Wow... I get to post #3...

I'll edit in stuff from the prior thread now...

There is no doubt in my mind that there were thieves lurking on the Magic as Fincantieri was one of the folks who said he did not get one when we were on the boat and I absolutely remember delivering it to his room - we dined right next to each other, live near each other, and I remember telling my DD (who delivered the FE gifts w me) that it was their room (as my DDs adore his DDs). There was no way I forgot his room.

Not to throw accusations out there - but I think there was some anomosity from folks from a competing board... and the STs were in full representation...

I delivered the FE to all the rooms on the afternoonon our first sea day. I will note those that say they did not receive my FE gift and I will PM you when I get my hands on some Panama stamps... Let me do an inventory of my other country stamps to see which one is my next fewest... but I think I should have at least 10-15 of all the other countries - I am sure I can score a dozen Panama stamps on ebay for a couple of bucks.

Who knows SIL? I think it was mostly young folks or pranksters. Having met some of the folks from the other board - I thought they were quite decent sorts. Nothing to really to raise an eyebrow from ME. Frankly, I've heard of so much gossip and comment aside - that it makes me wonder a bit about some of the folks who are normal looking here amongst us. IE, some rumors I heard before the cruise seem to have been proven afterwards. Gee... is the muck rucking?

Seriously... in the end ... who knows if this or that is this or that after all? All I realy know is I am who and what I am... and I mean no harm or foulness to anyone. I'm here to visit ... post a few fun or mildly interesting images ... and on rare occassion I'll even post a bit of dribble too. In the end ... if someone out there gets a chuckle out of something I tossed in - then I am a bit happier at the end of the day. It would be nice I think if everyone wanted to just share chuckles and silent grinnin' moments too, eh?

OK... lets see what else I can quote from the other thread before it fades into the great abyss....

As nicely as I can, please let's not do this. There is no need to fuel any anomosity. I have to say that I actually met some of those who aren't on the DIS and admit that I was surprised...no, more likely shocked...to find that they were nothing like I had imagined or dreaded.

I met quite a few people the last couple days...and even outside the terminal waiting for DH to return with the rental car...who had not heard of the DIS or any other board until the cruise and were excited about the possibility of being part of a group and participating in their next cruise more like they had witnessed on the ship. Some people don't like that kind of planning. To each his own. This was the first cruise where my family didn't have a list of activities to attend each day and I have to admit that as anti-social as it might sound I enjoyed that for a change. It was just what we needed as a family. This allowed DS to make some friends who I didn't even know before the cruise because he had the time to do so.

I have read comments that people think the decorated doors are gaudy and even a hazard. LOL! Then you have others ... like Aly & AJ ... who comment that they think it is really "cool" that people do that. This isn't the first cruise where door magnets or FE gifts have disappeared, unfortunately. People are going to have differing views and opinions. As annoying as some of the things that happened on the cruise were, try not to let them sour the experience.

I have been majorly upset with myself about losing one of our SD cards. I have no pictures from getting on the bus 8/17 to before our Palo dinner 8/25. Since we were not alone on the ship, I am getting pictures...some really great ones of our family actually...from others who were with us or happened to recognize us and took a picture. Having that picture of us taken from the shore leaving LA is priceless and totally unexpected. My DS told me not to be upset with myself about that and it is great that we have the pictures of us on the new continent so he can share them with his class. DD's favorite thing was horseback riding in Aruba so they are happy...I should be too.

Lisa ... this was nicely put. And on the point of the memory card... I'm totally sympathetic. I lost a bunch of pictures from a past Disney sailing... my microdrive crashed from a huge static shock I randomly picked up. Such a pain. AND on the door decorations... I began with a fairly simple door decoration arrangement ... and I think I ended up wiuth a lot of memorable magnets and magnetic things added. (special thanks to Laura for your "Family" magnet"). SO on the thought that some think the door decorations are cool... and others who think it's silly.... I think every person they shall have thier opinions... and being actually the FIRST TIME we ever decorated our door ... I really enjoied it! I've only done the FE thing twice now... and each time I've found it to be a better experience and I've stepped up my involvement with giving too!

Well I should think we're not done posting. LOL Let's see we still have a thread for the blabbermouths cruise 2.5yrs later! This thread won't shut up soon, I'm sure. ;)

am the Queen of procrastination and dh is the King.
We moved in Feb. -- we lived in the other house for 17yrs and I thought it was our *forever* house. It was packed to the gills (both attics, garage & all 4 bdrms.....) with our stuff. Dh decided to we needed a new house and BAM we bought a new house! LOL! I never had time to even think about packing, moving, etc...it just happened! LOL!
We sold the house right before we left for the cruise. And now we have to get all of our stuff out of the house -- actually dh made a deal that we only *have* to take the stuff we want and the new owners have to get rid of everything else......
It's tough for me since I want ALL of my stuff! LOL! Dh did tell me today that this house has really nice floored attic space and he wouldn't mind putting everything I want in there for now.

Oh Stephanie... sorry. I did know you had moved awhile back but just wasn't thinking and thought OMG she moved again? where to? hopefully not further away! LOL
I totally understand and know what you mean about wanting to keep everything! More attic space in this house made me want to take everything too hehe
(I may give you a run for your money on that queen of procrastination title though. we'll see who ends up getting completely unpacked first. For this cruise I had ONE carryon bag STILL UNPACKED from the last cruise 2.5yrs ago! Granted it was set aside in a closet and forgotten- but still that's not the point. I actually had a bag from the last cruise still not unpacked 2.5yrs later. Crazy huh? LOL It wasn't clothes or necessary items obviously LOL)

I have been majorly upset with myself about losing one of our SD cards. Oh, I'd be totally upset too. Hopefully it will turn up, though.

My camera broke the night before we hit Castaway Cay. I think it got too much sand and salt in it when we were in Cabo. (It's a waterproof so I thought nothing of taking it to the beach/in the water. Guess I should have at least protected it from the rough waves.) Luckily I thought to bring our old water camera, even though it's not as good, so we didn't miss anything the last day of the cruise - or the couple days after at WDW.

In regards to the door decorations, which I did too because it's cool and it helped identify which room was mine, while I was in the room one day, I heard kids passing by and one girl said that she loved that people decorated the doors and that the decorated doors made her happy. I thought it was funny and I'm sure that on the next cruise, her door will be decorated too.

We didn't have anything stolen off of our door, but people did keep writing random things on our dry erase board, which annoyed my sister to no end, though I don't know why.

I'm a victim of antenna topper theft. A few years ago, when I went to the Disney Store in San Francisco, I bought a Mickey antenna topper. I was so excited to put it on my Wrangler, and it was there for a few days, until I parked it at the mall and then it was gone. I was really upset for a multitude of reasons, the two major ones being I couldn't find it being sold anywhere and the other being why was someone touching my car?!?!

Sil, I got the card at the very beginning. Loved it. Thought I had lost it but found it yesterday. Great.
Never did get the gnome. I had seen it but I was in the front past the forward elevator and I think this is why we didn't get anything taken of the door. Everytime I heard something being put in the FE I opened the door to get it, and that is probably why the gnome never made it down my way.

Has anyone heard from MaineJennifer:confused3
Her DM got sick while on the TOAL and they had to leave early:guilty:
I know she was stable when they left and they were mostly being cautious, but I haven't seen her post yet. I hoping everything turned out ok:confused:
They were great tablemates.

I have to get back on smugmug to see all the pictures. I am about half way through editing my photos. We didn't book onboard and when we got home I told DH I wish we had and he said "why didn't we?" I thought he was the one that didn't want to!:headache: Oh well it won't stop us from cruising again, but it might be a few years.

I got my post card yesterday too. I was surprised it wasn't postmarked. That is the only reason I sent one. Oh well at least I that the Panama Canal stamp. I really enjoyed the card with all the stamps. Great idea and one of the many wonderful FE gifts.

Been there done that. ;) Last cruise DH rode a bike out to the end of the adult beach area and was taking pictures on the rocks...with our Kodak nonwaterproof camera...and dropped it in the water. He got it back and the card was fine but the camera was shot. I got the Kodak with video to replace it. :) We had the older back up for pictures at least that night and the next day getting off the ship.

Just reposting a post from the very end of thread #14

Wow! Just getting back to the boards after a difficult week at work (and TOAL withdrawl) and see quite a discussion about my FE gift. Those who got it and enjoyed it... I am thrilled. When trying to decide that the FE gift should be, I wanted it to be interesting, educational and unique. Below is a what the FE gift looked like for those who for some reason did not get one:

http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa262/silmarg/scan0001.jpg

Actually the image is missing a Panama stamp (those I gave out to everyone had a Panama (or Canal Zone) stamp on it). It turns out I had the fewest of Panama stamps.

I did have just enough FE gifts for every family (like 140) who was on the last FE list (in fact I forgot to pack the FE color coded map and Julie (bellinus) got me a copy on short notice). I only had like 4 fully completed version left over after distributing them. While aboard a DISer said they didnt get it, so I gave them one. Then gave one to my server, asst server and my mousekeeper... so I have none left! (my DW is not pleased I did not keep one for ourselves). I am not sure why so many of you did not get one... it was certainly not my intention. ***I suspect theft, but that is a different discussion***

I have enough supplies (ex a Panama stamp) to make about 10 to 15 more of these FEs for anyone that wants one (does anyone have Panama stamps from Mickey Mates they never used?). PM me if you want me to send a FE to you or if you have Panama stamps to support this cause. *** update: I have a bid on ebay to purchase a dozen Canal Zone stamps... so in a week I should be able to make some more of the FE gifts for those who want one but did not get it***

As for the history of my FE... it started out with my wanting to do something related to coins from each country as several countries had odd shaped coins such as:

http://128.192.145.172/foreign2/1991ar50.jpg
http://128.192.145.172/foreign11/69bi10.jpg
http://www.joksankolikot.net/kolikot/meksiko/0_20-centavos-1992.jpg

The 20 centavo coin is 12 sided (not round).

But getting such coins in bulk in advance was proving quite difficult (and I work for a major bank). So I turned to stamps.

I was trolling e-bay and found a fair supply - and many at bargain prices. I found one guy selling 150 postally used Bahamas stamps from his fathers collection for like $2. After I won the auction I asked if he had stamps from the other countries he said yes to all but Aruba. And he gave them all to me for like $10. What a bargain! So all I needed was Aruba. How hard could that be? Well, Aruba has only been an independant country since 1986, so there are not may old collections out there collecting dust and being sold on ebay. I posted a want ad on ebay and contacted collectors in the Netherlands and Belguim - all to no avail. So I called the Aruban Post Office around July 25. They contacted me with the Philatelic (stamp collecting) bureau. The woman there was willing to sell me 40c stamps in bulk and have it Express shipped to me if I would wire funds to her. She wanted like $30 for the stamps, $30 for express delivery... and it cost $40 for the bank wire (no, us employees dont get a discount). And the "express" delivery was anything but... A week passed... no package... Two weeks... no package... we finally got the package on the day we left for the TOAL (Aug 13).

On my flight to LA I began to assemble the FE gift. The flight attendants were asking me what I was doing. I said I am making a gift for some friends I am going on a cruise with. Her response.... "you have a lot of friends!"

"Now you all know the rest of the story... good day!"

Never got the gnome, wasn't even sure he made it to Deck 5 until I saw the signatures and see that he did. I love the idea of it, just wish he would have visited me. Alas, on my last cruise the door tag magnet didn't make it to my cabin either. Someone must be telling me somthing.

Didn't have any magnets stolen. Not sure about FE gifts since there's no way to know if we got them all or not. Not fair to blame any other internet board. If kids were stealing magnets and FE gifts, it's not because of what board their parents post on. It's because they are kids who were largely unsupervised and felt like being unruly. My son, whom many of you have told me in person or posted her that when you met him he was quite polite. Well, he still got caught in the halls a few times. He was even quite embarassed that BIP saw him acting up. I don't think he took any gifts or magnets, but I'm not entirely sure. He never came back to the room with anything extra.

Business cards handed out - why not? You've got an audience that obviously likes the product you sell, why not solicit more business. It's not like all you got in your FE was a business card. There was other stuff given out with it too. Other FE gifts were pushing a specific agenda too, yet no one is complaining about those.

one more from #14...

Let me toss an wild question out there to the group.

Let me preface it with an interesting story.

The evening before the cruise we ate at Goofy's Kitchen in DLH and we overheard our waitress talking to another table about the upcoming repo cruise. I figured the people she was serving must be going...

So I asked her. And she said, "No those folks are friends of mine. I was telling them that I was going on the Repo cruise."

Suffice it to say, we hit it off with her from then on. Our respective DDs hit it off and we sat near each other at several of the shows in the Walt Disney Theatre.

She is not a Disboarder. We never got her contact info and never had a formal goodbye.

Her name was Laura and her DD (about age 9) was Madison.

I have great pictures of them. If anyone has contact information from them I would love to share the photos with them.

Alternatively, does anyone know some one that works at Goofy's Kitchen or plans to eat there soon?

Thanks to all who have posted pictures on the smugmug site (http://thepiratezone.smugmug.com/). I have enjoyed glancing through them and seeing great shots of friends. It will be nice to be able to download some of the pictures of people who we shared a great time with, but didn't get pictures of.

So please upload your photos to the site! I promise to do so once I get them a little more organized.

LOL, Jo, I was just coming to give the same info.

Not sure I'm interested in a Baltic cruise. Might consider the transatlantic again. Especially since DS really wants to do that one. Problem is, I wouldn't want him to miss school again. I may book it just to have it, then see if it works out once we get closer to 2010.

Hi Monica - I always wanted to do a Baltic cruise. It is part of the world that I would love to see and cruising is the way to go for us because we wouldn't cover as much ground as we would on a cruise

I would love to do a transatlantic but May doesn't work and I need to be home the last week of August with DD in high school now because all the sports or other school things begin then

It was great to meet you by the way

a few comments

What?
I totally do not even remember ever seeing Trevoy acting up- seriously. PM me what happened or something because I don't remember it! I thought Trevoy was a sweet (and yes, very polite) kid and don't remember him acting up in any way! I was even thinking I wish I'd put Ruby in the OQ because she probably would have hung out with Trevoy since they hit it off so well before the cruise hanging out swimming and stuff. So what did I catch him doing that for some reason my brain decided to totally forget? LOL

Someone on the main board found that the Magic is listed as visiting Oslo, Norway during the summer of 2010

Andrew did a print screen of the website and I am moving it over here for anyone else that would be interested in it

I have everything out of the suitcases -- so, that they could be put int he attic.... BUT, everything isn't put where it belongs.....

I can relate to that! :) DH is trying really hard to not get upset by the mess here. DD's room is cleaned up now from our fall cleaning session yesterday and the living room just needs a deep dusting of the shelving and moldings and it will be done too. In a couple weeks things will be back to the normal clutter that is our lives. ;)

Well, we all made it back to the UK & are now back in to some sort of normality with school & work. I also came home with the mother of all colds & am still suffering now - at least the CC rugby sunburn has now subsided! Have finally unpacked & cases are away, so just need to sort out the photos & upload them onto the site.

It was wonderful to meet so many of you & I can genuinely say we made some friends that will last beyond the TOAL. I still find it amazing that there were so many people we never met.

Thankyou to everyone who made our trip a TOAL, from those who organized activities, to those in the FE & SM & also those that just said "Hi!".

We are eagerly awaiting October & the 2010 itinery & hoping it is Europe.

I have a great picture of my 3 lobsters the first night but I only ate two the second time for formal night. :woohoo: We just have not had time to organize the pictures or get off the mini DVD camera. I have lots of incriminating videos of lots of activities.

Not sure either if I want the Baltic but it all depends on the economy.:headache: I think we will also try to book it and see what happens.:rolleyes1

Hi Everyone!

Just a thought for those who have lost memory cards or had cameras lost or damaged - a good habit is to have more than one card and swap them around each day. Even if you only have 2, if you swap them each day and end up losing one or having it die (they can self-destruct - it's just not that common) you would still have an assortment of photos from throughout your trip. Even better is to have 3 or 4 cards and keep switching them around.

Monica - My DH commented to me one day that it was totally unfair to call Trevoy a ST since he was a very polite, pleasant young man!

Smugmug - have only managed to get a few days uploaded. I'm still sorting through all the photos. We took around 1700 (which is small beans compared to some) and it takes me a while (they were spread across 8 memory cards!)

Baltic - I would LOVE to go to the baltic. My parents did a Baltic cruise this June and loved it. Their photos are fantastic. There are so many amazing ports there. We'll have to see what the prices are like - if we can afford it, I would love to go there.

SIL - It is so nice of you to offer to make more postcards for those of us who didn't get them! I certainly didn't post about it to make more work for you - I just wanted the others who posted about not getting various things to know that it was a somewhat common problem and not just them. If you end up making more, I'll send you a stamped self-addressed envelope to make it easier on you. If you don't have the time, please don't worry about it - it would be a great souvenear for the scrapbook, but we can certainly survive without :)

I think we're very interested in the Baltic, and hoping that they'll be 12 night cruises like our DISboard sleuths have speculated. Then I hope we can swing it! If we have to choose, we probably won't be doing the transatlantic though. As much as I love the Magic, I'm really interested in seeing those European ports.

Oh, no!!! I hope everything is ok now.

one more from #14...

I hope you find them! That is an interesting story!

Hello fellow Pirates,

I know I didn't post much because, quite frankly, the thread moved way too quickly for me to even try to keep up. I managed to keep abreast of what was going on via the slower Pirates Zone thread and a big hearty thank-you to Tom for organizing that. In fact, I was a little apprehensive about doing this cruise without really "knowing" many of my fellow cruisers. I knew as early as embarkation that my fears were all for naught. I was totally floored by just how welcoming and friendly everybody was. I participated in the FE list expecting that most people who didn't "know" me would just bypass my cabin. Boy, was I wrong! Day after day, my FE was filled with many wonderfully creative and generous gifts. Some of you guys are just too funny......I LOVED the messages on the poker cards and nearly passed out when I saw the chicken! Thank-you so very much for your kindness and generosity, but most of all, for making me feel like I was part of the bunch.

I also loved the costume parade on Pirates night and appreciate just how much time and effort many of you put into creating those wonderful outfits.

Thanks to all for making this trip so very special.

My son loved it and has it proudly displayed on his bulletin board now!

I keep coming across little things as I sort thru papers and bags and such....they bring back such fun moments. I'm trying to write down notes, as I know I'll forget so many things before I get them scrapbooked! I'm really excited about scrapbooking this trip...especially after the absolutely amazing scrapbook swap we had in Stephanie's room! I feel like I'm ahead of the game with so many page layouts already done for me!

I looked thru pictures on the pirate board today....wow is all I can say! Such great shots and it was really fun to see pictures from things we did not get to go see (aka cliff divers, parties and excursions when we were off doing other things). There was a picture posted from the Hard Rock in Cartegena that had some of our group sitting and waiting for us while we were inside...LOL That was funny!

It is fun to see everybody's different shots, even if they are of similiar things. I love the "signs" group, as there are many signs onboard that I thought I took but forgot. That will come in handy while scrapbooking!

Thanks again for all the fun!

I'd also be curious to hear of peoples excursion's....the good, the bad and the ugly. I'm trying to keep notes of which were good and which were not. There were pic's of cabo and I wondered where the group was and if they liked the beach location.

Thanks so much for the compliment on Trevoy. He really is a great kid. But just like anything else, it seems to be the bad that sticks out in one's mind. Most of the time I do not use the ST reference, but when I do, that's because he has recently tested my patience.

It may have been me as I saw him giving Monica a hard time at one point.:confused3

All in all, he only had 2 major meltdowns. First while waiting for the pirate bus. Second on Aruba day, which is why we missed the Jolly Pirates. He was quite contrite that night at dinner, not knowing who saw and who didn't. But after each incident he was very apologetic.

As for the one with Shelley. He was either running or jumping in the stairways and was spoken to by a cast member. He thought that he looked up and Shelley was right there. Might not have been her though. And after this incident I didn't hear any more about him running the halls.

I'm in a wait and see for the Baltic announcement. With the Med cruises, the itineraries were so rushed that people really didn't enjoy the cruises. I don't want to see Europe that way. If the ports will be more spaced out, then I'll consider one of the 12 days (assuming that's what they are) instead of the transatlantic. Especially if we can turn it into a reunion cruise.

Finally home as of yesterday evening. Had another great week on the Magic not as eventful as the 15 day but relaxing. We only made it to CC one day rather then 2 but that's o.k. Our 2nd day at CC would have been a wash out.
Major storm on the island. The ship was already getting ready for dry dock while we were onboard, carpet laying going on in diff parts of the ship particle type board put down on deck 4 and deck 10 but all in all we still had a great time even with the ship rockin and a rolllin a couple of evenings. Now to unpacking and laundry and getting things put away Ugh! I will say we did have the best dressed pirates on the 15 day, the pirates on the 5 day didn't even compare.

We were lucky DS14 had his meltdown in the cabin-much worse and glad noone saw it:rolleyes:

I think that the meltdown award goes to the little blonde boy who must have been 7 or so. He had a little sister with short, thinning blonde hair. One day I was in Shutters talking with Todd and another DISer [sorry I forget who, I only met you once] and behind me I could tell that something major had happened. It sounded like someone was being slaughtered. The looks on their faces told me not to turn around. Apparently the two kids did something to each other and it resulted in the worst meltdown that I have ever seen. When I did turn around the mother was carrying the boy out of Shutter's horizontally with all limbs flailing. People were getting out of the way to avoid connecting with one of them.

OK we have been at Boardwalk Villas since yesterday and have been just too tired to go out. I had to call our own Cpt Jack and beg off of a meeting at Jellyrolls. Steve and I were just too tired to go and ended up taking a small nap

Dang Nap it - I was typing up this long post and then I accidentally hit some keys and deleted the last 3 minutes of typing.

I was going to post that my adopted sister took my to the Florida mall and we hit the sale at Sears - got me this really cute bathing suit for less than $12. :scared1: Guess I'm still hitting the sales.

I wrote earlier before I got deleted that I am all for doing a Baltic as its a place I've wanted to go too but have to adopt a wait and see stance as some of you too.

As Monica said - the Med was very tiring and I would definitely need some time to recoup. I've realized that I'm not a spring chicken anymore and I have to conserve energy.

Saw Arlene and Pam Disney Sweetie last night and poor Pam and her hubby had walked from the Swan and Dolphin over the bridge and then to the Boardwalk w/o having dinner so Steve ended up taking them home while I said good-by to Arlene and Rich. Glad to see you made it home alright.

Found a very decent Mexican restaurant in Orlando and had my fill of yummy burritos, sopes and gorditas and am considering going back tonight but might have to indulge Steve's love of Shoney's chocolate cake desert.

:wave2: Lisa -

that be me - OMG was that a winner. That was also right after my meeting with some controlling ST's but that's ok - I got on the elevator anyway :rotfl2: . He was loud wasn't he? I sorta felt so sorry for the parents. I think I have more sympathty for the parents than the kids. There were a lot of little tired pirates so that's what I put it off too. Anyway, in answer to your post, this was actually the 2nd time that Steve and I have actually particpated as much as we did in DIS stuff. In July I only went ot Rocking Bar D to embarras my son but after 3 days - he got used to me and so we played the ignore game. We did a lot of family stuff on that cruise so this one was dedicated to what I wanted to do and I thank DH for that. He was a great trouper.

We actually made it to the end of cruise 2 before I had my own mini-version of a meltdown but then we struck a deal that he would pack if I promised not to freak out and so I jumped on it. :scratchin Think I will aim for that bargain next time we cruise. Made for a less stressful end of cruise.

OK the stomach just roared so I'm going to see if DH is ready to eat. all

The chicken was a big hit in my cabin as well. What made is more special was that we got the chicken on Acapulco day.. and while on the excursion for Aca the bus we were on got stuck on a narrow street waiting for traffic ahead to clear an we saw a stand on the street selling fresh chickens... they were just de-feathered... they still had the heads and legs attached... and we were all chatting about it on the bus with our DDs and DSs... only to find a rubber chicken in the FE!

Now that I have finally caught up on laundry and at work I wanted to send along a "thanks" to everyone who left fun magnets on our door and cards and for all the work on the pirate zone website (thanks much Tom). I loved the pirate zone site and had a lot of fun planning and preparing with it. As it turned out we didn't end up doing too much with the group--since January I have been working very extended hours and we needed some family time, the kids really wanted to preserve our time alone as a family and we tried to respect that as much as possible. But it was fun seeing familiar people around the ship and seeing everyone enjoying themselves so much. We had an absolutely fabulous time, I hope everyone else did too!

1st paragraph in quote: You know I do think I remember that now that you mention it- but it wasn't big enough to stick in my brain. :)
(I also didn't see his meltdown waiting for the pirate bus either. His behavior must have been mild in comparison to others, cause I don't even remember it. hehe)

2nd paragraph in quote: We couldn't afford the med cruise (primarily due to the flight costs) but I also thought it sure seemed like a very busy (many ports) cruise.. I figured that would be hard to handle going on excursions every day and I know we'd want to get off the ship everywhere- and figured that would add up to big COST too. Spaced out a bit is better. I liked having more sea days on the PC cruise. :)

I agree! I'm just sorry that I had to run out during the swap! LOL! Never enough time in a day! That's what I get for keeping the kid's club beeper on me! LOL!

Hey all!

a few comments

I never got the traveling gnome either, but did pass it in the hallway on Coral's door. I went back to the cabin and got a pen and signed it! OK, so maybe I cheated! :rotfl2:

Hmmm...wonder how long before DCL gets them to delete that information from their site like they did when DISers found info on the Med?

I think the cat is out of the bag now!

Cool! Maybe a reunion cruise? LOL!

Kaitlin says hi to Hailey! :yay:

Who gave out the chicken?

I thought the chicken was cute too. Sil I loved your FE gift. Very imaginative.

As for the FE gifts that went MIA. I was right outside Ocean Quest and it was clear that the majority of tweens/teens were out of control. I left one thing in the FE for dd to get and later it was gone and not in the cabin. After that I took things in. As for the business card, it didn't offend me, nor did I think it was tacky. It was in a bag with bubbles and a pen.

It was great meeting everyone, even if it was only once! I was glad that the vast majority of cruisers were polite. I did have a weird incident happen at Midway Airport in Chicago. I saw an older couple at the gate while waiting for the plane. The man had on a Mickey Tiki shirt and I asked if they were going on a Disney Cruise. They said they were and I asked if they DIS'ed. the wife said, "No (long pause) we don't do that." Their whole demeaner changed after that. I saw them at DLH alot but never saw them on the cruise.

If I heard, "How was your vacation?" once, I heard it a hundred times today with everyone asking how it went.

What could I say? I told them that it was WONDERFUL!

And, now that I am home and settling in, I just wanted to say a word about the fish extenders/door magnets.

I was not one of the people on the list because I knew that I would not have time to get anything for the extenders and I did not have one at my door.

It sure did not seem to matter. :)

To the many of you who left me gifts at my door or put magnets on my door, many thanks.

Did you save that note so that we can buy you guys a drink when we make it up to Massachusetts? Poor Mike got stiffed on my "Make a Drink Out of Whatever You Have Left" drinks. And they were actually pretty tasty!

I turned on the Travel Channel as I was putting away some of the laundry, and they had a show all about Salem. I guess it's a sign....

Here's a picture of your family from the vow renewal. I love how it turned out! I have some others to mail to you too.

No you already bought us a drink....I owe you & then some! ;) I really do hope you guys make it to Massachusetts! We did miss out on the Make a Drink night...bummer! ;)

Thanks again for allowing us to part of your special day! It was a really beautiful start to a perfect day at Castaway Cay! Thanks for the photo too! I know I couldn't even keep my eyes open without my sunglasses in the group photo so I can just imagine how "lovely" that one came out!

Well off to do chores. Diane, 3 weeks ago we were at Pinks! I miss you guys!

Tina was it really 3 weeks ago??? :sad2: That was a really fun day & I'm so glad you & DD were able to join us! It was great running into you throughout the cruise & I especially loved that night in Rockin' Bar D when the puppet kept hitting on you! That was hysterical!!! :lmao:

And is that Taylor in that photo? If so, that means she's Diane's daughter? LOL I was trying to figure out who the kids (the few I learned their names and/or saw a lot and/or my kids became friends with) "belonged" to. If that is Taylor, and is Diane's daughter... Diane- she's a real sweetheart!!! -such a lovely young lady and so sweet to lend Ruby her dress one evening. Please thank her again for us.

That is Taylor! Thank you for saying how sweet she is! I was so glad she hooked up with Ruby & had someone to hang with in the Stack. I know she had a blast with her & she hopes to keep in touch. You are very welcome for the use of the dress. I'm glad it worked out!

Her DM got sick while on the TOAL and they had to leave early:guilty:

LOL! I thought so and even typed your name but took it out because I questioned myself. What an awkward moment, eh? :) You know, I was on the dock watching the BMX thing at CC and got to talking to Darlene who is in charge of entertainment on the ship and complemented her on the way they handled the A&A line and crowd control for the signing...unlike some of the other departments that didn't seem to have the guts to stand up to unruley kids. She asked what I was talking about and I filled her in about some of the things we had witnessed on the cruise and of course had to tell her about the demon heathens on your MR cruise. Her jaw dropped to the dock when I told her what had happened and she was upset that nothing was done. She said everyone deserves to enjoy their vacation but not at the expense of other guests. WE HAVE A SMART ONE THERE!!! She made sure that it was 2 cruises prior to the repo and I told her that most of the servers knew of the story along with the Wii controllers being broken/thrown down the elevator shaft. She said that she was going to address that issue with the officers at their next meeting and agreed that DCL, while wanting to be sure to have good CS, needs to address unruly behavior and not permit things like this to go "unaddressed". Hopefully that means that they will get some guts and deal with problems after drydock.

Goodness! I also saw them walking towards the gate in Aruba and he stomped away and sat on the curb. They kept walking. I don't know what happened because I didn't want the kids to witness his outburst and get any ideas. ;)

You know...it's one thing when a guest causes such a huge problem or makes such a big fuss that all of the CMs in a particular department know the passenger by their FULL NAME; but when this many guests know of a person because of how they acted...whether it be an adult or a child...you know it is a problem.

I don't know the answer to that but have to share our story of perfect timing with the FE gifts for DD. We stood in line to get A&A's autographs at 12 noon so that we wouldn't have to wait even longer later on and be sure to get them for DD. She was so awestruck by them and they were so nice to her and excited because she was wearing one of the shirts from their line at Target that was out about 4 years ago. She was walking on air back to the room and told me that the only thing that could make her day better was to get Miley Cyrus' autograph. When we got back there was a little bag in the FE from an email buddy and inside was a postcard of Hanna Montana with Miley's signature. She was just about in tears being so happy. I checked and the person got it from Radio Disney as a promotional thing. :) Needless to say...if you ask DD what the best part of the cruise was she will tell you meeting A&A and getting Miley's autograph...oh and riding the horses in Aruba was fun too...in that order. :rotfl:

I'm feeling so much better about my 7dd.........That is one line even she wouldn't cross! LOL!!!!

Honestly, my kids are NOT perfect. DD bit DS at the end of dinner leaving a bruise that lasted a day and I took her to the room where she was not to have any fun and go to bed after I swatted her behind right there in the dining room twice. When we got to the room my plans were messed up because our host had not been there yet and the bunk bed was not down from the ceiling so we had to be out of the room for a little bit. I went to the theater where DH was waiting for us to let him know what had happened [while DD waited at the door next to a CM because she told me that she didn't deserve to have any fun that night and needed to help our host clean the room] and he wanted to talk to her. She appologized to DS and DH and was truly upset so he told her to sit and watch Wall-E. She doesn't like going to theaters because they are too loud to her so this isn't something she really wanted to do. Just letting you know that I do NOT think my kids are little angels by any means.

Anyhow...I did have to stop and thank my kids for behaving more than once because of the behavior of others we had to put up with. At the Beauty and the Beast vocalist performance there were kids behind us with pretzle bags, kids in front of us fighting and teens next to us talking constantly [at least they got up and left finally]. I remember our first cruise and how DS5 at the time kept asking where the characters were when we were watching Hercules. That wasn't a show that was going to have any characters and if my kids didn't know how to sit quietly through a performance they would have been in the lab. Even DS9.5 sat and listened to the different songs and clapped. He said that he really enjoyed it and hearing about their stories. I really felt sorry for the performers because IMO allowing your kids to act up and distract others in the audience has to be distracting for them and is rude to everyone. :(

That is Taylor! Thank you for saying how sweet she is! I was so glad she hooked up with Ruby & had someone to hang with in the Stack. I know she had a blast with her & she hopes to keep in touch. You are very welcome for the use of the dress. I'm glad it worked out!

She is a doll! I had no idea she was your daughter but I liked her and I was glad Ruby was hanging out with her too and in fact wish Ruby had hung out with her MORE. :lmao:

Okay this is going to sound weird but I want to find out who the other girl belongs to! I'm pretty sure her family was a DIS family.... but it's embarrassing because Ruby can't remember her name! To be fair though- Ruby is just HORRIBLE with names or actually ever even learning people's names in the first place (ie: never asks people their name in the first place. for instance she's had friends in school that she's ate lunch with every day, hang out waiting outside after school with them everyday waiting for me to pick her up, considers them "friends" and then yet when I ask her what the person's name is- she's always oh I don't know, I never asked. LOL Ruby is weird that way.. names don't matter to her I guess -for some weird reason)

ANYWAY.... trying to figure out who the other girl was. Maybe you can ask Taylor, if you don't mind? I saw this girl all the time on the cruise so I really think she was a DIS'ers daughter. She was kinda tall but that's relative since I'm so short. LOL But Taylor might remember because on the last night it was Taylor and "the other girl" that came to get Ruby and were asking if she could come to the stack with them. At first I said I'd TAKE Ruby up there for a short time (she was grounded, and couldn't trust her to actually go to the stack on her own apparently) but the girls waited for awhile, the "other girl" eventually left... Taylor waited a little longer and they kinda hung out right there in the hall waiting for me (I was trying to get everything packed to get bags out in the hall on time) and finally I said okay Ruby can just go. And off she and Taylor went. Well, I'm trying to figure out who that other girl was...... I think Ruby hung out with her too and I know I saw her a lot on the cruise but I don't know her name or if her family is a DIS family... so maybe Taylor knows who I'm talking about?

Oh and Ruby is begging me to buy her a dress like that for a dance at school. She loved the dress. LOL Again, thanks to your sweet daughter for sharing it with her (and to you for letting her). So incredibly nice of you both!

OK back from dinner and have to share something with you all, I was laughing so hard in the store that I almost had an accident. Hope you all enjoy and notice how appropriate the last one is for this group.

INTERNATIONAL RULES OF MANHOOD

Unless you're in prison, never fight naked.

On a road trip, the strongest bladder determines pits stops, not the weakest.

Any man who brings a camera to a bachelor party may be legally killed and eaten by his buddies.

Under no circumstances may two men share an umbrella.

Thou shall not buy a car in the colors of brown, pink, LIME GREEN , orange or sky blue.

If you compliment a guy on his six-pack, you'd better be talking about his choice of beer.

If a man's fly is down, that's his problem, you didn't see anything.

It was so nice meeting you by chance on CC! I enjoyed chatting with you!

Well...we are almost home....we are in Blythe CA which is a city on the CA/AZ border..only about 4 more hours until home. I can't wait...road trip has been nice but ready to get home.

I have 2 meetings tomorrow..one at 3pm and one at 7pm so we have to start out pretty quick in the AM to get home in time to unload and return the rental car....one nice thing about the rental car..it only had 3K miles on it so it still had the new car smell! It has been pretty good...last nite stayed in Hollbrook Az in a Wig Wam....built in the 50s on Route 66..I love doing silly things like that.

Will post tomorrow when I make it home.

Hi Laura!

How long are you at the Boardwalk?

Hi Des - we leave in the afternoon 6:50 FL time and arrive around 9:30 I think. Steve just mentioned today - I wanted to stay another few days and go to the parks:headache: Why oh why does he do that me?

:confused3 Honestly, my kids are NOT perfect.

We also had a problem at the Broadway show. A family in front of us kept holding up some big inflatable blocking our view and kept videotaping. I guess they were first timers. If the child was supervised you would never have known. Noone ever asked the child to behave. I guess the parent was too busy taking pictures. But I guess on a Disney cruise you have to expect that there will be children on board and at shows. We never said anything to the child or the family. Why would we want to embarass the child. :confused3

Just found out from the human girls that the furr kids have been in storage for the entire 3 weeks momma's been gone. I know my kids were jealous but cruel? I didn't know they could be so jealous of the four legged creatures. Someone's going to pay for that one. ;)

LOL! Yes he was. This was his first cruise not running around the ship naked. We had to get pics with some of his buddies onboard. AChip & Dale remembered him and had a ball one night in the atrium tossing him around and rolling on the floor with him. None of those pictures made it to the walls at Shutters. :rotfl2:

No big deal. The kids were having fun. Isn't that what the cruise was all about? Having fun with the kids and family before they are "too old" or "too cool" to be seen with us. All in all the cruise was spectacular. We had a great time with all of you and would do it again in a nanosecond.

Well, our vet would be happy - he was starting to say that Isis - the black diva - could stand to lose about 3 more lbs. She was spayed back in Feb and went from 38 lbs at 3 yrs old to 52 lbs 6 months later. So if she's back down - he'll be happy.

I have to admit is wasn't until today that I really started to miss them. I'm anxious to see what she looks like - ok - what both of them look like. I'm sure I"m going to get some wet kisses from both of them along with some leaps and bounds.

You know you can forgive the little ones for their "meltdowns"............now when an adult does it, it's another story. I am so glad I only had to witness one of those.:sad2:

For those that may have missed Peter's costumes here's a teaser.

I know he wasn't out during the shows though. :( Regarding the too cool thing...it made me smile when DS stopped me before I left him in his classroom so that he could give me a hug his first day of 4th grade when we got home after the cruise. We saw him.. my son was enamored trying to get near the "boy with the banana" at one deck party. I can't remember which party but I know it wasn't the pirates one- maybe the mexican deck fiesta or whatever it's called? I recognized that banana (and the boy holding it) immediately. ;)
My son kept trying to get near the "boy with the banana" for me to take a picture of him (Robert) with the "boy with the banana" (that's how Robert kept saying it! LOL) but it was too crowded and he couldn't get close enough. LOL

Honestly, my kids are NOT perfect. DD bit DS at the end of dinner leaving a bruise that lasted a day and I took her to the room where she was not to have any fun and go to bed after I swatted her behind right there in the dining room twice. I was going to refer to swatting my 7dd during a fit at AK (a few days after the cruise) she was have a screaming fit because Primevil Whirl was not available to ride........ But, I was afraid someone would say something about me beating my kids! :rotfl2:
Oldest dd said that a woman passing by at the time said *Now that's a smart woman.* :rotfl:

but it's embarrassing because Ruby can't remember her name!

This would be like Samantha. It NEVER crosses her mind to ask anyone their name! UGH!!!!! Drives me insane! LOL!
I think sh eonly does now becauses she knows that I am going to ask her their name! LOL!

This wasn't the only time. We saw the boy do this a few times with his parents.

Andy

we witnessed this family too. i think andyr was next to us on the bus in one port (acapulco?) when the boy was hitting his mother hard!! the boy was wailing on her!!! i couldn't believe it!

I have everything out of the suitcases -- so, that they could be put int he attic.... BUT, everything isn't put where it belongs.....

CC day we had a heck of a time realizing which door was ours since I had removed our decorations (I packed them up!) :rotfl2:
DH & the kids turned to me and said *What number is our stateroom?* :rotfl:
We had the same problem finding our cabin the last night! Luckily our cabin was right next to the green vertical lights on the walls. It made it easier to find!

Celestine
We still owe you a badge from the GS event! They were buried on the desk in the cabin and didn't find them again until we were packing up! PM me your address and I'll send you one!

Wasn't it fun?? 10ds put the chicken on his lanyard -- and then had to stop wearing his lanyard to the Lab because *Too many kids keep touching my chicken* :rotfl2: :rotfl2:
:lmao:

They were sitting by us on CC and the brother kicked sand in the sister's face and then at his parents.
I witnessed an amazing sight on CC. There was a guy with his 2 sons and the father just came totally unglued! I don't know what the boys did to start it but all of a sudden Dad had one sons faced shoved in the water. He was screaming, 'how do you like it know? How do you like having your face shoved in the water?' There were then a few instances of kid throwing brothers shirt in the water or in a hole and dad yelling to go get it. The guy was just totally out of control.

I need to start on next year's road trip. I would love to travel as much of route 66 as possible...I also would love to find things like the biggest ball of twine etc...

Last year was Prarie Dog Town...a few years ago was "The Thing" in New Mexico...it's a good thing my family loves me!

I had to edit! I forgot..on this trip we also went a saw the Peabody Ducks do there march into their fountain for the day....

I've done that a few times here in Orlando. Love to see them march.

OMG that is so scary! The boys probably were doing that to each other and wouldn't listen to the dad telling them to stop. I know that my kids will drive me to the edge some days and I will poke at them or pinch or even pull their hair if they have been doing that to the other one to get them to see how it feels but holding the kid's head under water to prove a point is just too dangerous. :sad1:

Not sure, but she gave me a very nasty look. All I could think was are they the "others?" (I sound like LOST!) They were on our flight to LAX. I thought wow, it's gonna be a long cruise. But it all turned out well. Of course I Google too! :lmao: Shocking! :rotfl2:

Loved the postcard and stamps! Never even saw the Roaming Gnome...

Wow the horses were that bad and you still got on them?

Regarding the rumored future ports... Does anyone else remember the captain saying something about a special cruise through the Norwegian Fiords? Looks like that may be true if the Magic is going to Oslo!!

Just to torture myself I went to Royal Caribbean and priced a room with the itenerary closest to the rumored 2010 cruises.
It was for 12 days and that is what the DCL one looks like. For the 4 of us cruise only in mid July 2009 it was $7516 in a oceanview and around $9500 for a Balcony (D1). Now.... I am guessing DCL will be substantially above that and you add air, transfers and excursions and you will easily hit $20,000.
As much as I want to go I have a mental limit of $18,000. For some reason above that and I freak. As much as I want to do this I am not sure it would be worth it on DCL. I have cruised RCCL a few times and been very happy.
Hmmmm.... this will be interesting as Russia is one of my top places I want to go to.

We stayed at Heartbreak Hotel in August of 2006! LOL! :rotfl: 10ds LOVES Elvis (hence the reason that he goes by Elvis -- even his Dis screenname is Elvis!). The trip to Graceland was his belated 8th b-day present. His b-day is in Feb but, I told him it is too cold in Memphis in Feb for me! LOL!

Rumored is Northern Europe. Oslo, Norway; Copenhagen, Denmark; St. Petersburg, Russia. I know I am missing a lot but it will probably similar to the Jewel of the Seas cruise RCCL is doing now.
Not sure on the home port yet.

There is a huge thread on the main cruise board.

That one will be very difficult to not book for me. My major is Political Science with a concentration in International relations and my minor is Russian studies with the language. I was accepted into Naval OCS for Intel and Russian Linguistics but when the cold war ended and the Gulf War started those programs were put on hold and after waiting over a year I took an honorable discharge and got on with my life. Drives me insane too! And my DD obviously has yet to start asking just because she knows i'm going to ask her. ugh Maybe when she gets a big older I can get her to do this. LOL It's just so odd to me. I mean now I may not remember everyone's name when I only see them once amidst a ton of people like on this cruise- but I do ASK atleast. LOL and I certainly would remember the name of someone I spent a lot of time with- like she did with this "mystery girl" that I'm trying to find out her name and if her family is a DIS family. LOL

one more from #14...

Sil - I will be at DLH for a work convention the week of October 14. I can stop by Goofy's Kitchen if you want. Just let me know if you want me to stop by and leave your contact info or pictures or anything for her.

On the kids topic...We don't have kids, but really enjoyed all of the kids on board. People thought we were crazy for sailing with DCL on our honeymoon. We found that they kids helped add to the "magic" that we adults sometimes miss. We had dinner on PC night with lotsofboys and her family and learned all about the crayon tricks that our servers could do. The next night we told our servers that they needed to "perform" for us too, just because we didn't have kids at our table didn't mean they didn't need to do fun things for us!

Sure there were some kids that were out of control and not all parents were doing something about it, but I also didn't sit back and let the kids ruin my time. There were quite a few times where I spoke to kids about running in the halls, throwing things, screaming "for fun" in enclosed spaces, pressing all the buttons on an entire bank of elevators, etc. But not once did I get attitude from the kids. They typically apologized and stopped doing what they were doing.

I actually think that I saw more inappropriate and out of control behavior from adults that should have known better. :confused3 From stepping over a railing in the WD Theatre in the middle of a show, saving ROWS of seats in the theatre only to have their party not show up, to physically grabbing a woman and cursing loudly in front of children because they were unhappy - the things I saw from adults was by far more appaling than anything a child could have done. Adults should know better and kids are still learning. Just my two cents on the ST's and out of control kids stories that people have shared.

We had a great time, enjoyed meeting everyone that we did, and want to thank everyone for the congratulations, well wishes, and all the FE gifts! Thank you to all of you for helping to make this a real TOAL! We will never forget our honeymoon! :yay:

I think that the meltdown award goes to the little blonde boy who must have been 7 or so. He had a little sister with short, thinning blonde hair. One day I was in Shutters talking with Todd and another DISer [sorry I forget who, I only met you once] and behind me I could tell that something major had happened. It sounded like someone was being slaughtered. The looks on their faces told me not to turn around. Apparently the two kids did something to each other and it resulted in the worst meltdown that I have ever seen. When I did turn around the mother was carrying the boy out of Shutter's horizontally with all limbs flailing. People were getting out of the way to avoid connecting with one of them.

we witnessed that family too on numerous occassions. The parents had little regard for others around them and watching the way they interacted with the kids, it was easy to see why the kids acted the way they did. :sad1:

Also, they kept leaving them to the characters - who seemed very familiar with the kids - and monopolizing their time, but you could tell after some time they were hoping/looking for the parents to take them back.

I too never got this on MY door... nor did I even SEE it anywhere on the ship. Not that I was actively searching for it though.
Ya figure though.... with 192 cabins on the ship and 15 days that suggested this would have to change hands and doors 12.8 times a day (everyday) to reach everyone... and obviously it would have to change hands 6.4x a day to reach half of us.... and from what I figure ..... I see roughly 50 signatures on it ... so it actually changed hands /doors an average of 3.84 times a day. Which sounds pretty active to me considering it would always have to have waited an average of 6.25 hours between moving.... or if we adjust for an 8 hour period of inactivity allowing for a regular sleeping period... the gnome board then moved an average of once every 4 hours and 10 minutes! So... by extension... to have reaached HALF of our 192 cabins it would have to have moved once every 2 hours and 5 minutes .... and to reach everyone it would have to have moved once every 1 hour and 2.5 minutes.... in general.

So to short cut the affair... here's my siggy added after the fact. Anyone else so wishing to be added may consider editing in your siggy with a reposting. A virtual continuation here - if ya will - and NO, I'll not calculate the average siggy rate here on the thread.... < Wink >

Me too! You were like me and too busy watching Kaitlin to pay 100% attention. We were also at the back of the line so that is probably why we missed so much. I was so afraid one of my girls was going to get mixed up w/ another group and get lost.

Yes, that is one of the stops that makes sense in that itinerary and many other cruise lines have it on their itinerary. I was just posting what we know for sure based on the link that was provided for the Copenhagen port authority. It shows that the Magic will be in Copenhagen with either heading or coming in from Oslo Norway and going to or coming in from Germany. I don't read danish so I don't know what the headings meant

The other ports aren't showing the 2010 schedules yet

Now to convince DD that we should take this cruise for her sweet 16 in 2010 :rolleyes1

I definately picked it up ON the ship.... and only now have I apparently shaken it off. As for WHERE anyone might have picked it up... I think it could have been picked up anywhere and from nearly anyone. Once I overheard a passenger quipping .... " hey, go wash your hands... that's just plain nasty to be coughing like that and you're serving ice cream! ".... so yeah... a cast member serving Ice Cream in Topsiders was seen walking off to wash hands... but it's those serving ladles and spoons in the buffetts that can pass along germs to so many others. Hence the real need to sanitize hands before entering the buffett line.

Of course, I'm not saying anything any of us really need to know... right?

< wink >

Anyways... I got a few minutes before I run off to serve as a volunteer at J's schools' book fair. Last nite I caught a bargain showing of HELLBOY 2 and the GOLDEN ARMY. I heard it undersold a bit in the theaters ... however, it's a hip sci-fi fantasy - the type of thing that usually attracts my interest. And after viewing it I can see how some viewers might have panned it for a couple of potentially unexpected scenes ... the Barry Manilow music being possibly one of the unattractive elements. Otherwise ... it was fairly predicable - and technically well done otherwise.

Curious....

... I'm not sure we'd have a lot of interest in cruising the northern European route at this time. It almost never comes up in our travel conversations... however, that region is one part of the world we've not visited yet. So our interest may develope. Only thing though is whether our interest would rise to the general cost range for such a trip. We could do a lot of things all over the world for 15-20G ... and there really are a lot of other priorities on our travel list of places to go / things to do.

Aside from that, RCCL seems like a reliable cruise line to go with. However, as usual ... it would make a BIG difference which ship and port rotation one choose.

OK... back to my review of the postings I've missed (before I have to run).

Wow! I missed that! :confused3 Oh yeah, I was dodging the fruit ladies and the shaking maracas venders! :scared1:

Was anyone's headset working? :confused3 I kept hearing the female guide talking! LOL!

Did anyone see the stock photo picture of the Fruit Lady in Shutters? Had she known she was going to be a stock photo from Cartagena, I wonder how much she would have tried to charge for that one?

Our headsets worked, but I have to admit that I was so afraid of being left behind that I tried to stay close to the guide. If I couldn't hear him, I moved forward quickly.

Did anyone else's ear hurt from wearing those headsets?

:cool1: :rotfl2: Yes, little things in life make me happy. This one is so much more than our ancient model that had one dial with the minutes and a button to push to turn it on. This one has more dials than the washer...and a light comes on when you open the door! IDK why you would need this but it's neat. LOL! The drum is huge too!!! I can fit a comfortor in there easily. :cool1: The best part...noone else is in line for it. ;)

Someone told me that on the EB they called GS to find out about a washer/dryer that had an out of order sign on it on DCL paper. They found out that no order had been called in and someone was simply "reserving" it for their own use later on. OY! :sad2:

We saw the entire 6th floor laundry room closed one day with the standard DCL sign "Being refurbished for your future enjoyment" or something similar. We joked that someone could reserve the entire room if they did that. Looks like someone tried it on a smaller scale.

We got up one morning at 4:30 a.m. to do our laundry and had all 6 washing machines to ourselves!!! When we started, there were still clothes in a couple of the dryers, but by the time we got done we had all the dryers as well. That turned out to be very helpful as it took two turns in the dryer to get everything completely dry. By the time we wrapped up, the laundry room was packed!!

Ours was an issue of strength of signal. If we were very close to him we could hear him (in stereo) but if we were not right next to him we got another group that had a closer leader.

That was so annoying!

Us, too. We even had other passengers comment. Since our doors were visable as you exited the aft elevators on 8, they were like a landmark. We had people tell us that with the signs gone, they didn't know which way to turn when they got off!
:rotfl: :rotfl:

I had a Tiki door near the midship elevators on deck 2. Man did that help with knowing which way to go down the hall. DD kept laughing at me that I kept going the wrong way!

We pirates commendeered a DCL bus so we could all be together. Had a great time but all the buses went to the same place at basically the same time so it was kinda crowded and chaotic.

There was some building close to the infamous Hard Rock cafe that was named after someone that had 10 names and one of them happened to be Miranda so I pushed Miranda in front of the building to take her picture. :)

This tells me that both of you weren't listening at our FIRST stop when he told us what channel to set it to! :rotfl2: The lady was on the other channel. ;)

we witnessed that family too on numerous occassions.

Welcome back and it is good to hear you all had a great cruise. Chatty Cheryl told me all about the good and the bad and it sounds like the good far outweighed the bad.

Another birdie told me that the piratezone had disappeared, which was news to me, but then I hadn't gone out there in a while. So I looked into it. One of my credit cards was 'compromised' in August and since it was one I had not used in over a year, I just cancelled it. Turns out, that was the one the piratezone had been registered with and when the registration expired on September 1, the provider closed the account.

Anyway, since I think most of what it was being used for was chat, if you want to chat, you can use the same interface over my website at the following URL.

... I was surprised to find folks saying this same cough was making it's rounds back home on our return too! Oh well... it's back to school nite tonite... and trash day tomorrow ... so I have to finish pick up of the trash around here before we head off to school to formally meet the new teachers in our daughters' 2/3 class.

Anyone have an opinion as to if it's a good thing (or not to have your kid in a combination 2 + 3 grade class? I used to think it might be good to expose her to 3rd grade work / students ... then again, if it were my child in 3rd grade mixed with little kids ... would the opposite hold true that my 3rd grader is slowed down with 2nd graders mixing with my child? It's a case of the "glass being viewed as half full or half empty". What are the most meaningful factors in play here? I'll compare notes when I return as I'm sure our teachers will have a "pat" answer to these sort of questions.

Cheers to all, from

The pile of work on my desk was not too bad, which was a nice surprise.

No need to apologize JR!

We appreciate all that you've done for the group!

Charging for a picture like that is very common in a lot of countries. If you see a guy with a donkey, iguana, monkeys...or in this case, the fruit lady....then you know they're going to want you to pay to take their picture. That's why I have so many pictures of the donkey, monkey, iguana, fruit people's BACKS.
I just wait til they turn around! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Well..we made it home!  Almost 3000 miles later and we have arrived..I am exhausted! All of the suitecases are on the floor except the ones that came home with Richard..he has already put the clothes away.

I will have to check to make sure everything made it unbroken. I am just so happy to be home! I have a meeting in an hour so the unpacking will have to wait..I have another meeting in 5 hours so I think i am taking tomorrow off and getting this back to normal around here.

glad you made it home safe and sound!
Wow your DH already put the clothes away? That man is a keeper!
Hope nothing is broken and fret not if you don't unpack for awhile... I just TODAY got the luggage unpacked- but that doesn't mean every single item is put where it belongs..... yet. LOL

Well, we have survived the first day back to work for DH and I and school for DD10 and DS15. The ground has finally stopped rolling so much, unless I get up or move really fast. The pile of work on my desk was not too bad, which was a nice surprise. The girls loved the pictures (shutters only so far), especially the one with DS and DSGF engagement pic's from the first night.

I saw this a bit ago and found the drydock pictures absolutely fascinating, so I thought I'd post it.

Emaciated horses? :( :(

Yes DD was one of the tallest younger ST's on-board. (Well maybe Doreen's son was the same height or a little taller.)

I hadn't had time to see if that was her (as she ran off to bed before i remembered to ask.) It seems 5am comes pretty early around here. (That's when DD has to get up as her bus comes at just after 6:30) Heck I'm not even up that early.

http://wendyusuallywanders.files.wordpress.com/2008/06/cough.jpg

yeah...

Tom

Tom, both my kids wound up in this type of mixed class and we were less than thrilled with them:sad2:
Regardless of whether the child was in the older half or the younger half of the class, the teacher was stressed trying to teach 2 different curriculums. My DD had a very good teacher and didn't really suffer, but my DS had a teacher that wasn't really great and his class did:rolleyes1

I swore after watching my DD's teacher (who was a model of organization and hard work) rush back and forth between the groups that I wouldn't let my kids be in another mixed grade class again. I didn't need to worry because they did away with them at their school after trying for a few years and having many complaints:confused3

It isn't the end of the world if your DDs end up in one, you'll get a mixture of teachers over the years. Some great, some very good and some ok:teacher:

Sorry I haven't posted, I came down with a cold the day we got off the ship, then as it was clearing up last week, I suddenly lost the hearing in my right ear. Finally cleared up today, but it's been annyoing enough that I didn't feel like doing too much. Also had to deal with submitting 4 insurance claims for our escape out of Aruba. Three for trip interruption and one for medical expenses. Plus, I've been signing my life to DVC. We started the process quickly before we got off the ship in Aruba, so we had a lot to go over with our guide once our paperwork arrived after the ship got home.

Yes, mom's doing ok, thanks for asking. We flew from Aruba to Charlotte to Boston and got in around 1am. Spent the night at my brother's in Lowell then drove straight to mom's doctor in Maine the next morning. A quick exam by her PCP to confirm what the doctors suspected on the ship, straight to the hospital for treatment, then finally home around 6 hours later. Mom's doing fine now and has a follow up visit/test next Wednesday to make sure everything's progressing as expected.

We didn't participate in the FE exchange, but I do know that the rubber chickens came from Maine Jennifer.

I am also hoping everything is okay with her mom.

I was only going to do it for last year (her private school had serious issues..principal smoking around students...principal arrested after a car accident and charge with DUI...DD teacher-2-be deciding that certain subject were going to be "self-taught") so she was on a wait list for another private school but never got in to the school..still on the wait list. I decided to home school her another year..she is doing really well...we almost have to learn together on some of the stuff tho..I don't remember all of it!

From what I've heard, kids do better academically when they are homeschooled:confused3
It takes a lot of work, the right financial circumstances and a special kind of parent to do it though;)
My Mom was a teacher and used to take us out of school every year for a month so we could travel with my Dad. We always came back ahead of the rest of the class.

Pirates and Wenches:

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Thank you so much JR. I was going through withdrawl on Friday!!

Yup, I'm the chicken lady. My best friend and I had these in high school, though I'm not sure why. We just loved them and when I saw them, I thought, why not. Rubber chickens are just plain funny and I like to make people laugh. Glad you all liked them. I witnessed the real dead chickens in Acapulco and thought it was hilarious!!

Cheers!

Jennifer

Charging for a picture like that is very common in a lot of countries. If you see a guy with a donkey, iguana, monkeys...or in this case, the fruit lady....then you know they're going to want you to pay to take their picture. That's why I have so many pictures of the donkey, monkey, iguana, fruit people's BACKS.
I just wait til they turn around! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Sloth cost me $6.

ooooh chat.... Thanks JR

Well first day of "work" went good. Much quieter than my previous job and only 7hrs. Better than nothing for the next 2 weeks.

I rode my "steel horse" in. (ok maybe my scooter is more like a steel little mexican horse but no TICKS)

Hi K. Glad work went well.
2 questions -
1) Is that a 1/2 eaten corndog in your avatar?
B) Why?

The guy with the sloth at La Popa popped it right into DD's arms and told me to take a picture. I was about to when DH explained we would have to pay him the picture:rolleyes:
I was so surprised, it was our first stop and I wasn't prepared for the intensity of the selling (yes I feel foolish now).
In retrospect I wish I had paid for a pic, but I think DH was pushing for us to leave and I was a bit flustered.

Same thing happened to my son at LaPopa - DH told DS not to stop and keep walking. He did but all of a sudden he had the sloth on him. I have a great pic of it - his face says it all. Since it was on him I went ahead and took a "better" one since he was still upset. Dh was very frustrated with this - but he got over it. We had alrady paid to get a pic with a parrot in PV.

I forgot to ask, how old is Devon?

My DH was so stressed out by the sellers in Cartagena. He and my DD would walk near me to keep me from looking too closely at anybody or anything for sale :rolleyes1
I couldn't help it, I found everything fascinating:confused3

Jeanne

I got in trouble with the man with the sloth...earlier in the day we saw a different one and he wanted $1 for a picture..DD did not want a picture...so later we saw another man with a sloth and she said she wanted a picture by him by did not want to hold the sloth...so I said no problem..we told the gentleman what we wanted and took the picture..I tried to give him $2 for being so nice about holding onto the sloth near Tori..he got angry and said it was $5! :scared1: I felt bad but seriously only had $3 on me..we didn't take much in with us and only bought a couple of things..he tossed my money back at me and said $5 again..I told him I only had $3 and tried to give it to him...I thought he was going to throw the sloth at me :confused3 He finally took the $3 and I felt bad and it was my fault not to check first but I really thought it was only $1 or $2 as everyone else that day had been only a couple of dollars.....so...no more pictures for us! I practically ran to the bus.

Oh my goodness, I'm so sorry you and your poor daughter had to experience this! :sad2:

Nope...we never even got near the place. We finished with the one museum at 1:30 and it was already closed. I was told by others that we didn't really miss anything.

Both kids said that the people in Cartagena scared them. They loved the city though and like the fact that we were on a new continent. :) We found that the venders did NOT want to bargain at all. One told me $45 for 4 screen printed shirts, 2 kid sized. I said $25. He said 45 so I said no and walked away. We looked in every shop on the way back to the bus and he kept following us lowering the price by $1 each time. I stuck to 25 and he was only down to 35 when I got on the bus and said we didn't need any more T-****s. The only thing we got in Cartegena was a card with their coins, 2 braclets and a little magnet.
