Does anyone know if we can buy a bottle of wine at the duty free in the airport and take it on the plane? I'm not quite sure how this works or if you can do this.

You will not be able to purchase wine at the airport duty free unless you are boarding an international flight.

You could-but then it would have to be put inside your suitcase.

To be clear it would have to go inside your checked luggage. You would not be able to clear security with anything more than a 3oz/100ml bottle.

When you check out at the Peace Bridge Duty Free (in Fort Erie), ask them to put your bottle in a bubble wrap envelope. We do that for customers who are travelling by air. (Yes I work there)
I'll be doing that in 3 days myself when we head down for our first family trip to WDW.
