I was reading on the theme park board that Disney-MGM in the past has promoted Star Wars and is having a celebration with the opening of the film May 16th. Anyone think we may be lucky enough to get a premier on the May 11th-18th cruise??? That would be great!

I doubt it. The pattern has been that "Prem-Ears" are in the Walt Disney Theatre on the Tuesday after the movie's general release.

Actually Dave on my past two cruises we have had new release movies shown on the Friday that they were released. Of course they were both Disney Movies (one was Tarzan, the "something or another" of the Titans.)
I am not expecting Star Wars to show on our cruise simply because it is not a Disney Movie. I am sure it would cost a pretty penny for them to get the rights to show it free on the ship.

Yes, the last Star Wars was very restricted - no passes for the first 8 weeks, no student discounts, no employee passes, and all. In other words, Lucas wanted every penny possible. Therefore, the ship would have to pay for every single person to watch the film.
Most premieres that do take place on Fridays are on the Wonder (like Monsters Inc. and Snow Dogs). It is Castaway Cay day on the Magic, and the Magic normally plays them on Tuesdays (Monsters showed on the Magic the following week).
Since prints are available at the last minute, the Wonder can get theirs on Thursday when the Magic would need to get theirs the Saturday before (unless they got a print at a port).
They have shown other studios films (like Cats and Dogs), but it isn't for a while after they are released.
I have a part time job at a movie theatre and we haven't received the laundry list of rules for the new Star Wars yet.

So could this movie be showing during our May 26 cruise?

Both of our Friday premiers were on the Magic. They didn't make a big deal about it. They just cancelled all the scheduled movies and showed the new movies all day.

Hate to say it - but it is very, very unlikely that it would be playing on the May 26 cruise.

Do you suppose there's any chance it could Premier on the May 19th Wonder?
