) will choose something a little less "active," possibly a manicure.
Still undecided about an excursion in Nassau. We've done "dolphin swims" and are looking for something different. Any suggestions?

This may be the final F/E list. We have cabins for nearly all of the participating groups. We will continue to monitor the thread and keep everyone apprised of changes, but for those that are starting to travel in the next few days, this should be a real good start.

Here’s a printable image of the current F/E Ship’s Map for the 12/20/2009 sailing of the Disney Wonder. The cabins participating are highlighted in “DIS Green”. In this scale it’s a little hard to read the cabin numbers, but with the included cabin list, this should give you a real good idea where everyone is located as your walking around the ship. We can also email you the original Word Document that this image was created from if you want to PM us an email address. If someone would like to volunteer to print copies to bring and hand out at the DIS-Meet, just let us know.
If we receive additional changes for cabin assignments we’ll update the image and repost.

Just in case anyone's interested.... I happened to be in Macy's today doing some Christmas shopping. They've got a Mickey Sailor stuffed animal (aka: plush) with a travel alarm clock for $15!! The Mickey talks, too. I can't remember what it says, because I'm hiding it in the trunk of my car!:santa: But I think he says Merry Christmas. Just wanted to share! Way too excited! Funny how we both have special needs children and were placed over the engines and as far back as possible!!!!
It is great though to have a fellow diser beside us. You got a window at least!!!!
Have a great cruise!!!

Thanks for the update! :thumbsup2 That may be the last cabin number we need.
I see that they got one of the forward Cat-11s on the “Secret Hall Way”. We stayed in 6317 on the Magic this past summer and it’s a great location. There is not a lot of ships motion when your sleeping. These cabins are also very quiet and the traffic is pretty low because not many folks realize that there is a hallway hidden back in there.
Thanks again for the info. We’ll repost the list and maps in a little bit. Have a great cruise!

We just got the last GTY cabin number for the F/E list. Unless someone else joins in between here and the 29th, this should be just what everyone needs to pull off a successful Fish Extender Gift Exchange. We really wish we were going along with y'all.
Just for giggles,;) if someone wants to (and we mean only if you really want to) and has any extra F/E “stuff”, leave a little something hanging on the fish or the door handle of Cabin #2035 and include a note telling them that the folks who were originally going to be in that room hope that they are having a “Wonderful” cruise and wish them a Merry Christmas. You can include the DIS website address and your and our DIS-Names so that they can try to look us up on the boards if they want, and if not, then it would just be a nice little extra for their cruise.
Well, enough of that, here’s the updated F/E list (and we'll republish the updated map in the next post):

Does anyone have suggestions for tip amounts for the stewards, wait staff, etc? I read somewhere that the staff really appreciate phone cards, too, so I'm trying to plan ahead and have our "envelope" money and gift cards ready to go...
This is our first cruise, so we'd love any advice some of you veterans may have.
Thanks!
NatdelPozzo,
My daughter and I went on a 3-day Disney cruise in 2008. We received a tip recommendation and I followed it exactly. I believe our total (for 2 adults) was between $70 and $75. We were able to stop by the main desk, put the tips on our credit card, and they gave us vouchers to give to the steward, server, etc. Hope that helps.

Here’s a great link to a good cruising tip calculator.
http://cruisetip.tpkeller.com/
Just fill in the parameters and it will figure the average total for your specific cruise line.
The most common suggested tips on DCL are: $4.00 per person per day for your steward, $4.00 per person per day for your dining room server, $3.00 per person per day for your assistant server and $1.00 per person per day for your head server. You can always add more (or less) depending on the level of service you receive from each individual. Phone cards are welcome, but cash is more versatile (especially since the advent of cell phones).

You are correct. :thumbsup2 The F/E Exchange is officially set as of today. Just as a reminder for everyone who joined in, here’s the official list (and I’ll repost the map in just a bit as well). Also remember that we can email all our related spreadsheets and/or a copy of the original ship’s map for this F/E to any one that wishes to send us a PM with their email address.
And so, with out farther ado…

Here’s the official printable image of the current F/E Ship’s Map for the 12/20/2009 sailing of the Disney Wonder. As before, the cabins participating are highlighted in “DIS Green”. In this scale it’s a little hard to read the cabin numbers, but with the included cabin list, this should get you around the ship. We can also email you the original Word Document that this image was created from if you want to PM us an email address.
Please take lots of pictures and post a few back here. We’d love to sail along with everyone and pictures are as close as we’ll get this time around. We hope you all have a fabulous cruise and a Wonderful Holiday.

Our Fish Extender is finished!
2.5 more weeks until we leave for Orlando! The kids know now, and are starting to get excited! DD8 spent most of the weekend making lists of everything she needs to do on the cruise. I think #11 was 'try not to fall overboard'. :rotfl2:
I think our FE gifts are done, and have started printing out schedules and other documents. I'm working on a pictorial schedule for DS5 and hope that it will help with some of his anxiety issues. Still haven't started making magnets yet, though. Gotta get moving on that...
This is exciting!! :santa:

Come on everybody!!!! Get excited with me!!!!:rotfl:

I hope I haven't missed you, Charleyann. I've been so busy with work I just haven't found time to come on here. :sad2:
Have a wonderful cruise ~ it sounds so exciting :yay: :yay: :yay: then enjoy your week at Disney.
Hope to see you on the 20th in the Promenade Lounge at 3pm :wave2:
So you know what we look like ~ here's a photo of us on our last trip to WDW although we look a bit older now :rotfl2:

So I think we finished all our FE gifts, but I may have goofed up our Fish Extender. I used stockings instead of pockets, and I don't think they open up that wide. What happens if the FE gift doesn't fit in the FE pockets? Do you just leave it by the door? I would be worried someone would pick it up and walk away with it.
I still have time to fix it, so I think I may have to slice open the sides of the stockings and add material so they actually open more....
It's getting close! And I am READY to be out of this SNOW and in the warm Florida sunshine! :cool1:

Good luck with sorting out your FE. I cheated and bought mine off Ebay! :upsidedow
I'm hoping for some warm sunshine too BUT have you seen the weather forecast? Not very warm, I'm afraid :cold: and it's supposed to rain :umbrella: on the 20th.

What weather site are you looking at? The ones that I can find only go a few days ahead. I'm starting to pack and would love a heads-up as to the weather we can expect!

I've been looking at Accuweather (http://www.accuweather.com/us/fl/orlando/32801/forecast3.asp?partner=accuweather&traveler=1&metric=0).
Seeing as Florida is a lot further south than Britain, I was hoping to get away with a hoodie and a waterproof rainjacket but have decided to play safe and bring a winter coat, scarf and gloves now! :rotfl:

I've just looked at the weather in Nassau (http://www.accuweather.com/world-forecast3.asp?partner=accuweather&locCode=CAC|BS|BF016|NASSAU&metric=0) for the day we'll be there and wished I hadn't :sad2: :sad2: :sad2:
I am going to be keeping everything crossed over the next few days that the weather will drastically change!! :wizard:

As someone who comes from the Southern US, I can tell you from experience that it's really difficult to predict what might happen in the Carribean this far in advance, so I'm hopefully optimistic that it could easily change in our favor.
Luckily, the temperature forecasts look great! And if the rain is only in the morning, we should do just fine....maybe it'll give us a few extra hours to sleep in and enjoy the ship before we embark on our excursions? (I don't know about you guys, but we're going to Atlantis, come rain or shine!!):cutie:
We'll keep our fingers crossed, too. And look forward to good news, weather-wise;)

I just checked the weather.....not looking too good for us :sad2:
But.....we'll be on a Disney Cruise so who cares!!! Right????!!!!
Remember, I'm a first-timer, so I have some questions:
Do we have to dress up every night for dinner?? One night we are going to wear dresses and all. But what about the other nights? What rest. do you like to really get dressed up for?
What should I pack??? I'm getting stressed! LOL!
Thanks!!

I think I may have found a way to track the weather at Castaway Cay (or at least close by). Try this: http://www.weather.com/outlook/travel/businesstraveler/tenday/BFXX0013?from=interactive_topnav_business
Still keeping our fingers crossed!;)

Snoopygirl,
Last year, on our first cruise, I was happy to see most people dressed more casually for dinner than I had expected. A few of the young girls did wear their beautiful Princess dresses. Some people got very dressed up, on their "dress up" dinner evening, most wore nice, but more casual clothes. Whatever you choose will be fine.
See you all next Sunday,
Katie

Well, after a small flight delay (5 hours!), we are finally home. And as I'm facing a pile of laundry and an angry cat who decided to eat my house plants, all I can think is: I want to go back!
We had such a great time, and it was so nice to meet all of you! Katie & Dilara - It was great talking with you and Lauren had a fun time hanging out in the hot tub and Aloft. Natalia & Chloe - I hope your Birthday was great! Cori & Tina – We loved the melted snowman, it was so cute! Bryan, Elaine & the girls - it was nice seeing you around the ship and Lauren says thank you for the fizzie candies (they were her favorite!). And to everyone else: Thank you for the great Fish Extender Gifts! There was such a nice collection and it was lots of fun to come back to the room and find new things dropped off!
This whole experience was awesome and I look forward to doing it again. Hope to see you all again around the DIS site or even better, at Disney!

What a GREAT trip! Thank you everyone for being part of it! Rob & Tamara - we missed you!
By the way, for those of you on the family beach on Castaway Cay around lunchtime, I was the one they brought back to the ship in a wheelchair. I dislocated my elbow. :( OW!

We're finally home after a fantastic holiday and the cruise was totally AWESOME!! The only thing I didn't like about it was having to disembark on the 23rd!
It was so nice to meet some of you and thank you everyone for all the fish extender gifts ~ it was such fun to keep on finding new gifts waiting for us. :flower3:
Cori ~ ouch, that sounds very painful, I hope it's better now and that it didn't spoil your cruise too much.
Wishing you all a Happy New Year ~ I hope it will be healthy, happy and prosperous for you all. :grouphug:
