Is he at Dover this weekend? That is an awesome track. I've been to 3 cup races there. I just love it. If not for hte cruise I'd probably be there this weekend:rotfl:

Just seeing that track on tv is fantastic. And the racing there is phenominal on tv. In person its gotta be even better. Cause I always say there's 2 races going on. 1 that the networks show the viewers and the 1 that the fans at the track get to see. The last Cup race there was fantastic, and Rich and I were so relievedc to find out we won't be missing the fall race while we're on the ship:rotfl:

Then when they get back, "Well, darn it, they missed Mickey. He stopped by to drop off these gift bags." Now that they are older, I am not sure what I am going to do. Yea me too! Chris is in the middle of a HUGE meltdown...he fell asleep on the way home from dinner and NEVER wakes up from a nap in a good mood...so I made him go straight to bed and now he is screaming and trying to make me a deal that he will behave if I let him go in the living room with Papa and Pop Pop (my dad) but I told him no that he wont learn how to behave if I let him out of punishment. He is finally calming down but Im with him in here to cuddle....Yea I know I am not helping his punishment if I am in here with him...but I am tired as well (he really hasnt been back on schedule yet from our Vegas trip...3 hours difference in time) so I dont fully blame him for the lack of schedule he has now. I need to get my butt in gear to get him on one...Im hoping that the new house will help...I can get a time together of when to give him a bath and brush teeth and then storytime before bed (maybe that routine will help) Although I am a night person so I am sure he gets that from me...Im not saying it will be an earlier bedtime but at least a routine is a step closer! I used to have him go to bed at 10pm (still not early but earlier than what he does now) and that was good...he is being WAY TOO CRABBY these days for me NOT to install a new bedtime routine and an actual bedtime again...prob 10pm is what I will be shooting for. :thumbsup2

Hi Amber!!!
I know!!!!!!! just the look on their little faces is worth it!!!!!!!
we were going to do just one large basket of stuff but then I though about it would be more fun to have 2, so we'll do that instead and have either 2 small or 2 medium size tied together.

Does anyone know of a website where you can buy single shares of Disney Stock? I know I saw it somewhere, but I didn't bookmark it. We are thinking that it might be something fun to get the boys for Christmas. Maybe 2 or 3 shares each! they are both studying the market in school. Even though they are in different grades. It might just be because the market has been so volatile this week.

:thumbsup2

Isn't he three years old? Just my opnion but isn't ten pm a bit late for him to be going to bed. A good bedtime routine should be started now before he goes to school. Once in school they need to be in bed wicked early so they can function during the day. My girls are six and we start the bedtime routine by 7:30 and they are asleep by eight if not earlier!!!!!!

I'm thinking of calling Shirley.Sounds like she does a great job and I wont have to get it there and try setting it up.I think the girls will be soooooo excited to walk in the room for the first time and see fun stuff!!!!:)

Yeah, I was thinking about emailing her myself. I love the DCL stuff, but I honestly don't see wanything in the pics they show that are worth the money they're charging, except possibly those pearls.

If i can get something nice at a more reasonable price, that'd be good.

Hi Amber!!!
I know!!!!!!! just the look on their little faces is worth it!!!!!!!
we were going to do just one large basket of stuff but then I though about it would be more fun to have 2, so we'll do that instead and have either 2 small or 2 medium size tied together.

So, you are going through Shirley as well? Are you doing the buckets or totes or what? I can't decide!

Routines and consistancy is key for kidlets, I started mine as babies. I start bedtime at 8 pm for my 9 and 7 year old. They need at least 10-12 hours of sleep to function through the day especially in school. Just my two cents worth.

Hey Gail...Just noticed you posted, must have posted while I was typing ;) Sounds like fun...the Black Gold Festival...Sounds like something I would enjoy to go to ;) Have fun and talk to you more later

Hello Shauna! The Black Gold Festival is named after coal which is what Eastern Kentucky calls black gold. It is in honor of the coal mining industry, which is an important part of the economy here. To me, just as I said before, it's an excuse to eat, talk, etc. Tomorrow night a local band that has hit it big (or so every says) called Half Way to Hazard is doing a free concert at the Amphitheater outside City Hall. They have apparently been touring with Tim McGraw or someone like that for the last two years. I've never heard of them, but then again, I only listen to Christian music.

I was going to ask if it was after either FOOLS GOLD or COAL but I didnt want to sound ignorant :lmao: I think I might have head of the group...I listen to all kinds of music (used to be only country but since have moved away from it) LOVE Tim McGraw though

Also, and this is just my personally opinion, he needs to sleep in his bed. He'll sleep better and you and Mike will too. I also find that getting the boys to bed at a descent time gives me and Steve time to be "us" without "them". Even if we just sit here at the table and talk. It's adult time. I can remember one time I was getting the boys to bed and they wanted to stay up. I told them no, they asked why? I said, "Because I am done and your life depends on you being in bed right now". LOL I think this move might be a GREAT time to get him to his own room. You can have him help decorate the room....Cars would be great! Then you can start by just sitting next to his bed, once he falls asleep, you can walk out. Then sit in the middle of his room, then in the door, then "I'll be back in XX minutes to check on you". Trust me, it can be done. I am guilty of rocking Colton to sleep until Connor was born! YIKES! I had to wean "us" off of that. And that's what I did. I sat in a chair in his room and every night kept moving the chair closer to the door. It will work. He will live with out you. :lovestruc I know this time goes way too fast, but good sleep habits are priceless!!! I don't know how you get up in the middle of the night and stay up with him! Why is he waking? too crowded in bed? Can't move? Snoring? who knows....... again, what is right for one family, might not be right for another. Don't take this as preaching, I am not. I agree there have been numerous times when the kids have not seen Bruce due to him working. But the sooner you start getting him to bed on time the better he will be during the day. He is not going to like it in the begining but he will adjust. I would just set the time and put him in his room no discussion, if he cries he cries.

Very true. I am lucky, my kids have always been so great about going to bed. Heck, my son is 15 and I don't let him stay up till 10. He has to get up before 6 for school, and I know as it is, he doesn't get enough sleep.

Oh man, I remember when I was 15. Didn't matter if i had a bedtime, my circadian clock was soooo out of whack there was NO SLEEP for me b4 12:30am. And I did have to be at the bus stop by 6 something. I actually slept through an entire summer almost was internal clock was so far off.

well it's not easy and I know this!!!!! I have always been a night person too, but all that changed when I had Josh. thankfully he was a good sleeper even as a baby and setting a schedule was very easy. But when Kevin came along he was very different than Josh and wanted nothing to do with sleep, but I stuck to it and even though he would wake up 2 or 3 times a night I would just put him back down to sleep just to show him that he had too! eventually he got it and started sleeping later and later and would no longer get up at 4am!!! LOL it's tough but we have to do it for them!!!!!:goodvibes

This is exactly what I am shooting for!! I couldnt have written that better myself!! I am going to try this plan when we move and stick with it! I do want him in his own bed and to have my own time to recharge...Its just getting too much for us now (shouldn't have done it to begin with but thats how we live and learn ;) )I watched Supernanny and I seen her teach families how to do this, and It really encouraged me more so to do this. For him and for us. I know we would all sleep better and he would be a happier child. He does get sleep...but it isnt right how he does it (sleeps from the time he goes to bed till 2 or 3 pm the next day) but that CANT happen for school...so we need to fix our mistakes NOW. Thanks everyone for the lovely kind encouragement and not bashing me like I am sure some would love to do  Cant say I would blame them but you all have given me helpful advice that I can use along with the words

They are gone to school before he gets up and they are in bed before he gets home. I tease that I am a single mom that is married! All this will also give Chris some independence!! He'll be a big boy, in his big boy bed!! I think you'll be surprised!!!!

Okay, I am really leaving now....Good Night!!!!

Probably true. Merkie is studying the market also. They're doing sort of a history of the ups and downs and how they affected life in America.

This was Merkie's bedtime routine at six to. At nine, we negotiated a deal taht allowed her to stay up to nine. This is still what she does. She gets to stay up to ten on Friday nights (but most of the time she can't do it unless something special is going on). Saturdays, we go back to nine so that she will get up for church with no problems. She gets up at 6:45 for school and usually she is up by 7:00 on nonschool days just because she is used to it.

Don't you just love morons?

I honestly have no idea what pipeline we're on around here, but we don't have a gas shortage right now. What we have are lines at the stations with the lowest prices. We waited a few minutes oursleves to get gas this afternoon, but there is NO reason to top off with 5-6 gallons. That's just ridiculous.

I am off to bed for now...i will talk to you all tomorrow...Thank you all once again and I do admire your advice and will work on it for sure :thumbsup2

That's just wrong. way wrong. Gas here is Avg. about 3.51-3.65 most places. Texaco is charging higher unless you pay cash or by hteir cards but they've benn on that kick for a couple of months now. And losing business because of it.

No there not rocket scientists or they would have been at work instead of in the gas lines. That is what I really don't understand. These lines are happening here right in the middle of the day. You would think that these people would be at work. And, if they don't have jobs, you would think that they wouldn't be able to afford the gas anyway.

One of the local high schools is taking the Senior class on a 7 night cruise on Carnival for their Senior trip. The principal is a good friend of mine and one of my other friend's daughter is senior there. Tonight, at the festival, the three of us were talking and Estill, the principal, said that they were having trouble getting teachers to agree to go with them as chaperones. They have to have an adult to every so many kids. He asked if I would go and help out. The school would pay for the transportation to and from the port and the actually cruise. I am talking a free cruise here !!!!!!!!!!! I am just worried about Merkie (she will be 11 at the time) on Carnival with it having the reputation as being a party ship. What do you guys thinK?

IMO, the true party ships are the 3-4 night cruises, especially the weekend cruises! The cruise is cheaper than Disney so there might be different people on there. But I think you might be pretty safe with it being 7 nights!!

Have you sailed Carnival before? I have only had one cruise before this one and it was Disney to. Estill is getting me all the information so I can research it before agreeing to go. They are sailing out of Mobile and I know that one of the ports is Cozumel. The cruise is March 22-28, 2009. That's all the details I have. I'm going to get on Carnival's webpage tomorrow and see what I can find.

Oh that was definitely my first response and if it was just me it would be a no brainer. But, I wouldn't want to take Merkie on a ship that is a bunch of drunks partying and acting inappropriately. I monitor closely what Merkie watches on television and the situations that she is allowed to be in. If we got on the ship and this was going on, I would keep her in the stateroom all the time. Then again, I'd like to think that the high school would research enough to make sure that they did not take 150 high school seniors on that type of ship either. We'll see!!!!!

Do you want me to make it even scarier for you? I voiced my concern about chaperoning because I really don't know any of the kids but my friends daughter. This is a different high school than the only I am normally associated with. I told Estill that I didn't think any of those kids would listen to a thing that I said. He told me that he didn't really expect me to actually do anything. He just needs to be able to certify to the Board of Education that the correct number of adults are going to get the trip approved. In other words, there is going to be 150 high school seniors on the ship without their parents, and no one watching them. Now mix that with a ship that has a party atmosphere anyway. Are you starting to see my concern?

OK, if I'm reading that right then there's probably a chaperone party you haven't been told about yet. And won't be until you sign on the dotted line.

Well, I have chaperoned many trips that the basketball team at the high school that I am normally associated with has gone on and I can tell you that while we have tried to adequately chaperone, it is almost impossible to control that many kids when you get them out away from their parents. And it hasn't just been our kids. On every trip there are always groups that have acted much worse than ours. That's why Merkie never goes anywhere, no even local field trips with the school without me. I always take off and go along. That way I know that whether or not any of the other kids are supervised, my child is.

You're probably right! Seriously, I'm sure for the most part the teachers who are going will try. I would hate to think that they would take the kids and just total turn them loose and let them run wild. But like I said 150 kids on a cruise ship without their parents!!!!!!!! Think back to when you were a senior in high school. How would most of your class have acted in that same situation? How would most of US have acted in that same situation?

I am sitting right here and talking myself out of going on this trip.

Morning all:thumbsup2

It seems I can only get on first thing in the AM. We are off to the cottage this morning. It's a sign that the cruise is around the corner for we are pulling out the docks this weekend with our neighbors that are joining us on the Magic. So its a work weekend....
On a very exciting note we booked a last minute visit to DVC before Michelle gets of her mat leave and back to normal routine (if there is such thing as normal). We are headed to SSR and AKV for the last week of Jan into Feb. Anyone wanna come and play? After that, I think it wont be until August until we make it back.
Hope you've all got big plans for the weekend and I'll be check in when possible.

we have not booked our car yet for St. Maarten and I think we will wait until we get there. (just in case we end up not going, they would still charge $50 for not showing up) so as we get closer maybe a week before if I see there are no storm around and we are sure to be going then I will book. the 3 major ones are Budget, and I think Avis and Hertz. I would stick to these 3. And when you rent your car, make sure there is no R on the license plate as this is a target for theft!! also never lock the car when you park it somewhere and bring everything with you! ...I have been spending alot of time on Cruise Critic St. Maarten board and learned alot about the island.

I just finished making boiled chicken and rice for our Kozie-boy. Before I get my shower, I'll be cleaning the carpet in the office, dining room and our bedroom, again. Other then vomiting, he seems totally fine. His personality is the same, playing with Daisy like normal....I dunno! :confused3

Gail, what a great chance to try another cruise line, but I don't think I like the way it's being planned either. There is NO WAY on this God's green Earth that either one of my boys would be taking a senior trip, to a foreign country without me! Not just because I am a helicopter parent, that's part of it, but the other part is, I wouldn't want to miss out on the fun too! LOL I have just heard too many scary things that happen on senior trips! What is the name of the girl who was on her trip and came up missing? They never did find her. How about the kids partying at Myrtle Beach when we were there and he fell out of a 6th story window? I just DON'T think it's a good idea. AND I am not so sure that I would want the responsibilty of saying to a parent of a child....I was your child chaperone and he got hurt, got lost, etc. No way. Too much for this conscience to take. BUT, if you can go and just relax and not worry about the kids, then maybe it's a good trip to take. I have the feeling though, that you couldn't do that either.

Our gas went back down to $3.89, which is where is was before Ike. I need to get gas today myself. Especially, if I am going to take the boys to the mall to finish up our cruise shopping!!!!

Good luck. AAA says 85% of the gas stations around here don't have gas. Only 3 stations had gas here last night. I was lucky, I only had to wait about 20 minutes!! The pipeline is picking up and Nashville got 2 fuel barges yesterday, so it will be back to normal in a few days.
