I should say we followed hurricane Frances around the caribbean in 2004 on a Disney ship. The weather wasn't great but the movement of the boat was minimal. We had a great time. I think its just luck of the draw

We went thru TS Fay last month on Soveriegn of the seas. No problems a bit rocky and lashing rain but we got thru it. All part of the fun of cruising:goodvibes

Thanks Mick, that's all I needed to read after just booking, although hopefully there will be no hurricanes in December. :scared1:
I haven't sailed for a few years, last time was on a seacat to Ostend. Was fine when we left then it suddenly got very rough, all the bars and restaurants were shut down because food and drink was flying everywhere and nearly everyone was throwing up. it took me a day or two to recover.

Hi,
It wasn't so much the weather I was referring to, ships can avoid that, but the fact that you could end up at different port to the one you left and have to find your own way back. Also your hire car could be a write off. Just a thought.

Most cruise lines I thought (well definately Disney) provide transport back to your home port just for these circumstances, although some may not. Definately when we went we were told a few days before we might be leaving Fort Lauderdale but that if we drove to Port Canaveral there would be buses waiting to take us there and if needed pick us up and bring us back. Dont know if this policy has changed since then or not

If you worried buy the travel sickness bands! They work a wonder! We did a transatlantic on the Magic last year and the weather was awful (waves so high they closed the family pool as it had its own wave effect which made over 6 foot waves - a guy stood next to the pool got soaked while we were watching). They worked a treat just remember to not take them off!
Also if its a Disney cruise they give you free sea sickness tablets from the sickbay (they are in a tub outside) and these work well. Most other cruise companies charge for them so buy them before you go in Boots.

Mick you worry too much:rotfl2: :rotfl2:
As Sarah says they have lines of buses waiting to take you back to the original port. Or if your departure port can't be used they have buses waiting there to take you to the new port.

Hi,
I'm not worried at all I was just posting info in the two links in my original post. Two Carnival ships were due to dock at Galveston but instead docked at New Orleans. Only passengers who had booked air travel through Carnival were offered alternative flights everyone else had to make their own arrangements or stay on the ship until the port reopens. It is thought that all the vehicles at Galveston were either damaged by the storm or by loooters. I wasn't specificaly referring to Disney just posting as general information as to what could happen, it was certainly something I hadn't thought about until I read the articles.

Thanks for that!!!!!!!
We go on our Disney Cruise on the 28 Sep.
With regards to getting stranded at a different port, I kept an eye out on what Disney did during the latest ones and they laid buses on so not worrying!!!

Thanks gismo. The kids use those travel sickness bands when going on a long journey in the car or going on coaches etc and they really do seem to work. DW and I don't tend to suffer but then we've never been on a cruise before so we might get some for us to be on the safe side.

Are you sure they are wearing them in the right place? Sound crazy I know but when I was on the cruise I had them in the wrong place the first day. Someone in the spa ended up putting them on me the right way! If you don't get the ball bit in the right bit of your wrist they don't work

I said that they DO work :thumbsup2
The first time they used them they didn't have them in the right place but they know exactly how to position them now, how many fingers up the wrist etc. I feel they are better to use than tablets that can give you side affects.
