Thank you for your thoughts...I agree with a lot of what you've said....this thread is, indeed, unique (at least from my experience) because there are more different groups of folks who have sailed together in the past than I have ever seen in my limited experience on the DIS---and it is easy for that to start to feel a little "clique-y" (and I'm a high school cheerleading coach----so believe me I KNOW me some cliques!! :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: )---and I think that all of us from all the previous cruise groups are feeling the same way...and perhaps even doing it to each other without realizing it or intending to do so----because I, too, have often felt unwelcome...in fact, I have participated in this thread far less than any other meet thread I've ever been on before, for that very reason....and as I read more and more posts from folks on here I'm realizing that others are feeling the same way and that is unfortunate and unnecessary.

So I absolutely agree that it's time to wipe the slate clean, remember why we participate in the DIS and start planning on having the journey of a lifetime together!

It is horrible when you post and nobody seems to notice, our last thread, every single person(exept one) welcomed a new people, it was really sweet.
Now, and I am laughing when I type this(again i will say that is the trouble with typing) I think another cruise thread had me on ignore.:rotfl:
They kept on saying we will do ~~~~~ and I would say what is ~~~~~ I wasnt on the last cruise with you all, now I am not easily put off(like a terrrier some would say) and I persevered but it is diff to get into it with a big thread.Last week I nearly was scared away from this thread, I am so glad I wasnt!!
BuT I love to chat and I do it because I love to meet new folks.:chat:

Oh Come on now , Its a DRY Heat ..:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: , I take off everything and it still doesnt seem to help , but I prefer the heat over the cold , I love the snow , but only during the Holiday and only fresh fallin snow ...not that dirty side of the road stuff ..LOL

pirate:

You take EVERYTHING off?!!? Remember this is a PG board:lmao: Kidding, kidding.
I like snow when I do not have to shovel it. Last year was the second snowiest winter on record here. The plow driver we hire could not push the snow with his truck after we got a huge storm (20 inches) which was immediately followed by hard rain and then froze into ice before dawn. It was miserable and nothign other than a front end loader could break thourgh it on the driveways. We have one four wheel drive which we could get in and out but the Focus did not leave the garage for 5 weeks. The kids and I went so stir crazy:sad2: I think I may have taken your dry heat then:rotfl2:

Hi Leonard or Lynn (I can't tell which one of you is posting:) ) I am glad you were not scared off. I am also glad I am not the only person who got a pretty high post count before realizing what tags were:goodvibes Do you see the little colored bits of sayings under my (and many other posters) DISname? Those are tags. They are usually direct quotes (mine are--thus the typos--I have never been decent at typing) but I think sometimes not. Anway, apparently there are some posters on these boards who have the ability to put those lovely gems there. They are the Tag Fairies and may gift you with a tag when you least expect it (I had totally thought I would never have any--and thentwo popped up all at once!). It just adds some more persoanlity and silliness to the DIS.

I believe that you can do that. I'll have a Baltic to cancel (when it becomes apparent that I will not be winning the lottery in time :lmao: ) and was assured by fellow DISers that I could just transfer that $600 to this cruise.

AND...another thing I've noticed in my past meets threads...there are folks you connect with 'here' and end up hardly ever seeing on the ship! Also, there are some folks you run into over and over again, and develop an 'in person' friendship.

There are some good friends of mine on this cruise (some haven't shown up here yet) that I am very excited to see again. There are some DISers I've cruised with before, but didn't have the opportunity to spend time with, that I'm hoping to get to play with this time! ALSO, there are some fellow DISers that I have not 'met' before, but are familiar to me, as long time DISers/frequent posters and I will be very happy to finally make their aquaintance. THEN...there's all the BRAND NEW people! I think our only problem will be....is FOURTEEN DAYS ENOUGH????

Erik, that was a wonderful post. I know the DIS has enriched my life and given me some friends I will keep forever.

lol Definately going to be a problem this just 14 days thing! I know I barely got a chance to meet any disers on the EB cruise personally although I did say hi to as many as possible mainly through the lanyards.

This will be Dan's first cruise and the first time he's going to experience DIS as a whole so how involved we get I'm leaving up to him but I'm sure we will meet up with some familiar faces and some new ones if only to say hi!

Erik - that was a beautiful story and I think we can all relate. I went from writing out 85 Christmas cards to over a hundred because of all our DIS Friends on past cruises. Hopefully 2010 will be even more! DH and I have VERY little family and the people we have met on our cruises have been our brothers and sisters. We would do anything for them or help out in any way that we can with anything. I think if we all look at what makes this so important and special to us, we will 1. smile and 2. know that we all can disagree because we have all come from different backgrounds, countries, religion, culture, etc. so it is okay and that is one of the fun things when we do get on the Magic, discovering and appreciating all the different people.

By the way, if it was me who ignored a new person, I apologize, I try not to do that and want everyone to feel welcome.

I know on our last Dis thread, and I don't want to make this one like that, but Hadley asked a question of the week to get everyone involved and get a different perspective. It was like Question of the Week and maybe we can learn about each other through that. I don't know if people would be interested.

I have told friends to sign up for this cruise because of the thread and the people that will be on the ship so I know we will have a great time. I think we all want to share our experiences from other DCL cruises because they were so fabulous - I don't necessarily know if it is a clique. I know there were people from the Double Dip that loved reality shows, I do not so I did not respond to those threads but it was great that they had someone to share their fun with.

I have rambled, see I can ramble with the best of them, but anyway, that is my two cents for the day and getting ready to go to our Christmas downtown in Lakeland tonight - although I am cold. By the way, thanks for letting all of us know about the OBC, fuel charges and the brillance into the Air France situation I mentioned. Much appreciated!!!!

Just to say I am a firm believer of the welcome everyone and actually scower through the posts to check I haven't missed any newbies each day (sorry if I have). I also try to make sure if people ask questions I answer them or at least bump them up so that others notice. I agree with longer/fast moving threads it can be difficult to get the nerve to post but any lurkers out there I hope will at least join the roster.

I knew I was forgetting something in my post earlier and I have just now remembered it.

Book exchange I love that idea and would love to see it done again--any which way someone wants to arrange it. I think on the TA we had two rooms who volunteered to hang the bags outside--one for adult books and one for kids' books. I remember that tidbit because Marika could never decide where her young adult books belonged:rotfl2: I think she generally checked both bags and wherever she found something else to interest her she left her latest read. NOTE--I am not saying this is the best or only way to do things. I am simply throwing out my expereince so everyone has plenty of ideas to work from. I admit that I never seem to finsih a book on the cruise as I am so busy playing:rotfl2:

I apologize to anyone who has felt that I have in any way excluded them or been being cliquey myself. I do know many people from prior cruises and threads and do tend to want to connect with them, but I also want to connect with new people and have really enjoyed a variety of posts here and want to get to know people. I have never, ever intended to tell people that they are not welcome or things must be done my way, etc. If I came off that way and made anyone feel left out or pressuerd to do it "my way or the highway" I am soooo sorry. I have really felt that way myself on this thread and I shudder to think I have hurt others in the same fashion.

i WOULD BE HAPPY to do it!! we can discuss the finer points nearer the time!

I'm still waiting for snow around here...we've had flurries but nothing else. I love snow, so I can't wait! Plus I pretty much get out of shoveling this year since I'm having my ACL done in January...that pretty much puts me on the injured list for the rest of the season. :thumbsup2

I do miss welcomming people quite often I am sure. If I missed any of you I apologize. On days when I am home I can follow the posts quite easily and keep up with that. But, on days when we run errands or I work (can't DIS at work:sad1: ) I tend to come home tired and just do a quick scan of posts and I know I miss alot in the process. I never intentioanlly ignore people, but I am sure I miss out as often as not on being on the welcome wagon--it doesn't mean I don't like you I promise.

You have mentioned you are having ACL done a few times. PLease forgive my ignorance, but what is that? Some type of surgery I assume:confused3 Whatever it is, I do hope it goes smoothly.

The anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) is one of the two major ligaments in the knee. It connects the thigh bone to the shin bone. (I must write that that was taken right off of the webmd.com site). So once there is no ACL there, it makes the knee very unstable and it will give out and shift out of place easily. It can be very painful when that happens. Here is a little more information about the ACL and other ligaments in the knee:
http://www.webmd.com/pain-management/knee-pain/knee-ligament-injuries

I will be having ACL reconstruction surgery where the doctor will replace the torn ACL with a cadaver graft and that will become my 'new' ACL. It's a painful surgery, but one that does need to be done. Here's a little information about the surgery itself: http://www.webmd.com/a-to-z-guides/anterior-cruciate-ligament-acl-surgery

Hope that helps a bit! No worries about not knowing what it is...trust me, if I hadn't torn my ACL three times, I wouldn't know what it was either! :)

So my answers to my own question are:
Me (Hadley): Mary Poppins. How can you not love someone who is practically perfect in every way?!
Dave: Milo Thatch (the nerdy historian from Atlantis in case you were wondering).
Marika: Belle (my voracious reader pretty much IS Belle)
Rio: Peter Pan (but he loves ll of the fab 5 also)

I do need to step away from the computer and do some folding of clothes - ahhhh!!! My fave Disney character is Goofy - I just adore his sense of humor and funny ways. He always made me laugh when he would play or tease with Abby. I do sleep with a stuffed Remey because I absolutely LOVED that movie. I know not a fave among many Disney people, but just adored it. I told my husband that I wanted to get a rat to cook with me and he told me that the rat wouldn't be able to talk to me. I know, never got the rat, but just adorable!!! OK...I actually have a few favorite Disney characters. I LOVE Chip & Dale, Mickey and of course Cinderella. My DF's favorite character is Pluto, but I think he is closely followed by Stitch and WALL-E.

OH...that was me too! The tooth is better so I'm very happy about that.

I've actually had the torn ACL for over a year now. I tore it on my birthday last year (2007) doing a double pirouette at my dance class. Needless to say my upper body was turning faster than my knee and I felt it tear! :scared: I know that it is possible to walk without an ACL (obviously since I've been doing it for over a year) so I was able to push surgery off until January of 2009. Last June was my 25 dance recital and I wasn't going to miss that...followed by vacations and now the holidays so January is the perfect time to do it.

How is your dog doing? I know how much of a pain it is for a human to have the surgery, I can't imagine what it's like for a dog. Give Hoagie a hug from me!

Oh that sounds so not very fun. I hope it goes as smoothly as possible and you feel MUCH better afterwards. Please keep us updated.

Thank you for you caring words! I'll keep you posted! I'll be out of work for 2 weeks so I'll have a lot of time to spend on the boards (and playing with the Wii DF and I are giving each other for Christmas) while I'm recovering. :)

I love that you would count Christian - he is one of our favorites. Clayton is my fave! Yes, thank you, Hoagie is much better and Hadley, you have 3,000 things on your plate, I didn't expect you to remember and that is fine. She is wonderful and the stiches are out, she still needs to "relax" until the end of January - that is difficult for her.

Jason's father's side of the family are from Hamilton, NY & the Binghamton area which is kind of Central NY and Southern tier...and I travel to NYC a lot for work and the occasional pleasure trip, too (on of my closest friends is a life-long Manhattanite, too)....but for some reason we never pick up our frozen roots and move! :)

I grew up in Rome, NY and moved to Maryland in 1973. I still miss the winters. It gets cold and we have some snow in Maryland, but nothing like central NY

I actually don't run at all...all three times I've done it dancing. But I love dancing and I'm not ready to give it up just yet. I don't do jumps, leaps or turns like I used to (getting old and injured stinks), but I still dance. I figure at I did it doing something I love!

Want to know the funny part? I'm an identical twin. We've both had our ACLs reconstructed. When she tore her, I tore mine two weeks later to the day! :lmao: We did have the surgery a couple of weeks apart though. The second time I tore it, I was dancing around my house. I didn't know for sure that I had torn it, but when they went to do a scope about 2 years later, it was torn and needed to be reconstructed.

The best part about this story is that my twin tore her ACL this past summer on a cruise. She was on Royal Carribean (I know, it's a bad word) and was taking part in the the Quest Game. They needed 6 women to come up to the stage and do the can-can. Now my twin thought, 'hey, I've been dancing for over 25 years, I can do that!' so she went up. Just as they went to start the can-can, she stepped back to prep for the kick and RRRRRRRIPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP went her ACL! She knew she had torn it right away...she actually thought she was going to get sick right on stage! Luckily, she just limped off and got some water. I get a text message from the middle of the Atlantic Ocean saying that the had torn her ACL doing the can-can and to make a doctor's appointment for her for when she got back.

What can I say... LOL!!!:lmao:

I actually don't run at all...all three times I've done it dancing. But I love dancing and I'm not ready to give it up just yet. I don't do jumps, leaps or turns like I used to (getting old and injured stinks), but I still dance. I figure at I did it doing something I love!

Want to know the funny part? I'm an identical twin. We've both had our ACLs reconstructed. When she tore her, I tore mine two weeks later to the day! :lmao: We did have the surgery a couple of weeks apart though. The second time I tore it, I was dancing around my house. That is crazy, but i would believe anything you told me about twins, my gran was an identical twin and they used to freak me out, they were so well identical! take care of yourself, I wish I could dance, i do crazy jumping about but thats it, hubby andI went to class once(say no more);)

We have been out of touch for abit doing Thanksgiving. Not able to catch up, so I will just jump in here.

MrsMork and DrHug. Hard to settle on one favorite and you would probably get different answers from us on any given day. BUT, we do seem to gravitate to Mickey and Minnie when we make purchases and such. So, they must really be our favorites. :goodvibes

Got to Love Hollywood :cool1: :cool1:

As far as Disney Character hmmmm:rolleyes1 :rolleyes1 :rolleyes1 wonder if this would be hard to figure out ..:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: 2nd Fav would be Mickey then Goofy .....

I love Chip and Dale. they are so cute. Especially when they "Bust a Groove" at the sail away party and on Pirate night!

DH loves stitch. His car IS stitch! its a bright blue PT cruiser and the licence plate is EXP 626. And he has a Stitch antenna topper.

He was going to get some of the stitch hats that look like stitch is eating your head for head rest covers, but the headrests were way too big.

Minnie Mouse is his runner up. He always gives her a hug and a kiss on the nose whenever he sees her.

HI

I really like the idea of a question of the week - it would be great to get to know everyone a bit better!

My favourite character would have to be Capt Jack Sparrow, closely followed by Mickey! DH 's favourite characters are Chip and Dale - he always has to get a photograph taken with them!

Cruise staff - we really liked Claire and Neville on our recent Magic cruise - they were so enthusiastic about everything they did!

Real quick cuz I'm on my way to cheerleading practice:

My favorite character is Tigger (as you might have assumed) followed closely by Tinkerbell.

Jason's favorite character is Roo followed closely by Peter Pan.

Goodness, it has been a busy day on the thread!:woohoo:

Welcome to all the newcomers. I'm not good about keeping up with that. I love that we come from all over and have had lots different vacation/cruise adventures. I love to learn from others experiences, so please share any and all information. With that spirit, I've shared some of our experiences from the first EBTA. It truly was not meant to be cliquey or anything else. Sorry if it came across that way.:grouphug:

Interesting info on the fuel surcharge. I have one ressie that I booked online the first morning and another that was a transfer of a dummy ressie booked onboard. It is tricky to transfer/rebook that one, but maybe I should do something with the other :confused3 . I'll need to think on that. Hopefully, DCL will do the right thing just remove the fuel charges on all of them.

Favorite disney character:
me - changes - currently I would have to say Belle or Lilo
DH - definitely Simba - always has been always will be
DD#3 - Cinderella (or any of the princesses) and Nala

And yes, I definitely need to step away from the computer and get some work done:rotfl2:
If you lick like hogie I will send you a buster collar from work!!
Does Christiaan the cruise director count as a disney character?
:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: Note to self - do not read DIS while drinking - nearly had milk all over the computer screen:rotfl: .

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: I think we will get along well. We have a lot in common:
dance - two left feet here. DH has ballroom dancing trophys from his teenage years and tried to teach me - it wasn't pretty:scared1: .
squash/raquetball - tried that too with DH:sad2: why on earth would someone voluntarily go into an enclosed room with projectiles flying around the room?

Well, you may see me following you around just to listen to your accents! I had two uncles from Wales (my mom's sisters married brothers) and I loved them so. They both passed while I was still a kid and I will always have a soft spot for the Welsh! :grouphug:

I often have to step back from the computer to get anything done...I just don't DO IT!

Favorite character: Well, Tigger of course, but also have a soft spot for the main man Mickey. Favorite princesses: Aurora and Belle. Love the antics of Chip and Dale too.

Oh my everyone was so chatty today! It took me a bit to catch up. Welcome to anyone who is new or welcome back to anyone who has been out for a bit:goodvibes

Hi everyone!

I had a lovely weekend (I work Tuesday-Saturday so today was my Sunday) and I wish it wouldn't be over!!!! Well it was lovely except for the fact that I scheduled my ACL reconstruction for January 7th. It will be my third ACL reconstruction so it's nothing new for me. I want to be 100% healed by my wedding in October!

Amy I hope this one takes care of everything for you and your recovery is speedy:goodvibes
The fuel has to stay nelow $70 a barrel for 2 WHOLE quarters. I asked if it went to $71 on one of those 2 qurters would be get it the OBC, she said no!

So basically I can get about $95 back right now by rebooking or I do nothing and hope to get the OBC. At this point I think the better gamble is to wait bc $490 (for our 2 rooms) is better then $95 now.

I am just disappointed that they are even doing this!
That stinks:rolleyes: Hopefully we all get a decent OBC in the end if the fuel prices stay low.

Lanyard transport and the cost of living in Europe:rolleyes1 Well, let's see if we can get soem paperwork on this possible job for Dave and then I may be able to give a first hand account of the cost of living differences and surely we can figure out how to get the lanyards across the pond if I have an address there;) All of your good thoughts and pixie dust have been MUCH appreciated and we are STILL waiting to see any kind of anything about details (you know, silly things like salary), BUT we are told that is very common in international moves and the company is flying all of us to GERMANY to look at apartments and schools next week:woohoo:  Keep the good thoguths comming our way if you can spare any:flower3: and I'll keep you all posted (by posting:rotfl2: ) if I get any further news.

Hadley I have been wondering how things are going!! I would so love to get back to Germany!! I bet you guys are beyond thrilled to start seeing things finally start to move along:goodvibes Sending lots of extra PD for you guys:wizard: :wizard:

I know on our last Dis thread, and I don't want to make this one like that, but Hadley asked a question of the week to get everyone involved and get a different perspective. It was like Question of the Week and maybe we can learn about each other through that. I don't know if people would be interested.

I think that would be a fun idea to do:goodvibes
I love snow, but I also dislike dirty snow. There's nothing better than untouched snow on a cold winter morning

I don't care for the dirty slushy snow either. I love the way the snow looks new fallen when it clings to all the tree branches, but I only need that for like a week and then I'm ready for things to start heating up!

Okay--well a nice starting place is what is your favourite Disney character?
Oh that is hard to pick just one. I would probably say Mickey.

Hi Leonard or Lynn (I can't tell which one of you is posting:) ) Do you see the little colored bits of sayings under my (and many other posters) DISname? Those are tags. They are usually direct quotes (mine are--thus the typos--I have never been decent at typing) It just adds some more persoanlity and silliness to the DIS.So my answers to my own question are:
Me (Hadley): Mary Poppins. How can you not love someone who is practically perfect in every way?!
Dave: Milo Thatch (the nerdy historian from Atlantis in case you were wondering).
Marika: Belle (my voracious reader pretty much IS Belle)
Rio: Peter Pan (but he loves ll of the fab 5 also)

:lmao: Certainly Hadley knows me very well so obviously will see the humor in THAT irony (just so nobody else thinks I'm being mean) To prove her own point on the typos line, it looks like Rio loves ELEVEN of the FAB 5 they way you typed it, hehe. Of course I know you mean ALL of the FAB 5!

Okay, I know I haven't been very active, I just finished my local production of Beauty and the Beast, so now I have a little more of life back to normal.

Thanks everyone for keeping us up to speed on the FS info, and please continue to do so over the next couple days for those of us who haven't called in to DCL or DVC to receive our own conflicting info.

Welcome all the new folks (I'm so behind on posts, I don't even know if there ARE "new" folks.

Erik, lovely post on "Why I DIS"

Todd, thanks for prepping the new thread already.

Fave character: Chernabog

Have a good day everyone.

I had to go back to work this afternoon so I didn't get to answer then BUT my favorite character is Cinderella (and I have the ink to prove it:rotfl2:) followed closely by Captain Jack and the original Mickey Mouse rounds out the top 3!

Favorite crew member...that's tough but I would have to say that I really enjoyed Mela from Sessions - she took great care of us!

:scared1: I can't imagine having that much pain! Good luck with the surgery.
