Matthew has a field trip this afternoon - hiking and swimming. I hope they cancel it. They cancelled his trip yesterday afternoon because of rain and that one was to be mostly indoors. So I really hope today's is cancelled/postponed!

"Four counties south and east of Houston announced mandatory or voluntary evacuations, and authorities began moving weak and chronically ill patients by bus to San Antonio, about 190 miles from Houston. A mandatory evacuation was also ordered for the west end of Galveston Island. No immediate evacuations were ordered in Harris County, which includes Houston."

We have pleanty of supplies in the house already for when the last strorm was supposed to come through, but I'm heading to the store to pick up a few more things, If anything is left:rotfl: I'm sure it will be b/c as of last night it wasn't supposed to hit us. and it's really early so I think it'll be fine at the stores, but we're just gonna ride it out.

Morning guys! Just thought I'd give you guys an update on Ike.

We're still here at home, I actually just woke up :rotfl: but all is good so far. We're hunkered down here in our upstairs apartment waiting for the storm to hit. All classes have been called of for all schools in our area, and mom stayed home from work last night and she will stay home tonight too.

The scariest thing is what's happening on Galveston Island, (our beach) which is about an hour away from us, they waves are HUGE!! and the storm hasn't even come through yet! It's just some of the very outter winds that are kicking up the waves so much. The streets are already flooding with the water from the gulf, and a lot of the beach homes are already getting water inside of them. They're saying they will be very little left when the storm is over. It's scary to think about that. I've always loved Galveston, and have some of my favorite memories from spending time with my family there, and spending late nights on the beach with a bon fire.

It will be so sad if there is that much destruction on the island, but it will be what it will be, we have no control of what Ike will do.

The good thing is, that in our area that we live in, there is no water around us. and our building is kind of wedged between another 2 buildings, so even if the wind is strong, we won't feel much of it.

Ok, hope I didn't scare anyone:rotfl: but Just wanted to give an update, as of now, all is good in the Tracy home, and we're praying it stays that way:thumbsup2

Did anyone end up with a gas scare yesterday?? :confused3 NC and SC hit the national news yesterday! Why us I don't understand! Most gas stations in our town are out of gas because of yesterday!!!! :scared1: Many stations were even rationing. It was scary!

It was absolutely delicious...and I don't usually like fish! There were NO leftovers!

Recipezaar Parmesan Crusted Tilapia
There are 206 calories in the Recipezaar Parmesan Crusted Tilapia.

Prep Time: 5 minutes Cook Time: 20 minutes

Ingredients:
2 tilapia fillets
1/8 cup italian seasoned breadcrumbs
1/8 cup grated parmesan cheese
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tbs lemon juice
salt
pepper
garlic powder
olive oil

1. Thaw & wash tilapia fillets if frozen. Pat dry on paper towels.

2. Combine crumbs, parmesan & garlic powder on a plate mixing well.

3. On a different plate pour lemon juice.

4. Working one at a time, place a fillet on the plate in the lemon juice, sprinkle w/ desired amount of salt, pepper & garlic powder. Turn the fillet over in the lemon juice & sprinkle seasoning on the other side.

5. Dredge fillet in the parmesan mixture, patting it all over to coat.

6. Place in an oiled baking dish, repeat w/ remaining fillet.

7. Sprinkle a little lemon juice over fillets & drizzle or spray them lightly w/ olive oil.

8. Bake at 425 degF for 20 minutes or until they easily flake w/ a fork & edges are browning.


(Naturally I had to multiply the recipe to feed all of us! ;) )

Yes, Matthew's trip wasn't cancelled and they DID swim in the rain. He said he had a fantastic time. They hiked into the National Forest and there was a waterfall and they got to swim at the bottom of the waterfall with the water falling on them. And it rained most of the time (just rain - no storms) and it didn't stop them!

He's on a trip today canoeing!

Did anyone end up with a gas scare yesterday?? :confused3 NC and SC hit the national news yesterday! Why us I don't understand! Most gas stations in our town are out of gas because of yesterday!!!! :scared1: Many stations were even rationing. It was scary!

Is it just us or was it like this all over?

...I bought gas at a nearby station on Thursday for $3.27/gal and when I returned yesterday afternoon to fill up, the price had gone up to $3.79!! :eek:

...well, I wanted to update you guys on my mom....she was having knee replacement surgery today, but she is in Puerto Rico and, unfortunately neither I nor my sister can take off from school, expecially in the beginning of the school year....long story short, her cousin called me a little while ago and told me she was still in 'Recovery', so, I guess it's good that there was no 'bad' news - please keep her in your prayers for a quick and painless recovery......now, I'm not sure if I had mentioned this, but my DH said that, instead of getting each other a 25th anniversary gift, we will go on a 'mini- vaca', like a 3-day weekend vaca...soooo, we are probably going to WDW!! It was either that or visiting my mom, but since the flight is fairly long and we only have a 3-day weekend it makes more sense going to WDW, since it's closer to us.....:cool1:

I would have posted earlier, but we spent the majority of the day cleaning up, cleaning out the fridge and freezer, and de funking the house :rotfl: I couldn't believe how stufffy and nasty it felt in here when we got back. I mean, we're not dirty people at all, but with all the heat and humdity and it really made it smell in here! we had to air out the house big time.


But all is good now! We've got the ac running, I've got my wireless internet, I've checked my e-mail and had a hot meal in my house and I will be sleeping in my own bed tonight:goodvibes

Feels good to be home! I'm thinking they will probably call school off again Monday, but I'm not sure yet.

I dropped the boys off at school at 8:15, was to work by 8:30. Another typical, normal Thursday.

First, I realized that I had forgotten my jeans and shirt that I wanted for after work. Called DH and asked him to bring them to town when he went to work.

At 10 the school nurse called. Matthew wasn't feeling well because of the sunburn he got this past weekend on a canoe trip. (14 year olds always know better than moms - no need for sunscreen - boy did he learn a valuable lesson the hard way - 1st and 2nd degree burns! :scared1: ) Anyway, he started to peel last night. He was okay first thing this morning but as he moved around at school it was starting to hurt pretty badly. School nurse sprayed some stuff on it but they're not allowed to administer "drugs" so she asked if I could come to school to give him some ibuprofen. So, I left work to take it to him. Told the nurse I would come back at 2:45 at class change time to give him another dose.

Got back to work and around noon the boss calls me up and tells me DH just called and I need to step outside to get my clothes.

Went outside, got my clothes and talked to DH for a few minutes, walked back in and boss says I have a phone call. Pick up the phone and it's A.J.'s teacher's aide. A.J.'s eye is all red and irritated and they think he may have something stuck in it. Call the eye doctor. They can squeeze him in at 1:30. Pick him up at 1. Get him to the eye doctor. Luckily, nothing stuck in his eye. Dr. thinks it's some sort of "contact" allergy (something he touched and then touched his eye). Took A.J. back to school and got there just in time to give Matthew more Advil.

Headed back to work. Got a lot of grief for the fact that I conveniently had to leave just after DH brought me some clothes. :lmao: But, I saw that coming so I brought a note from the dr.

Worked until 5:45, picked up Matthew at 6, went to Walmart to get stuff for his camping trip tomorrow night and finally got home at 8:00!

Not a day I want to repeat!

And tomorrow morning.....Andrew is having all 4 of his wisdom teeth removed!

My DH came home around 7 to get his medicine (forgot to grab it on his way out earlier) and then headed back out. They will probably be taking 12 hour shifts so I don't expect him to be home before morning. He said there are probably 300 - 350 law enforcement officers in the area.

DH just came home, again. He and his unit have been assigned to the shift tomorrow morning. So, he'll head to bed shortly and head back out in the morning. I hope they get the guy tonight!

The man who shot two deputies, killing one of them, is still at large and DH has just been called in to work. PLEASE keep DH and the other members of his team in your thoughts and prayers today!

I Hope the dirtbag is in cuffs by now....

sorry....people like that make me sick to my stomach
a local man... a state trooper....a father of a one yr old little boy....
and a friend of ours was killed in the line of duty about 2 years ago by someone trying to escape.... They finally caught the guy but that won't bring the two officers he killed back

Kathy I have to work so If I don't talk to you in the AM know I am praying all day for your DH and his fellow officers

No news! It was a long night - DH getting text messages during the night for updates.

DH just went back about an hour ago. I expect he'll be gone all day.

Thanks for keeping us - and the other families - in your prayers. Please continue to do so. The deputy that was killed was only 24 years old and lived with his parents. He was a graduate of the university here in our county. The other deputy that was shot was shot three times in the chest and was saved by his vest.
