on the way to airport to pick up DD

i just now thought of checking the arrivals online....stupid me...

DD's flight is arriving 40 minutes early!!!..
so we have to race to the airport now..

first we're driving to pick up DD's boyfriend and from there it will be at least another hour..

hopefully, DD will have to wait for luggage, as otherwise she'll get out before we get there..:eek:

one curious thing....i'm feeling a post trip letdown as if i went on the trip myself...funny...

guess i'd better start planning someone else's trip... :goodvibes

anyway....we're off...

A couple of years ago I had to collect DW from LHR, she'd been to Australia to visit a friend for a couple of weeks. I'd been following the progress of her flight online and left with plenty of time according to the LHR online arrival information. I was just getting into the car park when I got her rather irate phone call to question where I was as she'd just got land side I hadn't been there. The flight had been showing a delay of 40 minutes all the way from Singapore but managed to get in early.

we got there just as the plane landed, but it took another hour for her to come out......
but it was fun watching all the other people coming off other planes - trying to figure out what country they were from and which plane they might have come in on...

anyway, DD had a grand time!!!!

i tried to get a few choice highlights and lowlights to post here, but apparently there are so many highlights it would take a few days to list them all...

and there were so few lowlights she had to stop and search her memory to come up with them...

so here are the Lowlights - only two:
1. the buses were sooooooooooooo cold, DD feels her cold was a result of that....

2. the CM standing outside of the comedy club was rude and nasty (a female dog was the word equivalent that DD used)....she said the waitress inside the comedy club was equally unpleasant....
DD's only explanation was maybe they've been fired (due to the club's closing)...but she said they were so nasty they deserve to be fired..

and that's it....no other lowlights...everything else was outstanding..

they loved the pop century...said the CMs there were great!!
she said the free dining plan was incredible..

she has zillions of stories of CMs going above and beyond...

by the way, as i'm writing this, i'm eating some of her halloween candy from mickey's party....she came back with a ton....she didn't eat any of it :eek: (clearly she doesn't take after me....no way would candy make it back to this side of the ocean)...

one other nice travel story -
at orlando airport when they were leaving - her friend's suitcase was 20 pounds overweight.....
DD had told her friend to bring an empty duffel for the flight back, but her friend refused to listen...
her friend didn't understand that just because there's room doesn't mean you can put everything into the suitcase...

so after the ground agent told DD's friend that she would have to pay for the overweight if it stayed in that suitcase, he then suggested that DD's friend move some stuff from her suitcase into DD's extra duffel - which had lots of room as well as spare weight allowance..

then he did a really nice thing...he told them to take stuff out of the suitcase and put it straight onto the scale so they could weigh exactly 20 pounds worth of stuff...and then he helped them pack it into the duffel and close the duffel...
how nice is that?????......and he's a delta ground agent....who would expect him to be so nice (ok....so DD is cute and all that - but still, ground agents aren't usually so helpful).....

so that was nice.....DD said the flight from orlando to JFK was terrible...super bumpy the entire flight (the pilot apologized several times for not being able to find smooth air)...
but their flight from JFK home was smooth sailing...no turbulence at all...
and their plane landed 40 minutes early!!

well that's it..

DD said she wants to go with ME for free dining next year....so i guess i can start planning that now.. :rotfl:
