View Full Version : Interest - Disney Surprise Swap

With Kat feeling bad from a spider bite and other unfortunate events [but she is going to DL soon, so that is a plus!] I told her I would hostess this next round.
With hopemax hostessing the paper piecing & flocked items swaps soon, I wouldn't want the Surprise one to compete with it. So no dedicated groups to paper piecings or flocking.
The sign up for x number of groups free for all was too hard on Kat, I'm not even going to go there. It would set groups of Xamount, you see who you are swapping with and it is easier as hostess to swap within a set group.
My questions -
Are we up for another one?
Do we want specific groups - toppers, mats, boxes, tags, themes (character specific), store bought?
Do we want one element and page kit groups?
If sign ups are 9/15 do we want a November or December due date?
Do we want groups of six (like last time) or ten (the times before)?
Do we have any other questions?

So nice of you to take this over -just read about Kat's spider bite - hope all is well with her!
I'm always up for a surprise swap but there are a lot of things running now -it's set up for signup soon?
I like making more of the same thing - I find it easier to do that way so I like 10 in a group and sign up for less groups. The last one was insane in #s.
My two cents - I 'm ok for anything really.

I'd like to do the Surprise Swap again. I'd prefer a December or January due date.
I would prefer smaller groups, like 6, but will go with 10 if that's what others want. I like making things in smaller quantities.
I would also prefer no store bought items, I like handmade stuff.

If there is interest, I'd like to start the sign ups 9/15.
Store bought would be their own group and only in their own group. The others would be handmade.

lol seems strange to see this swap on here without me hosting but ah such a breath of fresh air :) Thanks Ann!!
I'd be in for whatever :) I agree that store bought should be in it's own group.

Keep in mind that Im still learning, but why do signups need to be so early and it does seem like there is alot going on, maybe its just me. But I would be in for this. Do we do a kids group with this?

Just to give everyone enough time to work on these while they are working on other swaps.
Kids group would be fun.

Could we then have a slightly later one so we can work on these with the kids over Christmas?
Small groups are good for me (and very good for kids!!)
Have to say not sure if I'd do any as I'm pretty stocked with Disney and I've nearly completed my DLRP album. But Kicky might be in for the kids stuff as he uses Disney on all his pages regardless;)

Are you sure they would want to work on swaps during break?
I thought we slowed down during the holidays because most people had too much real life stuff to get done. Not me, I'm one who likes stuff to do, I just want to go with the majority here.

I think I could do this if I get myself wqorking on my other swaps and the due date was January. Haviong something to work on that isn't stressful over that time might be nice.

Answers below. :)
My questions -
Are we up for another one? Yes!!!
Do we want specific groups - toppers, mats, boxes, tags, themes (character specific), store bought? I think specific groups would be great.
Do we want one element and page kit groups? I would only sign up for element groups (right now).
If sign ups are 9/15 do we want a November or December due date? I would go for mid-Decemeber, but reading people are asking for January, I'd vote for that instead.
Do we want groups of six (like last time) or ten (the times before)? Six please.
Do we have any other questions? What time will you doing sign-ups? :goodvibes

The DH goes to work around 7ish, so I'll have the signs up ready to be posted then.
This way everyone can plan this swap around the other ones that coming up. If you want to make extras from those swaps to use in this swap, I'll print out those swaps & make sure no one gets doubles. A little bit more work on my side, but less on yours. :)

<~~~~ Newbie here.
I love to swap though. but what exactly is a surprise swap?
and I'd love to join with whatever. Kids group sounds awesome. i have an 8you DD who loves to scrap. Christmas break would be nice to work on stuff.
Feel Free to enable me to sign up!

In the surprise swap you never know what you are getting. Well if we sign up by types of items than you have an idea but no one shows what they are sending until after and you don't have a specific topic so you will be getting surprises back.

There are minimum requirements, like with all our swaps, so that you are guarenteed to get back at least a certain level of work. Although most swappers produce work that is borderline genius, we don't want to scare away new comers.
You are free to make any Disney theme you want. Mickey, Fantasyland, Back Lot Cafe, Monorail, princessy, buckaroo, DeVine, fireworks, One Hundred and One Dalmations, Morocco. If it can be related to Disney, it can be used.
If you have any questions or concerns, you can email or PM me photos of what you are working on and I will offer only constructive advice. Everyone has different tastes, so style is never called into question. It can be formal, prissy, smooth, lumpy, glittery or shiny. All we ask is it is neat with minimal amounts of glue boogies. ;)
The only other thing I should mention now is that if you haven't swapped with me before, I ask that you keep it to a maximum of two groups. After that, the skies are the limit only.

Minimal amount of glue boogies? Well then I'm out. :rotfl2:
Love the guidelines. wish more boards had them. but anyhow. im in the WDW event one too. so hopefully everyone will like my stuff.
Thanks for the info. I will be watching for this one.

I'm going to be sitting the next round out. I have too much going on this fall scrap wise. I have to get a wedding book done by Christmas for DH's cousin. That, the event swap, and the 2 swaps I will be hosting will have me stressed out enough.
I hope all of you will survive. :goodvibes :rotfl2:

Since you are world reknown for your paper piecings and I am not including those this time - you will see a huge number of participants in your swaps. :teeth:

I just love Hopemax paper piecings. The past surprise swap I got two sets of the Monster Inc and a Tow Mater. I cant wait to use them in my books. I just love'em.

I'm still on the fence, but I may do this one. I loved Kat's and although I may not have anything to trade yet, can I make things to send that would total 5pts per bag?

:rotfl2: Wait till you start making things for one swap only to realize you should have been making a different theme for the other swap.
But yes, you can make totally new and different things. Feel free to use up the stash of stuff you already have.

With my power being out when I supposed to do sign ups and with my current swap being delayed, I totally forgot all about this one. Yes, I'm a natural blue. Since nobody has mentioned it since, I'm going to just let this one wait until November for sign ups with a due date at the end of January. This way everyone can work on it over the holidays if they want to, or wait until they are over [and use up those gift cards on supplies ;) ]

Maybe I read wrong but I had thought with the mold thing and then with Ivan you were going to sit out for awhile or was that you would finish this year and then sit out awhile? Anyway, whatever groups or sizes, Banana and I will be in.
Also, is there going to be a "Christmas tag" swap and are you hostessing that too?
You have a touch of insanity in you, dont you:goodvibes or is that why the rums always gone?:dance3:

I thought I was going to have to but thankfully I still have someplace safe to make and store swap stuff. I just have to pick swaps that I use up my stash first.
Yes to the tag swap. It's a super easy one to do.
The Surprise swap will be simplified when I do it too. Just the basic elements - photo mats, frames, journal boxes, tags. Choose any two. Make 8. {I picked this because you can get 4 mats from a 12x12 with little waste}
It's the insanity, not enough rum. ;)

I can only get 3 mats from a 12x12 myself (plus matting for a journal box)
We are busy leading up to Christmas but because we're not big New Year fans once Boxing Day is passed we often do craft stuff (its indoors in the warm and dry - nuff said!) But I'll have to see how the hand goes.

Buffy did a tutorial for us on how to do it- it involves turning the mat quite a bit but you can get 4 mats and a little box in the middle. I will try to search for it later and add the link- it will save you on paper.

Sounds great but I have gotten so backed up with real life stuff that I am taking a break for a while after I dig out of this hole.
