hotel in santa monica near lax

After hearing so many nightmare stories about LAX, I am considering staying at a hotel closer to the airport instead of spending the last night in Disneyland. Anyone have a suggestion of a good hotel near Santa Monica and will that be a short trip to LAX for a 12:40p flight?

Not in Santa Monica, but a few miles south of there and a bit closer to the airport.....Best Western Jamaica Bay Inn , Marina Del Rey.

Manhattan Beach is also a short short drive to LAX and has several hotels including Residence Inn, Hampton Inn etc.

We stayed at Shutters on the Beach. It was okay, overpriced. I heard that Loews has a nice hotel and more reasonable rates.

The Foghorn Harbor Inn is nice. And there is a Marriott,
Omni and Ritz-Carlton in Marina Del Rey.

If your sole purpose is to sleep near the airport, then I'd recommend not staying in SM. Try El Segundo or Manhattan Beach instead. Then you won't have a commute to lax. They're right there.

I like to stay at Marriot in Manhattan Beach or Courtyard near rosecrans & aviation. There's also another marriot motel with kitchen type place there too. I've stayed in all 3. there all good for me. it just depends what I want to spend.

Several years ago we stayed at the Double Tree near LAX (i think maybe it's in el segundo but not sure). It was very nice and we got free freshly baked choc. chip cookies when we checked in!

Double Tree IS in El Segundo. :)

There are also Courtyard by Marriott, Residence Inn, and I think a Hampton Inn. Courtyard by Marriott & Hampton Inn are on Mariposa Ave, and Doubletree is nearby, on Continental, I think. Residence Inn is on El Segundo -- they all offer free shuttle to LAX, and are probably 5 minutes away.
