Yep!! The THV are a new phase of SSR! That means if you own there you own THV too!
The POS allowed them to expand (or not) SSR and that's how the Carousel and Grandstand was added.
The best news about this is that for our family, SSR has so many desireable locations now that it really takes the edge off of not having booking categories. We love Congress Park, and the Springs and Grandstand and now THV.:thumbsup2

No official word on the point chart yet, but rumor is they will be close to the 2bed points. That would be awesome if true. The SSR 2bed points range from 243 to 415 a week!
I soooooo hope this is true.! It would be perfect for our family of 4 and we could invite guests and have plenty of room or not and have plenty of room with a dedicated living area.

I am very excited about THV! It's unfortunate they have to announce it on the same day as BLT. The BLT news has overshadowed the addition of THV to SSR. In my mind, having THV changes the everything. Other resorts have always had some kind of bragging rights (BCV has Stormalong Bay, OKW has big rooms at low cost, BWV has the Boardwalk, AKV has the animals, VWL has close proximity to MK). SSR now can brag that it has Treehouse Villas! How cool is that! My 11-month window at SSR will now be worth alot more. Maybe now more people can be proud of their ownership at SSR and not sell their points to buy into some other property. To be honest, even after looking at the videos of BLT, I don't see what the big deal is. It looks like one of the Westin Timeshare resort that I have been in. I won't mind staying there, but I don't see why I need to add on there.

What was really cool about the Treehouses way back in the day - was the ability to rent a golf cart, plug it into the house to charge it, drive it over to the restaurants, they had parking spaces with plugs, drive the cart to the pool. I wonder if this option will be available??

Will anyone else miss a king bed? I know I would!

We've loved the treehouse villas since we first saw them from the boat from what was then Dixie Landings (now Port Orleans-Riverside) back in 1996! I'm beyond excited...way more excited about this than BLT, altho I'm "fighting w/myself" over whether to add on there, too...
I think I may talk myself into some points at BLT just so I have enough points to do a week at T-giving every year at the Treehouse Villas! (I already have enough points for that, but a 3-br villa for two people (me and my college age son) is definitely "not needed!" And it would use up points I'm now using for other trips)...and I don't want to give up my "other" trips to Disney...so can you hear me convincing myself I "need" more points! I have enough at SSR (365) to make the T-giving trip to the THVs happen and then I can use the other (BLT) points for my "other" trips! Grin an expensive grin!
I think I can make myself wait a little while...not gonna call my guide today for sure...but it's an exciting day for DVC owners, especially those of us who love the THVs at SSR!

I am very, very excited about this!I have no interest at all in BLT. I could never see what all the fuss was about. Yes, it is close to the MK, but you have the Big Toaster right next door. I've always hated the sight of the CR. But the THV stir my imagination. I am so happy to be an SSR owner today!
Let me ask a question. Say we wanted to stay at the THV with other DVC friends. How would that work? Can you combine points? Is that possible?

Yes, you can. It's called a Points Transfer and you are allowed one transfer per member (or membership) per UY. In other words, your friends could each do one transfer of their points to your contract.

Congats to you SSR owners! We stayed at SSR in March and accidently walked over to the THVs (trying to find the bridge to DTD) and we all said how cool it would be to stay there.
So here is hoping that a lowly BCV owner can get a reservation at the 7 month window sometime in the future! :goodvibes Until then, I hope we get some great reports and pictures from those of you who get to book at the 11th month window once they open.
NOW if they would only include the cabins at FW as part of the VWL, we would love it (if we could get in at the 7th month window).

Im still surprised although I know they really did not have a choice. Considering the way they structured the OKW extension and made us "pay" if we wanted to extend.
It is like an add-on without the cost! A big one too considering we are sitting on over 600 SSR points. Love SSR and my family loves it too.
I am sooooo happy, I planned our points the way we did! We purchased enough BCV to be able to stay a week in any season in the largest unit. After that, we bulked up on SSR to be able to afford the GV in any season since BCV did not have GV's. Now all those SSR points have some real purchasing power!
We have never put more than 8 in a GV both times we've had one so having a 3 bedroom unit for the cost of an OKW GV (or less) will allow us to host family events in larger accomodations. I normally get 1 Grand Villa and studios, now I can get all THV's for the same or less points! The grills outside are perfect too!
We were going to start hosting family at HHI because of the lower points on the Grand villas, but now we can stay at WDW and have all the amenities.

At least now there's a reason to visit SSR. I could never find one before as my thoughts on the resort are that it's drab and boring. THV are certainly something I just may consider.
I'm very excited about this; however, I wouldn't go as far as calling it a free gift. We will be paying more in monthly dues for the refurbishment of these villas.
But, I love having options so giving us another choice of resort theme and accommodations is very welcome.

That would be heaven! I love FW. Until this year, we've used our DVC points for a campsite at FW for our long December trip and DVC resorts for our shorter stays. My ultimate dream would be if they could build a DVC resort between WL and FW that would include both campsites and cabins. The best of both worlds.

Even if they don't ever add the cabins, at least the THV will give us that camping/outdoors feeling. I always stayed at FW before joining DVC and have missed that atomsphere since we now stick to DVC resorts. Now I can get that again with the THV! :goodvibes

I think it may be a lttle tricky to do this, but not impossible. You are only allowed one (in or out) transfer per membership per use year. So you couldn't take 2 transfers in the same use year. But I think you could have one friend tranfer in to your membership in one use year and then when your use year changes, get the second friend to transfer their points to you.
Sorry, I can't help with the master bedroom question;)

Maintenance fees have gone up every year since SSR openend!
I've seen on other threads that MF usually increases 3.5-4% each year (avg for all resorts combined) . Also, MF cannot be increased by more than 5% (I think) in any year without owner approval. So we shoudn't expect any kind of outrageous increase, just the normal increase we see each year anyway! :rotfl:

Actually, the refurbishment and construction should be covered by the initial buy-in. These are additional points now available to additional members. It may, in fact, lower our MF's depending on how many additional points are released.

Just by quick calculation, if they sell 60 units @ 310 points (avg 2-Bdrm over the year by rough estimate) x 52 weeks, that is 967,200 more SSR points that the MF's will be spread over, so yes, MF's could actually decrease. At current rates, that's an additional $4 million a year in MF's. That should pay for most, if not all, of the additional busses, taxes, and housekeeping...

Let the games begin.
How nice of Disney to announce this little gem just before I head back down for my Fall trip. Have to say THV trumped BLT for me and my family.
I have a family trip planned for next June (last week). A big grand gathering which includes a dedicated 2bedroom for myself and my sister's family. Lots of drama with that one as my SILs are coming to in studios. I'm tempted to see if I can switch our 2bedroom for a THV and leave the SILs in studios elsewhere.
Of course the only linchpin is whether they make a unit ADA accessible. I'm envisioning a long ramp wrapping around the base of the treehouse. If Disney makes my dream come true then I can finally get my wish of living in a treehouse. I keep going by Swiss Family Robinson Treehouse in MK and staring longingly. I haven't been able to physically go in there since I was wee high and carried in my daddy's arms.
In any case, they are some beautiful units and a great addition to the resort. I'm feeling pretty good about doing all my add-ons at SSR the last couple years. Still an even 500 makes a good amount don'cha think? It's only 70 more measly points.

It is my guess that part of the reason they are not selling SSR/THV points yet is they have nothing to “show”. With the modules being delivered and assembled this month and next I a willing to be that they will be “rushing” one of the units to completion by the end of November to use for showing since it is just a quick jump over from the sales center.
With the size, cathedral ceiling, porch deck etc it would be hard to do it “justice” as a mock up.

I was also wondering this as our DS is totally confined to a wheelchair and wondered if the THV would be an option for us
As an SSR owner, I am thrilled with the new THV but that's my question, as well. And if they do, how many will be available?

I'm thinking that all they need to do is wrap a long ramp up and back next to the deck. Everything is all on one level to start with... just 10' up. They did away with the 3 levels for a much cleaner, easier to maintain design. Assuming this is their plan, they'll make the appropriate adjustments to the interiors for the few they do this to... but they'll be very hard to book I'm sure so the 11 month window would be nice.

just bought in this year and taking our first trip to SSR week after Thanksgiving. What great timing and hopefully we'll be able to get over for a look. Only misgiving is there are only 60 available. I can see SSR owners rushing to get them and there are a lot of us. I had heard about BLT for some time. This was a total surprise.
Any chance they'd add a boat dock for that boat that goes up and down the river? Would make it quick to get to DTD. Or are you still pretty close to DTD?
Again, first stay coming up. Have never stayed there.

I really wish they would add a ferry-stop at THV as well! That would make it so easy to get to DTD. I just never expected them to re-do the Treehouses; this makes owning points at SSR really exciting. I can't wait to stay in one!

Does anyone know if these will be handicapped accessible? Is there an elevator somewhere. I've seen the schematic but can't tell.

I am anxious for more information! DVC has so many questions to answer. I wish that they would have given us more information when they made the announcement! I am a very impatient person.

There is an existing boat dock, and someone found documents that were filed a while back for renovations on the dock, so I think it's looking good for THV to have their own ferry stop.

That's what I'm envisioning.
I've been slagging off with my research this week. Been too involved with work and politics. Plus I kinda didn't want to ask and just believe my fairy tale of staying there with my nephews next summer.
I'm driving down to Orlando this weekend. As soon as I get a chance, I'll be doing a little research. Common sense (and knowledge of ADA regs) tells me they have to provide access of some kind.
But I doubt we'll see many ADA units. Maybe 1 fully accessible (with roll-in shower and wheelchair access). Perhaps we'll get another with wheelchair access but no roll-in shower (the partially accessible type).
SSR currently has 4 accessible Grand Villas, I believe. Total is 36 GV's.
And yes, there will be a stampede to the THV's, I'm guessing.

There is both a ferry dock and bridge to DTD. I'm a little unclear where the ferry dock is but the bridge is visible from the pathway to OKW. I expect the ferry will run a loop from THV to AP to DTD to AP to THV to OKW and back again.

DVCnews sounds confident that THV points will simply follow the 2 bdrm SSR schedule. They said something like 'Points charts are expected to be identical to the current 2 bedroom villas at SSR'. Nothing official though. Kind of makes sense if you compare it to AKV. 2 brs in Kidani Villiage- they Sleep 9 (as opposed to 8 in Jambo) and they have an extra bathroom and the points are the same for either. Compare THV to regular ssr 2 bdrm- They sleep 9 instead of 8 and have an extra bedroom, same number of baths.
And I also saw that they will have their own ferry stop.
Can't wait, hope they are ready for our Aug 09 trip!

I am VERY excited too! My kids will love the Treehouse Villas and it's about as close to camping as I would like to get! We are very lucky that these are part of SSR. As another person posted, it's like getting a "bonus" without having to buy into another resort. We may not have SAB but we have the Treehouse Villas!
ETA: I think it's also great that they sleep 9--especially if you really don't need the huge GV. If they price the THV similar to a 2BR, it's going to be a great deal for us!

I KNOWWWW! I am waiting for ROFR on one of those low priced SSR contracts right now. I made the offer about 2 weeks before the big news. If I knew about THVs when I made the offer, I would have probably thrown a little extra cash into the deal. I think Disney is going to buy mine back :( .

Congrats to all the SSR owners! Honestly, I thought it looked like a lovely resort when we were down there and passed by, and wasn't sure why so many who hadn't even stayed there were negative about it. I was already planning to visit when we go in Dec., and now if I take the boys and they find out they're part of SSR they'll want to stay for sure (we saw the old ones on the boat trip from POR last Oct. and thought they were very cool)!
When we can add on again we may have to consider SSR even more than we were before ;).

I'm glad all you SSR owners are excited about THV.
The addition of THV adds an interesting new option to SSR stays.

At least now there's a reason to visit SSR. I could never find one before as my thoughts on the resort are that it's drab and boring. THV are certainly something I just may consider.
I completely agree. The only thing I even considered nice about SSR was the spa. But with the treehouses???? Wait until DH and DS get home from camping with the Scouts. We may have to visit before 2010 when our next vacation is planned. I'm curious about the point value too....
