I can't seem to get enough of these DIS Boards, especially the cruise board, since we will be doing our first cruise in November. I am constantly checking them, looking for new post and to see what is going on with everyone else. Even if it has only been a few minutes and I am on my computer, I am constantly checking this thing!! It has been so helpful in planning our trip, and I can't wait until I can post a trip report. I am afraid it is taking over my life!! Anyone have a cure??;)

My husband just asked me tonight if there is a 12 step for obsessive Disney planning!
Mind you he's just going along for the trip with nothing to worry about.

Hi - "My name is Barb and Im an addict"
Yup, only recently (when I complain of too much to do) has DH begun to say I DIS too much.
He has seen how our Oct vaca came out because of the DIS so he wouldnt interfere too much with my DIS time.
He knows I have been "researching" our Nov 30th cruise now.
I read Birnbaum's in 1996 because we didnt have a computer. When we returned he was telling everyone I knew all the nooks n crannies.
Same thing with now but the computer is more fun.

We found these boards last year before our Easter trip to WDW. Couldn't have done as much with them! Went on the crusie in Jan '02 and to don't know how anyone cruises without checking out the DIS boards. DH and I check them several times a day looking for that 1 piece of wisdom we haven't thought about or trying to help someone that has a question we can answer.

I was always looking for information because I am such a planner and one day just happened to "fall" onto this web site. I was always reading the DCL website and calling DCL for information, but it doesn't compare to this valuable information!! Since then I have been on these boards everyday looking for all different ideas and tips.
A special THANK YOU to everyone on these boards that has given helpful information.
Can't wait to take our WONDER cruise 11/03/02!!

There is strength in numbers!!! The first thing I do when I come in to work is check the boards (my pc at home is too slow) even before my business email!
Kar3600: When in July are you cruising??? I'm still looking for fellow cruisers for our July 14th cruise on the Wonder.

I am with all of you and seem to have the longest wait. May 2003 we sail for the first time. Ive spent a week at home between changing jobs and I think I have spent every waking moment on these boards. I have even started paging threw the old threads in search of more great ideas and those little stories that put a tear in my eye. I am hooked!!!!! I think I need help!!!
370 days and counting everyone of them:crazy:

Dear DiznyMagic:
I too am sailing on July 14th, can't wait, this is our second cruise, but when you read these boards, you realize how much "stuff" you miss..........this ship is so large and so much to take in you just can't get to all of it. So the only solution: KEEP CRUSING!!!!

Me too...
And I'm desperate! My cat ate the connecting cable for my modem at home and they can't come until Saturday to fix it!
I'm stealing some time from my lunch break at work to get my DIS fix.
I'll confess, too, that I check the Port Canaveral web cam occasionally (OK, frequently)!

Wow, We could form quite the support group if we really wanted to. But who'd want to try to stop this addiction LOL?! My DH thinks I read the board too much, but he loves the tips and advice I share and actually has perused himself. So maybe the best strategy for a spouse who thinks you're addicted is to get them addicted themselves!

To VCNMICKEY:
My wait is definatly longer than yours....June 2004. But what I find most valuable is the information that I can pass along to my Girl Scout troop who I will be with then. I went with DD, DS & DH in June 2000 to WDW, and find that acting as a travel agency for the troop is quite different. The logistics is mind boggling. But with the help of these boeards, my gruop is becoming very informed. The best tips I have been able to passs along because if y'all:
1. Navigators
2. Fold - out - of - the - ceiling beds
3. Soda mugs
4. Non-disney ground transfers
5. Excursions and prices ahead of time
6. On board spending and the KKTW cards.
7. Over the door shoe racks
8. traveling alarm clock
9. Dining rotations, menues, and
10. Common Grounds (my troop will be 15 - 17 yr olds)
11. Tipping
12. Relax, it's a vacation for Gosh sakes!!!!

If we formed a support group, where would we meet--Here? Isn't that like AA meeting at Cheers? :D There is plenty of great information, and it's so fun to read what's going on. Girl Scout Leader, I'm curious--how on earth do you plan a trip like this for scouting? Granted, I'm helping to lead a first-year Brownie troop, but we barely got through a father/daughter spaghetti dinner! Are they going as part of earning badges or some other thing, or just for fun? Good luck to you!

I have had most of my 6 girls in my troop since 1st grade. They are like extra daughters. (My hubby never knows when he picks up the phone who is calling him Dad) Traditionally in this Service Unit, the Senior Girl Scouts take a whopper of a trip to top off thier years of service work. Some others have went to Switzerland & England, and this years batch is going to Williamsburg and Washington DC. My girls are in 8th grade now, so planning way ahead. We bounced around alot of ideas for anyplace they could think of. I made the big mistake of brinig in the Cruise and WDW video for them to consider. So, here we come. We have 6 girls and 5 moms. ( one mom is mother to two sisters) which makes my job alot easier. But coming from a very rural area, I have osme who have never flown, never been out of Michigan, etc. But my ast. Leader's hubby is retired air force, so we are beginning our trip with 6 nights and 5 days at Shades of Green, then 3 nights on the Wonder. Trip of a lifetime. We are fundraising in a major way. Costs, without arifare (no way to tell now what they might be) and without meals inside the parks comes to about $1,000 per person. Chaperones are paying ther own way, so the girls have to have $6.000. Yikes. Guess that's more than you wanted to know, huh?

Actually, that's a lot of great information. Up here (upstate NY, rural Saratoga County), you tend to stay with "your girls" for as far as they go in scouting. So I don't know how long I'll be in it--I hadn't planned to be a leader, but here I am. It's good for the girls to be planning ahead, saving money, and hopefully they'll learn some important lessons in finance both beforehand and on the trip (i.e., is that latte worth it when you worked for 2 years to get on this ship? Different from putting it on Mom and Dad's account...). That's great that you're doing this. Since I'm new at this, I've been asking every experienced scout leader I know about how things work. I'll refrain from picking your brains unless I run into you over on the GSA boards...:)

We all need a Friends of DIS Group. I noticed that Friends of Bill meet on the ship. Could we get DCL to give us a room and schedule it in the Navigator?
We have had to pay for a kindergarten aid in one of my son's classes. We have fundraised in every way, shape and form. Do you have a See's Candy near you? Candy bars sell well, 50 cent profit per bar. Group garage sale. Silent auction. Get donations from everyone, (amazing what companies will donate, or give at cost), craft sales.....
12 step program for fundraisers not needed, this addiction we are perfectly willing to give up.

I'm sorry if you have to read this twice, but I am so happy to see
disney fans as obsessed as I am. I used to read romance novels and then I was reading Birnbaums and now it's these sites that I'm not very adept in, but anyway, we are going on our FIRST Disney cruise on Jan. 26, 2003 (maybe 25th) 4 day Wonder and I can't stop reading what everyone here writes. I love Disney. Would love to find anyone else traveling with us. I have four kids, 8, 11, 13 and 15. All boys except the 11 year old.

Who? Me? Naaah, I'm not addicted.
I'm addicted to DIS. I spent way too much time on it. DW must be thinking that I'm on some kind of chat room and having one of those you know what. When this board crashed a few months back, I was checking every couple of hours to see if it's back in action. :o

I half heartedly believed that it would be too painful to return to the Boards after our April 7th 4 day Wonder. I wallowed for two days and decided just to do a "quick check" for any comments from fellow DVCers about the experience. From that day forward I'm back once, twice or more a day. Of course having booked a 7 day Western Caribbean for February 1, 2003 eased the pain a bit.....

My wife says that I am addicted too. We can hardly wait til our March 22, 2003 DCL. :bounce:

Before our March 16th cruise, I was on the DIS constantly. The DIS is how I found out there was a fire on board, then reading techdavidt (Kathy) post reaassured me that our cruise was still on. Well, I thought I wouldn't need the DIS when I came back. WRONG!! Now when my dh asks me what are you doing. Oh Im on the DIS, he just sighs!
I just love these boards, and can't wait until 2005 when we can go on the western!:D

I think we could have a lot of fun with a support group--can't you just imagine our meetings? "Hi, I'm Sue, and I'm a Dis-aholic! It started so innocently--I was trying to gather information for our upcoming trip. Then I needed more, and more. Soon I was ignoring the kids, neglecting my house, my job, my friends. My husband said I had a problem, but I denied it--I said I could quit whenever I wanted to! Soon I was sneaking visits when I was at work, at a friend's house. I was ashamed, but I couldn't stop it!" And we can have our list of questions, like "Do you DIS when you're by yourself? Do you find you DIS more than your friends? Have you and your spouse fought ove rthe amount of DIS time you take?" I think I'd better stop now, before my DH catches me...

Yes, I am addicted. It started in '98 when I began researching our first disney vacation. I am a big planner and love gathering info. but quickly I started scanning the "Disney Search " feature. This led to other cruise line links and destination message boards. Recently, I have been spotted downloading and printing coupons from Capt. Marvin's(Grand Cayman) amd Mister Sanchos (Cozumel). A couple of months ago I found this board and I have become a daily visitor. I have tried to cut down to a couple of days a week but it is hard. When reading the forum I immagine I am on the cruise and I really enjoy it. My first cruise will be Feb. 2003. Until then I will just enjoy reading everything I can. Keep the messages coming.

I think I need professional help...all I think about is the cruise. Driving everyone nuts! I got my video yesterday, watched it 3 times so far. Showed it to DH a while ago and got all choked up!!!

Wow, someone else who gets choked up watching that video! My DH has learned to grab the box of tissues and come running when the kids put the video in!
And my older kids (20 & 22) learned that the Magic Whistle blows whenever I maximize a window on my computer and have asked me to get professional help!
I get all the professional help I need right here on these boards!

Disneybets - when in February are you going? We are taking our first Disney cruise February 8/03 on the Magic... My family thinks I am crazy doing all this planning so early, but they will be happy when the time comes.... I love the video too. I watch it at least a couple of times a week...
