Our subdivision has a "garage sale day" the first weekend of June that draws tons of people. Last year we made about $400 and split it evenly between us - everyone in the family got $80. We'll be having a sale again and hoping to make a little more. I plan to have everyone use their money for WDW souveniers (and arcade money for the kids - .
Has anyone else done this??

We did a garage sale last August to help pay for our 4 day Wonder cruise and 2 days at WDW. We did a whopping $1500!!! I have twins and I was selling about 7 bags of clothes, plus most of our big baby items and DH and I had been married for 9 years at the time-had a lot of useless stuff but never had a garage sale before. The best part of the whole thing was we had a record heatwave the week prior to the garage sale and I worked off 5 lbs hauling everything out of the basement and standing in the sweltering garage tagging it all!

We're having one the first weekend in June to (hopefully) pay for my DD(28) and DGD(7) to go to Discovery Cove one day during our stay at the world. I've heard that there used to be a good "garage sale tips" thread on the budget board at one time. I sure would like to see that! I think I'll post a thread asking for it; maybe one of the mods can dig it up.

Baby items bring in a lot of money - we made a lot more on our first sale when we sold a crib and many other baby items :( . Last year we made a lot of money selling food - hot dogs, pop, brownies and chips! Since people were cruising our neighborhood all day, they really appreciated a quick lunch! The kids manned the concessions and had a great time.
I LOVE the Discovery Cove idea - have always wanted to go there, but tough with a family of 5!!

We are having a garage sale in May for the same reason! Any money we get will go to our Disney Fund. My son loves setting up his lemonade stand. I think he made more money last year then the rest of us. I guess people love giving money to little kids. Yard sales ARE fun though.

I have one every year and put it in the vacation fund....we usually do $1000.00. I sell my daughter's out grown toys and clothes and extra stuff we no longer use or want. During the neighorhood gargage sale last year my daughter sold pop, chips and cookies....we couldn't keep them in stock!!! No one wanted to stop to eat, it helped that it was June and HOT!!! Good luck!!!

I do something like that. I take my DD outgrown clothes to a consignment shop. Whatever I get for then goes into the fund. I figure every little bit helps. :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce:

Do you find you sell more at a yard/garage sale or at the flea market. I have 2 tons of baby clothes and other baby stuff. I am trying to decide where I would make the most money.

FWIW, we just did our first flea market last weekend. For 7 hours' work, we made over $200, and didn't have any nifty (i.e., money-making) stuff like baby items. It cost us $10 for our table (no $45 classified ads!), was indoors so even though it rained, we weren't busted, and all we had to do was bring in our stuff, set it up, and sit there. People didn't haggle like they do at our yearly garage sales -- we felt like we definitely got better prices for our stuff. It was obviously much less work than a garage sale! We booked two tables for September.
That being said, I also sell on ebay and am doing a garage sale with my best friend at her place in June. It will be interesting to see how we make out!
