It will be here before we know it, yet no one has posted a thread!

The exciting thing is that we will be there on Valentine's Day:lovestruc

Does anyone know if there are any special events on this day? Will the Kids' Club be full with parents wanting some alone time?

Can't wait!

allright, another MSU fan onboard. Go Spartans!

Looks like our cruise is at a busy time in the area....there's a Space shuttle launch still scheduled for Feb 12 and of course Sunday the 15th is the Daytona 500...I am not looking forward to the drive north on I-95 on Sunday morning...

Wow! I hope the shuttle launch will go on Feb 12. What a great way to start a cruise.

Did not know so many things were going on this weekend. We better rent our car now, before the prices start going up.....Go Green!

Hello, my name is Kathryn and I'm a Disney Magic addict.

That should say it all....however, because the dates work better, I think we're going to do back to back Wonder cruises. DD is reasonably happy--she will turn 18 on the Wonder and be able to do Palo. However, she will no longer be able to say that all her Disney cruises have been "Magical!"

So...it looks like we'll be joining you.

My kids will be very surprised. They think that we are going in Aug.

We love cruising. This is our first cruise on Disney. We wanted to try it before the kids got too old.

They are the ones who convinced us to book.

Our last cruise was a 7 night in Jan.
I am worried that the 3 night will go by so fast. But, the dates work out so perfectly. My kids will only miss one day of school.

My DD will be very excited to hear there are other girls on our cruise.

We went in Jan. with my DS's friend and his family. She was upset that we wouldn't bring a friend for her.

We meet a few people on the cruise meet board. She had some friends before the cruise even started. She makes friends very easily.

My DH's office is in Livonia. Its located in the office building attached to Laurel Park Place mall.

Do we want to do anything like fish extenders or a dis-meet? Or do we figure that it's such a short cruise that we don't want to bother?

They haven't done cabin assignments yet, so no one knows about an upgrade. If you booked into a specific stateroom, that room will be showing on the computer. If you booked as a gty, you will not see an assignment yet. Cabin assignments (including upgrades) are usually done about 30 days before sailing. People with gty cabins can be moved again any time up to sailing....and upgrades can occur after that but are much more rare. Most people find out at about the 30 day mark on line or when their documents arrive.

A fish extender is a small bag or fabric piece with multiple pockets...usually one for each person sailing. The "fish" is the holder by the stateroom door that is used by crew to place memos, letters, etc. for people in the cabin. The "fish extender" hangs from the fish. On some cruises, dis-ers have set up small exchanges as surprises....the group agrees to a one item per person or a price limit, forms a list of participating cabins, and at some point you go around and put your gifts in the fish extenders. It is fun to return to your cabin and find treasures.

SOme of the things we've given/recieved were small highlighters (great for navigators), magnets, anything Disney related, pens, pencils, notepads, individually wrapped candies, temporary tattoos, pirate eye patches, kid drink cups, post card of the Magic in one of the ports we visited, etc. The idea isn't to be expensive--it is to have fun. Usual sources of this stuff is dollar stores, after Christmas sales, etc. There are several posts of much larger exchanges than I've ever been a part of. On our last cruise, we had 9 cabins with a total of 23 people involved. Some groups do to by cabin, some by person, some by kids....whatever. It's a fun idea especially on longer cruises.

Check out the regular cruise forum section of the boards. We are DCL freaks. We've done the Magic 17 times, but this will be our first "Wonderful" time. I suspect your teen will love Aloft (DD loves the Stack). Nice to know that there will be another teen on board.

We did The Magic on President's week last year. They had a list of teens 5 pages long. The CM commented that the week before, they'd had 18 teen on board. Personally, I like the smaller groups. I don't know what to say as to basic advise--read the forum, and feel free to ask any questions!

We actually like the cruise a lot more than the parks. Don't get me wrong--we like the parks...but I joke that the cruise is a "mom vacation." In the parks, you still have to deal with where you are eating, is everybody getting to do some of the things they want to (kids squabbling over which park to do that day, etc.) On the cruise all the food is "pre paid." If you child gets something he/she doesn't like to eat, they can order something else--no charge. It's a great time to try new things! Each person can do what he/she wants--do you want to do family veggie racers while brother or sister is in the Lab? No problem! And there's a lot less walking than at the parks.

One bit of advise. Just as you can't see all of WDW in a few days, there is no way you can possibly do all there is on the ship. And that doesn't even count the islands. Remember to relax and have a great time--don't try to do it all. If you like it, you can come back.

And...if you want to come back, remember the benefits of re-booking while on board.

My kids love to cruise, too.
We asked them if they wanted to go to WDW this year. They said they wanted to go on DCL.

This is our first Disney cruise. We are looking forward to it. We have been on RCCl, NCL, HAl, and Carnival.

What is so wonderful about crusieing is the kids think that they are getting a vacation away from mom and dad. Both kids enjoy goign to the kid programs and meeting new friends.

Almost a year ago we went on the DCL first(Magic) and then to WDW for another week for the very first time. Before the trip, I thought I would enjoy the cruise much more than WDW but I had a really hard time on the cruise AT FIRST. After I relaxed a bit, got familiar with the ship and saw land, I started to enjoy it. But my kids are and were small and my youngest was not old enough and potty trained to be in the Kid's Club. My daughter was only 5 and could not stay longer than 2 hours. We also had late seating and that all combined made it really hard for us. I noticed that the happiest people were those who had older children.

Now we are going back and the kids should hopefully do better in the kid's club although there may not be many opportunities to put them in there. With it being just a 3 night cruise, we may only have the evenings to drop them off but you don't want them to miss the shows.:scared1:

Also, does anyone know if Valentine's Day will be our semi formal night?

I hope that everyone had a terrific holiday.I got strep for Christmas!

We celebrated Christmas with my stepdads family on Sat. Dec 20. My lovely sister told me that her 1yr old wasn't feeling well. But, they decided to come anyway.
During the party, he got sick. But, she stayed.

On Christmas Eve, we all went to my grandmas. When we arrived, my cousin told me to stay away from my nephew (7). Apparently, he had gotten sick in the car on the way. BUt, my sister decided to come anyway.

I woke up that night so sick. I was running a temp. Well, I did not go to Christmas dinner. I stayed home. My sister and BIL were sick, too. There other son(9) got sick. They thought it was strange that I stayed home. I have been in bed since Christmas eve (excepy for the dr on Sat.) Today is the first day I sorts feel normal.

I feel bad because I spoke with my grandma this afternoon. She has some of the symptoms. I feel bad becasue my grandparents are 85 years old. This is the last thing that they need to get.

Hello everyone! Just thought I'd introduce myself as my best friend and I will be joining y'all for this weekend cruise.

This will be the first Disney Cruise for both of us, and her first cruise ever! We both graduated from college last May and this will be the first time we've seen each other since graduation. We're very excited - we've been planning a Disney Cruise for over two years now.

Typical times for a DIS meet are 3 or 3:30 either by the Goofy pool (pick a side!) so that the kids can swim or by Studio Sea. It's easier to find each other by Studio Sea, but the pool tends to be more fun (also noisier). If you do the pool, either plan to wear something green (scarf, hat, lanyard?) or get the green Mickey name tags from Home Depot paint department and put them in/on your lanyards. It just helps to identify each other.

If the goal is for the kids to identify other kids, some e-mail correspondence in advance can be helpful.

We got back home, checked our messages and found out we were upgraded from an inside stateroom(cat. 11) to an ocean view(cat 8)! :cool1:

As DVC members we were a little bummed about not being upgraded when it seems cash ressies get upgraded often. I think having a window will make a big difference!

For those of you who have dined at Palo's.....is it necessary to wear a suit and tie? Can a man get away with wearing a nice shirt without a tie, such as a Tommy Bahama? thanks!

It's getting closer!:cheer2:

We just booked a private airboat tour for the 4 of us on Wed. We are looking forward to it. This will be our excursion since we are not getting off the ship in Nasssua.

We asked the kids if they wanted to do WDW. They said no:confused3 .

Very cool on the airboat tour. I think that would be great fun.

Hello Feb 12-15 disboard cruisers: :wave2:

I think it would be great to meet some of our disboard friends so we can at least say hello around the ship. Also, might be nice for our kids to meet others as it looks like a few are similar ages.

First what do you think meeting, and second where and when? This is our first cruise so those who may have more experience please help if interested.

I was thinking something like 3 p.m. by the goofy pool on embarkation day but have no idea if this is a good time or place.

Our cast is:

Me- Scott
DS 15 - Reid
DS 9 - Brett

What do you all think? :confused3

This will be our 19th cruise on DCL, our second on the Wonder. THe standard meeting place/time is 3 pm or 3:30 on embarkation day, either by Goofy pool (pick a side, port or starboard), or by Studio Sea (not so good cuz the kids can't swim!)

I'd vote for 3 pm, starboard side of the Goofy pool.

There will be 2 of us sailing, me (Kathryn) and DD Koren 18

I'm going with the experienced cruiser here.

Let's plan on 3 p.m., starboard side of the Goofy pool.

Thanks Kathryn.

OK, some other Dis board thoughts. If you go to Home Depot, they have a display of Disney branded paints with paint chips in the shape of Mickey heads. Some people like to get the appropriate shade of green and use them for name tags in their lanyards. It makes a way to identify each other as dis-board people. On one cruise there were so many of us that the cruise director gave us a "shout out" at the first night's show.

Some groups go all out--green t-shirts, lanyards, etc. I'll do name tags for my group, but that's about it. Getting a teen to wear anything that wasn't HER idea is impossible.

I could see doing the name tags also but my 15 year old sounds like your 18 year old. He'll only wear what he thinks is cool.

Is it the lime green?

Yes, the traditional dis-board color is lime green. I have no idea why.

We're snowed in.....but 2 weeks from now I'll be "Wondering!"

I just found out there will be several movie choices as well as a new movie out just that week. Below is a list of movies they indicated would be showing:

WallE
HSM 3
Beverly Hills Chihuahua
Morning Light
Bedtime Stories
Bolt (3D)
Hanna Montana
and opeing Feb 13 Confessions of a Shopaholic.

Just an FYI. I'm sure we'll have other things going on but if you need some downtime.

See you in a 10 days. :cool1:

Thanks for the movie info. Marina has been wanting to see Beverly HIlls chi..

Marina had the flu last week and missed 6 days of school. I was so worried that we would get it and we would not be allowed on the ship.
Fortunately, no one else got it.

We are making our final plans for next week. We double checked with the kids to confirm that they have not changed their minds about not going to WDW. Still, don't want to go.

We are going airboating. Matt would like to parasail on Cocoa Beach if the weather is nice. ( I would have to go ,too since he is only 70lbs.) I am not sure if I want to go.

When is everyone leaving.
We are leaving on Monday after school.(Driving) arriving Tuesday night.

We did parasailing a couple years ago at the Contemporary Resort and had a great time. My DW went with older DS and I went with younger DS. We would all go again without hesitation.

We are leaving Tuesday morning and arrive in Orlando at 2:55 p.m. A friend is picking us up at the airport and we're just hanging out. Picking up rental car Wed morning and off to the Port.

Fyi, just saw in the paper that the space shuttle lauch scheduled for February 12 has been postponed for about a week. :sad1:

The good news, however is that we able to sleep in just a little bit longer Thursday Morning;)

My Dh will be dissapointed. He just checked online line the other day and iy was still launching on the 12th.

We live close to DTW. I wish now we were flying. DD(MArina) hates to fly. We try to avoid it if possible. Last year, we had planned to drive but had to fly becasue Erik could not get off work. Marina cried the whole flight because of the pressure in her ears and they did not feel better after we landed.

We don't mind driving because we sight see along the way.
Erik gets to stop in Kentucky for alchol (bourbon) on the way home.:thumbsup

Erik was looking at book a 7night for October onboard. Matt(DS) says he wants to wait because he is not sure if he wants to go on another cruise this year. (We like to cruise during cold weather and the last week of Aug. go on a road trip)

Last year, we camped at Taquamonah Falls. Visited Pictured Rocks, Whitefish point, the Bear Ranch and other local spots. We even made them go to a cranberry farm:rolleyes2 .

The kids have a good time because usually we have a group that will go with us. Our friends were already asking us where we are going this year.

Two years ago, we went to Kentucky to The Cumberland Falls State Park for the "moonbow", rafted under the falls, horseback riding, hiking. Visited Natural bridge State Park. Then, we camped at Mammoth Cave for a few nights. The kids had a great time on the cave tours, hiking and the alpine slide.

After a 4+ day period with no power and sleeping on a church floor, we are back home and warm. I can't tell you how ready I am to be on a cruise ship and be warm and not have to worry about anything!

I'm getting packed, doing laundry, etc.

Glad to hear your back home. No power for 4 day would not be fun, but a Disney Cruise or two for you is just what you need. See you next week in SUNNY Flordia.

Yes...we had 4 inches of snow, then a nasty ice storm, and then another several inches of snow. It was actually very pretty, but the ice snapped all the power lines.
