I was thinking of bringing a ziploc bag full of detergent....then DH pointed out that this may look suspicious when travelling.
What do you all do? :confused3

I assume you are talking about a powder detergent. You'll be fine traveling with that.

Because we only travel with carry-on, we buy the small travel size bottles that have two loads of detergent ($1.00).

We have found many hotel washers do not mix powder detergent well and our clothes come out spotted, so we always use liquid when traveling. It really sucks to pay and do the same load twice.

Thanks for the advice! I didn't realize I could find travel sized laundry detergent.

I've never had a problem w/ powder detergent and the DVC machines. I normally use liquid at home but I purchased a small box of powdered detergent specifically for traveling. I take one ziplock bag and fill it w/ one portion, then do it for as many more as I think I'll need on my trip. Just a few months ago I had 8 of those baggies in my suitcase and thought the same thing: "how suspicious does this look???" but all baggies arrived to MCO unharmed! :rotfl:

We have it in our Owner's Locker.

They actrually have little pouches like salad dressing pouches you get at the grocery store salad bar. We bring two or three of those along witht he box that Disney provides (powder but works well for us). That way we can do a load almost every day while at the parks or diner.
We pack very light with clothes.

We pack as many as ten snack bags of powdered detergent and an equal number of bags of powedered bleach in our timeshare bag when we travel to any timeshare (including DVC). We never have had any trouble. With everything else in our timeshare bag, the detergent probably does not look very suspicious.

For our trip this past summer, I found travel size bottles of ALL detergent at Target for about $1.00 in the travel section.

Target carries a very small highly concentrated container enough for 2 loads. I have brought my own detergent, both powder and liquid forms. This last trip I just had a bottle delivered with our groceries and it was cheaper than buying those travel bottles. Plus, it saved the space in my suitcase since the airlines are getting so strict with the baggage policy.

That's exactly what I do. It gets packed in my checked luggage. The first time I did it, I labeled it...cause it looks suspicious, but certainly doesn't SMELL suspicious.:lmao:

If you premix your detergent in a little hot water, this is less likely to occur. Basically - make liquid detergent out of your powder.
But its easier to buy the travel sized Tide. We've also done the box of $1 store detergent, which is enough for a load a day all week. I wouldn't use it all the time, nor would I use it if any of us were sensitive to detergent, but it works fine for the week at Disney.

I store the smallest size 3X concentrated All liquid detergent in my owners locker. I've also mailed this same bottle down, prior to having a locker, and left the remainder in the laundry room day of departure for the next guest. 32 loads for less than $4.00. :)

I have been using Dropps. They used to sell them at Target, but I have not seen them recently. They are pretty expensive, but I take them on almost every vacation now, not just DVC. They are very concentrated so they are very small per load. Just do a web search for Dropps and you will find their online store and website.
Everyone but DH is allergic to detergents with fragrances so I bring a plastic 16 ounce Coke bottle filled with Tide-Free HE and labeled as such. For some reason, the Coke bottle travels better than other bottles I have tried - shampoo, body wash, etc.
Can I tell you that I fell in love with the LG Tromms at BCV on our trip last month?

We bring these. They're easy, convenient, and do a good job on the clothes.

At BWV Studio in May we called room service and had 4 travel sized detergent boxes delivered, which were supposed to be $1 per box, I don't think they actually charged us for them though.

We use Dropps also. Bought them at Bed Bath & Beyond for $1.99. One package does 15 loads I think.

We usually rent a car and hit a target and purchase some inexpensive detergent and leave the leftovers for the members coming in after us (unless, of course, mousekeeping takes it).. but on a few trips when we asked for more coffee (? can't remember) the mousekeeper asked if we needed more detergent, and we said why not, and she handed us a few of those tide boxes and didn't charge us.

I recently used Dropps for our last DCL cruise and for our BCV stay two weeks ago - I went to our local laundromat and purchased three tide boxes (75 cents a box).

I have done this too.....and I also bring a spray and wash stain stick and dryer sheets. Saves money buying it at home. Now that we have an owner locker for our Nov. trip....I will buy big size products to keep in there.

I've been timesharing for years. And, I always just premeasure the powder in snack size ziploc baggies. You don't really need that many and they don't weigh that much. I throw in dryer sheets too. I put this in my checked luggage. I've never tried with a roll-on but I doubt it is against the rules as long as it isn't liquid.
I like the coke bottle idea though. I'll have to remember that. I figured if I'm packing less clothes I can add a few ounces of detergent and it won't effect the weight of my luggage.

We have an Owner's Locker and love it for just this reason. We can store things such as laundry detergent and not have to worry about bringing it back and forth each time we head to our "Happy Place." That said, we did fly in and out of a smaller airport once that didn't have the equipment to check your bags and they searched through the luggage. I had to remove my powdered laundry detergent because they said it was a hazardous material. Luckily, our car was parked right outside the airport doors and I could put everything back in the trunk. I have never had any trouble when I was flying through bigger airports, but just that once made me hesitate each time to put something in my luggage.

Isn't there some detergent already in the DVC units when you arrive? I thought two small boxes of Tide were there last time (one load each) - depends on how much you wash I guess. We bought some liquid there and keep it in the Owners Locker.

They are rated for HE washers, so you're good there.
There are two different "kinds":
Scented
Scent Free/Dye Free
The Scent Free/Dye free are also enzyme free, which means they'd probably work for you for sensitive skin.
We have bought both kinds...typically using the Scent Free/Dye Free on the baby's clothes. It works as well as (though obviously doesn't smell as nice as) Dreft, for us.
We've seen them at both Target and Walmart....as well as Bed, Bath, and Beyond. Heck, even our local grocery store (Price Chopper) has had them on occasion.
LG Tromms??? Is that a front loader?
Front-loader, HE, and with more choices of cycles than I have ever seen - plus the end-of-cycle signal sounds more like chimes or music.
I have a new Kenmore HE machine at home so I am not unfamiliar with the new HE machines - however, I regret not looking more closely at the Tromm when we purchased.

We stay in villas so we have they have the stackables there. I have never even been in a laundry room at the DVC resorts but I heard that BCV only had a couple of them right? I wonder why that is??

Just a little warning for those of you trying Dropps...they are pretty fragile so do not pack them near anything that could weigh down on them. I had the unfortunate experience of one dropps packet getting a hole in it. As the detergent leaked, the other packets disintegrated!:scared1: the container they come in isn't really sturdy, so I would repack into some kind of hard container before travel.:lovestruc

I'm in the minority but I just cough up a $2 for the little box at the VWL store if I do so much laundry that I use up what they give me when we arrive and on T&T day. I'm just not that into doing laundry on my vacation and don't want to worry about leakage if I brought my own.

I am sure that there would be some at the SSR store, too. I've never been there but it looks bigger than the VWL store from pics I've seen. The box I bought in January was a bit bigger than what DVC provided. I ended up tossing out about a load's worth of soap.
You may want to bring a few dryer sheets if you use them.
Have a great time!

I did see the small Tide box at the Beach Club Marketplace. I believe they were 1.75 each.
Local laundromat 50 - 75 cents - not bad if you only take one or two additional boxes (if you plan on doing laundry).

:thumbsup2 Yep! We did this last time too. The ALL was a very small bottle (3-4oz??) and held 2 loads. Since we were using a small washer in the villa and even then not quite full I got 3 loads out of it easily. Along with using the given box of Tide at checkin and Trash and Towel we are all set.
ETA: I just picked up a few more last week for future trips. They were located in front of the pharmacy in the bins of travel items.
PS> I just looked and they are 2oz! Good to go in a carry-on but are well sealed for check-in (although I put things in a zip lock just to be sure)
Hopefully

I bought Dropp's yesterday at Walmart.com. They were $6 plus shipping at the Dropp's site for a bag of 20, and the same bag was $4.57 at Walmart. With shipping it came to something like $6.63.
Thanks for the warning about packing them in a rigid container. I would not have thought of that.
