Well, here is my (our) review of 18 days of free disney dining from Aug 14 to 26 and Aug 30 to Sept 5.

Before I start let me introduce myself. My brother and travelling buddy Tom and I live in Austria and we travel to WDW once a year to induldge on Disney food and enjoy the parks.
This summer we were lucky enough to score 18 days of Free Disney Dining which we enjoyed to the fullest.
Please keep in mind that English is NOT my mother tongue and excuse any mistakes made while trying to review our dining experience.

Tom and I departed from Austria on Aug 9 and flew to Miami, our starting point to this year's vacation. After visits to Key West and Fort Lauderdale we arrived at WDW on Aug 14 with reservations for Mama Melrose.

We had picked the Fantasmic Package, since it offered an additional appetizer even on the DDP. We arrived about 20 minutes early and while waiting to be seated saw a lot of people being turned away. We were seated about 15 minutes after we had checked in at a nice small table right opposite the kitchen. It was a lot of fun watching the chefs!

For his starter Tom chose the Crispy Calamari with peppers and onions and a side of spicy marinara sauce (all descriptions come from allearsnet) and loved every bite of it.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_7151.jpg

I had the Mozzarella and Tomatoes - with marinated sweet onions, balsamic drizzle, extra virgin olive oil and fresh basil and it was as tasty as it looked. What a start to our dining extravaganza!

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_7148.jpg

Our main courses were the Charred Butcher Tender Steak cooked medium with gorgonzola butter on roasted red pepper polenta, grilled asparagus and red wine reduction and the Wood-grilled Chicken tossed with Pipette pasta with artichokes, peas, roasted red peppers in a basil and four cheese cream sauce. We cleaned BOTH plates - both were really great!

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_7155.jpg

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_7153.jpg

We were both quite full by that time, but could not "refuse" dessert. So we "had to" order some.
I had the Honey Hazelnut and Ricotta Cheesecake and Tom had another favourite of ours, the Warm Chocolate Truffle Cake. It took us a while but we finished these "yummy" treats as well.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_7158.jpg

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_7160.jpg

We were then handed our Fantasmic ticket, which we later gave to another couple since we did not intend to see it.

Well, this concludes our first day. But this is to be continued ........ next up Wolfgang Puck's Express!

August 15 - Wolfgang Puck's Express, snack's from Goofy's Candy Co and dinner at the Kona Cafe!

Day 2 of our food feast started out with coffee, tea and a few oreo cookies in our POR room before we made our way over to check out WPE (Wolfgang Puck's Express). We were very eager to see his eatery since he is a fellow Austrian, even though he has been living in the US for a long time now.

The pizzas sounded yummy on the menu so I went for the Spicy Chicken and Sweet Peppers - all natural chicken, roasted red and yellow peppers, mozzarella, tomoatoes, leeks, crushed red chilis and fresh cilantro which was actually to die for! I could not believe I finished the whole thing! :rotfl2:

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_7167.jpg

Tom went for the pasta dish that morning and had the Rigatoni with Chicken Alfredo which came with a caesar salad. The pasta was cooked just right, the chicken moist and the sauce so tasty. And the salad was a delight as well.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_7169.jpg

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_7170.jpg

As we got a dessert with this counter service Tom tried the chocolate cookie and I tried the Creme Bruleé, which was one of the best I ever had. It was hard to believe that such a creamy delight was served at a CS place.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_7172.jpg

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_7173.jpg

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_7171.jpg

What we really loved about WPE was, that even though this is a CS place, you just place your order and the food is brought to your table on a real plate with metal cutlery and the waiters even get you refills on your drinks. We loved it VERY much there, you'll find out that this was not our only visit.

Since we were at DTD anyway we decided to stop over at Goofy's Candy Co and look at the treats you can make yourself. We only wanted to look but were so tempted that we actually had two treats made!

One of them was the Marshmellow dipped into dark chocolate and then dipped into chopped pecans and oreo crumbs, drizzled with white chocolate

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_7191.jpg

and the second one was a giant fudge cookie dipped into dark chocolate, then dipped into crushed M&Ms and peanuts, drizzled with caramel. Unfortunately some of the caramel got stuck on the box. We did not taste them until later in the day and it took us a few days to finish the cookie! It was HUGE!

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_7193.jpg

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_7196.jpg

We could not resist taking a few pix of the CM making those treats.

Wow! I hate to sound snobby, but after so many bad reviews on the DIS, I am so shocked to see your food from Mama Melrose!

It looks delicious! Too bad I already have my dining planned for this year...or I may just have to figure out how to squeeze it in.

And, I had no idea that you could get a little creme brulee at WPE. That's nice to know. :thumbsup2

August 15 continued .......... dinner at Kona Cafe!

After enjoying some time at the resort it was time for dinner at the Kona Cafe! We both love it there!
We drove over to the Polynesian and signed in right at 5pm. We were handed a beeper, which went off while we were leaving the podium - speak about fast service.
We had a very nice female server who explained that our DDP included any main course, dessert and soft drink. We asked her if we could use our DDE card on any extras and we were. So we started out by ordering some drinks.
Tom chose the Classic Mai Tai - Dark rum, pineapple juice and citrus juices - yum!

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/IMG_7200.jpg

I had the Malibu Macaw - a combo of Malibu coconut rum, Midori melon liqueur, and pineapple and cranberry juices. Both were recommended by the server and mine was not just yum - it was YUM YUM!!!

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/IMG_7198.jpg

Right after we had ordered the drinks the server returned with their soft, slightly sweet bread and Macademia nut butter! What a treat!

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/IMG_7197.jpg

We then ordered our main courses. Tom decided to try the Pomegranate Barbecued Pork Chop served on pan-roasted fingerling potatoes and applewood smoked bacon braised Swiss chard, which I had had in December during our last trip! It did not disappoint. The meat was juicy and tender and it is a VERY large pork chop!

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/IMG_7204.jpg

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/IMG_7205.jpg

I wanted to try something "new" (for us) and had the Shrimp and Scallops - panko breaded shrimp and pan-seared scallops with sticky rice and ponzu, spicy guava-passion fruit and wasabi cream sauces. Again a large serving and the only "negative" point was that ONE of the scallops was slightly oversalted. Happens easily! Otherwise the scallops and shrimp were very tender and cooked to perfection.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/IMG_7202.jpg

We never thought about skipping dessert though, we just love the sweet stuff too much :worship:!

So these were the desserts we chose - Tom chose the new one on the menu (couldn't remember it from our December trip), the Coconut Cream Kiki Tart with whipped cream and a rolled up praline cookie! He nearly finished the whole thing!

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/IMG_7208.jpg

I decided to be brave and tackle the Chocolate Fondue! I loved the dark chocolate taste on the fresh fruit and the macaroons and praline cookies were just melt in your mouth good!

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/IMG_7209.jpg

After dinner we took the Monorail to the TTC and went to Epcot for a while before we returned to the MK which had EEMH, but it was so packed we actually left early (it was open until 2am!)

Coming up next ......... Earl of Sandwich, Riverside Mill and Le Cellier! :goodvibes

August 16 - Earl of Sandwich, lunch in our room from Riverside Mill and dinner at Le Cellier

We started day 3 at DTD again. We had slept in a little and then decided to go and have a sandwich at the Earl of Sandwich. We had been there for the first time during our December trip and were eager to go back.
We decided to share two sandwiches, the The Earl's Club - roast turkey, smoked bacon, Swiss cheese, lettuce and tomato

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_7267.jpg

and the All American - roast turkey, buttermilk ranch, cranberries, cheddar cheese, lettuce and tomato, buttermilk Ranch

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_7269.jpg

which both were very good. For our dessert we picked up a 3 berry muffin crown

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_7274.jpg

and a brownie which we both saved for "later", meaning breakfast one of the next days. I have to admit that even we did not have them on the day we "purchased" them, they were still very nice.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_7275.jpg

Since Fay was lurking in the Atlantic we wanted to enjoy our convertable Ford Mustang rental while we still could and went to the Disney outlet malls to check out any good deals.
We arrived back at the resort about 4 hours later and since we had a rather late 7.30 Le Cellier reservation we thought about trying the resort's food court, the Riverside Mill. We decided on sharing a "create your own" salad. You get to choose between field greens and romaine leaves, chicken or beef and can then add any of the following toppings: bacon, blue cheese, broccoli, carrots, corn, chow mein noodles, cucumbers, dried cranberries, feta cheese, garbanzo beans, grape tomatoes, Kalamata olives, parmesan cheese, peas, and roasted red peppers. They even have a selection of dressings which are Caesar, Lite Italian, Mandarin Orange Sesame, Ranch, and Raspberry vinaigrette.
We chose the mixed field greens, some grilled chicken, bacon, corn, tomatoes and roasted red peppers, dressed with Lite Italian. The portion was more than generous for the two of us!

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_7291.jpg

Since we got dessert with our CS meal we picked up a carrot cake which was yummy, but VERY rich so we only had half of it and saved the rest for breakfast since we did not want to stuff ourselves too much before dinner. Le Cellier - yeah!!!!

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_7286.jpg

I just loved this year's vacation - we were vacationing for 28 days :woohoo: and even though we ran into Fay it was such a fun time, especially at Disney! And yes, we do go to the parks every day, but staying for that length of time we can take it easy and enjoy the resorts and DTD as well.

Loving your review - fantastic pictures! I agree on Wolfgang Puck express - we only found it near the end of our holiday. We couldn't believe we could get such a good CS meal with service on the DDP! We'd defintely go back.

One thing - did you leave a tip for your server? We weren't sure of the protocol of tipping for a 'CS' meal, but our server had been so attentive that we left her some dollars.

Keep up the good work!

And yes, we did tip the servers. Notice the plural? We went their SEVERAL times LOL! We were not sure about how that was handled, but since they were so attentive and had to practically do the same as serves at TS restaurants, so we tipped them. Glad we were not the only ones! :goodvibes

I love this food-filled trip report! You've made me terribly jealous. My next trip isn't until late 2009 and I'm suffering from Disney withdrawal!

I'm also pleased to see the high praise of the food coming from an Austrian. Austria had some of the most amazing food I've ever had.

Thanks for the reviews. You're doing a great job so far, I can't wait for the rest!

August 15 continued .......... dinner at Kona Cafe!

I've read quite a few posts where people thought the Shrimp and Scallops at Kona was too small a portion, which made me sad because that's the one menu item that caught my eye as I was making my ADRs. So I'm VERY glad to hear that you say it seemed like a large serving. Funny enough, the other entree that I'm considering is the pork chop.

Sorry for the long wait - but "back to work" got the better of me!

So, here we go again!
Aug 16 continued .......... dinner at Le Cellier!

After spending some time at the resort we headed out to Epcot for our dinner at Le Cellier.
It is one of our favourites, so we were really looking forward to it. We signed in about 10 minutes early and were seated about 15 minutes later. We got one of the slightly larger tables which made us feel very special. When our server came over we just could not believe our luck. It was Patrick!! He is one of the most fun servers and we had been seated in his part of the restaurant before.
We told him that we were on the DDP and were using the DDE for extras and it was okay with him. Tom ordered the Mango Smoothie with a splash of cranberry, while I stuck to my all time favourite, Diet Coke.
Patrick returned with our drinks after a very short time!

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_7300.jpg

As we had told him that we had been to the restaurant before he asked which was our favourite bread. The Pretzel bread of course!!!!!!!!! So next comes the bread and he even included 2 Pretzel sticks so we would not have to fight over it! ;)

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_7301.jpg

Then he was ready to take our order. Tom ordered the Spicy Chicken and Chipotle Sausage - with roasted corn polenta and sweet onion jam, which I had had before and he loved it very much. Boy, that sausage IS spicey!!

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_7307.jpg

Since I had ordered the Canadian Cheddar Cheese Soup - smoked bacon and Moosehead beer Patrick suggest to try the sausage with the soup and he was so right. It was an explosion of taste in your mouth and it took away some of the spicey taste of the sausage! But the soup on its own was to die for as well!

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_7303.jpg

Our main courses were - the New York Strip Steak - with bercy butter, balsamic red onions, watercress, and roasted Yukon potatoes for Tom, which he enjoyed very much

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_7312.jpg

and I went for my all time favourite and their signature dish, the Le Cellier Mushroom Filet Mignon - with wild mushroom risotto, white truffle and herb butter sauce - yummy, yummy, yummy is all I can add! That meat is melt in your mouth and the risotto tasted so nice!

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_7309.jpg

Even though we both were rather full at that time there was no chance we would pass on the desserts.
Tom opted for something light, the Seasonal Sorbet, which was tangerine if I remember correctly.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_7313.jpg

He nearly finished it all - he loved it and so did I after I got a taste.
But I had already set my heart on the Maple Creme Brulee and that is what I got!

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_7314.jpg

This one shares the top spot in my creme bruleč votings with the one from Wolfgang Puck! It is just so creamy and silky and just the right amount of crunchy caramelized sugar on the top! I loved it!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Illuminations had already started during our meal, but you could hear some of the music and hear the fireworks while still at the table. Even though the park was officially closed by then we did not feel rushed to finish our meal at all. Very good service.
We usually carry pins from DLRP to hand out to special CMs and Patrick definitely had earned one of them together with a VERY generous tip.

On the way out Tom pointed out the hidden Mickey in the "wine cellar" to me! It sure is swell!

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_7295.jpg

We headed out of the park and went back to POR and were greated by one of "our resident frogs"! There were three of them and we really loved coming back to our corner room and seeing them!

Aug 17 - Flame Tree Barbecue and Tokyo Dining, preferred fireworks viewing at Epcot

We got up early that day and had cookies and tea for breakfast and were at the AK shortly after rope drop. After doing a few rides we went to try Flame Tree for the first time.
We had always given it a miss since it is always SO hot at AK during the summer months and we did not want to eat outside. But after all the rave reviews we just wanted to try it.
We got in line around 11.15 and were in line behind a family of five which took about 10 minutes to order 5 meals. They ordered, cancelled, ordered again, changed, ordered some more, cancelled some more. I took pity for the CM who had to take their order.
But it left us with plenty of time to figure out what we wanted.
After ordering we followed a path behind the Flame Tree down to the water and there was a covered area, overlooking Everest. What a peaceful place to have lunch.
We had decided to share the 1/2 Slab of St. Louis Ribs served with baked beans and corn muffin and a pulled beef sandwich.
The ribs were SO good. Very tasty and we had some BBQ sauce on the side, so eating them wasn't messy at all. The beans were a bit on the sweet side, different from what we were used to, but they were quite nice. We both loved the corn muffin. First time we had had one and it was great!

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_7346.jpg

The pulled beef sandwich was a generous helping and very good as well! The beef was very tender and tasty.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_7345.jpg

For our desserts we chose the Key Lime Pie and the frozen Lemonade.

August 17 continued - Tokyo Dining

After a relaxing break at the resort we headed to the TTC and used the Monorail to go to Epcot for our Tokyo Dining reservation.
This was one reservation I was nervous about. Tom likes Japanese, but this was my first REAL encounter of it. I had had sushi before, but only the pre-packaged stuff.
We arrived there a little early to find out that central reservations had made our reservation at the Japanese Steakhouse, not the Tokyo Dining. The CM signing us in was very helpful and we were able to get a table at our desired restaurant.
After about a 20 minute wait we were led to our table. Our server was very sweet, but unfortunately her English was VERY hard to understand, so smiling and pointing to things were in order. She also whispered more than she spoke, so we were in for a fun time.
Before we were even able to order she brought out hot towels to clean our hands. Then she took our drink orders and returned with them to take our orders.
I ordered the Ginza Gozen a Tempura and sushi combination, which is allowed on the DDP and I wanted to try their sushi.
The food came on one big "tray" and had a plate of 5 pieces of sushi, which was fresh and tasted quite nice. I liked the pickled ginger that came with it, not so much the wasabi, which tasted different from what I was used to. The rice was bland and sticky, but tasted nice after being dipped into soy. The green stuff in the little yellow bowl was okay, but the dark stuff (whatever it was) was very odd tasting.
The tempura was to die for! It was crisp and nicely seasoned and there were scallops, shrimps, asperagus, mushroom caps and pumpkin. VERY very good!!
I just wish my chopstick skills would have been better - I had to ask for a fork :rotfl2:

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_7390.jpg

Tom had chosen the Shinjuku Gozen, a Tempura and sashimi combination. He liked his dish very much and thought the fish was very fresh and tasty. He loved the tempura (same as mine) too. Plus - he CAN eat with chopsticks. :lmao:

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_7392.jpg

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_7393.jpg

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_7394.jpg

For our desserts Tom chose the Green Tea Pudding, which we thought would be a bit on the bitter side, but on the contrary, it had a slightly sweet taste and was very nice and light. Odd colour though!

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_7396.jpg

I went the more secure route and ordered the chocolate ginger cake. What a surprise! A light sponge cake with chocolate cream and a light ginger finish.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_7395.jpg

After dinner we wandered through WS and into Futureworld. There was time to fit in a few rides before we headed back to Marokko for the preferred fireworks viewing.
We were the first people there and decided on a spot to view Illuminations. It turned out we had picked a very good spot and enjoyed the fireworks very much.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_7455.jpg

After the fireworks we went back to the Monorail and travelled to the MK for EMH. Needless to say when we got back to Oak Manor we were greeted by our friend Froggie and his family again.

Aug 18 - Wolfgang Puck's Express, Riverside Mill and Raglan Road

Since we had come back to the resort very late the night before we decided to sleep in and headed out shortly before 11am to hit Wolfgang Puck's again.
I had done massive research on the DIS, so I talked Tom into trying one of WPE`s signature dishes, the Rosemary Rotisserie Chicken - served with house-made garlic mashed potatoes. I tried a bit and it was very moist and tender, with just a hint of rosemary and those mashed potatoes were just heavenly. Needless to say he cleared his plate.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_7472.jpg

I had another pizza. This time I tried the Barbecue Chicken Pizza. Thank god I was really hungry, it would have been a sin to leave some of it behind!

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_7471.jpg

For dessert I had another Creme Bruleé. Forgot to take a photo because I was so looking forward to it. But you can see it in the background in the next photo.
Tom tried the All Natural Frozen Vanilla Yoghurt with fresh strawberries! Very yummy indeed!

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_7476.jpg

We decided it was time to go outlet shopping, so we went to the "Former Beltz Mall" (I always forget what it is called now) to have a look what the Disney outlet store had to offer.

When we finally got back to the resort I remembered something I had wanted to try. A Magic Cookie Bar from the foodcourt.
I tried it ................ and

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_7486.jpg

was HOOKED!!! What a yummy treat! And only a snack credit!

To be continued .........

August 18 continued .......... Raglan Road

After we had spent the afternoon shopping and nibbling on the Magic Cookie Bar we were ready to go to Pleasure Island and check out Raglan Road.
I have to admit that we rarely go to Pleasure Island, so we had never thought about eating at Raglan Road before.
We had a little time to spare so we checked out the whole Pleasure Island area before heading to the restaurant to sign in.
After being given a beeper it took about 20 minutes for us to be led to our table which was to the side of the main dining area where the entertainment was about to start.
While we were looking at the menu we both realized that it was near to impossible to talk to each other, it was LOUD in that restaurant. And to top it off we were seated next to a party that had a lady laughing very loudly, remember Fran Drescher in "The Nanny" - just like her, only louder! :lmao:

When the waitress finally appeared Tom ordered an Irish beer, a Kilkenny if I remember correctly. He said it was very nice.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_7516.jpg

Next up was some olive oil that was infused with a Guinness reduction.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_7517.jpg

They brought out a bowl of "Sodabread" rolls with it. These were the most disgusting rolls I ever had at WDW! Hard and tasting like sawdust. Not even dipping and more dipping into the olive oil made it more tasty. Yuck!!

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_7518.jpg

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_7519.jpg

We had chosen to share a starter and it looked like a fun dish when it arrived! The Calamari City - Salt 'n' Pepper calamari and mixed tempura vegetables served with a spicy remoulade did NOT disappoint! The tempura was crisp and well seasoned and the portion was definitely enough for us to share.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_7520.jpg

While we were finishing the last few bites they brought out our main courses. Again, VERY generous portions and neither of us could finish them, even though they both were excellent!
Tom had Kevin's Heavenly Ham - Chef Kevin's signature dish. Oven-roasted loin of ham with an Irish Mist glaze. Served with braised cabbage and creamed potato - very moist ham and delicious cabbage and potatoes.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_7525.jpg

I love Shepard's Pie and that was what I ordered. The photo does not do it justice. The portion was HUGE!!!!! and very tasty. The sauce was soooooo good!

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_7524.jpg

In the meantime the band was playing and the Irish Dancer was on stage and with the occasional outburst of "Fran" laughter it had become impossible to have a conversation! We were kind of reduced to "signing" to each other.
When the waitress came to ask about desserts, it was VERY hard to understand her and even more surprising to hear that only half of the choices on the menu were available.
We both ordered our desserts and right after that, she brought over the bill! Having worked in a restaurant it really made me mad to suggest to pay for your meal before you have even seen the last course. So I pretended not to see it.
It took a very long time to bring out our desserts. I had ordered Ger's Bread & Butter Pudding, which was served cold with kind of tasteless "Creme Anglais" but very tasty butterscotch sauce. For the time it took to bring it out one could have thought they would have been able to heat it a bit.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_7536.jpg

Tom had ordered the Dunbrody Kiss, a very chocolatey dessert. It tasted nice but for those of you who watch Chef Gordon Ramsay - he would have had a nervous breakdown, had he seen the "smeared" plate we got!

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_7531.jpg

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_7534.jpg

So, to sum it up - The food was quite good (even the cold bread and butter pudding) and we would go back, but we would definitely go at a less busy time and ask for a table away from entertainment, because of the noise level.

Tom had developed a headache, so we called it a night and went back to POR. I was a bit disappointed my friend Froggie wasn't in his usual place, but was happy to find his friend on one of the columns right outside our door!

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_7544.jpg

But I'm drooling over the magic cookie bar. I need to make some of those again. Mmmmm...

They are best when they are fresh and still moist. Most of the time, people let them dry out too much. Mmmmm...

LOL I have been eating all day, and now I am hungry again, thanks to eveyone's food reports. :rotfl:

Aug 19 - Riverside Mill breakfast, a snack from Japan, lunch at the Mara and a few more treats from Goofy's Candy Co and dinner at Boatwright's

Fay was here to stay! While Tom brewed some tea for the two of us I used a break in the rainshowers to walk over to the foodcourt and pick up some breakfast. This is where the Marks and Spencer bag, I have had for quite a while came in very handy, LOL!

I got the Breakfast Platter, scrambled eggs, potatoes, bacon, sausage and biscuit and a Bagel with cream cheese for Tom.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_7546.jpg

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_7545.jpg

and I picked up a Chocolate Croissant for myself. The Breakfast Platter was the usual fare and the Croissant was quite nice.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_7547.jpg

After a leisurely breakfast we got ready to tackle Fay. We went to Epcot and were amazed how few people were actually there. We did a few rides and walked around World Showcase. In Japan we were intrigued by their snack variety and picked up a box of Pucca, small fish filled with chocolate cream.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_7601.jpg

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_7605.jpg

Around noon we thought about some lunch, but since it was raining hard by then most of the restaurants were packed. We thought about going back to the resort, but then I remembered something else I wanted to try - Zebra Domes. So we got into the car and drove over to the Animal Kingdom Lodge and went straight over to Mara. We were surprised to see it basically empty.

I felt like trying their Fried Shrimp Platter. I LOVE shrimp and hadn't had any in a few days, so why not. They were very yummy and we decided to share our entrees again.
Tom had the African Stew. The photo does NOT do it any justice!!!! The real thing looked much better and it tasted really nice. We shared this one too! I wish we could have fit Mara in another time, as they had a few more things I would really love to try. I will have to make a note to myself not to forget to go back there for Free Dining 09!

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_7612.jpg

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_7609.jpg

For our dessert we both chose the Zebra Domes. Oh my god, heaven on earth. I love creamy, sweet things! Yum, yum, yum - gone!!!!

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_7614.jpg

After we had enjoyed our lunch we refreshed our memories of the AKL. We stayed there for Hurricane Charley a few years ago. What an experience that was!

By early afternoon we decided to go to DTD and do a little more shopping. Needless to say we could not leave DTD without another visit to Goofy's. We had some more of the "make your own" treats, which we enjoyed for many days to come.

We got a rice crispy treat, dipped in dark chocolate, chocolate chips and chopped pecans, drizzled with white chocolate. Very rich, very yummy!

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_7619.jpg

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_7635.jpg

Next we got a Marshmellow treat, dipped into dark chocolate, oreo crumbs and crushed peanut butter cups, drizzled with white chocolate. So yum, yum!!

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_7632.jpg

Treat no 3 were the pretzel rods. All three were dipped into dark chocolate (can you see a trend? can you guess my favorite kind of chocolate?), then one them was dipped into chocolate chips, one into oreo crumbs and one into butterfinger crumbs. All three were drizzled with white chocolate. Oh boy, these were yummy!!! I wish Goofy's weren't so far away and I could get some more right NOW!!

I am loving your reviews but I must say that your frog pics are giving me the heebie jeebies. I literally have chills running up and down my back just thinking about them being near you. And to think I actually considered staying at POR. I'm thinking that's a no-go now.

I am loving your reviews and pics thanks for sharing, that frog I would have had a heart attack, I am absolutely terrified of them, I so wish I could get over the fear x

I am so terrified of frogs that one stopped me dead in my tracks. Not odd you would think except for the fact that it was in the middle of the street and I was in my Jeep with all the windows rolled up. I actually ended up cautiously inching my way around it terrified that it was going to jump on my car.

It's nice to know I'm not the only person afraid of frogs. I've actually never met anyone else.

Welcome! I am glad you're here.

I know you didn't plan it this way, but thank you so much for posting your Flame Tree BBQ review before I left! :thumbsup2 I've been debating counter service in AK, and your meals look yummy! Can't wait to try it myself.

Now, I'm also very interested in Tokyo Dining, looks like some excellent Japanese cuisine. :thumbsup2

You are right Froggie needs to be our trip mascot! Thanks for the suggestion, LOL!
Hope you enjoy Flame Tree - we are SO looking forward to go there again next summer - we are already booked on the bounceback - MORE free food, LOL!

Thank you! Yes, we had a ball!! I can't wait to go back!

That sushi looks great:goodvibes

Tokyo Dining was nice, now if I could have only understood what the server girl was telling me, LOL!!

I can't wait for Raglan Road!! That tempura looked heavenly and light as a feather, I'm definitely going to have to give it a go!

That tempura WAS heavenly. And I hope you liked our review of Raglan Road. The food was wonderful - we just didn't like the noise level in the restaurant.

Thanks for the Tokyo Dining review. It looks really good, and I'm looking forward to trying it.

Hope you'll enjoy Tokyo dining - it was worth giving it a try - wonderful view of Spaceship Earth included!

I am loving your reviews and pics thanks for sharing, that frog I would have had a heart attack, I am absolutely terrified of them, I so wish I could get over the fear x

Sorry about Froggie scaring you - we kind of grew very attached to him. We would always look for him when we got back to the resort and needless to say, one of the 3 "residents" was ALWAYS home.

I've just read your report so far - it's great and I love your photos! :thumbsup2

Your report might help me to decide where I want to try next April. :goodvibes

Thank you for your kind words. I hope you'll have such a wonderful experience as we had - this trip was heavenly!

Ribs from Flame Tree...mmmmmmh popcorn:: I'm asking myself: I want to go ther now! ^^ I'm looking forward to your next post!

Don't remind me of the Flame Tree ribs - I would love some NOW! Next post up soon!

I love your little froggy 'mascot' at Oak Manor. How sweet.

Looking forward to your review of Raglan Road.

I'm really enjoying your reviews. Just curious is the food better at DLRP?
Looking forward to reading the rest of them.

I am glad you are enjoying the food review! Food at TS in DLRP is more European, but unfortunately they don't change their menus very often and there are only a handful of restaurants compared to WDW.
CS is very McDonald's and Pizza Hut like. Nothing special.

great reviews and photos - except that pale green tea pudding....

that one could have been improved upon with more food coloring!

You are right - the colour of the tea pudding wasn't very inviting, but I have to disagree about the food colouring - I'd rather have it pale and tasty than stuffed full of artificial colour.

Loving your reviews. The heavenly ham looks really good.

Both the heavenly ham and the Shepards Pie were really good!

On with the show ...........

Aug 19 continued, dinner at Boatwright's Dining Hall.

We went back to the resort after another shopping spree at DTD and needless to say our friend Froggie was enjoying the wet weather.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_7658.jpg

We settled in our room and nibbled a bit off of our treats from Goofy.
Fay had come to stay and we were relaxing in the room watching TV.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_7647.jpg

We were discussing cancelling our reservation at Boatwright's since it was raining so hard, but then decided to stick with the reservation and just try to get over there as dry as possible. So we put on our ponchos and were lucky enough to only experience light rain while walking to Boatwright's. When we reached the podium we were surprised to see so many people line up. Those without a reservation were told that there was at least a 60 - 90 minutes wait - ouch!!!
We were glad we had our reservation and once we were signed in we were seated within 10 minutes.
We had a nice table overlooking the podium and there were people trying to get a dinner table all the time we were there.
Our server was really nice (forgot her name) and she suggested some drinks with our meal.
Tom tried the Ultimate Long Island Iced Tea - lots of alcohol, but still very yummy,

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_7666.jpg

while I ordered the Frozen Strawberry Margarita. I am not really into alcoholic drinks but this one was really nice, even though you could taste the alcohol in it.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_7663.jpg

Right after our drinks arrived the server brought over some cornbread and butter. It was slightly warm and melt in your mouth - sooooooo good! The bread alone would have been worth walking over to Boatwright's in the rain.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_7662.jpg

We had had a look at the menu on the internet so I wanted to try the Grilled Filet Mignon - served with Crawfish Hollandaise and Three-Cheese Hash-Brown Potatoes. The Filet was cooked perfectly and the Hollandaise was just so good with a scent of crawfish and the potatoes - too yummy to talk about them.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_7667.jpg

Tom's choice was the Slow-roasted Prime Rib - with Three-Cheese Hash Brown Potatoes and Cabernet Sauce. Again - prime rib just cooked perfectly, so tender! Potatoes heavenly, but the Cabernet Sauce was out of this world.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_7672.jpg

By now our server had seen us taking pix of all of our food and came over asking if she should take a photo of the two of us. She was VERY surprised that I was going to use the photos in my tripreports/homepage and to post here on the DIS.

Since we were on the DDP she "insisted" on us having dessert. Not that it did need much to "talk us into it", LOL!
Tom went with the Chocolate Cake - with Fresh Cream and Raspberry Sauce which was very chocolatey and very rich, but SO yummy!!

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_7681.jpg

I was intrigued by the Bananas Foster Angel Food Cake - served with Vanilla Bean Ice Cream. The Ice Cream was nothing to write home about, I have had better before, BUT THE CAKE was so soft and melt in your mouth and so yummy together with the Banana Foster Sauce. I was stuffed even before I tasted it, but it was VERY hard to put the spoon down, LOL!

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_7675.jpg

Well, here is a photo of "the two of us" with our desserts - don't we look happy?

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_7674.jpg

We could not believe that we had been to POR so often and had had breakfast quite a few times at Boatwright's but never had been for dinner. What a hidden gem - we will definitely come back next summer!

When we finally returned to Oak Manor it looked like Froggie was looking out for us.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_7682.jpg

We were full and tired and fell onto our beds watching more of the Fay coverage.

I am loving your reviews but I must say that your frog pics are giving me the heebie jeebies. I literally have chills running up and down my back just thinking about them being near you. And to think I actually considered staying at POR. I'm thinking that's a no-go now.

I've actually never met anyone else.

still loving the reviews, and avoiding the frog pics :lmao:

Its good to meet you, I agree most people are amazed by my fear, it is really strange and it doesnt help me but it is also the one thing my husband is scared off. Two weeks ago I went to my local Post Office and opened my car door to discover a squashed frog !! I mean this thing was bigtime dead, I still had to crawl over and get out of the passenger door to avoid it and then climbed back in the same way. We once had one in our garden, my husband came in white as a sheet and went and got our neighbour to ask him to remove it, he is six foot two and a sturdy man, but his fear was so great the neighbour had to come and get it for him :lmao:

Okay, here's another update!

Aug 20 - Columbia Harbor House, Sleepy Hollow and Yak and Yeti

Another rainy morning that we started with a few leftover snacks and some tea in our room.
Off we went to the Magic Kingdom which was nice and empty and we were able to fit in a quite a few rides before we headed to Columbia Harbour House for lunch.
We were not really hungry so we decided to split a CS.
Our choice of the day was the Anchors Aweigh Sandwich - white tuna with lettuce and tomato on toasted multigrain bun. It comes with a bag of chips and even though we had this before it always hits the spot. Can't beat a well done tuna sandwich.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_7720.jpg

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_7722.jpg

For dessert we chose the Apple Crisp, which was nice and reminded us of a dessert we have at home. It would have been even nicer had it been warm.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_7721.jpg

A few rides later we decided it would be nice to try something new - the Cappuccino Float with vanilla soft serve ice cream. Tom's choice! Well, this was a bit of a disappointment. The coffee was weak and the soft serve didn't work well for us. Most of it ended in the bin.
But coming from a country that has first class "ice-coffee" strong iced espresso with vanilla ice cream, maybe we just chose the wrong thing.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_7726.jpg

I tried the Tinkerbell Twist Slush - combination of sour apple and watermelon. Well, to be honest I didn't like it at all. Again, bad choice on my part - I am not a big fan of sour apple and I hate watermelon, LOL. But the Tinkerbell name made me want it.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_7727.jpg

We went back to the resort a little while later to change into something dry, before we headed over to Animal Kingdom for Yak and Yeti and EMH.

To be continued ............
Next up Yak and Yeti

Oh my, that chocolate cake from Boatwrights looks HEAVENLY! It is calling my name through time, distance and the Internet.

You don't have to limit the frog pictures for our sake. I just try to scroll past them VERY quickly without actually looking at the frog. I appreciate your reassurances that they aren't necessarily everywhere but I'm not sure I can risk it. It would be a serious issue for me to have them outside of my room. As in needing to change resorts serious. I'd never sleep for fear they would get in the bedroom. Hey! I never said it was a rational fear!

Aug 20 - dinner at Yak and Yeti

We drove over to AK and were surprised again at how empty the place was. Fay had definitely washed out the parks. We picked up our wristband and headed for Asia for Yak and Yeti.
We were really looking forward to it because we had been to Yak and Yeti shortly after it had opened in early December and had liked the food so much.
When we entered the restaurant there were quite a few people waiting to be seated, but they did not seem to have a reservation as we were seated immediately after we had checked in. I had not even taken off my poncho by then!
We were taken to the small room overlooking the walkways and seated at a small table on the right when you enter the room. Our server was there fast to tell us what we could order on the DDP and that the Brownie Sundae counted as dessert for two to share. Well, that wasn't on our list to begin with, so no disappointment.
We started out with some drinks. Tom chose the Everest Avalanche, Bacardi Light Rum mixed with Banana, Strawberry and Mango Flavours. Very yummy!!

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_7735.jpg

I had the Tropical Daiquiri strawberry flavour. I liked it VERY much. I don't usually drink alcoholic drinks, but enjoy those drinks with the little paper umbrellas on vacation very much! And this one didn't even have an umbrella :lmao:

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_7734.jpg

For our starter we chose to share the Dim Sum Basket - Pork pot stickers, shrimp siu mai, cha su bao, and pork sie mai steamed on a banana leaf with some soy lime dipping sauce. First time we tried this and it was very good. Finger licking good!

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_7740.jpg

Tom then decided to try the Baby Back Ribs - slow-roasted ribs, hoisin BBQ sauce, chicken fried rice, sweet chili slaw. I tried a bit and he was right - there was nothing to complain about - these were very good ribs.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_7747.jpg

In December Tom had had the Tempura Shrimp and the taste I got then made ME want them this time. But there was also meat to be considered, so why not taking the best of both worlds and go for the Shaoxing Steak and Shrimp - skirt steak, tempura-battered shrimp, jasmine rice, stir-fried vegetables and chili plum dipping sauce. The steak was done just right, tender and juicy. The tempura shrimp were crisp and they tasted just heavenly dipped into the chili plum sauce. The rice was just that - rice and the stir fried veggies were a nice addition.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_7741.jpg

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_7742.jpg

For dessert we both opted for the Fried Wontons - Skewers of fresh pineapple and cream cheese wontons, vanilla ice cream, honey vanilla drizzle. What can be said about it - we cleaned our plates, VERY CLEAN!!!!!
Only thing that I did not like - vanilla ice cream - very little taste at all, but it comes in a seperate bowl so it was easy to just cut it out!

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_7749.jpg

After dinner we went straight over to Everest - there is nothing better than riding a coaster on a full stomach - YES our stomachs can handle it :rotfl2:
We spent the evening enjoying the EMH and short lines everywhere and actually had an early night, since AK closed at 9 - yes, even with EMH. We were back at the resort by 9.30.

To be continued .......
Next up Liberty Tree Tavern, Main Street Bakery and dinner at The Wave.

Okay, here's the next part of my review.

Aug 21 - Liberty Tree Tavern, Main Street Bakery, The Wave

We started our day with the "usual breakfast", cookies and tea, then left for the MK, where we had an 11.30 ADR at Liberty Tree Tavern.
We were there right on time and were seated within 5 minutes. We were paying out of pocket for this meal, so we decided to share a starter and not have dessert THERE.
For our starter we chose the Tavern Fried Cheese - with marinara sauce. Very nice fried cheese and spicy dipping sauce, but nothing special.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_7852.jpg

For our main courses we both chose sandwiches. Tom had the Tri-Corner Sandwich - roast beef and swiss cheese with Liberty Slaw, horseradish cream sauce and arugula served on herbed focaccia with tavern fries. He said it was very good and I think it was, since he ate it all.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_7856.jpg

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_7857.jpg

I had the Salmon Club Sandwich - grilled salmon on toasted multi-grain with lemon-basil mayonnaise served with mixed greens salad. I found it a bit on the dry side and just luke warm. I managed to eat half of the sandwich, the salad was very nice and therefor was finished!

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_7855.jpg

Since they took our favourite dessert, the chocolate liberation cake, off the menu and there was nothing to really tickle our fancy we decided to skip dessert and were out of the restaurant within one hour.

Lateron while walking towards the hub I remembered photos of the ice-cream cookie sandwich from the Main Street Bakery. We were thirsty and wanted to sit down for a while, so we went to the MSB and yes, the ice-cream cookie sandwich is just ONE snack credit. It actually has two large cookies, you can choose from chocolate chip, white chocolate chip and sugar cookie and it is filled with a giant helping of vanilla ice-cream. It was one of the best uses of a snack credit!
Plus it was VERY good and we were not able to finish it! The cookies were fresh and moist and tasted heavenly together with the ice-cream.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_7858.jpg

Since we didn't have anything to show the size of the cookie we placed the coke bottle next to it.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_7859.jpg

To be continued .........
Next up - dinner at The Wave - definitely one of the BEST meals we had!

This is the second time I've heard about this dessert only being available for two. Does anyone know what's so special about ice cream and chocolate (besides the obvious ;) ) that makes them do this? Also, there's conflicting reports about the Dim Sum Basket only being available for sharing. Can anyone confirm this? Ugh, so many restrictions...

I am so glad to have found others!!!!! I am TERRIFIED of frogs, have always been. I'm scrolling past the pics also.....:rotfl:

I mostly lurk here, but I had to pop in and say I'm another with a terrible fear of frogs. And toads.

Dh and I used to live in a place that had a swampy area behind it and we had lots of frogs around. It was horrible. Once our wash tub in the basement overflowed and dh opened the basement windows to dry it out, not thinking about the fact that one didn't have a screen for some reason. I went downstairs a few days later and found a frog staring up at me! I ran upstairs screaming and crying hysterically and jumped on top of the kitchen counter. Dh seriously thought somone had broken in and was trying to murder me or something lol. I made him catch and take it outside and spray tons of Raid, just in case that would kill any more that might have made their way in. I couldn't sleep for days and it was weeks and weeks before I could go to the basement again. Dh had to do laundry duty....

I haven't read many reports about Boatrights. The chocolate cake could be enough to make me think about cheating on my diet. But the bananas foster cake ~ Wow, no doubt just smelling it would send me into shock!

Yak & Yeti looks great. I am even considering adding this to our ADR list. The ribs - oh my! If I had a dollar for each time I helped my Opa fix ribs when I was a kid, well, I could go to Disney every year. I'm not a big drinker, but that Everest rum drink looks very yummy! Might as well have a drink now and again when there will always be a designated driver. :cool1:

And fried cheese at Liberty ~ Heaven on Earth! Nothing more I can say about that!

Wundabare Berichte!

Sorry about the long "break", but work seems to keep me from my favourite pastime! But here is an update!

Aug 21 - dinner at The Wave

To begin with, we had read a few negative reviews of the restaurant and were not sure what to expect, but we were so pleasantly surprised!

After having some rest time at the resort we drove over to the Contemporary, valet parked the car and headed in to the restaurant. There was quite a line to check in and they ran out of beepers. So we were shown to one of the blue "lounges" to be called. We have a VERY German last name, so I was pitying the person who had to call us.
Reading through the drinks menu was a bit hard, since it was a blue menu, which with all the blue backdrop was a bit odd. We waited for quite some time and were shown to our table about 15 minutes past our reservation time. The restaurant itself has a very relaxing atmosphere and made us feel very comfortable. We had a super nice server and she took really good care of us.
We ordered our drinks, diet cokes and had another look at the menu while our server brought out the drinks and some slightly warm, very nice bread and butter with seasalt.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_7970.jpg

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_7986.jpg

We then decided to again share a starter, the Lettuce Wraps - sauteed lamb and bay scallops with soy-rice wine vinegar sauce. Even though they were a bit messy to eat, they made up in how tasty they were. We have never had lettuce wraps before, but these were really good.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_7974.jpg

Next came the main courses. Tom had the Linguini - with Florida littleneck clams and rock shrimp with chunky tomato broth which he really loved. I tried a litte and they were really good. Very fresh tasting, pasta nicely cooked, very tasty broth

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_7978.jpg

I had decided to try the Grilled Pork Tenderloin - with pineapple rice, wilted greens and black been sauce. The server told me that the pork is done slightly pink and that was a-okay with me. The meat was very juicy and melt in your mouth tender. The rice had just a hint of pineapple, just so you remembered it was there but not interfering with the whole dish. The wilted greens were actually carrots and some greens and the sauce was very tasty. I have to admit I liked this whole dish a lot.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_7979.jpg

I was so looking forward to the dessert trios they offer and when the server brought out the dessert menu I discovered that they actually offer quite nice tea and coffee selections for dessert. The Lavender infused Early Grey caught my eye. I MISS my strong black tea, so this was just up my street. The tea comes in a silk sachet and I have to admit the tea smelled and tasted so good - it could have been my dessert.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_7982.jpg

Tom chose an espresso and he was very pleased with it too. Nice taste, good crema!

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_7984.jpg

Since we were on the DDP, and a free one as well, we could not pass up on the dessert. I went for the Creamy Indulgence - cheesecake with raspberry coulis, coconut panna cotta with passion fruit drizzle, chocolate passion fruit mousse with pecan-olive brittle. I wasn't too sure at first, but then LOVED all three mini desserts.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_7987.jpg

The cheesecake was light as a feather and had a very natural tasting coulis, slightly tart - yummy.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_7988.jpg

The coconut panna cotta had a faint coconut taste, again very light and not too sweet

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_7989.jpg

Being a chocolate lover I was curious about the chocolate passion fruit mousse with pecan-olive brittle. Can you say gorgeous? Heaven!!! Even the pecan olive brittle I wasn't too sure about was so good!

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_7990.jpg

Tom chose the Decadent Flavors - blueberry compote with yogurt gelato, lemon cornbread with vanilla panna cotta, chocolate mousse with salted caramel sauce. He liked his very much as well, but couldn't finish it, so I got to sample 2 more desserts.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_7991.jpg

I got a little taste of the blueberry compote with yogurt gelato, which was nice, but I am not a big fan of either blueberries or yoghurt ice-cream.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_7992.jpg

But I got half of the lemon cornbread with vanilla panna cotta. Not too lemony and the panna cotto just slightly sweet - very nice and complimenting each other.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_7993.jpg

Being a chocaholic the chocolate mousse with salted caramel sauce was my favourite! It was just plain yummy!

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_7995.jpg

Since it was raining (again) when we left we decided to drive back to the resort instead of going to the MK and watch the fireworks.
Guess who was waiting for us when we returned to Oak Manor?

Yeah, you guessed it - Froggie was enjoying the wet weather waiting for us to come back "home".

Dizneeat, I have been a lurker to your wonderful thread, spending several hours reading your posts, and I just wanted to post a big THANK YOU!! from Chicago.

Thank you for taking the time to post these "Disneylicious" pictures of your meals, and we appreciate the time you're taking to post your reviews.

Sometimes people laugh when I take my camera out of my purse to snap pictures of courses in my meals, but why not? Yours is a well-written, visual review that covers many of the restaurants and cafes that we enjoy at WDW (i.e., we love Mama Melrose's too!).

Since you asked about the apple crisp - it reminded me of a pastry we have here which is made with shortcrust pastry, filled with cinnamon spiced apples and raisins. We call it "Apfelschlangerl".
Traditional Applestrudel is made with filo pastry here in Austria. Both are very nice, but the apple crisp was very similar to the "Schlangerl"!

those tempura shrimps look wonderful!

They WERE yummy!

WOW! I assumed that cookie was "large" b/c of the size of that plate but when you see it next to a coke bottle...woweeee! That will be a MUST GET on my trip! Ummm good!

What a good decision to get the ice-cream cookie sandwich! We tried it twice and could NOT finish it - it is huge and so good.

Gotta love the icecream sandwiches!!!!!

Looking forward to your review of "The Wave", as we are considering going there next year!

Pooh's-Honey-Pot;27781961]We have been dithering over whether to go to The Wave next year, and you have just sorted the dilema thanks!!! Can't wait now!!!

Yeah for the icecream sandwich! AND I am glad I convinced you to give the Wave a try. We are booked on the bounceback Free Dining for 09 and will definitely dine there again!

Loving your report!!

Thank you!!

I don't think it's about the ice cream and chocolate, LOL, it's about the size of the dessert. This is a HUGE dessert!! I don't think they won't mind if everyone in your party orders one if you pay out of pocket.;)
Don't know about the Dim Sum Basket though - we were sharing it anyway and paying out of pocket, so I have no idea if it is only for sharing.

I just found this thread and read the whole thing! I love the reviews and pics so far....and I'm drooling over that cheesecake from Mama Melrose. It is one of my favorite desserts in all of WDW!

Welcome and thank you for reading! I am all with you on the Mama Melrose cheesecake!

Maybe we need to form a support group, there's quite a few of us!

Froggie was a VERY friendly frog and had quite a large and friendly family too! ;)

DANKE!!!
Boatwright's Banana Foster cake is worth going back there next year! :goodvibes and the drink from Yak and Yeti was VERY nice. I don't drink alcoholic drinks all year round, but I LOVE my longdrinks on vacation :cool1:

OK froggie creeps me out...but I'm very much looking forward to Restaurant Marrakesh! Can't wait!

The wave looks good, specially that pasta! Yummmmmmmo!

Marrakesh coming up very soon!

LOVE your Wave review! We are doing lunch there and I can't wait because I keep seeing such wonderful reviews. Your dessert selections look fabulous!

Thank you!
The desserts were really nice. We liked the selections they offered, but if there is something you want from one of their other selections you can mix and match at your heart's delight!

I think Froggie has found a family!

I am very curious about The Wave and I really enjoyed your review. I enjoy different tastes and they look quite healthy ~ desserts have no calories at WDW!

I can't wait to read more.

So true - no calories in desserts and mickey bars! :lmao: WDW is the best of all worlds! ;)

Thanks for the Wave review, everything looked really good. :goodvibes

It was one of the best meals we had - so yummy!!

Great review of the wave.

Thank you!

I am getting really intrigued by the Wave. We are wanting to try new things next trip. And getting tired of buffets.
Thanks for reporting! :thumbsup2

You won't be disappointed of the food or ambience of The Wave. I was really sorry they closed the Concourse Steakhouse, but I am SO happy that new restaurant offers such amazing food.

Loving your reviews!!!!!

I am happy you enjoy them!

You make me proud to be a DIS member! We can't wait to read the rest.

I am really over the moon with your kind words!! I have been a lurker here on the Dis myself, but have no gathered up "courage" to post. :goodvibes We had such amazing food during our trip that I just had to share!
Actually I am really used to taking photos of food now, so whenever we go out I snap some photos of our food - has made for some fun conversations ;)
I hope you'll enjoy the rest of my trip report - if you are interested in any reports and photos from Disneyland Paris, feel free to visit my homepage! The link is in my signature.

Okay, now on to the next reviews!

Aug 22 - ABC commissary, more treats from Goofy's Candy Co

We wanted to try TSM that day, but got their a little to late and FP was for early afternoon. Too late for us, so we went and tried to fit in a few other rides before we were to spend another CS credit.

Even though I had read some really bad reviews of the ABC Commissary we gave it a go. I wasn't very adventurous so I chose the Fried Fish - battered fried fish served with fries. The fried fish was crisp and the meak flakey. I loved it that they had malt vinegar for the fish. The fries were just regular fries. I was pleasantly surprised :thumbsup2

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_8008.jpg

Tom had the Cheeseburger - with fries. Again, regular fare, nothing special, but not bad either. If you are looking for the cheese - it was stuck to the top of the bun :lmao:

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_8010.jpg

Tom had the no sugar added Strawberry Parfait, which was not too sweet and surprisingly good! It was light and he enjoyed it a lot!

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_8016.jpg

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_8015.jpg

As you might have already noticed I am the chocaholic in the family, so I had to try the Chocolate Mousse. It looked a lot like a (not so nice) dessert you can buy in the stores here in Austria, but boy was I wrong. It tasted like very rich dark chocolate and was indeed VERY nice. I enjoyed it VERY much and there was nothing left of it in the end!

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_8011.jpg

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_8013.jpg

By early afternoon we left DHS and went to DTD to pick up more treats from Goofy's Candy Co. This time we got some more pretzel rods, these were just SO good!!!

All three were dipped in dark chocolate, then one had dark chocolate chips, one had chopped pecans and the third one crushed M&Ms! We had them drizzled with milk chocolate.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_8046.jpg

The second batch were dipped in dark chocolate as well, then dipped in crushed butterfinger, oreo crumbs and crushed peanutbutter cups. We had them drizzled in white chocolate for a change. ;)

Aug 22 - dinner at Restaurant Marrakesh

Since we had 18 days of free dining we thought it might be a good idea to try Restaurant Marrakesh. It turned out to not be one of our favourites. We arrived about 15 minutes early, the podium was crowded and no one seemed to care at all. They did not have beepers, but after some asking back and forth I understood we were to take a seat. We did and waited. It seemed they were just waiting for our assigned time to come around to seat us. Off we went and were seated at a rather wobbly table which was squeezed in between two rows of tables for four. While we were waiting for our server I noticed that the table-cloth, well actually table-paper was slightly wet in one spot. I tried to dry it with a napkin, but then discovered that the AC was dripping. We stopped a server and asked for another table and were shown to the next table in the row of tables. Again very wobbly!

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_8058.jpg

Our server arrived to take drink orders, and filled the glasses on the table with water - very nasty water. One sip and thanks, but no thanks. It tasted of clorine and some kind of detergent. Yuck!
When our diet cokes arrived I hoped it wasn't the ice and was glad to taste that it indeed was just the water that tasted yuck!
Next our server came with half a loaf of bread and some butter. Bread was nice and fresh and the butter was just that - butter.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_8061.jpg

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_8062.jpg

For his main course Tom chose a fish dish that came with some vegetables in a broth. The taste was very nice, but the presentation was blah! Everything just thrown onto a plate.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_8066.jpg

As you can see by now, this was not a very outstanding experience. But that had to do with other things as well. First of all the wobbly table, than there was the noise. The entertainment had started and we did not mind that, but on top of it the chatting of the diners seemed to echo in the room. It was very noisy. Plus, they had seated a family of four at the table next to us. Mommy, Daddy and two little kids. The smaller one of the two, which was about 18 months was handed a crayon and after "colouring" the printout he started colouring the table cloth/paper. Nothing wrong here. The wrong to me came when they were served pasta for the kids, which was then presented to the 18 month old on the table cloth which he had previously coloured with the crayon!!! The mother would take a spoonful of the pasta and tomato sauce and spoon it ON the table cloth. The little boy ate a few bits, then started hitting the pasta with his bottle, splashing the sauce everywhere and most of the pasta went to the floor. Not the prettiest sight in a restaurant. The parents just looked on and laughed about it!
Well, apart from the ambience there was my dinner. I had ordered the Couscous - the national Moroccan dish - rolled semolina steamed and served with seasonal vegetables and Lamb. Again - it looked like they had just thrown it on the plate. Couscous tasting quite nice, like made with a good broth, cooked vegetables and cooked meat. Not a bad meal, but it just did not appeal to us as much as the ones we had had before. Generous portions though!

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_8068.jpg

We did try dessert. I had chosen the Moroccan Symphony - Assorted pastries which were really nice, crisp pastry with sweet and moist filling. Very good.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_8073.jpg

Tom chose the Bastilla - crispy leaves of pastry topped with vanilla cream and sprinkled with toasted almonds. He enjoyed this very much. It was not too overly sweet and the filo pastry had a nice crunch to it!

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_8077.jpg

Would we go there again? I don't think so, soso food and very noisy.
Would I try other Marroccan food? Yes definitely, next time we want to check out their counter service.
Would I order their desserts again! YES!!!!!! They were really good!!!

Guess who greeted us coming back home - yeah you got it right! Froggie!!!

Aug 23 - Wolfgang Puck's Express (AGAIN)

After we got up late we decided to head to DTD for some shopping and an early lunch at WPE.
We were really looking forward to our visits to Wolfgang Puck's and here is what we had.
Tom had the Rotisserie BBQ Beef - slices of house roasted Niman Ranch rotisserie beef, sautéed mushrooms, carmelized onions and Wolfgang's signature BBQ sauce, topped with mozzarella, rolled in warm, all natural garlic focaccia bread. Served with a side of sour cream slaw. I had a bite and this was just SO good! Tender beef and the warm focaccia - heaven! And the sour cream slaw was the best we had during the 4 weeks we stayed this time!

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_8083.jpg

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_8084.jpg

I love the pizzas at WPE, so I had another one - the Four Cheese Pesto - creamy goat cheese, mozzarella, fontina and Parmesan with Roma tomatoes, fresh basil, garlic-basil pesto sauce and sun dried tomatoes. The tomatoes were really fresh and fragrent and the cheeses worked so well with the pesto. I could have this every day, LOL!

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_8081.jpg

There are just a few desserts to choose from, so guess what I had for dessert - yeah you got it Creme Bruleé!

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_8085.jpg

Tom went for his favourite too - he had another helping of the frozen vanilla yoghurt with strawberries!

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_8087.jpg

We spent some time shopping offsite before dinner.

Thank you! I love to get feedback :goodvibes!

Is it really made with filo?! That's how my Mom made it but I always assumed that that was an Americanized version or something! There is NOTHING better than that crisp, buttery, sugary filo that gets caramelized while it's baking... YUM.

I love reading a food review from an Austrian - as I sit munching on the Männer Zitronenschnitten I just brought back from there. One reason I travel to Germany/Austria every year is the fabulous food (esp. the cheeses, breads and pastries - hello Demels!) so it's interesting to hear how enthused you are about the food at WDW. Generally I find the quality of dishes at WDW uneven - ranging from sublime to mediocre but it sounds like you had mainly great experiences.
You have wonderful pictures - I love the frogs and think they had a wonderful dose of reality to a fantasy world - and I look forward to hearing more.

That story reminded me of when we took our 18mth old to a restaurant near us, it was a busy night and for the first time ever, my DD decided to act up and threw a handful of spagetti onto the next table. Thankfully, it was empty but all set up with a clean white table cloth, dishes, etc. When we told the waiter what happened I thought he was going to cry because he was already stressed out from it being so busy. Obviously we left a nice tip!!!

Great trip report. I love all the pictures.:thumbsup2

Aug 23 - Tutto Italia, Margarita Stand and another snack from the Riverside Mill

This day's dinner was at Tutto Italia. We thought we'd give it a try after being very disappoined with the food and service at Alfredo's the year before. When we arrived it was raining cats and dogs (remember we ran into Hurricane Fay) and we were right on time. I was still wearing my Disneyland Paris Poncho when I checked in and we were seated immediatly. Wow, even though there were people waiting - LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it that way. :thumbsup2
Our server came about a minute after we were seated. He was young, very nice and looked after us more than well. We told him we were on the DDP and that we were using the DDE for any extras.
We were handed the menus and asked what we wanted to drink, so we ordered our diet cokes.
When he came back with the cokes he asked for our main courses and returned with the Verdure (pickled veggies) which were like I remember them from previous trips to Italy. Not too soft and slightly tart - yummy!

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_8100.jpg

followed by the Olive "Giardiniera" (olive oil for dipping), again very strong olive oil, but that's the way I like it at home too

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_8097.jpg

and the Ricotto con Basilico (ricotta cheese mixed with basil), which had a wonderful fresh taste from the basil

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_8098.jpg

and went so well with the Pane De Casa, the breadbasket we received

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_8103.jpg

All of the above tasted so nice, we finished the whole helping off in no time.

Next came the main courses. Tom had chosen the Tagliolini con Granchio, Pomodorini Alle Erbe - tagliolini pasta topped with crabmeat, sweet tomato and garlic and they were to die for. Not too garlicy, but well spiced and perfectly cooked pasta.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_8108.jpg

I had the Penne Caprese with crushed tomatoes, mozzarella cheese and basil. Again I was surprised. It tasted like a sea of ripe fragrent tomatoes and was just pure bliss with the mozzarella slightly melting into the dish. I love my pasta al dente and that's what it was - al dente, just perfect. It was so good, I had to search for a recipe on the internet and we recreated it at home.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_8104.jpg

Both portions were generous and with the breadbasket and goodies we had had before we both were quite stuffed after the main course. But since it was raining hard we decided to have coffee and dessert.

Tom had an espresso and it came with a biscotti. Nice! The coffee had perfect crema and he said it was very good.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_8112.jpg

I had a cappuccino and it was very good as well - lots of milk foam on top and a very nice taste, not too bitter. Plus I got TWO biscotti with my coffee, LOL!

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_8109.jpg

For my dessert I had chosen the Mocha Tiramisu - mascarpone cheese, espresso coffee, savoiardi biscuits and chocolate. I was SO surprised as this was such a well made dessert, much better than the one I had had the year before.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_8120.jpg

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_8121.jpg

Now Tom's dessert was the biggest surprise - in the true sense of the words. He had chosen their signature dessert the Bugie/Chiacchere - Signature anise and Sambuca-flavored crisp pastry with chocolate or apricot sauces. He is not a big dessert eater and I could not believe the size of the portion when the server brought it to our table.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_8117.jpg

It must have been very good, since he nearly finished it ALL!!

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_8115.jpg

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_8116.jpg

We did mention to the waiter that this experience was much better than last year's and he seemed to be happy to hear that.

By then it had stopped raining, so we decided to walk towards Mexico and check out the countries. In Mexico we bought a Fiesta Margarita. We had had one last year and liked it. Well this one was nothing like it! It was lacking flavour and there were only 3 different flavours left. Maybe it was an end of the day thing, but we did not like it at all. We ended up throwing more than half of it away.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_8147.jpg

When we returned home to the resort we stopped at the Riverside Mill for another Magic Cookie Bar. Yip, there is a corner missing - I nibbled it off before taking the photo! I had a little bit of it in the evening and saved the rest for breakfast the next morning.

I love reading a food review from an Austrian - as I sit munching on the Männer Zitronenschnitten I just brought back from there. You have wonderful pictures - I love the frogs and think they had a wonderful dose of reality to a fantasy world - and I look forward to hearing more.

Mmmh, Manner Schnitten! :goodvibes. It's nice to hear that you enjoy your travels to Austria/Germany. And if you have been to Demel, you have been to one of the best in Austria. Did you try Zauner in Bad Ischl as well?
As for the food in WDW - maybe we have such good experiences because we always keep in mind that most of these restaurants are in theme parks. We never expect it to be something else. So we mostly are pleasantly surprised, LOL! I expect something different from signature dining though! We LOVE the California Grill and even have become friends with one of the servers there and always ask to be seated at one of his tables. So our service is always spot on and the food has always been amazing.
We did have our fair share of disappointing experiences as well. Restaurant Marrakesh comes to mind. I didn't really care for the atmoshpere and food too much, but the worst experience we had this year was at Narcoossee's. Just wait for that review. We won't return there in a long time.

And Froggie was just the best. There were actually 3 frogs there and one of them always seemed to wait for us coming back to the room :lmao:

I've been reading a lot about these lately---they look sooooo good and everyone has said they are incredible....might be my choice in November!

I don't want to sound biased because Wolfgang Puck is Austrian, but ALL his food was to die for. Try the Creme Bruleé, it was the best I had this vacation

still loving your reviews, but that last frog piccie has made me freakkkkkkyyyyyyyyyyy out !!!!!!!!!!!

I am glad to hear that you like the reviews. Sorry about Froggie ;)

This thread is very impressive! I love the pics and reviews oh, and the froggy too!:goodvibes

Thank you for your kind words. You would have loved Froggie, he was hilarious!

Thanks for posting these. It's a lot of work, but so fun to read!

I am glad you enjoy reading them! :flower3:

Thank God, I'm starting to freak out.....:scared:

;)

That frog is just hilarious! My youngest daughter would want to take him home with us!

What a fun idea!!!;)

That story reminded me of when we took our 18mth old to a restaurant near us, it was a busy night and for the first time ever, my DD decided to act up and threw a handful of spagetti onto the next table. Thankfully, it was empty but all set up with a clean white table cloth, dishes, etc. When we told the waiter what happened I thought he was going to cry because he was already stressed out from it being so busy. Obviously we left a nice tip!!!

Great trip report. I love all the pictures.:thumbsup2

I don't mind kiddies! They are supposed to throw things at that age, aren't they? The thing was that the parents didn't seem to mind that the sauce was mixed with the crayon scribbling on the table cloth and they found it very amusing that the little one splashed everything and didn't even apologize to the server.
But thanks for the positive response to my food review. My trip report is on my home-page and I have actually started it and uploaded the first three days, so feel free to stop by there to. The link is in my signature!!

You are making me so hungery right now. Specially after the pasta dishes. Oh and we must not forget the MARGARITA. Evenif you didn't care for the fiesta one I love the regular ones. It's how I always start off our night in EPCOT. And being 7 months pregnant I could kill for one right now.

Thank you for your wonderful pix and reviews. I have decided on adding a couple of place because of them. If only time would move faster...

Those pasta dishes were SO good - I want one right now, LOL! And we loved the Margarita the year before, so that's why we got this one. Maybe it was just because it was close to park closing and they were already ready to pack up, LOL!

Good luck with your new little one! :flower3:

Aug 24 - Sunshine Seasons and Ohana

We got up really early to be at DHS for rope drop and a join the run to Toy Story Mania. :rotfl2: I snacked on my Magic Cookie Bar while Tom had some oreo cookies and some Lady Grey Tea.
We did make it to DHS for rope drop - a first for us :lmao: since we rarely get up that early. Tom joined the "runners" for the FP machines at TSM while I just walked over. He had already gotten the FP when I arrived and we decided to get in line since the wait was only 10 minutes. Halfway through the line the ride broke down and that was the end to that.
We went on a few other rides waiting for our FP time. While waiting for the time to come around I had one of these beauties!

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_8224.jpg

A Mickey Ice Cream sandwich - yum!

After riding TSM we drove over to Epcot.
Lunch was at Sunshine Seasons. Tom had the Rotisserie Pork Chop with carrots and mashed potatoes. He was surprised it was moist and well seasoned since this was a counter service, but he really liked it.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_8230.jpg

I had the Grilled Salmon with Olive Pesto sauce, rice and salad. The salmon was a bit dry, but it was a very good meal, considering that it was CS. Only downside - with the AC being on rather high and the plastic plates the food turned cold very fast. And I am a sloooooooow eater!

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_8227.jpg

For dessert Tom had chosen the Bavarian Charlotte - which was nice, but rather sweet.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_8233.jpg

I had seen a photo of the strawberry cake and HAD TO have it! It was pure heaven, whipped cream, cake and strawberries. What could be better. I enjoyed this very much.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_8234.jpg

After we had had lunch we went over to "Living with the land" to explore how some of my salad had been produced. :goodvibes
It actually is planted in a Mickey shape - maybe that makes it taste better! :lmao:

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_8255.jpg

We then went on some more rides and walked over to world showcase. When we got back to the Land Pavillion before our Soarin FP was starting we picked up some drinks and a snack at Sunshine Seasons again.

Our drinks were the Dasani Lemon water which was gross. It tasted somewhat artificial. Not a good choice. Tom had a Michelob Ultra which he enjoyed.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_8261.jpg

Plus we shared a California Roll. Considering it came out of a plastic bowl it was quite nice. Not to be compared with the one we had at California Grill, but still nice.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_8265.jpg

After that snack it was time for us to leave and head over to POR to do some packing and to get ready for our dinner at Ohana.

To be continued .........
Next up - Ohana for dinner

I am glad you like the reviews and that they helped you decide. I read a lot of food reviews too before going on this trip and thanks to it we have now got a few new favourites.

You asked about the DDE - which is the Disney Dining Experience Card (now Tables in Wonderland Card) which gives you a 20% discount on all food and drink in participating restaurants. It is available to Florida residents (which we are not) and to Annual Passholders (which we are :goodvibes ). It costs 65$, but if you, like us, like some drinks with "paper umbrellas" and appetizers it soon has paid for itself.

We did eat at Coral Reef later in the trip, so the review is coming up soon.

Glad I didn't freak you out with Froggie! ;)

Aug 24 - dinner at Ohana

We relaxed at POR for a while and I started packing, since we were moving from POR to Universal's Royal Pacific for four days before the last part of our Disney trip and our stay at Pop Century. We had stayed at POR for 12 nights so there was a lot of stuff.

About half an hour before our reservation we left for the Polynesian and arrived 15 minutes prior to our expected check in time. We were given a beeper and told that they were running about 20 minutes late. So, we wondered over to the gift shop and later sat down in the lounge. We waited for about 40 minutes until we were seated. Our table was right in the middle of the main dining room - in the middle of the action!
Our server was very friendly and helpful and explained the drinks menu and what was included in the dining plan and what was not. We both ordered the backscratcher and diet cokes.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_8281.jpg

Next out was the bread, slightly warm and pure bliss!

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_8278.jpg

Followed by the Mixed greens with a honey-lime dressing - I love that salad!

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_8279.jpg

We had not even started on the salad when our server brought out the sauces, Peanut Sauce, Chimichurri Sauce and Sweet and Sour Sauce and explained what each sauce went best with.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_8280.jpg

She also brought the Pork Dumplings in Sweet n Sour Sauce and the Honey-coriander chicken wings together with the sauces. The portions were enormous for the two of us.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_8285.jpg

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_8287.jpg

A little while and a few dumplings and chicken wings later she brought out the next few dishes. First came the vegetables. Peas and broccholi. Nicely cooked, not to soft. One dish we almost managed to finish.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_8288.jpg

And she brought out the noodles as well. We had heard a lot about the noodles and I wasn't sure about them, but we did like them. They got cold rather fast.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_8289.jpg

Most surprised we were about the meats! Last time we were at Ohana the meats were dry and overcooked. This time the beef came out medium well, the pork was seasoned well and nice and moist and the turkey was nice too. We didn't miss the sausage! ;)

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_8290.jpg

Then she came over with the grilled shrimp! Oh my - these were out of this world! They were SOOOOOOOOOO good! Thank god they are back on the menu!

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_8293.jpg

We ate quite a lot of it all and were stuffed even before dessert came out. If you have ever been to Ohana you know that their breadpudding is just to die for. She brought out the breadpudding with the vanilla ice cream melting into it and we poured the banana foster sauce and were in dessert heaven just as the coconut race started! Watching it was enough exercise!

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_8301.jpg

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_8299.jpg

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_8297.jpg

When we were finally ready to leave it felt like we were rolling out, we were so stuffed. That restaurant sure is good value for money.

We then went down to the boatdock to take the boat over to the MK. It was delayed because of the Water Pageant, but at least we had a front row seat at the dock watching it.
Finally the boat arrived and we were on our way over to the MK. We had a reservation for the preferred fireworks viewing and got there about half an hour early. We staked out a spot to watch the fireworks and it was really impressive to watch.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_8388.jpg

After the fireworks we stayed for EMH until 1am.

To be continued .........
Next up - another visit to Wolfgang Puck's Express, picking up snacks with our remaining snack credits at Goofy's Candy Co and dinner at the Captain's Grill.

Preferred Fireworks viewing is possible at Epcot and the MK! It is a roped off area where only a few people can watch the fireworks. In Epcot it is the boat landing area near Marocco and at the MK it is near the Plaza Restaurant, where the table are down by the water.
I don't know how you can get it. For us it was part of the Free Dining Package we booked from Disney.co.uk. But it was really special not to have to "fight" for a spot to watch the fireworks. :goodvibes

Great review of Ohanas. I've heard some negative comments about the food lately, so it's good to hear that your situation was different.

I was worried about it too. We had been there before and liked it and with all the negative reviews we were not quite sure we should do it. But the breadpudding pulled me in :lmao:
We were so happy we went despite the other reviews. We really enjoyed it a lot.

Aug 25 - Wolfgang Puck's Express (yet again), Goofy's Candy Co for more snacks and dinner at Captain's Grill

We had a late start, since we had come back to the resort rather late the day before. So we tried to be at DTD at 11 for a very early lunch at Wolfgang's.
Tom tried the Chicken Tortilla Melt - spicy all natural chicken, onions, sautéed red and yellow peppers and oven-roasted tomatoes, tossed with tortilla sauce, topped with mozzarella, wrapped in warm, all natural garlic focaccia bread. Served with a side of sour cream slaw and tortilla chips. Boy, it was very yummy. I nearly regretted not to have chosen it.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_8409.jpg

I thought I might give the pasta a try as well, so I went for the Rigatoni with Chicken Bolognese - all natural chicken bolognese topped with Grana Padano Parmesan. It came with some Foccaccia bread and a Caesar salad on the side.
After having tried Tom's Tortilla Melt I was hoping I had made the right decision and even though Tom's was very yummy, this dish was equally yummy. The pasta was cooked perfectly al dente and the sauce was very nicely seasoned. The foccaccia bread was slightly warm and the Caesar salad really fresh and not too much dressing.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_8411.jpg

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_8407.jpg

We made "boring" choices for dessert, but these are just the best ever. The Creme Bruleé and the frozen yoghurt with strawberries. But we were really adventurous on the frozen yoghurt - this one was the one that mixes chocolate with vanilla :rotfl2:

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_8412.jpg

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_8415.jpg

After lunch we went shopping at DTD and finally ended up at Goofy's Candy Co to spend a few more of our snacks. These were the hardest to spend. Since there was NO way we could out so many more snacks we decided to pick up something to take home. So we asked about the really big lollies, but were told NO at every shop we wanted. Well, to cut this long story short, we were allowed to use our DDP snack credits on the large lollies at Goofy's. Yeah!!! We picked up 4 of them and had some more "create your own treats" - I needed something to keep me going at Universal. :lmao:

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_8455-1.jpg

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_8456.jpg

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_8458.jpg

Our make your own treats were another helping of the Marshmellows on a straw.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_8460.jpg

and some more pretzel rods.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_8463.jpg

We then headed back to POR and wanted to put our things back in the room but the maid was just making it up when we arrived. So we went to the riverside mill and had a diet coke while we waited.

To be continued ..........
Next up - dinner at the Captain's Grill.

I love frogs. Every few years, when we lived in LA, tree frogs would invade the house for a couple of weeks. Our dog had the greatest time. Although he tried he never caught one. At night when you would go to the bathroom you had to make sure and turn on the light or you might end up with a cold surprise. :lmao: But now for my question, the sushi at Sunshine Seasons, was that a snack credit?

Man I LOVE your reviews!!! I cant' wait to try Wolfgang Pucks next year, I have heard so many good things about it!!!

Thank you!!! :flower3: You can't go wrong with Wolfgang Puck's! I envy you, because you'll get there LOOOOOOOONG before me!

What is the "backscratcher"...very interesting and I may have to order one for my goofy cousin...is this actually a drink??? :rotfl:

Hmm, let me think! The Backscratcher, is it a drink? It is liquid, it contains alcohol, it has an orange slice and a tiny umbrella - well, that qualifies it as a drink for me!

Cheers!

:goodvibes fellow frog lover!

I don't think the sushi is a snack credit. We paid out of pocket for it and I think it was more than 4$!

THIS would scar me for life. :scared1: :scared:

 Beware! More Froggie pictures coming up soon!

Loving your Review. The pics are great and I too love the froggy....LOL

Thank you! I am glad Froggie found a lot of admirers :lmao:

Aug 25 - dinner at the Captain's Grill

We finally made it back to the room and relaxed for a while. Then we packed the rest of our stuff, so we were all set to move to Universal Orlando the next day.
We drove over to the Yacht Club, were a little early and explored the shop before we went over to the Captain's Grill. We signed in and were seated immediately. We had a nice table overlooking the walkway, where people were passing by.
Our server was Francesco. He was slow and rather unfriendly, not very Disney like.
Like everywhere else we told him we were on the DDP and wanted to use our DDE (now TIW) on the extras. His reaction - you cannot mix the two. Well, we could everywhere else, so please go ask a manager. He comes back and tells us that we were "allowed" to use it!

He then hands us the menus and asks what we want to eat - hmmm, I would like to have a look at the menu first. We order drinks and he leaves. They don't have that many things on the menu, but we were not even through with reading when he returned, put some nice, cheesy rolls and butter on the table and demanding he needs to know what we are going to have. Sorry Francesco, we haven't made our minds up yet! He then disappears and is back in about a minute. He starts to annoy me now! Could we have another minute? Off he goes.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_8466.jpg

When he finally returned we were ready to order. We had decided on a starter, the Spinach Cheese Dip - Grilled flatbread, chopped onions, tomatoes and bacon. Great choice - crispy flatbread and gooey, cheesy dip! Disneyliscious!

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_8468.jpg

Tom's main course was the Grilled 10-ounce NY Strip - with broccolini and pomegranate jus. I got to try the meat and it was very tender and well seasoned. Tom liked it very much.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_8476.jpg

My main course was the Pan Seared Catch of the day, which was salmon - with colcannon potatoes, Virginia ham, and lemon-butter sauce. This was a very nice dish. There was nothing left on the plate in the end.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_8472.jpg

Here comes Francesco to take away the plates as soon as we put down the cutlery. He asked if we wanted dessert and when we told him yes he then mumbled something in his broken English. I mention to him that we are from Europe and English is not our first language and that we didn't get it, could we please have a menu. He just stared and started repeating the dessert offerings. Could we see a menu please? He then leaves, telling me that there is nothing else on the menu he hasn't told us about already.
By that time he really had me. The food was really good, our server was just not in a Disney mood.
Well, we ordered our coffees, as usual I had a cappuccino, which had lots of milky foam and was really nice.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_8481.jpg

Tom had an espresso, which was not equally nice. As you can see from the photo there was no crema left at all. It must have been sitting there for quite some time until it was brought to our table.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_8482.jpg

Our dessert choices were the New England Blueberry Tart with Yoghurt gelato for Tom. He was very happy with his choice as it was not too sweet and light.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_8486.jpg

Being a chocolate lover I had chosen the Chocolate Mousse Cake with Raspberry Sauce. It was rather on the sweet and heavy side. Even though it was quite nice, I could not finish it.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_8478.jpg

In the meantime it had started raining, well, not raining but pouring! Raining stairrods! So we went back to the gift shop to do some more browsing. While in there we overheard a Mother and two daughters discussing what souvenirs they wanted and were allowed to buy. You could see the girls wanted the bigger toys, but did not argue with their mom and went for the smaller ones. We were so surprised there was no crying or argueing, we decided to give the girls a little extra treat. We asked the mother if we were allowed to give the girls two pins from Disneyland Paris. Mom agreed, but was really surprised. The girls loved their new pins. We talked about it being the year of the million dreams and how we loved spreading the magic and seeing those three happy, smiling faces. All the time there were 4 CMs standing by, watching :)
When we left the shop one of the CMs followed us and told us to pick a pin of his lanyard for being so kind to those girls. Spreading the magic is a very catchy thing! ;)

By then the rain had gotten lighter and we went out to the parking lot to drive to Disney Hollywood Studios for EMH. We stayed for some time and left around midnight.

Now, guess who was waiting for us when we got home? Froggie and his family!! Actually 4 froggies were there.

Beware - if you are scared of froggies - scroll FAST NOW!!!!!!!!!!!

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_8490.jpg

Froggie had brought his wife?? brother?? other family to sit behind the Oak Manor board.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_8491.jpg

Another one was on top of the first pillar next to our room.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_8492.jpg

And another one was on the second pillar which was a bit further away. It looked like they came by to say goodbye, since it was our last night there.

To be continued .........
Next up - another early lunch at Wolfgang Puck's, a last snack at the Riverside Mill and dinner and fireworks at the California Grill.

Just started reading this thread today...thanks so much for spending the time on this and all the great reviews and Austria, what a beautiful country, my wife and I have to make another visit someday.

Looking forward to your California Grill review - we'll be dining there on Oct 18th - always one of our favorite Disney places.

Bummer of a waiter. Sheesh.

So sweet of you to reward the nicely behaved little girls. That will help them stay so nice! LOL

Glad the food was good, even if the waiter wasn't. :sad2:

You know the Podcast crew had dinner there around the same time you did and they had an awful experience with the server and the manager... they actually LEFT!!!

I think that that restaurant needs some help in the service dept. Glad the food was good though... :)

Sounds like we had the same waiter at Captains Grill! Except when we had him he was soooo slow and kept forgetting things. We would ask where is this or that and everytime he would answer " Oh its the kitchens fault" or " Oh its so and sos fault". Never his. Very annoying to say the least.

Thats great about the girls and the "Dream" you bestowed upon them. See kids, behave. You never know whos watching and what good manners will get you ;) .

I am so enjoying your report. Can't wait for your Universal report.

:thumbsup2

Their cakes are to die for - don't forget to try the "Zaunerstollen" it is their signature sweet treat.
If you ever come here to Linz - try the Linzertorte.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/linzertortemittel.jpg

Too funny. I was in Linz and, of course, tried the Linzer torte but it was not my favourite. Too heavy and too much dough. I'm more a fan of the Sahne Creme stuff.
Had such a laugh over your description of Francesco - you're such a good writer considering English is your second language. The frog family was so cute they didn't look real. Reminded me of one of those German fairy stories with animals that talk etc.

What is the "backscratcher"...very interesting and I may have to order one for my goofy cousin...is this actually a drink??? :rotfl:

There is a recipe for the Backscratcher on page 50 of the Dis Recipe exchange.

It is so disappointing that you got a bad waiter, it spoils the experience doesn't it. Like you I love Wolfgang Puck Express and can't wait to be back there in December, we have also booked the upstairs Dining Room at the Cafe for Christmas Day, this will be a new one for us. Can't wait to read your Universal reviews. I am so, so hoping that the froggies at French Quarter don't feel the need to say either hello or goodbye to me, I so won't be offended by their lack of manners LOL

Okay, finally, the next installment!

Aug 26 - Wolfgang Puck's Express (now, what else is new :goodvibes ), Riverside Mill and California Grill

Aug 26 was our moving day over to Universal Orlando. But no visit to WDW is complete without a visit to the California Grill, so we had a reservation for it for that particular evening.
But let's start at the beginning. We had packed all our stuff the night before and hauled it to the car around 10am. By 10.45 we were ready to leave. First we left our luggage with Bell Services, since we wanted to go to DTD and loads of luggage in a convertible are a no go for me. We then drove over to DTD to enjoy one last Wolfgang Puck's lunch before 4 days of Universal Food. We decided to share our orders. They were the Italian Sausage and Roasted Red Pepper Pizza with spinach and garlic-basil pesto sauce fresh thyme and chili flakes. Very tasty and LOADS of sausage!!

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_8512.jpg

The second dish was the California Turkey Hoagie - house roasted all natural turkey breast layered with sun-dried tomato and artichoke heart salad, organic spinach and butter lettuce. Again a HUGE portion, but VERY good tasty. We enjoyed this very much, especially the home made chips that came with it.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/WDW%20food/IMG_8515.jpg

For dessert we picked up two cookies, since the Creme Bruleč was not an option that day and they were out of brownies.

Double Chocolate Chip Cookie

After browsing DTD again and picking up some more souvenirs we went back to the Riverside Mill to finally spend the last three of our snack credits. Spending these were the most work! :lmao:

We got a magic cookie bar to take with us, a cold beverage - diet coke to share and an ice-cream sundae! This was a pleasant surprise as well, three scoops of ice-cream, whipped cream and mickey sprinkles and a cherry on top! It was really really good!
