I have booked our first cruise for next September but am unsure what to do about our hire car....is it best to leave it at the Disney resort and arrange alternative transportation to the Port? Or drive to the port and park? Does anyone one know how much is the parking at Port Canaveral? Do you have to book it in advance? Thanks in advance.

Parking at the port is $15 per day - no need to book, just pay when you get there.
Depending on the length of the cruise, and how may of you there are, it may work out cheaper to arrange a transfer although not sure you could leave your car at a Disney hotel as your parking permit expires on the day you check out.

Thank you both...I didn't realise that. (We are hiring a car for the first time in December. )
We will just park at the port. It's not a problem as only for 4 nights. :thumbsup2

The easiest option is park up but its $60 for parking ontop of 4 days rental sat doing nothing.
Another option is rent thru Budget, no charge to drop off at their port location with free shuttle to the ship. This saves 3 days rental as when you collect after the ship your rental starts early morning but drop off at airport after this time so only saving 3 days not 4 days rental. That would have saved us about £52 last month ontop of the £30 parking. Another bonus is the car you collect after your cruise includes another tank of gas(if you take gold cover, we always do) so about another £30 better off.
All in we would have been better off by about £112 dropping the car, this time we didn't but next year is a 7 night cruise so the saving is nearer £200, although we like having the car sat at the port for storage I just can't pay £200 for it.
It can be easily done thru USrentacar, they use budget and offer port location.

Thanks Wayne....I thought about doing that but last night when I put my dates in and collect from MCO drop off at Cape Canaveral it came up with nothing. I'll try it again.

Strange, if you type in cape canaveral it should give you 8401 Astronaut Blvd., Cape Canaveral, Florida

On usrentacars website under Cape Canaveral their was two addresses Astronaut Blvd & N Atlantic Blvd....I must have chose the later as I just tried using the Atronaut address and it worked. It works out about £30 cheaper and also saves the $60 parking and the full tank of petrol so it is definately worth doing that way. Thanks Wayne. :thumbsup2
What this also means is that as a surprise for my DH I can rent a Mustang Convertible for the last 4 days of our trip.....we priced it up for our December trip but it was just so expensive for 17 nights and I am not sure if it will be too cold in December so we decided not to...but it will be a nice surprise for him next year.
