Hidely ho, foodarinos!!!

Welcome to the newest of our Walt Disney World food adventures ... the one that wasn't supposed to happen this year and actually hasn't yet but will very shortly. We leave for WDW on October 8th and will return to Stinktown on October 17th - that's my birthday ... there should be some kind of law against having to leave WDW on one's birthday.

As usual I've planned out our meals to incorporate a mix of old favorites and scary new places. And as usual we plan on eating our way around the world showcase food booths. And as usual we've got a few special F&W dining events scheduled.

So who are we anyway? We're a couple of silly DINKS who like to eat and drink and laugh.

Oybolshoi: Brenda a/k/a Bendy ... I'll turn 39 on the day we leave WDW and will no doubt need lots and lots of cheese to make me feel better about it once we get home.

DH: Jason ... just a wee bit younger than his old crohn of a wife and a far more adventurous eater, too.

Now, I feel honor bound to warn you that the following plan may still be subject to change at the last minute. Without getting into any details that you'd rather not hear, I've been under the weather since mid-August and am on my third dose of antibiotics. Odds are that I'll still be on more than one kind of drug come October and that could mess with our dining plans, but I'm going to do everything in my power to eat twice my weight in food and drink way more than I should. ;)

So, without further delay ... here's the ADR and pre-paid F&W line-up:

EDITED 10/17/08: We're back and the following is the list of all the reviews that we're planning to share with you ... yum yum yum! As each review is completed I will link directly to it in this post for those of you who don't want to have to wade through all the in-between stuff that is likely to pop up.

October 12th: French Regional Lunch
October 12th: Dinner, Casey's Hot Diggity Dogs
October 12th: Dessert, Ghiradelli's Soda Fountain
October 13th: Breakfast, Rain Forest Cafe Animal Kingdom
October 13th: Lunch, Artist's Palette
October 13th: Dinner, Wolfgang Puck's Dining Room
October 14th: Breakfast, Grand Floridian Cafe
October 14th: Drinking Around the World ... Someone Stop the Spinning
October 14th: Lunch, Rose & Crown Pub
October 14th: Dinner, Wolfgang Puck's Sushi Bar
October 15th: Afternoon Tea, Gardenview Lounge
October 15th: Dinner, Blue Zoo
October 16th: Breakfast, Wolfgang Puck Express
October 16th: Kitchen Conversation w/Robert Irvine
October 16th: Dinner, Citricos

And did I mention all those F&W Festival booths? :rotfl2: We managed to sample food and / or booze at a total of 22 booths. Officially we missed four booths that were offering food, and two of those were by choice because nothing had changed from past years.

We were not on the dining plan, but did have the DDE card and didn't hesitate to use it! Also, those of you who thought we were supposed to dine at V&A are not crazy or imagining things - we had to cancel that reservation for this trip and now plan to dine there in October 2009 for my 40th birthday.

And finally and most important ... welcome to our reviews!! Thanks in advance for taking the time to re-live the food joy with us. We have a lot of fun stuffing our faces and drowning our livers on vacation and hope you enjoy reading all about it after the fact. Feel free to make comments or ask questions or whatever else you may like ... I love hearing from people and have made some wonderful DIS-friends thanks to threads like these.

Aw, Brenda, I am both :cool1: and  about this - happy because I love me some oybolshoi food reporting, and sad because hubby and I had planned to be there too from the 13th to the 18th, but had to move to the trip to January.

I had big plans for those F&W booths! Oh well, at least I'll get to live it vicariously through you, so pick up that mantle for the both of us, woman! :rotfl2:

And I'm also turning 39 soon. But Brenda is older than me.

I'm looking forward to the Robert Irvine thing. He has a habit of wearing tight tshirts that show off his "guns". ;)

I admit it ... I think that this food line-up is a pretty good one. I think I must have changed it around at least five or six different times thanks to the Food and Wine Festival programming - and I don't mean that in a good way. ;)

Because I'm looking so forward to this trip, I thought I'd share some more details about our itinerary, the why behind some of our choices, and explain the gaping holes I've left on my calendar for certain days of our trip.

October 8th - Our welcome home day as we arrive at Saratoga Springs later in the day than I originally planned ... thanks for nothing American Airlines, you're now officially on The List. I anticipate that once we've checked in, unpacked, and stashed our few groceries that we will be gnawing our fingers from our hands in hunger. Right now we're planning on finally having lunch at Earl of Sandwedge ... we hope that by 1PM on a Wednesday it won't be too busy. Once we're finished with this meal we intend to head over to the Magic Kingdom to start the trip off on the right note.

Somewhere this afternoon we will stop by Aloha Isle. We've never tried the infamous Dole Whip. For one thing, I don't like pineapple and for another thing, the line is always so long that we end up opting for a Mickey Bar instead. But it seems like the hubba and I should try this supposed delicacy and then offer our unwanted opinions on it, so Jay will try the traditional Dole Whip and I'll get a rootbeer float and all will be right with the world.

Later this evening ... about 8:30 ... we have a reservation at Raglan Road. This is one of our favorite casual places to have dinner and we really enjoy the Irish band. We have a $50 gift certificate to work our way through, so that should cover most of the evening's bill. Not the entire bill, of course, because we will no doubt be trying the "create your own beer sampler" on top of some other drinks ... Celtic Sangria anyone?

October 9th - Our first full day at WDW!!! We plan on having a light breakfast in the villa and then we will make our way over to Epcot where we will spend the bulk of our day scoping out the Food and Wine Festival and taking our first stab at those festival food booths. Our only ADR is for dinner at California Grill ... we're actually happy with our 6PM dining time because we think all the brouhaha over watching fireworks from the restaurant's observation deck is totally over-rated and results in a noisy, often over-tired throng of people moving through the dining room to watch the show while diners are trying to enjoy their meals. We should be long gone before the madness starts and well-positioned somewhere on the ground to watch the pretty explosions over the MK that night.

October 10th - Thanks to many stellar reviews here on the DIS, Jay and I bit the bullet and made a 9:30 reservation for breakfast at Boma. From here we may head over to the Animal Kingdom for a few hours of steamy, hippo-swimming, monkey butt-scratching fun. I have my eye on some light snacks at the AK that will no doubt need to be washed down with at least one of those Yak Attacks that I keep seeing pictures of.

Since this evening is an EMH at Epcot, we've planned a late dinner at Tokyo Dining with lots of yummy sushi! The good thing about sushi is that it's light and we will still have room for some food booth snackables as the evening wears on.

October 11th - This day is totally up in the air, although at the moment we're leaning towards MGM and a light breakfast at Starring Rolls. The other option is to just make this a really lazy day where we just hang out at the pool, in which case we might wander over to DTD and have breakfast at Wolfgang Puck Express. The reason for no real food plans is that we're gonna be stuffing our faces at Party for the Senseless at Epcot tonight. :woohoo: For those of you unfamiliar with PFTS, here's the official description:

Feast on this tribute to the sensory arts! Begin your evening with a reserved seat at the Eat to the Beat Concert Series at the America Gardens Theatre (we'll be skipping this, thanks anyway). Following the show, the World Showplace Pavilion becomes the setting for a sensational evening showcasing the talents of more than 25 eminent chefs and the diversity of over 70 wines and beers. Wander among tempting tasting stations in the midst of imaginative decor and live (not Cirque) entertainment.

We plan to grow large with food this evening and there may be a rumble at the cheese station if Kabuki and I arrive there at the same time ... stay tuned for further details! ;)

October 12th - No plans for breakfast ... I expect we'll sleep in a bit and have some coffee and croissants in the room. We have to be at Epcot before noon for another F&W special event: A French Regional Lunch at Bistro Paris. The F&W description is as follows: Explore the rich and unique flavors that define the many world-renowned food and wine regions of France. Each event includes a three-course lunch prepared by the chefs of Bistro de Paris celebrating the local foods and drink of the featured region.

Our lunch will feature the cuisine and wines of the Loire Valley.

Later in the evening we have an 8PM reservation for dinner at Kona Cafe. We have never had anything but breakfast at Kona but so many of our DIS-friends swear by dinner here that we decided to take the plunge and try a new meal. If it stinks we'll blame you all, but I suspect a few lapu lapus will make us forget why we even chose it in the first place. :rotfl2:

October 13th - Thanks to another gift certificate we have a breakfast reservation at the Rainforest Cafe over at the Animal Kingdom. We expect to play around at the park for a while once we're done eating and then I don't know what we're going to do. We had planned a dinner at V&A this evening but decided to cancel and save it for next year. In its place we're going to take a big risk and have dinner at Wolfgang Puck's upstairs dining room. There are decidedly mixed reviews here on the DIS, so Jay and I will arm ourselves with a healthy dose of low expectations. I have to say, however, that the updated menu at this restaurant sounds much more appealing than the one I looked at last year, so I am looking forward to our meal here.

October 14th - This could be the day of days. We're attempting the Hank Scorpio Drink Around the World Showcase Challenge at Epcot ... our livers will never be the same. To start ourselves out on the right foot, we've made a breakfast reservation at the Grand Floridian Cafe. This way once we're done we can just hop the monorail to Epcot (well, to the TTC and then to Epcot). We will stop for a late lunch at Rose and Crown and quite frankly, everything after that will no doubt be a tipsy blur.

October 15th - A huge empty spot on the calendar ... I think we're going to need the morning to recover from the previous day, anyway. ;) We have a dinner reservation at Blue Zoo with BriarRosie, Tink rules, and The DISneyFamily ... should be good times indeed! It's a late dinner so I'm sure Jay and I will need to find some sustenance prior to the evening but I'm drawing a blank ... I'm not used to winging it and that blank space in my planner is making me nervous ... I wonder what we're going to do?

October 16th - Our last F&W special event takes places today at Epcot ... Kitchen Conversations with Robert Irvine. The description: Visit with an acclaimed culinary personality and discover how he or she enjoys life in-and-outside the kitchen. A cooking demonstration, tasting, and an autographed copy of the presenter's book are included in this delightful (really? I'll hold you to that) event.

We also have an early dinner reservation at Citricos ... our last meal before heading back to the resort to pack for the trip home.

There won't be any time to enjoy breakfast on property the next morning, thanks again to American Airlines and their compulsive need to change our flight times. Thanks a lot, you corporate schmoes, did I mention that you're now officially on The List? :headache:

So, what do you think? Any suggestions for those holes in our plans? Any requests that you might like to see Jay and I write a review on? Talk to me ... help me pass the time ... let's drool together, shall we? :lmao:

A cooking demonstration, tasting, and an autographed copy of the presenter's book are included in this delightful (really? I'll hold you to that) event.

I'd love to be there for this. My question..."why oh why Robert did you fake your resumé so now I cannot enjoy you on the Food Network?!?!?!"

Sounds like a great trip. We will be many years before we can go during the fall (2 children in school and we live on the left coast), but someday I'm going to get there in October.

My first thought was: little Bendy has been knocking them back because it's not even October yet. :rotfl2: I see now it's a pre- food trippie. :thumbsup2 I thoroughly enjoy reading your reviews!!!! :goodvibes

:rotfl2: Little Bendy is always trying to knock them back, so I can't fault your thinking! Glad to have you here ... I hope you enjoy this next batch of food tales.

Woo Hoo!:dance3: I can't wait! The Kitchen Conversation with Robert Irvine thing sounds awesome. It's sad you have to leave on your birthday though.:sad2:

I can't wait either! I'm really looking forward to the Robert Irvine event - I think it will be really good. And I'm sad we're leaving on my birthday too, but I guess I shouldn't be too sad since we weren't even supposed to go this year. :goodvibes

It sounds like a whole lotta awesome fun. But Brenda and Jay going to Disney and not having Kona Cafe for breakfast and Grand Floridian Tea?? How odd!

Yeah, it just doesn't seem right somehow; that whole no kona for breakfast and no afternoon tea was part of the original deal Jay and I made for this trip. And now ... with that blank space on our calendar for October 15th ... well, I just got off the phone with disney dining and now we have an ADR for tea at 3PM that afternoon! See what you made me do?! :lmao: :rotfl2:

I can't wait to read all of your reviews when you return. Yours are some of the best on the DIS.

Thanks so much ... I hope I can live up to the hype! :goodvibes

I hear you on that first point ... Dinner Impossible just isn't the same with Michael Simon, even though I do like him.

October is a great time of year to visit the Mouse ... hopefully you'll get there sooner rather than later. :goodvibes

We're watching Dinner Impossible right now ... Symon (I spelled his name wrong earlier) is just too nice. He needs a new staff and he needs to scare the bejeebus out of them. :rotfl2:

B, I am looking forward to hearing about your thoughts on the Dole Whip :thumbsup2 I hate pineapple and I'm not even a big ice cream lover but for some reason, I love those things!!!

And as for watching the fireworks from the CG, if you are still in the vicinity, you could always go back up after your dinner (with your dinner check!) and see them from the outdoor balcony. I remember when mere peons who weren't dining there could sneak up and watch them from that balcony for free :snooty: Oh yeah, I was said peon in 1999 and 2000 :lmao: Then in 2002 I was forced to buy a $4 coke from the bar and then in 2003 I was completely banned  Basty Nastards! :rolleyes1 :rotfl2:

Yay - a new report from Brenda!! :cool1: Good times!

Your food-tineraries look incredible, as always. We are just missing you - we arrive on October 20, so no random Brenda/Jason/Planky sightings this year. We are also missing PFTS on October 25 since we leave the next morning at the crack of dawn. I really waffled over booking it, but the idea of a food and wine hangover, mixed with flying across the country at the crack of dawn, mixed with the cost of the tickets....you see where I'm going. Oh well, maybe next year...

Looking forward to more! :thumbsup2

We plan to grow large with food this evening and there may be a rumble at the cheese station if Kabuki and I arrive there at the same time ... stay tuned for further details! ;)

I guess I have been out of the loop and just saw this.. I resemble this statment! ;)

We'll get back to you on those Dole Whips, Cass. And yeah, I know we can go back after dinner and watch the fireworks, but we really don't like watching the pretty 'splosions from the viewing deck. Too crowded.

OK ... you guys can give me your thoughts on this ...

Our last dinner on property is October 16th at Citricos and being the dork I am, I wanted to order something from the GF Bakery for my birthday, but it has to be small since we leave the next morning.

The obvious choice would be the miniature castle cake, but do you know what I'd really like to do? I'd love to order that white chocolate Mickey Mouse with the tuxedo strawberries ... do you think that they'd do that since it's something that's on the hotel's amenities menu? I suppose it wouldn't hurt to call and ask ... :confused3

I totally think you can get those "tuxedo" strawberries without any difficulty. I bet it's a heckuva lot easier to arrange than a specialty dessert. And I know for a fact that years and years ago, they DID have a chocolate Mickey "statue".

My friends and I "won" one during our Chef Mickey's dinner during WDW's 25th celebration just by being the "125th guest" of the restaurant that night. They brought out a bowl filled with M&Ms and the Mickey standing in the middle of them. I know I have a picture of it somewhere at home, but I'd have to search for it, since it was from 1996. ;)

Which week are guys going to be there? We will be there April 17th to the 26th so I may have to try and save YOU booze and food after all! :rotfl:
We get there the 12th and are actually leaving on the day you arrive so I will try to make sure I save you some slushes in World Showcase. :rotfl: I know you love the dining reports but if you want to read my plans I have a PTR in my siggy. I mentioned you and your reviews making me want to try a place a few times actually.

I arrive on the 25th, so you guys better save some slushies for me! ;) How else will I get through the movie at the end of Malestrom if not fortified by alcohol?

Looks like you have lots of followers and now I'm one of them. I followed you over here from another post and am very excited to read your TR. I'm not a food afficianado (can't spell that word, but hope you understand what I'm trying to say) but I do like to eat. I don't like weird, freaky stuff though. Just normal things like potatoes and gravy. Unfortunately, for me, I don't know who this hunk of a man you all are talking about from the food network. The only shows that I watch on that channel are Iron Chef, Iron Chef America, and Bizarre Foods. So, maybe I'll have to look this up on YouTube. I like big hunky man arms too!!!

You axed V&A ... Dang.. I was counting on your food reviews so I didn't have to do them! Your initial list had us at the same places a few days apart .. Brenda.. I was ridding on your food noshing and reviewing coat-tails! Now I have to do my own?? :rotfl2: We are still doing Vic and Al's due to the lack of special events we are off to and that Jason has only stepped in the place to take a picture and make sure I didn't take off with a plate or something laid out!

But you're still doing Vicki and Al's Diner before me, so I guess that should force you to do a review, right? Right? I'm still going there on the 19th for the same reasons...lack of signature dinners.

I arrive on the 25th, so you guys better save some slushies for me! ;) How else will I get through the movie at the end of Malestrom if not fortified by alcohol?

You mean you've never done the "Norwegian Hustle" to sidestep your way out of the theater when they open up the bullpen doors? I'd say I'd see the movie once every few years. But the rest of the time, I just walk past the screening room with the rest of the crowd. ;)

Yeah, I've see you "shady folks" do the Norweigan Hustle, ;) I just feel too guilty. I don't want those poor Norweigan cast members to think we only like them for their trolls and audioanomatronic polar bears. I don't want to hurt thier feelings by walking out on the "culture" part of thier presentation. I know, I know, its crazy, and you better believe I get the evil eye from my husband for making him sit through a study of 80's fashion and sensibilities, but I just can't say no, I'm too nice! I don't want Norway to feel underappreciated

I lurk more than I post, but I have enjoyed everyone one of your food reports and can't wait to read this one.

Your food plans look fabu. I, too, think Michael Symon is just too stinking nice on DI. DH and I were watching some Tivo'd episodes last night and they are downright boring without Mr. Irvine. So has Food Network removed him completely from the whole channel?

I'm planning a special anniversary cake for DH at our Narcoosee's ressie. I'm making arrangements through Linda at the GF as she is apparently "the Keeper of the Cake" for special orders from the Bakery. Her number is on the cake thread on the Restaurant board.

I asked about a dark chocolate Mickey and was told they don't make them anymore. I am doing something similar to this:

for our 10th anniversary.

Hope that helps!

Brenda, glad to see you are back! I am a big fan of your reviews (in fact, I just finished reading old "Hungry Are the Damned" entries!) so I am looking forward to hearing about your next trip (just in time for me to be making my spring ADRs!). As a fellow cheese lover I always like to hear what you order.

Looking forward to hearing more. Have a great trip! Julie

P.S. It cracks me up that you already have 6 pages on a dining thread for a trip that hasn't even happened yet! That has to be a record!

Ooh I'm with Jay on this one sister...go for the "real" chocolate...let us know if they can do it!

And PS....leave some food and booze there for me ok? I am just a few days behind ya and I would hate to go to the bar and order me a drink only to have the bartender say, Uh sorry your Dis friend Bren drank it all!

Mmmmm, real chocolate! I still have to try to call ... been too busy at work to "make a break."

And we'll do our best to leave enough food and booze for everyone else ... ;)

I know I have a picture of it somewhere at home, but I'd have to search for it, since it was from 1996. ;)

Lori, the most interesting things always seem to happen to you at WDW ... I'd love to see a picture if you have one that you can post.

:rotfl2: :rotfl2:
I am just glad that I am not going to Disney until April, it will give them time to recover and resupply on all those yummy beverages after you guys clean them out!

Never fear, we promise to behave ... sort of. :lmao:

Ah shnap, Brenda! We'll miss you guys by 1 day! We're heading down Fri, 10/3 for a short trip to F&W and leaving Tuesday. Only 10 days to go! :yay:

I hope you and Jay have a great trip, too. I can't wait to hear all about it when you get back! :cutie:

Oh bilge! What a bummer ... would have loved to meet up with you guys. Hopefully next year! :thumbsup2

You have a fabulous trip, too! We can all reconvene in November to talk about it here on the DIS!

I'm here B!! You'll be in da World when I'm at da "other" world, Vegas Baby!:rotfl2:

Anywho, do you know that you can get free admission to a Disney park on your birthday? I think you should just because you can :goodvibes I think you have to sign up on the WDW site and make sure you have proper ID at the gate to pick up your ticket.

Can't wait to hear about your escapades! :thumbsup2

Hey woman! How ya been? I hope you guys have a great time in Vegas and be sure to have some tasty meals!! Thanks for checking in with me here ... it's just not a food review without you!

And I did see that annoucement about the birthday promotion ... looks like I'll have to do that next year when we visit! :thumbsup2

Well, dang - slap me with a wet noodle, I'm LATE! :headache: Sorry, B! :flower3: Steve & I are really looking forward to our Blue Zoo dinner with you guys! I can't believe your trip is almost here! :dance3: BTW, I started a pre-TR... but there's not much to it yet... Link in siggie. I'm going to pour myself a little drink after dinner and come back to properly catch up.

Cheers!

P.S. I'm bummed you had to axe V&A. We are on the verge, too... :sad2:

Hi Michelle! You're not late ... we're all just getting started here and you're right on time! I'm so looking forward to finally meeting you two and I'm really excited about dinner. Yum!

We just felt that V&A was a bit too much money to spend this year on top of everything else. I guess we've got a case of the economic jitters ... besides, we've had a lot of good meals this year already and it won't kill us to wait until next Fall to dine at V&A again. We might even appreciate it a little more!
Glad you're here!

Great line up Brenda :thumbsup2

I love Robert Irvine, I hope the event is everything and more!

I had the cheese plate at CG early this month and it was great, the only one I didn't care for and you'd probably agree was the Gratte-Paille since it had mushroom flavor :sad2: why ruin cheese with mushroom flavor

Thanks for stopping by Deb and thanks for the input on the CG cheese plate - I'll be sure to avoid the mushroomie cheese if they're still serving it. I totally agree with you - nothing ruins cheese like mushrooms unless it's nuts ... lots and lots of nuts.

You axed V&A ... Dang.. I was counting on your food reviews so I didn't have to do them! Your initial list had us at the same places a few days apart .. Brenda.. Hey Kabuki! Sorry to disappoint, but we felt like we needed to cut back a bit and canceling V&A was the easiest way to save a lot of money. :headache:

I fully expect and look forward to your reviews, young lady! :thumbsup2

Hi there and thanks for reading and posting! You will find all kinds of food on my threads ... weird and scary as well as comfortingly and boringly normal. I hope you enjoy our reviews once we actually get them started.

As for Robert Irvine ... he's a muscle man, no doubt about it. If you google his name I'm sure some pictures will come up that give you an idea of what we've all been gushing about. ;)

Well, I found a few photos that I thought I would share, since you seem interested. The first photo is the 125th Guest chocolate Mickey statue we received at Chef Mickey's that I mentioned earlier from my November 1996 trip:

http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b255/BriarRosie/mickstatue.jpg

I also found a picture from my first visit to the Chef's Table at V&A, same trip. My friend Jason had wanted to see what the hype was about when I told him I wanted to do the Chef's Table. As you can see, we had a rodent infestation. ;) Oh, and this was when I was blonde! And for those of you who have been to the Chef's Table since, you'll notice just how small this was before they expanded the Chef's Table area. Chef's Table back then could only seat 4, and now I think you have room for up to 10 people.

http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b255/BriarRosie/chefs.jpg

Since this was my week-long birthday celebration trip, and another friend who was with our group was also celebrating a birthday, we were honored to lead the birthday parade around 'Ohana. I have a more embarrassing photo of us, but I wouldn't post it without his consent. :)

http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b255/BriarRosie/ohana.jpg

And last, but not least, I had been happy I was able to go on the Disney Store Cast Member Trip to Disneyland in May of 1996, a scant 6 months earlier. Much of what we did is something I can imagine doing in that Adventures by Disney tour in December.

In this photo, we were in the Disney Archives office (yes, that is Dave Smith in the background), and we had the opportunity to get photographed holding one of Walt Disney's many Academy Awards. I think the one I am holding is from the "White Wilderness" True Life Adventures.

I finally had some breathing room at the office today and took my credit card in hand and made some phone calls.

To that end ...

We will be enjoying a miniature Cinderella Castle cake with our afternoon tea on October 15th (vanilla, thank you very much) and I send many cyber hugs and platonic smoochies to Consuela at the Grand Floridian Bakery who arranged to have that Mickey statue with the tuxedo strawberries delivered to our table at Citricos on October 16th. She's even including a box so that we can take it home safely - somehow it seems wrong to bite off Mickey's head in the middle of a signature restaurant ... I'd rather do that in the privacy of my own home. :lmao:

And I also ordered a couple of items from the WDW Florist ... because I could. But I don't think I'm going to tell you what those are. For one thing I know my lovey lurks around here and I don't want to ruin the surprise for him, and for another ... I don't want to ruin the surprise for you either!

So, other than getting our last minute finances in order and packing and all that happy crappy we are ready to roll. And roll is exactly what I expect to be doing by the end of this trip. :lmao:

I called the GF Bakery - there is a phone number listed on the birthday / anniversary cake thread and that's the one I called. I ordered the cake from them first, which I knew that I could do and then I asked whether or not I could order the Mickey statue. Since that's an item that's actually on the resort's amenties menu I wasn't sure if I could persuade them to do it. The CM I spoke with put me on hold for about five minutes and then came back to tell me that she'd received permission to do it.

We'll see what happens when we get to Citricos ... the order is held with a credit card but they don't charge in advance. I'm sure it will be fine, but you never know until you get there and tell your server. ;)

Hi Brenda! I have lurked for your last several reports and thoroughly enjoyed reading about your adventures in dining (and drinking), and have always been slightly (okay, extremely) jealous that I haven't gotten to check out the Food and Wine Festival. My husband and I just planned a last-minute trip to disney for 10/5-10/9, so our trip is going to overlap with yours. We have ADRs at Raglan Road the same night as you do, but earlier, as we have kiddies to tend to. This may sound dorky, but it's neat to know that when I read your next report I will be thinking, I was there then too! Anyway, I'm looking forward to your report and I hope you have a great trip!

Might I suggest that you make sure to try the vanilla/pineapple twist. I think it's about 10X better than the pineapple on its own. Just my $0.02 :)

:rotfl2:

Another unsolicited suggestion...stay away from the tuna oscar with fried green tomatoes. The spice mix on the tuna just seemed to cover up the flavor of the fish. BUT, the tempura crab WAS tasty.

Be sure to ask him why he blatently lied on his resume for me. :rotfl:

Another suggestion...if you get a chance, give the churros at the Mexico CS spot a try. I love 'em. I'm not 100% sure if it's just 'cause of fond memories of eating them with my family when I was a kid, but if you've got fried dough with cinnamon and sugar can you really go wrong?

Might I suggest that you make sure to try the vanilla/pineapple twist. I think it's about 10X better than the pineapple on its own. Just my $0.02 :)

Another unsolicited suggestion...stay away from the tuna oscar with fried green tomatoes. The spice mix on the tuna just seemed to cover up the flavor of the fish. BUT, the tempura crab WAS tasty.

All suggestions are welcomed and appreciated - thanks for taking the time to post them!

As for Dole Whip ... you're saying Jay should try a vanilla / pineapple swirl - is that the same thing as the float?

Point well taken on the tuna oscar ... I don't think it was on either of our radars but I'll tuck your warning into the back of my brain.

We've never had churros ... we can't get past that Simpsons episode where Homer sneaks into WDW and then has to pay $12 for a churro. :rotfl2:

The float is ice cream with pineapple juice. The ice cream can be vanilla, pineapple or twist. I'd go with the float with twist ice cream!

I think one of you should get the pomegranate glazed pork chop at Kona. Just sayin'. Stay away from the macadamia nut butter served with the best pre-dinner bread offering, if that offends the "parasitic twin". ;) I think the teriyaki steak is another good option. But if that gawd-awful Ono whitefish is still on that menu, run, run away! Flee!

As for churros, there are carts around the parks that serve churros. I wouldn't go to the Mexico cantina for them. Just be careful if you get the one from Frontierland. Or at least keep close guard on it. I wouldn't want a flying rat (aka seagull) to rip it out of your hands. :scared1: Just sayin'. :rolleyes1 (Oh, I realized that the F&W kiosk will have churros with chocolate sauce.)

Your mom had the pork chop, didn't she? I seem to remember that from your review last year. I'm pretty sure that I'm opting for the scallops and shrimp ... the real question is what Jay will order. And I appreciate the heads up on the "nutter." I'll just eat the bread without it ... no need to antagonize the parasitic twin while on vacation. ;)

I gotta be honest ... the churro just doesn't all that appealing. BUT ... I am willing to give it a try when we visit Spain's booth because everything is better with chocolate sauce! :lmao:

I used to think NWA was the worst, but AA has taken their place. When we flew back from japan last time they ran out of red wine almost immediately! The nerve. I thought people were going to riot. I enjoy the give and take of conversation and opinion on these threads and I welcome and encourage it as much as I can (and as much as the mods will let me before they get disgusted with the thread length).

So all are welcome ... I'm a first amendment kind of gal. :thumbsup2

I so hear you on that. I can't help giggling when people post the whole don't bother responding if you don't agree with me bits. Because most message board posters respond to that kind of statement in the manner requested. :rolleyes1

We flew AA again for our trip to WDW and every single flight had some sort of issue. They are pathetic.

What is totally awful about it too is that we have a bagillion frequent flyer points with them and their flights are perpetually blocked out now except for stand-by. Their service sucks when I have a confirmed ressie. Do they really think I'm stupid enough to subject myself to stand-by stupidity?

My brother just "won" two tickets on American to anywhere they fly in the lower 48...it took him 3 days and several date changes to get those tickets to Orlando... I could walk faster to MCO than it will take for him to get there on the flights they had open...

BUT...

I want free tickets to somewhere?? Last year DH and I took a bump on US Air from Phoenix to Honolulu so we got 2 free vouchers, transferrable to anywhere in the U.S. that they flew. I decided I was going to use them to go to my parents house over Thansgiving. Don't you know, that even though there were empty seats on the flight I was looking at that they weren't going to do it! I fought and got angry, cried and I ended up getting a good flight. Why give me free tickets when you're going to limit my flights SO much. Ticks me off.
Looking forward to reading about food. Hey, that's a good way to not get arm fat. READING about food instead of eating it.:rotfl: :rotfl:

Bendy...

Just bring little bottles of wine...

3 oz or under...

in a zip lock bag...

You'll be fine on ANY flight...

Oh..

And bring cookies...

Planky likes cookies... :thumbsup2

Ya know ... we have some perfectly sized sample bottles of single malt scotch that someone sent us two months ago. Perhaps we'll have to crack one open on the plane.

Planky will have to wait until WDW for cookies ... we don't usually do cookies in our house. But I will share my breakfast croissant with him. :thumbsup2

I think you should go ahead and sue them. You can set the precident for the rest of us in any type of similar situation, and goodness knows we're time goes missing everyday! :rotfl:

I'll let you know what happens with AA when I get back ... hopefully all will go smoothly. :goodvibes

I have a friend who has struggled with AA for years to use her frequent flyer miles ... it's ridiculous that they do that to their customers but sadly it's not surprising. I love Southwest's program ... it's so flexible and easy to use. Unfortunately I don't fly much for work any longer so I don't wrack up the free flights like I used to. :sad2:

that's strange ... it's another Simpson's quote (what else, right?).

ever see the episode where Bart gets sent to fat camp? at the very end the guy who runs the camp takes Homer back with him and discovers that Homer is eating a cheeseburger in the car. They have this protracted argument about the burger, which the health nut wants to eat and Homer won't share ...

The guy says at one point, "I smelled it; it has to be eaten!"

Jay and I have just always thought it was funny and it seemed like a good title for a food review thread.

Later in the same episode the guy says to Homer (in an effort to get the burger), "I'm driving ... I'll kill us both!"

To which Homer replies (with his mouth full of burger), "Fine! I'd rather die!"

I totally agree about Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert ... they are incredible at this kind of stuff. And honestly, I think that they do a far better job of calling out both parties on their mis-statements and hypocrisy.

Our current favorite was from Thursday night (I think) when they were running this footage of McCain supporting the bailout package on MSNBC on one hand and then bashing it on the other in the exact same interview. It was hysterical and then they basically compared him with Gollum:

We loves the bailout package.
No ... we hates it!

:rotfl2: :rotfl2:

I think that is what I love so much... the equal opportunity bashing for both parties... I may support one, but that doesn't mean I agree with everything he says... My fave was when Jon Stewart had a montage of the talking heads dismissing possible Dem VP picks, then turning around and praising Sarah Palin for being exactly what they were picking on... I will PM you the link if I can find it...

We leave MA 10/24... MNSSHP party that night, 7 days on the Magic leaving on 10/25, then when they pry my hands off my veranda on 11/1... a week in WDW at OKW. I think there will be plenty of time to replenish.... unless of course you have Planky with you... He will eat all of Florida....

:lmao:

I found you! I really have got to stop with all of these family duties and DIS more.

Everything looks great. Watch out for the root beer floats at Aloha Isle. My kids got some last summer, and they didn't care for them. I think it was the brand of root beer they were using. Let me know what you think.....

He will eat all of Florida.... ;)

If you can find the link that would be great, thanks! And have yourself a great trip ... nothing like a week at WDW and a week on the Magic! There are a large number of people cruising next October the week of 10/24 - 10/31 (Eastern itinerary) and I can vouch for them all being a very friendly and fun group. Any chance you might re-book for next year while you're on your cruise this month? :rolleyes1

Joining in! I've really enjoyed your other reviews and am looking forward to this one! Have a great time!! :cool1:

Hi Sistah! Thanks for the tip on the float ... maybe I'll just stick with plain old swirlie ice cream 'cause I'm really picky about my root beer floats.

Thanks for checking in with us ... we're glad to have you following the food fun (that way you'll know what to expect next year!).

Brenda, it was reported on the F&WF thread that the booths were not open for EMH this past Friday...please let us know what you find out this coming Friday. This is messing up all of my plans :( I already cut a night off of our usual week long trip (against my better judgement), so I'm really going to be short on booth grazing time if the booths are not open during EMH!

I saw that post earlier and the hubby and I are none too pleased. I'll be sure to report back once we get home on the 17th but like you, this messes up our carefully laid plans if it's true for all Epcot evening EMHs during the festival.

My list of items that I'm going to have to take up with Disney after this trip keeps getting longer and longer. If this keeps up it will end up being a disertation. :rotfl2:

Hmmm..... the 2009 cruise... we are def booking something onboard this time around... just dont know what it will be.... looking for maybe a repo, baltic, med, in 2010.... but nothing is ever ruled out... i would take a 7 day on the magic if they sailed out to sea for 3.5 days and sailed it back 3.5 days... :thumbsup2

At this point we are thinking of spending a week in WDW in Oct 09... We are getting AP's this time around (awesome price for DVC members) and are hoping to go down once for our birthdays 2/29 for him 3/19 for me... and once for our wedding anniversary 10/12... But like I said, nothing is set in stone yet...

Cant wait for your TR... Are you bringing Planky? Do you post live? :confused3

We've been thinking about booking next year for one of the cruises on the new ship, but that will depend on a lot of thing.

I love the Eastern itinerary because it starts out with two full days at sea - it's very relaxing. And Jay and I really like St. Martin which is the first port of call (St. Thomas is the other).

I think that Planky may come with us but his appearances will likely be limited ... we've done just about everything we can with him at WDW. And as for live updates ... it takes me so long to write one review that I'd never leave the room. And I hate the hassel of dragging a laptop with me on vacation, especially with airport security being what it is.

So you guys will just have to wonder about all the fabu food we're stuffing our faces with starting with lunch at Earl of Sandwedge on Wednesday. ;)

And thanks for the links! :goodvibes

Ok, I'm finally caught up. I worked this weekend and couldn't find the time. I'll be thinking of you on Wednesday while you are at the EOS. Love it, especially the Earl's Club!

Well, DH and I are really missing WDW this fall. I'm mean, we've already been twice this year, but we really need the fall trip so much. But he did say "We are going next year, without the kids, in the fall" Now I'm going to try to convince him to do mid-October so we can maybe meet up!

Of course, this all depends on what happens with DH's company, who is owned by AIG :(

We'll see.....:scared1:

Brenda, I didn't realise you'd started your new thread until tonight! How could I have missed 13 pages? Maybe because DH and I just returned from WDW on Saturday. First time we've visited in September/October and first time at the F&WF! We had a great trip, we stayed in a studio at SSR and we managed to visit Pleasure Island on its last night (but the Adventurer's Club was full). EOS was our first port of call after we checked in too, I had the Tuna Melt and DH had the Earls Club.

Roll on April, I'll be there on my birthday too - can't wait to claim my gift card! :yay:

Brenda,

Have a great trip! I am confident that, despite some less than stellar reports from others, you and Jason will have an awesome time.

Really looking forward to your updates, stories and pictures upon your return.

Have a drink (or two, or three, or...) for me!

Brad

Hi Brad! Thanks for stopping in to say hello and I'm also sure that we'll have a rip-roaring good time, too. We will definitely have a drink for you! :thumbsup2

Since it's just the two of us we can actually pack pretty quickly ... by the time we go to bed we'll be all packed and ready to go. :thumbsup2

Unfortunately my father has been scheduled for surgery on the 15th so I am staying around to see how things go... So sorry for not letting you know... My personal secretary (the little green furry butt) has been busy getting ready for his trip with Bendy... Will have to cut his Xmas bonus for that one...

Hope your trip was great! We didn't see you, but we ended up only being in Epcot for 30 minutes, and we left FL early. DH and I both ended up with sore throats, and just didn't feel like doing anything, so we're home a day early, and we missed seeing you again.:confused3 Maybe next year!
