Tesco Clubcard Vouchers & Airmiles

Can someone please explain to me how it works? Do you have to save up the whole amount or can you just save say half? Is it only BA you can fly with? If you transfer your points into airmiles do they expire? How can you collect more points? Is it a good scheme?

To be honest I have no idea but having converted the vouchers for use in other sitations there is a helpine telephone number on the back of your club card and I am sure they will be able to help you :thumbsup2

You can book flights with Airmiles either in full including taxes (around 7000 air miles MAn - MCO), or they have miles plus cash as well e.g. MAN - MCO 4,200 miles pklus £235 or 2,100 miles plus £375 (cash includes taxes).

I think that Air Miles has a BA stake in it's ownership, and generally tends to offer BA flights as the first option, but I have also seen flights offered on other carriers as well.

Tesco Clubcard Deals is one way to get to Orlando for less cash but you have to do your sums!

Using Tescos you can either convert your vouchers to Airmiles and use with a variety of carriers (inc BA)

Alternatively you can convert your vouchers to Virgin Holidays vouchers which is what we have done for our trip next summer.

With Virgin you can either full or part pay for your holiday but you need to have a certain number of deals vouchers before it stacks up as a viable option financially, this is because you do not qualify for the online discount or other special promotions when using clubcard deals - therefore if you were booking a 3K holiday the online discount is £150 and so it wouldn't be worth paying £100 in Tesco deals.

When booking with Virgin Holidays using Tesco deal you can't book a standard flydrive - you have to book accommodation for the duration of your trip. We found that Virgins Villas were overpriced and we didn't like not knowing the specific location so what we did was book a complete package with the cheapest available accommodation and we will then just not use it. This worked for us as we paid the complete Virgin bill with clubcard tokens (£2880) and we will pay cash for our accommodation.

I don't know a great deal about Airmiles but I found a site called www.paidtoshop.co.uk from a link on these boards and it has really helped me to understand the clubcard system and get the most out of it so instead of realistically being able to afford WDW every 4-5 years we will be able to go every 2-3 years (We have to go in school summer holidays which puts the price up and mid way through a major house rennovation an annual WDW trip is completely out of the budget range!)

We've been looking at airmiles as we only need the flights now but to me it doesnt look like a great option - clubcard deals are generally worth 4 x the value of your voucher, but with airmiles it works out pretty expensive flights. Several people have suggested booking the cheapest package deal with Virgin Holidays (I Drive somewhere) and simply not turning up for your accomodation?! Ive never done it so i cant comment.

If you are looking to collect airmiles though, several credit cards offer points as well as the homebase spend and save card.

Yes - our holiday for Christmas and New Year was paid for by converting our deals to Virgin Holidays (£3300) and it was no trouble at all.

We've just booked and in a slight twist on a straight voucher deal you could do what we did.

We noticed that flights direct with Virgin Atlantic are less than the component elements of Virgin Holidays especially when flying Premium Economy.

So with full knowledge by of Virgin Holidays who didn't care, we booked 1 person on a 3 week holiday with a 5 bed villa and used £800 vouchers to subsidise.

Then booked the other 2 adults and 2 children on Virgin Atlantic on the same flight.

All in and partly because of the extra margin on Premium Economy, we saved £1800 by booking in two chunks + the £800 from Tesco vouchers.

There is a small risk associated, we might not get to sit together and if the flight gets cancelled we may no even be on the same flight but worth £1800 as that is annual passes for all of us and some spends.

We booked Christmas at WDW via clubcard vouchers with Virgin Holidays and it cost around £2500 in total, we then upgraded to Premium economy on the return and paid the extra. Very easy to do, and thought it looked a better deal than converting to airmiles.

ok so say if I want to start saving up my clubcard vouchers to pay for a Virgin Holiday to Florida, do I have to contact Tesco to let them know so that they don't send me the money off vouchers when my statement is due?

I'm seriously considering ditching the nectar card and starting to concentrate more on my Tesco clubcard if it means that in a couple of years I might have enough for a free trip :yay:

Also would love to know how you amass thousands of them so quickly ;)

There are lots of ways to get plenty of points but the main things i learnt from that website are -

1. Make sure eceryone in your household has their own clubcard - me and DH used to have 2 cards for the same clubcard account. Whilst this is not a problem in itself it means you only get one mailing each time. Whereas 2 accounts = 2 mailings with the extra point vouchers on.

2. Join the clubs - healthy living, baby and toddler, wine club etc. All send mailings out each quarter with extra points voucher. Make sure each account registers too so each card gets a mailing.

3. Tesco clubcard credit card - everything we buy goes on this and we pay it straight off. Make sure this isnt linked to your existing clubcards as then you get an extra mailing for this.


Most people probably know about these things but what paidtoshop helps with are the glitches! for example in a baby and toddler club mailing you get 4 or 5 different vouchers for extra points if you buy certain types of nappies. What you would learn from paid to shop is that if you purchased 1 pack of tesco nappies - £1.80 odd you can use all of the vouchers together. (about 600 points)

600 points is a £6 voucher or £24 in deals for a spend of a few pound.

If my wife and I are to have separate club cards how does that get us extra vouchers for holidays? I thought that if the cards are in separate names they cannot be used together. We have a Tesco credit card and pay all bills we can on this. It is then paid off each month. We now use the credit card to collect points not the clubcard. Is it worth paying with the credit card then using the clubcard for points or vice versa? Do you think it would be worth my wife applying for a credit card or clubcard in her own name? :confused3

When you convert your clubcard vouchers that you get sent in your mailings into virgin deals vouchers these come with your surname printed on them. Some deals now also have your postcode. You can use vouchers with the same name from different clubcard accounts on the same booking, you can also use vouchers with different names on but only if those names are traveling. So if you Mr Smith want to take your mother in law Mrs Jones with you to Florida you can convert all her clubcard vouchers and all yours and use them against your booking. However she could not convert her Mrs Jones vouchers and give them to you if the booking was just for the Smith family.

Hope this helps. i really recommend Paid to Shop. My average Tesco mailing before joining was £15 - £20 in vouchers, since joining I have got between £125 and £228 in vouchers every quarter.

I can also recommend the credit card - loads of points, we pay off every month and get the points for "nothing". Haven't used ours to go to Florida yet - but flew to Orkney this summer for nothing (airmiles do not require you to pay any cash surcharges/fees/etc - unlike other frequent flyer programmes.. virgin miles etc..) and staying in London this half term for nothing too....

Thanks for everyones help. I read the terms and conditions at the weekend and it said you had to BOOK the holiday within the 6 month validilty of the voucher, does this mean you can only ever use 6 months worth of vouchers for a holiday?

From what I've been told on PTS over the weekend when you convert your regular Clubcard Vouchers to Deal Vouchers it's the Deal Vouchers that are valid for 6months.

But I think the Clubcard ones are valid for about 2yrs so you keep saving them up and then when you have all you need, then you convert to Deals and from then you have 6months to spend your Deals HOWEVER, your holiday could be in 12months time but that's fine as long as you SPEND your Deals within the 6months.

I always thought that, but my parents always get better points vouchers than me - they always get the big ones on wine and grocery shopping and the bigger ones in the main mailing. (Even though they always shop online) and they get less points than me :rolleyes:
