Someone out there must know point values for the new THV's!
I went to the points calculator hoping to try the same wizardry as all you BLT fans, and no dice.
Anyone?:confused3

According to my sources, the Treehouses will be priced the same as current SSR Two Bedroom villas. It would seem that the extra space / privacy (third bedroom) is viewed as a trade-off for the remoteness of the treehouses.
Good luck getting these rooms at 7 months!! :cool1:

Don't they only sleep up to 9 people??? Sounds a like a 2BR villa to me as well.

Yeah, but they are actually three bedroom villas (with bunk beds in the 3rd room, no less), larger dining area, full porch...DVC could easily have created a separate category a few points higher than the Two Bedroom.

Bunk beds? I thought the picture I saw said a queen in each of the 2 bedrooms besides the master.

Well, I guess that's where "subject to change" comes into play. :goodvibes
With that info from February we were just making educated guesses based upon blurry public filings and past history. According to today's announcement (http://dvcnews.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=612&Itemid=1)there will be queen beds in two of the bedrooms and bunk beds in the third (look toward the bottom of the page linked.)

No King in the master bedroom? Really? That would be a downgrade from any other DVC location, wouldn't it?

Ohhh at 2BR points it will definitely be attractive to some! Thank goodness for the 11mth window. We'll definitely give it a try March 2010, but I'm wondering what the remoteness will be like, especially being so far away from the amenities. Can't wait to try!

Tree house villas for the price of a two bedroom?? Holy cow, theres a deal!!!
I would love to stay in one of these. As a kid, I remember staying with my family at (I am guessing) the disney institute? (Does anyone remember these? What were they called?) They were brown town house/ ugly condo looking thingys.
Anyways, the ugly brown condos were very close to the treehouse villas, and I was just fascinated about them as a kid. I was also very jealous of everyone whipping along the road in the little golf carts.
That is great news for SSR I think, and what a strategy on the part of DVC management- almost shocking ;)

I am very proud to be a SSR owner today:)
Question..Tim, perhaps you can verify...THV..separate entity or APART of SSR, are separate contracts being sold just for THV?
One article it reads separate....
So, will the original owners of SSR, be considered owners of THV?
Our family is looking forward to that 11 mth booking window! We recently had friends, who havent been to Disney in years, tell the kids all about these villas "in the old days"..lol
Thanks for any clarification..as I have not been able to catch up on all these new threads today!!

Well, Studios have queen beds. But I believe you're correct that they would be the only non-Studio with a queen bed in the master.
Again, I think this is just some of the trade-off involved in such a unique property. On the plus side, you get the privacy of three bedrooms, extra living space, much larger porch and the relatively low points. Among the downsides would be the smaller bed in the master and relative isolation of these units.
Subjectively I'm sure there will be many different opinions on whether or not they are of interest to folks.

Fairway Villas. Nasty looking things, weren't they? :sad2:
"The Grandstand" at SSR is built where the Fairway Villas used to stand. They were just bulldozed about 3 years ago.

The Sentinel article refers to the treehouses as another phase of Saratoga Springs. If they weren't being introduced as part of SSR proper, I'm certain Disney would have gone to greater lengths to illustrate that.
It would be akin to making Jambo and Kidani separate resorts at AKV.
Plus there really isn't any benefit to DVC to making them a separate property. Having an 11-month booking window for the Two Bedroom Treehouses ONLY is limiting enough to hurt sales. And I can't imagine there are people thinking to themselves "well, I wouldn't mind owning a part of the Treehouses but not if they are part of SSR..." :confused3

I love my King Sized bed, but I could definitely see where a 3 bedroom option that is cheaper than the Grand Villas will be wildly popular.
We currently stay in a 1 bed and enjoy DTD. I was just thinking we are going to start upgrading to 2 beds because we like to enjoy the living area as a family. Twice we've utilized the GV's and put less than 12 because the bigger the group the more living space you need. We didnt want anyone on the couch.
Now we can have 3 bedrooms, even when it's just us, still be close to DTD and not too far to the amenities.
Im thinking they will add a boat dock?
It may impact bus service to have that many stops though.
Hopefully they will add a pool or something over there, but if not, we will still stay! It will be like the campgrounds without the camping thing!:goodvibes

Wow, 3 BR villas that sleep 9 with same point values as the 2 BR's? Holy crap these are going to be hard to book!
But this will be great for a family reunion. Wow! Everyone gets their own bedroom! :cheer2:

Here is a link to an article and photos from Brian Bennett at MousePlanet. This will give a glimpse of what the old Treehouses were like - they were originally built in the early 70's as part of the Disney Village Resort, later to become the Disney Institute and now home to SSR (but with all new residential buildings).
The original Treehouses had 3 BRs, but only slept 6 with a Queen in the master BR, a Queen in the 2nd and Double in the third. The new THVs will be a little larger with a smaller foundation footprint.
Treehouse Villas (http://www.mouseplanet.com/dtp/wdwguide/4_Accommodations/VDI_photo_tour_treehouse_villas.htm)
You can also find a link to the old Fairway Villas, Townhouses and Grand Vista Homes (built as an early version of Walt's original concept for WDW - certainly a predecessor of Celebration) -all gone now and home to SSR.

I'm going to call each and every day until i can book! Then once i book (and only after I've confirmed my own reservation) will I post something here letting all know that THVs are available for booking!! :rotfl:
I'm honestly proud to say that I'm an SSR ownder!!! Wooohooo!

I'm fairly confident that DVC will follow past practice and give SSR owners a special booking window. Once they know exactly when the treehouses will open, DVC will announce that SSR owners have a special window of 1-2 weeks to book any dates from opening thru 11 months out. After that special window has passed, non-owners will be able to book whatever remains that's within 7 months of arrival.

Thanks for the info Tim regarding the Fairway Villas
I took the link that WebmasterDoc gave, and took a little trip down memory lane. Gosh, they were ugly. I remember the pool looking like that too - I think I was only about 8 when we went.
Who says little kids cant remember their Disney TRips! :lmao:

If the points for these ends up being the same as the 2-bedroom at SSR...I think I'd have to consider buying at SSR! I've got 440 pts at Boardwalk, but I am positively drooling over the Treehouses, and I know those 60 are going to be gone long before I can book them. If they cost the same as a 2-bedroom, that's the clincher.
These things sound as if they were designed specifically for me and my family/friends. For many years, we had an annual family/friends gathering at the Cabins at Fort Wilderness, and love the quiet, woodsy, retreat feeling of those. Once we got into DVC, even though our party is rarely ever more than 4 people to a villa, we still feel slightly cramped by a 2-bedroom villa, but never felt like the Grand villas were worth it for 4 people. Our main problem is that none of us want to sleep in the same room - we all want our privacy! We are all adults, all single, and mixed sexes - family and friends - sharing a place. With the 2-bedroom, we have to put two people in one room, one in the other, and one gets the living room. But with the Treehouse design, 3 separate bedrooms and a living room with sleeping accomodations is absolute perfection (as would be a Grand Villa...but those cost so much more).
And of course the history - having stayed in the old Treehouses when I was a kid! And I stayed in the big villas that later became Disney Institute that later got replaced by SSR...though they were indeed ugly, they were huge inside and that was the first experience with having a resort close enough to walk to Marketplace. Though the Pleasure Island music and fireworks back in the early days were quite loud from there - they weren't built as solid and soundproof as SSR, and Pleasure Island had alot more late-night and outdoor music back then.
With the treehouses, we could get our woodsy retreat back, spend points for a 2-bedroom but everyone in the group gets their own room, and still get our lovely boats to downtown disney...I want one!
BLT sounds neat, and modern, and brutally expensive if early points rumours are to be believed...and I'd certainly like to try it (I like to stay at all the DW DVC resorts at least once)...but it's the Treehouses that shivers me timbers!

Back in the late 80's when it was still the Disney Village Resort, you could get full room service out in the Treehouses and other villas. It arrived in a specially outfitted golf cart. We thought it was pretty cool.
The buildings may look ugly now, but they were pretty much top of the heap back then. And the Treehouses had washer/dryers - a real luxury.

I always wanted to stay in these as a kid and never got a chance before they shut down. Now with them coming back and as part of SSR I couldn't be happier. If they are truly the price of a 2 BDR then my crew will be staying there. Probably next October, and I would make full use of the special booking window for SSR owners. Finally something we can claim as SSR owners that's special and our very own.
