Hi all. DH had his birthday August 22. We've planned our trip since January and wanted to wait till September for free dining and kids back in school. Can we still ask for a b-day button or is this pushing it? Thanks,

Technically if you are celebrating a birthday then you may ask for a birthday button. Disney doesn't ask for proof that it is a birthday. For instance we were in Disney a week after my birthday a few years ago, but the trip was specifically my "birthday trip" so I wore my birthday button proudly the entire week.
You will have lots of people--CM's and guests, saying Happy Birthday to you while you wear the button. As long as you are comfortable with that then go for it!

all you have to do is go ask for one or ask the YOMD people for them. Like was already said no proof is asked for. I have had people in my party wear them the week of their b-day. They get a lot of "happy birthdays." But sometimes they get cooler stuff too. One of the people that I work with had a daughter with one got a free cookie from one of the shops. I was there with my family and my niece and nephem both had b-days that week and they got a free dessert with their meal. It can be a lot of fun.
Have Fun!
