10/24/2009 Bash on the Boat Cruise (I'm with BOB) Thread #11
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is Thread #11 of the BOB threads.
If you're new to our group, you're not alone. Several of us have sailed together before (on the 10/20/07 Western Cruise - a.k.a. Konked Kruisers) and several more are new. To indicate the ones new to the group, we have put an * infront of their DIS name. There are 13 new DISers and 19 returning KKers.

The following is the same as the other first posts. For those of you new to our DIS Meet thread - WELCOME. There is plenty of good info in this post.
As usual, I'll be back here to update this post periodically. I will try to keep important information up here for all to reference as well as for all our new friends who come to cruise with us. If something of importance comes up, PM me and I will add the link.
We have dubbed this cruise "The Bash on the Boat" because so many people are celebrating birthdays or anniversaries on this cruise. You will also see "KK2" in the title. As you will read, many of us just sailed together on the 10/20/07 Western Cruise. So, with many of us returning here, we are dubbing this KK2. For those of you who didn't sail with us, please don't feel that you are not part of the group. We are a very open and welcoming/friendly bunch. We had such a great cruise last time, but feel it will be even better this time. Come along and enjoy the fun. We will get off-topic many times over the next 2 years, but it is a great way to get to know everyone.

A good place to start for planning this trip would be Cass' website. She has done a great job to organize almost everything you'll need for this cruise and posting here on the BOB board. Here is the link to her site: http://www.cassworld.ca/bobers.htm
Here are links to posts that we found important through this and the previous 2 threads.

Incase anyone is wondering what the FO game we play here on the B.O.B. cruise meets thread, Jen gave a good explanation of the game:
FO is a game (for lack of a better description) that was started on the Konked Kruiser thread that some of us belonged to for the October 07 cruise. Don't ask me who started it or how, I joined that threead late.
Anyway, the game in a nutshell....if you post, and your post is the beginning of a page, then you try to get the second post on the page also. It means you have started a "Fresh One" or "First One" (I forget what the actual term was).
Now, this isn't always as easy as it seems - if there are multiple posters on at the same time, and someone else gets the second post, you don't get to "claim the FO". The 40 second rule between postings comes into play.
We had decided to stop playing this little game when the DIS instituted limits on the lengths of threads....but old habits die hard, I guess, because some of us still try to claim our FO's (I am guilty!). So, play, or ignore, either one is fine! We're all just about having fun and being fans of DCL one way or another here.

I can't stand the buses at CVG, although it is kind of neat being on the tarmac looking up at the aircraft. As far as convenience it stinks!

I had one everymorning for 20 mornings on the Magic. I did think of Cass's Rob the first couple of times. They were heaven, I did however noticed that the ones in the buffet were more shaped like a danish, whereas the one's at Palo Brunch were true crossaints

I don't recall seeing them in the case at QC Cafe all trip. I'd walk past and glance in, but never seen them there.
I was happy to see them on the Palo buffet. They weren't as good at Topsiders, but served the purpose nonetheless.

Jeff,
I am not sure if I posted this yet or not, but I saw Ronald at Palo's. Seems that is his permanent position, he was just a temp for the dining room while Yolande was gone. Of course if I had known this I would have requested him instead of our other server that we liked.

I've only been to Palo brunch once and the chocolate croissants they had there were exactly like the ones at the buffet, disguised as a danish!! :rolleyes1 On our first cruise, I passed them over for the first 2 days because I thought they were a danish, which I am not too keen on. I'm going to close with some humorous thoughts on home remedies.
1. AVOID CUTTING YOURSELF WHEN SLICING VEGETABLES BY GETTING
SOMEONE ELSE TO HOLD THE VEGETABLES WHILE YOU CHOP.
2. AVOID ARGUMENTS WITH THE FEMALES ABOUT LIFTING THE TOILET
SEAT BY USING THE SINK.
3. FOR HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE SUFFERERS ~ SIMPLY CUT YOURSELF AND
BLEED FOR A FEW MINUTES, THUS REDUCING THE PRESSURE ON YOUR
VEINS. REMEMBER TO USE A TIMER.
4. A MOUSE TRAP PLACED ON TOP OF YOUR ALARM CLOCK WILL PREVENT
YOU FROM ROLLING OVER AND GOING BACK TO SLEEP AFTER YOU HIT
THE SNOOZE BUTTON.
5. IF YOU HAVE A BAD COUGH, TAKE A LARGE DOSE OF LAXATIVES. THEN
YOU'LL BE AFRAID TO COUGH.
6. YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT
DOESN'T MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE
AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE.
7. IF YOU CAN'T FIX IT WITH A HAMMER, YOU'VE GOT AN ELECTRICAL
PROBLEM.
DAILY THOUGHT:
SOME PEOPLE ARE LIKE SLINKIES - NOT REALLY GOOD FOR ANYTHING BUT THEY BRING A SMILE TO YOUR FACE WHEN PUSHED DOWN THE STAIRS.

Are you cruising in or staying on island? We were there last year for a week and love, love, love Aruba!! We would rather go there than Hawaii. The people are more friendly, the flight is more manageable and the cost of things was less than Hawaii. Any questions, just ask.

We're looking at coming in on that Thursday and the Rate doesn't apply to Thursday.
Luckily, AAA has a rate of $107.10 on Thursday and $116.10 for Friday. Average is $111.60, so not too much more than the Rate for the group.
I'm looking at the rates for the 2 nights we'll be there and it is $135/$145 for a 1 Bedroom King Whirlpool Suite. It has a pull-out sleeper in the living room portion.
Here is the description:
Our Two Room Whirlpool Suite Features:
-Our exclusive Sleep Number bed with air chambers allows you to adjust the firmness of the mattress to your exact level of comfort with the touch of a button. To further enhance comfort, you will appreciate our bed?s quality linens, down pillows and finished with a premium down-filled comforter nestled in an ultra-soft duvet cover
-High Speed Internet Access
-Whirlpool in the Bedroom
-Pullout Sofa Sleeper in Living Room
-Workdesk with Cordless Phone
-2 Large Screen TV's-Cable TV with HBO
-Refrigerator-Microwave-Wetbar
Not sure which to go for.

I wish I could book the Radisson, but have to wait until June to finalize my travel arrangements. I have to make sure I am not getting transferred. I don't want to make airline arrangements for Hartford if I live near, Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Cincinnati, etc.

I wish I could book the Radisson, but have to wait until June to finalize my travel arrangements. I have to make sure I am not getting transferred. I don't want to make airline arrangements for Hartford if I live near, Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Cincinnati, etc.
If our flight arrangements get us to MCO late, we will stay at the MCO Hyatt, but I would really like to get in earlier so we can have a good meal again at Grills!
It doesn't hurt to book a room at the Radisson, no $$ is needed now, you can cancel up to a day or two ahead of time and not have to pay for the room.

Better bring some bleach to put in the whirlpool......

I wish we could book at the Radisson....but with the whole crew of family coming, it's going to be quite a trick of logistics to get us all to port. I think we're going to end up doing what we did for '07 - stay at a hotel near the airport (probably not the Hyatt), get our own ground transportation Saturday morning, and get to port by 9:30-10:00 am. Last time, I got about the last #2 boarding pass (which I traded to Tart and Dawg since my mom ended up with a #3) which was just fine.
I guess I'll just have to wait and see all my DIS buddies at port!

All airlines except Air Tran should be out at 330 days. You'd have to calc from the day you're going go down to get the outbound.
Now if you're doing the round trip, you'll have to wait until 330 days from that date.
Since there are 365 from 2008 to 2009, just add 35 days to the date you plan on coming back (or flying out if booking 2 one-ways). We plan on Nov 1st, so that would be December 5th (I think).
I always start looking a couple days earlier just in case it happens to pop up early. Plus, I usually start checking at midnight each day.

We hardly use ours at all. Heck, DS uses it more than we do. In fact, he was just in it a couple nights ago. Before that, it was him who was last in it.
Everyone wants one when they buy or build, but no body uses them. The big thing now are the "spa" showers. Now that I would like to have. I take a shower everyday, can't remember the last time I sat in the tub.

They have 7 night cruises out of San Juan to those destinations.
You can get to Aruba, Cartagena, Panama on an 11 night cruise out of Miami (round trip) also.
If you do 9 or 10 nights, you can get to the Islands you mentioned as well.
I just can't figure out why DCL sails at 18 knots to go to St. Maarten all the time when they could sail at 23 for those first 2 sea days and get to Antigua or some other island further down.
Then go to St. Thomas or better yet, maybe go to San Juan once in a while.
Need something different than their usual two Caribbean itineraries.

He was probably more afraid of us then us of him. Although he wouldn't run and hide when we came by.

That would be Eagle beach most likely. The time share properties are right across the street from Eagle beach.
That must be it. The pictures we have seen of the resort look nice and the beach pretty. I want one of those umbrella thingies to sit under!!!!!

Thanks. We couldn't believe how beautiful that sunset was. Heather and I ran up to Deck 4 for pics. I think Sean did as well.
Who would have thought the best sunsets would have came from Cartagena.
We would go back there again on a cruise ship (wouldn't stay there for a vacation). Lots to see.

Wow I stay on the computer doing other things while keeping the DIS open and very little activity. I come back after cleaning the kitchen and find myself behind 3 pages! LOL
Wow Jeff enjoy that mandatory meeting. Mandatory meetings always feature the things in life that require the most common sense. I just salute and go, but usually dread them!
However, the one mandatory meeting that I will always go to happily is a "muster drill" :thumbsup2

Thanks! When we took off on this flight my daughter said to me, "Daddy there is lightning out there." I said to her that it was just the strobe light on the plane she was seeing, but sure enough there was a storm coming in.
When we did our climbout it was really interesting to see the storm from a different angle. You could see the cloud tops surging and the frequent lightning. It was really quite a show.

I'd use it if we had one....I love taking baths.

And I never have time to pan vacations during the work day. 90 kids this year! Too much to take care of most days. We are documenting ourselves crazy!
The highlight of my day is sitting at the practice field with the other moms goofing off. Today we discussed buying shoes at discount stores. I complained that nothing good is left for a 7 1/2 shoe. My friend can wear a 5 1/2 or 6 and finds all the good stuff. One mom said that at a size 9 1/2 she only can find what the drag queens won't wear!:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

It's not a whirlpool that has standing water in it, it is one like you'd have in your master bath at home, you fill it when you use it.

It's the same stuff every year. Then we have to go to the classroom. Not sure what was different then when the teacher came to the house? :confused3
I really wonder if they would track us down if we didn't go. Not sure if Suz signed us in or not.

I soooo know that feeling. We have to attend a Food Bank Meeting once a quarter. One day we had a freak breakdown with one of our vehicles. Our full size van had the power window motor break in the dead of winter and had to go in for emergency repair. Elaine had our other car in Hartford for a meeting. It was like getting an Executive Order from the President to get excused to basically a housekeeping meeting where they just go over procedure and blah, blah, blah. I felt like a little kid at the principal's office and not an executive!
