Just curious as to whether there is any chance of getting a secret porthole room if you sail using DVC points? Anybody had any luck with this?

Great question but I have the feeling that not many have gotten the secret porthole rooms.
When we booked on Dec 31st (11 mo window) they were already all booked for our Nov 30th cruise.
I dont believe they are "secret"!

YES! I asked for a cat 10 and was offered deck 5 or deck 7 (I think). I picked 5 because it was near the kids clubs. Later, I found out I had a "secret porthole room". A very nice surprise!

We also got a secret porthole room with DVC points on our 4/00 cruise. I think, however, that these rooms have become much more widely known since then so the chances of getting one with DVC points is smaller now. I know I couldn't get one for our 11/30 cruise this year.

Well, we won't count on it or expect it, but certainly will ask given that it seems like it could be at least a remote possibility for availability on any given cruise.

When you talk to MS, just have them ask if there is a Cat 10 on Deck 5. This is the locations of the "Special" inside staterooms. When I booked our last cruise with DVC points, I told them to look for a Cat 10 on Deck 5, if one was not available, then I would take.......... Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get one since I only booked a few months from the cruise. But it never hurts to ask. :D

Thanks for the tip, Robin. I had scouted out the ship's diagrams and that would have been what I expected. Thanks for confirming.

When we booked our 8/24 cruise right at the 11 month window, we asked for the secret porthole rooms, but they were long gone. I guess they are getting more and more popular.

Hi,
We originally booked a Category 10 for our upcoming May 18 Eastern cruise. A few weeks after booking, I called DCL and asked how much more to move to a Category 9, so we could have a porthole. Only $100 more! So of course we took it.

My understanding is that if you book with DVC points and ask to change your room, there is a penalty fee to pay, so asking for an upgrade might be more than just the difference in the rooms. Be sure you know what you have to pay before you make the deal so you know if it is worth it to you.

I agree that the secret porthole rooms are not secret any more and so are harder to get. When we booked our October 26, 2002 cruise, 9 months out, I asked specifically for a hidden porthole room by room number. The DVC fellow had to put me on hold to go see if it was available but it was not. None of them were for my cruise. But if you want one, ask DVC about availability of those 6 cabins by number and expect to wait while he goes to check. We then asked for the category 11 room that we had on our first DCL cruise and it was available so we will have a reunion with that room this time.

I understand that DCL staterooms are larger than on other ships and from the one that I stayed in on Royal Caribbean I found it true. We had no couch and only one straight chair that was for the vanity. The cabin seemed cluttered all the time and there were only two of us. Hard to watch TV in that room too, but they had no channel from the bridge which is our favorite on Disney, so it was not a big deal.

Have a wonderful time. No matter where you stay it will be great.

We have gone on three cruises using DVC points. Each time, I asked Member Services if we could have a specific room and they checked and we got it. We always find the room number listed on our DVC confirmation letter.
