~~ IT IS ALMOST TIME, DOUBLE DIP DELIGHTERS!! ~~

Hello, fellow cruisers! You have arrived! You have found the "GO-TO" place with many resources you'll want to be familar with to stay in the loop and join in on the fun! Check back here on Page 1 from time-to-time as I'll keep updating Post 6 with new things and current stats.

I have volunteered to be the Cast Roll Call owner and the go-to person to for updates and additions to our cruisers list. Here's some good info on that as well as other items that will be of interest to many joining us on our Disney Double Dip Delight Cruise!

* Cast Roll Call List Submission *

At this time, I've included the following data fields in our cruise database, which will have some content uploaded to our own website:

DIS Name:
Real Name:
Fellow Passengers/Cabin Mates & ages of kids:
Celebrations (http://www.disdoubledip.com/forum/viewtopic.php?showtopic=57):
Dining Seating (Main or Late):
Stateroom:
Home Country/State/City:
Going to WDW prior to the Cruise?:
Friday Night Pre-Cruise Hotel Choice:
Doing a Back-to-Back cruise from 9/24-27?:
Doing a Back-to-Back cruise from 10/4-11?:

If you desire, please send any of the info above to DoubleDip09-2008@hotmail.com. Obviously no one would be obligated to provide all or any of this info, but if you already had it out there on our first thread, I've added it to the spreadsheet. If you have not yet posted any of this info about yourself and would like to do so, feel free to PM me with the scoop or see my signature block for the email addy to submit your info. I do want to make it clear that if you email me at the Hotmail account, your personal email addy will be kept private. It will not be posted to the website! As newbies join us, I'll get them added to the Cast Roll Call List and welcome them to our cruise so they know I captured what they submitted!

http://www.websmileys.com/sm/comp/comp25.gif Our Own DDD Website!

Update 9.19.08: Now that we are 7 days away from sailing and vacations are starting, we have locked down the website so no new users can be added to the website. We felt this was a necessary precaution since we cannot monitor who new users are to ensure they are truly a part of our group.

Brandie's (Fizzgig) DH, Jeremy, has graciously volunteered to create our own DIS Double Dip website!! Jeremy, Brandie, and I will work together to periodically get the updates onto the site. This website contains some chat threads related to specific topics, a group and personal calendar, and so much more! You can also include pictures of yourself or your family in your profile (as the avatar) so we know who to run to in the Disney Cruise Terminal! So please sign up to get access to the site, and check it out!!

To establish an account on the website http://www.disdoubledip.com, at the home page you will see a portlet to allow you to log in. Just below the empty fields, there is a link where it says "Don't have an account yet? Sign up as a New User". Click on "New User", fill out the required fields, and it will send an email to the site administrator and automatically email you back. Go into the email that you received (you may need to check your Junk/Spam Folder for it), and select the link within the message to activate your account. Our webmasters will keep an eye on who's requesting an account as well.

princess: Kids' Meet Forum

Also on our DIS Double Dip website is a Kids' Meets Forum. It's a great way for the children to interact and make friends before meeting them in the cruise terminal or in the clubs!

As a precaution, the Kids' Area on DISDoubleDip.com has controlled access. In order to gain access to it, you must contact Brandie (Fizzgig) with the parents' username and the kiddo's username on the DISDoubleDip website. She and her DH will then get you and your child/children access to the Kids' Meet Thread.

Note that if you only have a single household email account, then that's the only username to get added to the Kids' Area Forum. So in that case, there will be no distinction between a kiddo's account and a parents' account for that family.

Rest assured that this forum will be watched *closely* for any inappropriate content. Either the parents or our webmasters (Jeremy and Brandie) will handle the inappropriate content. The "officer" of course will depend on what the situation entails.

Feel free to use them for your siggy, door magnets, or any other grand idea you have!

Logo Merchandise

Cafe Press (http://www.cafepress.com/) has many excellent goods that you can order on-line with our cruise logo. This includes postcards, t-shirts, mugs, messenger bags, thongs, hats, and so much more! Step-by-step directions are found in Post 2200 (http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=21041023&postcount=2200) in our first thread.
http://www.smileycollector.com/images/smiles/icescream.gif Double Dip Delight Customized Lanyards

09.14.08 UPDATE: See Erik's post (http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=27572326&postcount=870) regarding lanyards!!!

On the day of our cruise departure, many of you will receive your own Double Dip Delight customized lanyard and personalized name badge!

Thanks to our lanyard leaders, Erik (tig82174) and Hadley (NHDisneylover), their solicitations led nearly 300 of us to want to proudly wear our logo-inspired lanyard. So if you signed up for lanyards by the April 1 cut-off deadline, they have them waiting for you with your name on it!!

A big "Thank You" goes out to our lanyard team sponsors who have made it possible for us to receive our keepsakes for free. The following are the DISers who have funded this memento:

anewmac
AQW
Buckeye Gal
deb123453
FinallyBoughtDVC
Hoagie Pie
ilovemangoes

LuvtheEars
MagicMe
NHDisneylover
pit303
rkandmjsmommy
Scoobypop
Scoutsmom99
Silversea
Tigger82174
VIKKIGZ
zweihund

If you are signed up to receive lanyards, be aware that these come with a simple plastic badge-holder sleeve that will hold the nametag and your KTTWC. If you like the large pouches like you see on some lanyards that holds things like a wad of cash or a folded up Navigator, you'll need to bring/buy this yourself.

Finally, "THANK YOU", Erik and Hadley (and their families), for all the time you've put into this special keepsake! They've already designed the lanyards, placed the order, and designed the nametags. In the coming months, they will continue their efforts by producing the removable name badges for us, stuffing them in the plastic sleeve, and organizing them by family(s)/friend traveling together.

http://bestsmileys.com/music2/19.gif '80s Party Night!

Well Disney can take away the 80's Party night, but they can't take the '80s groove out of the Double Dippers!

Get stoked! All you mall chicks, pull out your leg warmers, stirrup pants, shoulder pads, and big sweater. Then, dress yourself up with jelly bracelets, a banana clip, and 4" hoop earrings. For all the studs out there, find that back pocket comb, Ocean Pacific T-shirt, shades, and parachute pants. It's time to get ready to break dance!

On "One Hit Wonder" night (or it may now be called "Rock Star"), we Double Dip Delighters will be turning the Rockin' Bar D into an '80s club. Now don't have a cow if you forget to pack your Members Only jacket, Izod, or Jordache threads. Just join us at the Rockin' Bar D and party hardy! It's going to be a totally tubular event! Read what everyone is saying about it in the "Get-togethers on the Boat (http://www.disdoubledip.com/forum/index.php?forum=6)" Forum.

http://bestsmileys.com/eating1/10.gifGroup Palo Brunch

Many were interested in joining some of our DIS friends for brunch at Palo, so Julie ("skoi") graciously volunteered to request the big room in Palo for Monday, our first day at sea.

On August 26, Julie received confirmation that the people in our group who signed up with her early this year got the room!!! She has already contacted everyone who will be participating to tell them the great news!

RESERVATIONS ARE AT 10:30 AM ON MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 29!
http://www.clicksmilies.com/s1106/sport/sport-smiley-015.gifExcursions

Several of us have mentioned that we've taken some excursions off on our own that were not sponsored by DCL. Be sure to check out our website (http://www.disdoubledip.com) for some of those suggestions as well as posts on this thread.

Castaway Cay (Sunday 8:30 am - 2:30 pm & Friday 9:30 am - 5:00 pm)
The DCL site has all the excursions for Castaway Cay (http://disneycruise.disney.go.com/dcl/en_US/shoreEx/landing?name=CastawayCayExcursionsLandingPage) listed on their website.

It has been validated by those who could book at T-105 that the traditional offer by DCL for a second day discount of 75% (http://disneycruise.disney.go.com/dcl/en_US/reserve/specialOffers/detail?name=CastawayCayTwiceDetailPage) for the Double Dippers on equipment rental included in the Castaway Cay Getaway Package will be available to us as well. This discount only gets applied if you sign up for the package prior to sailing. So be on the lookout for our cruise to be included in the discount opportunity.

Grand Cayman (Tuesday, 7:45 am - 4:30 pm)

UPDATED on 06.11.2008: It's official that we are NOT going to Costa Maya.

Excurisions offered by DCL for Grand Cayman (http://disneycruise.disney.go.com/dcl/en_US/shoreEx/landing?name=GrandCaymanExcursionsLandingPage) are found at their website. As you plan your day, keep in mind that you have to tender to the island. This process takes from 15 - 30 minutes, depending on time of day and demand. At the drop-off point, there is a shopping market to walk around.

Cozumel (Wednesday, 8:00 am - 6:30 pm)
Excurisions offered by DCL for Cozumel (http://disneycruise.disney.go.com/dcl/en_US/ports/excursionListing?name=CozumelExcursionsLandingPage ) are found at their website.

For those of you who just want to get the most out of your GPS, Erica (zweihund) did some homework to find some hidden treasures at Castaway Cay (http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=22406145&postcount=3421) and Cozumel (http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=22406690&postcount=3422)!

http://www.iceweasel.net/wzl_guild/shipwreck/treasuremap.gifThe "Treasure Map"

Update 9.19.08: Stella has distributed the maps via personal email to everyone who contacted her to be noted on the maps. Stella...these are AWESOME! I'm so impressed! Thank you!!!!

Are you wondering if you have DISer neighbors (http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=25952580&postcount=3433) near your stateroom? Well, Stella (FinallyBoughtDVC) has kindly volunteered to put together deck plans showing where DISers are located, deck by deck!

If you would like to have your cabin noted on the "Treasure Map", please PM Stella with the following information:

Stateroom Number
DIS Name
Names of those in the cabin (if desired)
Ages (if desired)
E-mail address to which the map can be emailed

She will continue to compile the list until late August so it is as updated as possible. Then she'll email the list out to those who have opted to be listed on the Treasure Map.

http://www.vpsingles.com/pics/conga.gifDIS Meets

On embarkation day, we certainly want an opportunity to meet everyone live and in the flesh! So, we'll be meeting in the Promenade Lounge on Deck 3 starting at 3:00 pm on Saturday and will continue until we are summonsed to begin the Muster Drill at approximately 4:00.

Once the Muster Drill is over (approx 4:30), you have just enough time to return to your cabin to drop off your life vests so you can get you and your friends/family positioned in your desired location for the Sail Away Party, which begins around 5:00.

Denise (rkandmjsmommy) and Crissi (crissichef) will be making arrangements with Shutters once we board to get scheduled for a DIS Family Photo!! We really hope that you and your family will take the time out to come!!!! They will be shooting for 3:30 on Saturday, which will be during our Meets. If this is not possible, you should check a DIS Message Board found throughout the ship for the confirmed date, time, and location.

It would be wonderful if everyone who has purchased or made a DDD logo t-shirt would wear it in the picture. By no means is it a requirment, but it surely will make us look even more like a family! :-)

http://www.sscecu.com.au/images/snail_mail.gif Shipping a Package to the Magic

Our dear DIS friend, Shirley, has posted info on ALL the specifics (http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=19807195&postcount=1) around shipping a box (note that is singular...one box) per cabin to the ship.

I'll note the address here, but PLEASE make sure you check back to her post, which I've included a link for above and below, to ensure you adhere to all the lastest regulations. This includes the size and weight of the box, packing list, and more. Remember...you need more info on shipping a package than just the shipping address!!!

Address your package(s) to:

IDS
c/o Magic/Ground Services
<Guest Name / Stateroom #> (GTY, if you don't know what it is when you send the package)
9001 Marlin Street
Cape Canaveral, FL 32920

In the bottom left corner of the top of the package put the following information:ATTN: HOUSEKEEPING. Also note the Sailing Date, 9/27/2008, on the box.

Again, DON'T overlook reading Shirley's post (http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=19807195&postcount=1). You don't want to risk the package not being in your cabin when you arrive!!! To quickly find this particular section about shipping in her post, once her post is showing on your monitor, press "Ctrl+F" and search for "WHERE I CAN SHIP BOXES". That will immediately take you to where you want to go!

Walk or Run?

Need to burn some dessert calories? Do it with friends!!

There are several people who are interested in getting together in the mornings to walk or run as a group on Deck 4 or 10. You ARE on vacation, so there's no commitment or pressure to show up every day, yet more than likely, you can have a walking or runninig buddy and have an opportunity to spend time with your new friends if you do come.

Unofficial start time of the walkers is 7:45 am, but of course you can show up anytime you pull yourself out of bed and grab your coffee! The unofficial start time for the runners will be decided by the group soon, so check back. Feel free to chat about it on the DISDoubleDip (http://www.disdoubledip.com/forum/viewtopic.php?showtopic=613).

"Come See Us!"

For various reasons, the following families would love for you to stop by their cabin to see/sign/do something that's outside their cabin. So if you want to support them, for your convenience, here's the list in stateroom number order.

finally, don't forget that the special on 50% off the amount of the deposit for a future booking expires Wednesday, October 1!!

Whew, I was reading chapter 3 and couldn't figure out why I could not do the multiquote thing........then I saw Kimberly's post about asking for the thread to be closed!

Anyway - Good luck Charlie, we will be thinking about you. Hope everything goes well with your surgery!

Elliot's Mommy - Glad you are all safe.....I was wondering about you!

My screen name is kind of boring......I used to sell Pampered Chef so it is my name with chef after it. When I stopped selling, I kept it since I do love to cook and bake! Denise can vouch for that!

Everyone has been talking so fast that my last question was missed. I was hoping someone could tell me: Can we go straight to Rockin Bar D when they let us on the ship or is there a specific time to go there to make/change ressies?

Also, we have decided against bringing our laptop with us. We will have 4
3GB memory cards for our digital cameras though. If those all get full, I can go to Shutters and have them all put onto a CD correct? How much does it cost to do that?

ok...........so I was reading & multi-quoting over on chapter 3 when all of a sudden the quote buttons disappeared! Ack!! :scared1: What the??? So when I got to the end, I saw chapter 3 has offically been closed. Ah, that makes sense. So, let's test the memory.........

Chris:
Its the little things that count, right? Especially the white creamy mayo things. :)

Kimberly:
:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
I hadn't thought of my handle that way (Cyndi Lauper fan), but it does fit. I was known to sing along w/Cyndi back in the day. Still enjoy many of her tunes.......
if you're lost you can look & you will find me
time after time
if you fall I will catch you, I will be waiting
time after time
& then there's
But I see your true colors
shining through
I see your true colors
and that's why I love you
so don't be afraid to let them show
your true colors
true colors are beautiful
like a rainbow
Thanks for the 80s flash back! There are so many great songs out there from the 80s........<sigh>

Drea:
On Angel Food - love your comment!! Yep, its a very cool ministry that offers restaurant quality food to ANYONE who orders, pays & picks it up for a fantastic price (no qualification or anything). Really helps to stretch the food $$.

Charlie:
Good luck w/the surgery!! Hope the healing goes well. I second Kimberly's request that you post while you've got the 'good' meds on board. :thumbsup2

Elliott's Mommy:
Glad you're safe & sound. Hope all is back to normal soon. We lost power for days a few years back in a bad ice storm. Not fun at all. I can empathize w/you.

TVEPFOX:
I've been meaning to ask........do you work for a local Fox station or Fox News?

I stocked up on some supplies today in anticipation of Hannah's impending visit. Figure we can always use the stuff later if we don't need it after the storm. Erica: I got some pop-tarts, too! :goodvibes

I'm sure there was more stuff, but I've forgotten now...............time for a glass of wine! It helped me sleep better last night........or was it the ice cream right before bedtime? Perhaps it will do the same tonight.

Arin: I could be wrong ( I usually am :lmao: ) but I think Rockin D bar opens at 1:00 pm. but it wont hurt to go there and try once you board the ship. ( I cant remember what time we got there last year, but there wasnt a line at all for brunch.)

1st question The past two cruises we went right to Rockin D for Palo as soon as we were on board

2nd question I can't answer anyone else know the answer?

First - Charlie - I forgot to wish you well tomorrow! Here's hoping your hopping around by embarktion day :cool1:

Second - I think I found the answer to my own question regarding the cruise docs. I was speaking to my Mom to see if she had gotten anything and she said no. However, in the course of our conversation, she remembered back to June and realized that she received a separate packet for herself for her 4-day cruise. She was the third adult in a 3-adult room and she had her cruise docs sent directly to her. So with that, it looks like we got 1 out of 4 docs so that gives us...

 :sad1: :sad1: :sad1:

Hopefully tomorrow we can get happier!!!:thumbsup2

Hi everyone...

I am here on the new thread?? lol...is that what this is called? lol...remember I am a newbie. I am going to try my best and keep up and pay attention to what is going on from here on out. I may need a little help here and there so hang with me.

I did want to inform all of you that I my husband and I are so excited and looking forward to the cruise. For those of you who do not know our kids Brianna (10) and Trenton (6) are still as clueless as ever and have no idea they are about to embark on a trip of a lifetime. I know some of you have went numerous times but this is our one shot and it took a long time to get here! We chose to keep it quiet to obviously surprise them but also just in case something crazy happened with weather they wouldnt have anything to be disappointed about. The funny thing is that they ask almost every week if we are ever going to go on the disney cruise and they pray about it too.

I know we are in 1069 which I would assume is somewhere in the very lower end of the ship. My luck we are probably right by the noisiest part of the entire ship like where they drop anchor or something. I really do have the worst luck for some reason!

Anyway, its been great reading about everyone and all of your posts. I think we made the right decision choosing this cruise as everyone so far has been amazing and helpful to the clueless girl from Ohio! Thanks again to Buckeye Gal and all of you others for all of your guidance this far.

Hi. I looked for a report on your stateroom.......there wasn't one there, but there was a report for 1070. That one is right across the hall & so is in the same general area. I would think the comments about it being quiet would apply to your room also. Here's the link:

Catching up - Heather, I agree. I'm in my comfort zone with Unit Studies, too. Love 'em. I'm not a big Saxon fan, though - but all I've seen is their math. We use strictly ABeka for math. Now that the boys are older, we use mostly ABeka for everything.

Valerie - I'm so glad that you are all safe and sound. I hope you get power a lot sooner than they have indicated.

Charlie - praying for a good surgery and a quick, quick, quick recovery.

Kimberly - congrats on the docs. I still don't have mine. :(

Thank you for the info. I will definitely look into that. Yes, they have been praying that one day they will get to go...it is very sweet and I cannot even imagine their faces when we tell them. We have family in Florida picking us up at the airport in Orlando the day before we leave for the port so they will think even after we get down there that we are staying with family. They will not know until they drive us back to the airport to get on the bus that they are actually going! lol...

I agree with cyndifan...that's too sweet that they're praying for a trip of a lifetime. Obviously it worked because you and DH are able to go on your trip of a lifetime! You ABSOLUTELY have to tell us post-cruise how the surprise played out! I'm also anxious to hear how you present it to them! I've read several parents' reveal plans, and it just makes ya feel good and so excited for them! You have much more patience than I would to keep it a secret!

Rhonda beat me to it with a link to the Stateroom Repotrts! I'll just add that even though the Magic doesn't have a stateroom report on 1069, the Wonder does. In terms of location, it's exactly the same on the Magic. So you might also want to check out even more reports for that area of the ship. I quickly browsed a couple, and it sounds like your luck has changed!!

I believe you may have actually somewhat answered my question in a later post from this. I was going to inquire as to how you planned on springing this surprise to them. So they still won't know until you get back to the airport and board the DCL bus? That should be so exciting!! You must tell us how it all played out.

I am noticing that our kids must be of great ages to go on this trip as there seems to be alot of kids their ages which is so exciting for us. My husband and I may actually get some time together kid free! yay...

I promise to let everyone know how they reacted to everything. Our family down in Orlando is playing a huge role in helping us out with it too so its been one long 13 month time frame of keeping this secret. Our local family doesnt even know! A few years ago, with the help of my dad, my sister and I planned a 30th anniversary party for my mom (well, my sister and I had decided to throw a party and talked to my aunt who then talked to my dad who had ALREADY started to plan the party as a surprise for my mom and us so we kind of picked up where he left off) and it was so hard not to tell my mom about it! Screen names: My screen name doesn't mean anything. When we first got a computer I just thought of googles. Then I found the google seach site. People always ask if I did that because of the google site, but I didn't.

Another option is to buy the souvenir beer mug which will give you 22 ounces vs 16 ounces for beer.

However for pre-made mix drinks (slushies) you can also fill the mugs with.

6 free ounces!!!!

And at Rockin Bar D you used to be able to get mixed drinks of certain kinds by the PITCHER

Or if you really want to be cheap after day 1 all the people that got suckered into buying the souvenir glass(not mug) and decided they do not want will have them placed on trays in the hallways. You can just pick it up. When you goto the bar for health reasons they actually exchange the glass. (This is true with the mug as well. They exchange it)

I would have posted earlier but my sister needed to use the computer to do school work...oh well!

Elliott's_Mommy - I'm glad that you and your family are safe and sound! I was very worried about you during the hurricane.

Guess what my mom got me today? The new New Kids on the Block CD! I can't wait to listen to it!!!!

You have such a special Mom! Isn't it wonderful to be surrounded by all that love. Even though we are different generations, it's so nice that we have the same family values and that we each have such terrific Moms :cloud9:

Arin: I could be wrong ( I usually am :lmao: ) but I think Rockin D bar opens at 1:00 pm. but it wont hurt to go there and try once you board the ship. ( I cant remember what time we got there last year, but there wasnt a line at all for brunch.)

There will be this time. . . :rotfl2:
My Cruise Docs Came.

It is official.... No Upgrade

Bummer! But you could still be sleeping on deck 4 chairs? :confused3 :lmao:

Thank you for the info. I will definitely look into that. Yes, they have been praying that one day they will get to go...it is very sweet and I cannot even imagine their faces when we tell them. We have family in Florida picking us up at the airport in Orlando the day before we leave for the port so they will think even after we get down there that we are staying with family. They will not know until they drive us back to the airport to get on the bus that they are actually going! lol...

I wish I could be a fly on the wall when you tell them! I'm sure we will be able to tell at the sail away party who they are because they will be the ones with the biggest smiles on their faces!

VideoMan - I hope all goes well with your surgery!

Elliot's Mommy - I'm glad to hear you are OK! I hope they can restore power soon.

Grady had 2 teeth pulled today and they were HUGE!!! :scared1:

He did awsome and was even able to eat some dinner. He has an appointment to get 3 more pulled on the 18, but after seeing how big these 2 were I'm not sure I want to do that to him that close to the cruise. Doug and I decided we would wait and see how he feels in the morning to decide if we will cancel his appointment. Poor guy has such an overcrowding problem that he has to have the Orthodontist come check his teeth at every cleaning from now on.

I've got to go play Tooth Fairy tonight. That's the one thing I'm not very good at. I always forget and feel so bad in the morning. One time I got the giggles while I was trying to get his tooth and deposit the $. I almost got caught! I sat under his bed about 1/2 hour. The things we do!

Well - I'm going in, then I'm going to bed! Have a good evening everyone!

I forget who brought it up a day or so ago in chapter 3, but guess what we just saw?

A praying mantis! It was outside on the door when we let the dog out. I was able to count the abdominal segments. So, does 8 total segments mean its a girl or boy? There wasn't another one around to give a definite answer that way.........& no, we didn't bring it inside.
It moved off the door while I was trying to count, so I tried to pick it up & put it back. It promptly hissed at me & gave me the mantis stance. I thought it was going to bring out some martial moves for a moment there. :lmao:

You are so smart! I am going to do that..

That reminded me of the time I forgot to leave money for my sons tooth. I feel asleep. He came in my room crying saying the tooth fairy forgot about him. OMG.. I felt horrible! I ran in my room and grabbed the $2 I had and ran in his room. I told him too look around, it had to be somewhere.. I hid it under the bed a little and said look, you must have dropped it in the night..
Whewww, it worked.. lol

That's funny. It's like the text messaging. I have sent messages before trying to hurry and right as I hit send I notice the word it corrected is NOT the word I wanted.. oops.. it came out saying something like how many did you end up sleeping with instead of how many did you end up paying .. how did that happen, I have no idea! lol :confused3

Hey folks! there is no way I can keep up with everyone! I enjoy reading about the different screen names.

I use GammaRee on the DIS Boards and for family-type stuff. GammaRee combines a couple of things; our family has a scientific/techie blend and my given name is Marie. We called my mother Gram (as in just a little bit). I liked the term Gamma (sci-fi nut that I am). Adding the Ree to it was just fun.

My granddaughter calls me whatever comes out. My "adopted" grandkids call me Mis'ery, though I am not sad at all.:lmao:

So I've been waiting for my documents to come. Went out this afternoon to take DD shopping for shoes. What do I find when I get home. A note on our door from FedEx saying they had been and won't be coming back until Monday (it's Friday evening here). Arrrrgh  :sad2:. So hopefully I will be doing the document dance on Monday.

My screen name is pretty obvious - from New Zealand and am a mum (NZ spelling of mom).

I wanted to say a quick thank you to Kimberly and Rhonda for their kind words about Angel Food! I love the fact that I am blessed to be a SAH Mom and have the time to give to this Ministry! The stories I hear from families that order from us are incredible. I must say though that I could not do this alone and have a great group that is always around to help (including Rhonda, Bill and Emmie). September 27th is Distribution day and, well as you all know we won't be there! I'm not worried about it because I know those already signed up to help will take care of everything! I've even told them they can reach me by cell phone, but the reply is always - We'll be OK! Such a great group! :cheer2:

I went into Grady's room to play "Tooth Fairy" last night and left the $, but couldn't find his teeth! When I turned around to leave I stepped on something and it stuck to my foot. I didn't want to take the time to take it off because he was moving around and I needed to get out of his room, so I just left it. :lmao: I tell you, I'm just not good at this. :rotfl:

I always bring a tiny little squeeze bottle filled with dish soap. At hotels, I don't like to drink out of any glass anything unless it's washed first! We are going to make our way to the music store, because his violin teacher has approved his "graduation" from the foamalin (a little violin made out of foam that he learned proper hand placement, bow hold, etc.) to a REAL violin! Thanks for reminding me! I thought it was pretty funny that we saw one last night after all the conversation about it just a few days ago. & after I posted, I did a little digging on the net......females usually have 6 segments, males 8; females don't always bite off the males' head - seems to be more common in 'domestic' ones vs those in the wild. & yes, this one definitely had wings!

Jenn

Yeah....you must've missed the question of the week a while back was about travel tips......and several of us' tip was exactly that....buy a luggage scale. Jason and I have one and take it everywhere....and are compulsive about using it when we pack. I pack some stuff, close the suitcase....weigh it, see where I'm at and how much I can put in...and then open it back up and figure out what should go in next. :lmao: We've already got all our hanging garments and most our toiletries packed....and that bag is at 44lb....so I might still find a few small somethings to shove in there!!

We're working very hard to get all our toiletries and hanging stuff into our rolling garment bag, most of our clothes and costumes into our larger rolling suitcase, and then whatever is left try to get into a single duffle bag along with our castaway bag which will have our swim stuff and our Typhoon Lagoon mug. That way we can check the garment bag as mine, the suitcase as Jason's, I can carry our laptop and documents in my computer bag as a carry-on and Jason can carry the duffle as his carry-on. This way we minimize the amount of baggage charges we have to pay. Then once we arrive, we are going to check into our room (which won't be ready), leave our computer bag and the duffle at the bell desk, and head off to Typhoon Lagoon with our swim stuff for the day!

We always just use our scale at home. Ours is a digital scale that will "hold" the numbers for a few seconds after you step off the scale. So I can balance our bag on the scale, take it off, & check the weight real quick.

That wouldn't do much good for some of you shoppers, because coming HOME you wouldn't know if your bag was ok or not!

I can't imagine someone dragging their packed luggage to the gym...:lmao:

BC-Continental-Bag Fee,0134
Continental to charge $15 for first checked bag
Eds: APNewsNow.
HOUSTON (AP) - Continental Airlines Inc. will begin charging
some coach customers $15 for a first checked bag.
Continental announced the move Friday, matching rivals who
already charge for checking a single bag.
The move is effective immediately, the airline said.
Continental said the fee wouldn't apply to elite members of its
frequent-flier program, those in first- or business-class seats,
customers traveling on full-fare economy tickets, or military
personnel and their families traveling on official orders.
Shares of the company added 19 cents to $18.12 in morning
trading.

Here's (http://www.continental.com/web/en-US/content/travel/baggage/checkbag.aspx) the page on their website, because I find "effective immediately" to be a bit vague. This policy applies to tickets purchased today and later, for travel in October.

Hope that helps!

Straggling over to our new thread - late but here! :)

Someone (Heather?) asked about homeschooling on the cruise - I've got a 6½yo first grader and we're not doing anything formal. I'm totally stealing the "tell us where you're from" US map idea though! I was really hoping to find a high-quality map of the area that would allow us to use our GPS system to track the ship's progress, but a perfunctory search didn't turn one up and I don't have time right now to dig for just the right thing. We will bring our atlas so we can look up places we hear about, like countries where our servers are from and such. And we'll continue reading our current chapter books (the Boxcar Children series)... but other than that, NO SCHOOL on the trip! :thumbsup2

Four more garments sewn, now just 19 to go! WOOHOO! Thanks for the kudos and encouragement - these aren't fancy garments, mostly just elastic-waist shorts and matching appliqued tees. But still, as a novice seamstress I'm pretty darn proud of myself. (trying not to dislocate my elbow as I pat myself on the back!)

QOTW: My screen name is my initials (AQW). Yawn.

And my question for you all:

What are you doing today and/or this weekend that relates to the cruise?

I plan to do some more sewing, tie-dye some Mickey-head shirts, book our airport-to-port transportation, order pirate tees for the adults, and START MY PACKING LIST!

I have cheerleading practice all day on Saturday and Sunday....plus we did all our cruise stuff last weekend, really. We will go shopping ot buy a few little odds and ends we need (more razor blades, lip balm) and we'll probably put a bit more in suitcases....but most our cruise stuff is done until the 18th when i'll do laundry and actually finish off the packing.....and then also have to get the bird groomed and off to the bird sitter, etc.

The 11am advisory has Ike going into the Gulf of Mexico on the 5 day cone (outlook). This would spare CC a direct hit!!! Good news for our little island, bad news for the folks on the west coast of FL or in the Gulf, there's goes gas prices!!

Ike is moving at 16 mph, that's fast, but his wind speed is down in the 120's. Yesterday Ike was at 145. Big drop in one day. He'll slow a little around land.

Also, we have decided against bringing our laptop with us. We will have 4 3GB memory cards for our digital cameras though. If those all get full, I can go to Shutters and have them all put onto a CD correct? How much does it cost to do that?
I remember reading this.. yes you can Arin... dont have the price with me at this time.. sorry! Post on the main board Im sure they will Know!

I did want to inform all of you that I my husband and I are so excited and looking forward to the cruise. For those of you who do not know our kids Brianna (10) and Trenton (6) are still as clueless as ever and have no idea they are about to embark on a trip of a lifetime.
make sure to get a pic of their priceless faces... how awesome!

I know we are in 1069 which I would assume is somewhere in the very lower end of the ship. My luck we are probably right by the noisiest part of the entire ship like where they drop anchor or something.
Jenn
I had thought that too but after reading some room reports on here I realized it has its advantages (being the 1st one on and off port LOL) and doesnt seem like it will be too nosie! I HOPE! btw incase you missed it.. were neighbors! Im in 1071

They exchange it)
:rolleyes1 all im saying....

Bummer! But you could still be sleeping on deck 4 chairs? :confused3 :lmao:
he could still be sleeping on the deck chairs after a few too many out of the patron bottle LOL

Grady had 2 teeth pulled today and they were HUGE!!! :scared1:

I've got to go play Tooth Fairy tonight. That's the one thing I'm not very good at. I always forget and feel so bad in the morning. One time I got the giggles while I was trying to get his tooth and deposit the $. I almost got caught! I sat under his bed about 1/2 hour. The things we do!

Poor Grady! and Im horrible with the TF too LOL I always forget and have to run in there in the am. Worse is that my kids expect a lot of money now cuz when both of them lost there 1st tooth, they were at my parents and well you know how gma and gpa's are... $10 each.. thanks for setting the bar HIGH mom and dad LOL (they only get $5 from us now LOL)

Tiffany: Speaking of screen names, I just went thru ALL of my F/E gift bags to add room numbers to the labels  and I noticed that when I typed your label out, my auto spell check changed LuvthEars to LUTHERANS without me noticing :rotfl: :rotfl: So, I scribbled it out and wrote in the correct name :thumbsup2 I got a giggle out of that one, if I woudn't have caught it, you would have gotten a giggle instead :)

Even though I didn't ask my DBF the QOTW, I can pretty much answer it for him!

DBK1029 - DBK are his initials and 1029 is his birthday!

I got mine because one of my friends who I actually met when he was working at the Disney Store with me had his email address as TheDisneyMan so I decided to be TheDisneyGirl and add 02, which is the year I graduated from college.

As far as trip prep for the weekend, I'll be doing my FE gifts...well one of the FE gifts. I may have to give out IOUs to people because I don't think I'm going to get everything done in time. I'll give people my email address and have them email me with their address and I"ll send them the completed gift once it is done. Do you think that's ok?

We are supposed to get the effects of Hanna tomorrow and would you know we have a free day here at the science center? It's usually crazy! I don't want to imagine what it's going to be like in the rain too! :scared1:

working on FE gifts (still)

I would just bring a few blank CD-R or even better a blank DVD-R since you have 3 gig sticks.

I am sure someone would be able to burn it for you.

You should pat yourself on the back! That's a LOT of sewing to tackle. Sounds like you're plowing through it :)

Our weekend plans...going to a bday party for one of Reese's little friends tomorrow. Going to finish my cruise magnets & start making my packing list of "extra" cruise things. I always keep a packing list on the computer for clothing & toiletries, but the cruise vacations always require more fun stuff than normal trips (costumes, glow sticks, shoe rack thingies for the door, etc) so I need to actually SAVE the document as I type it so I don't have to recreate the wheel for the next cruise !!

Apparently the toilet in the staterooms are so strong you can put a piece of toilet paper in it and unravel it all the way to the other side of the room and flush and it will just get sucked up.

And my question for you all:

What are you doing today and/or this weekend that relates to the cruise?

I plan to sew pirate costumes, Megan's Sleeping Beauty dress, FE's and Pillow Cases. That is if Hanna doesn't knock out the power. If she does I will work on packing some (finished my packing list this week!), reading a book and playing board games with the kids.

Interesting.

Getting my formal dress and Lionel's sport coat altered - we're down to the wire! Speaking of wires, I am posting from Starbucks because our digital signal got interrupted at home. The possibility of a weekend without internet is kind of freaking me out. Which is kind of pathetic, considering Elliot's Mommy doesn't even have POWER!

Glad I finally found our new home.
Only 9 pages (plus 4 from the other thread) to catch up on.
What's wrong with you guys? Cat got your tongues? ;)

Everyone has been talking so fast that my last question was missed. I was hoping someone could tell me: Can we go straight to Rockin Bar D when they let us on the ship or is there a specific time to go there to make/change ressies?

That happens to me all the time! (getting overlooked). I always seem to post in the middle of other conversations! I know you've been basically answered but I'll clarify..on the Magic yes, you can go as soon as your board. It's on the Wonder that they don't start til later (1:00)

Now it's my turn. Does anyone know what times the Character Breakfasts are? I think I read somewhere that late seating starts at 9:15. That means that all of us (and there will be quite a few) who have that on Thursday will miss the group picture. If nobody knows I may have to ask on the main board, cause I personally don't want to miss the group shot, and this is something that will affect a large number of us.

No sending my box off and wishing it a good trip to get there in time.. yall think its enough time to send off?

Yep. You should be fine. Even if you send it ground transportation. According to the FAQ it just needs to arrive there by the Friday before at 5:00 PM.

I'm so sorry to hear about your frustration with Alex, Julie. Did you tell his doc about all the nurses on our cruise? I know they would all help you with the drain. I am just NOT going to ask how you know this.

What am I doing cruise related this weekend????
HOPEFULLY buying some ink for my printer so I can at least get started priniting my FE tags and magnets. I always forget and when I get to the store I have no idea which catridges to buy. I know I'm going to Michael's tomorrow so if there is anything last minute craft related I need, I'll grab it.
I think the luggage is coming down out of the attic this weekend too.
Other than that I doubt I'll get to anything else. Hopefully I'll get a few more magnet designs personalized. I only have about 4 or 5 done.

Kimberly post 1 looks great! You outdid yourself yet again!
(Oh and I don't know why you got your hand slapped about you-know-what. It may not be commonly talked about on the DCL board but on the Budget Board they are openly discussed and basically pimped out and paraded about.)

I got an email with a nice offer today. Two free adult MNSSHP tickets (select evenings only, with purchase of child admission). Florida Residents special. I had looked into doing it on 9/26 with everyone else but the values were all booked up. Not bothering with spending all of our drink money on the mods or deluxes (my quote was $176 for POR???What's up with that? That is *expensive*. Seriously, I stayed at the contemporary for $199 not too long ago) And Im not interested in staying off property.

PLUS that particular day (9/26) is also more expensive than a lot of the others ($55 as opposed to $48). Did all of the demand drive up the price?;)

The free admission offer *is* good on 10/4 but we have too much to do when we get back to spend another day.....darn.:sad1:

And from what I hear nasty ol' Uncle Ike is headed over for a visit.
Can you just feel my eyes rolling? Seriously. The grocery panic has already begun. And I am so over it.

Have a wonderful weekend! It's (almost for me) Friday!

Problem is, if he still has the drain, he can't go in the water or go to the beach, so we might be canceling the entire trip if his kidney stent has to be replaced. That would mean surgery the week before we cruise, and not enough time to be sure of enough recovery to remove the drain from his kidney to the "outside".

So it's not looking good at all, though I might send the other three with the grandparents. Meaning of course I'd have them flying alone from PHL to MCO. :scared1:

Random thoughts by Kimberly...

Charlie, how are those meds treating you?
Jen (nenner1), is Sarah legally squared away yet?
YouTube: I'm still at work, so I haven't been able to look at these yet, but I am anxious!
Our '80's Night: Okay...the question came up earlier this week about when is One Hit Wonder Night that we're crashing for the '80s scene. I've looked at Navigators from January and February, and don't see it listed. I also saw a Mexican Riveria Navigator from May, and it had a new Rockin' Bar D theme night. It was called "Rock Star". The description was "...new tribute to greatest singers, artists, bands, and concerts of all time." It was on Tuesday night. So........anyone want to make a call on when the dudes and chics are going to be strolling the Magic performing a "Beat it" dance?? Does anyone have any knowledge of OHWN still being in place back in April??
I'll add Post 101 as a link in Post 1 under the Shutters section later this weekend.
Chris, thanks for the MXK code for the resorts! Hopefully that will work out for me, too. I know I used a discount code when I reserved my room, but don't remember exactly how much it was (it's written at home), but I think it was close to what you quoted for the Values. I'll be checking that out as soon as I can get my hands on my ressie. Thanks so much for sharing that because it's helped some of us!!

Yeah ... somehow I didn't think I could count on you for that. :lmao:

I don't think I can trust Kimberly with it, either.

Okay. That temptation is just WRONG!! It's like needing so badly to itch that poison ivy on your arm. You just can't, but if you did, you know you would be sooooo happy. You keep looking at it (blog link)...and looking at it...and running away to do something else to get your mind off of it!

I will NOT look. I will NOT look! So don't anyone spoil the surprise by writing about it!! Hear me?!! :listen: :)

And my question for you all:

What are you doing today and/or this weekend that relates to the cruise?

Good luck with the sewing marathon!

This is another great question, which I certainly added as a link in Post #1. Plus, it gets me even more excited to hear about people getting luggage out or packing!!

I needed to print my Mousekeeping envelopes for my WDW stay this weekend. CHECK! I just did that.

What's left? All the stuff I've dreaded doing!

I haven't completed my pirate hat embellishment with maribu. I'm really hating this task. I spent way over an hour on Sunday only gluing the maribu on pipecleaners so it's easier to glue to the hat. I have about a 4" section that is nothing but a glue glob. Not sure I had enough extra to cut that out. So this may require another trip to JoAnn's. UGH!
Add rods to hang our fish extenders...yes. Plural. The girls wanted to have a different FE for each day!!
I might change the personalization of one of the FEs (it's really lame right now).
put my packing list on the outside of the box being shipped to the Magic and tape that puppy up
update my PassPorter book with agenda details
finish my autograph scrapbook pages
find some shorts that have come up missing
put the pile of misc stuff in the suitcase
get addicted The Weather Channel since TVEPFOX is likely not working over the weekend (Man, I live for seeing her hot-off-the-press updates and maps! Thanks again, M!)

Then....if I get all of that done, I'll consider that last minute project I talked about last week, which I SO badly want to do.

Post 600 for me.

Kittly Litter is real Crunchy

Oh my gosh. It's so funny you're talking about embarkation announcements! I literally have this as a packing list item! The girls don't know that they do this, so I want to have an index card written with something clever as well!

Chipotle? Oh YUM! I'm smelling it in my future (also with no mayo, but I might add the guacamole in honor of Chris).

Whew....I think I'm caught up with responses now. Of course that's until I do a "preview" here in 15 seconds and see that there were 5 more pages posted from the time I started writing this until I "preview"....here it goes....

Only five more posts.

Julie, as I mentioned in my PM, I'm feeling for you. I'm sure the other 3 kiddos would be fine. Thankfully your oldest DD is at an age that she can help occupy and take care of your youngest DD, & she's old enough to speak up to the flight attendants for any needs the three of them have. Let's just hope it doesn't come to that.

Okay. On that note, I want to go home! Off I go to work on some cruise project calling my name after dinner!!

Technically macaws are a species of parrot...all the hookbill birds including african greys, amazons, peyonies (sp?), eclectus, parakeets even...and all the macaw species are considered parrots.

And yes the wiki page is mostly right...nobles are also called red-shouldered macaws...for obvious reasons if you look at the picture. The only difference is that Noble Macaws and Hahn's macaw are actuallyNOT the same thing...they're two different types---subspecies of the same group supposedly. Hahn's are a little smaller than Noble.

And yes she's relatively young...she'll probably live at least 30 years....maybe longer.

No I had never seen one but I googled it to see a picture. That is a very colorful bird...little compared to my bird (and much cheaper, too). I'm almost embarrassed to admit how much Sarabi (our bird) cost or is worth....but she was definitely an investment....and is truly an important part of our family now....so we view it as money well spent-----and hey, there's worse things we could have done wiht it like gambled it away or invested it in Enron! :lmao: :lmao:

We even got Boma and Kona Cafe which are both pretty popular resort restaurants.

So call the dining reservation number and try to get reservations and there's still a fair chance you'll get what you're looking for.

For those of you who have cruised before, after talking to fellow cruisers beforehand: What is it like when you first actually MEET everybody in person for the first time? Is it awkward or just like "talking" on the boards? :confused3 :rolleyes1 I am really excited to meet everybody and I feel like we are all friends here, just wondering what others have experienced or what everyones expectations are. Basically, I am just bored and thinking about the cruise ;)

For those going to WDW first!
Your Countdown Date is: 09/20/08

Your Countdown Time is 0 years, 0 months and 14 days.

Your Countdown is also exactly 14 days.

Your Countdown is also approximately 336 hours.

Your Countdown is also approximately 20,160 minutes.

Your Countdown is also approximately 1,209,600 seconds.

Thought I would take a few minutes to brag about my countdown. Lois

I hope everyone in the path of Hanna and Ike stay safe.

Julie I am praying that Alex get the Pixie dust he needs and it just heals over night. Janet's mom had Cancer and had a drain put in after her surgery and it took longer than they expected before it could be removed. I hope that is all this is. I wish there was more we could do. I have been were you are; alone with two small kids, trying to move, and one child in the hospital. It isn't any fun. Lois

I keep having fantasies about someone near to me having an African Grey... as in, I get the good side of having a Grey without all of the cleanup and worry. :rotfl: Rosellas are pretty, too... Quite flamboyant, from the Wiki pictures. :)

Alex:

About DISMeets: I've been to two so far, and it really depends on the people who show up. I think we can all agree that we'll be hugging Kimberly's neck and thanking her for all the hard work she's put in (and been delighted to do, I know, Kimberly :) ), we'll all want to check on Alex and see how he's feeling, etc. I just want to point to the fact that we have 130 accounts on the DDD website, and I have a reason to talk to each of you :) , so I'm not listing everyone's name here!!! :rotfl: If I start, I'll never finish!!! :rotfl:

With me repeating a cruise with friends from my first cruise (no joke, they pressured me to move my reservation to go with them :rotfl: ), it was a bit like Christmas to see those friends again. I think it will be like that for me this time, too, with all the talking we've done on here and on the phones! :cool1:

I think I'll be going to two places--the Promenade at 3, and Deck 10 before the party to make sure I catch Erik, Jason, Hadley (and her family :cool1: ).

I'm pretty darn excited! :dance3: Beyond seeing you guys, I get to see my mom!!! The bad part is I have nothing left to buy except sunscreen, and I now have to track down all the stuff in my house I want to pack. Some rabid chinchilla in a tiara "unpacked" the partially packed suitcases last weekend. I had left things like sunscreen, walkie talkies, glow sticks, etc, in the suitcases downstairs in the basement.... Yeah... they're not there anymore. One of the suitcases is in her room on the top floor by her own doing. She walked that sucker up two flights of stairs without making a peep.

We have a 10 year old noble macaw....she has to have her wings clipped, nails and beak groomed regularly...and especially before she gets boarded.

I'm pretty sure we talked about this once before, but now I have to chime in again that I have a birdie too! We have a White-Eyed Conure which is about the same size as a Hahn's and actually looks VERY similar. The big difference is the beak. Macaws have that distinct macaw face, even when they are tiny - that white skin with black fuzzy stripes. So cute! Ours is green with white skin around the eyes with a smattering of red face feathers and red-tipped wings. He's a little older than yours, at 14.
Honestly, they aren't any more expensive than a pedigree dog, and they last three times as long! ;) It's crazy that my bird will outlive my dog, who is 3.

Erik - does your bird like to sit in your shirt too? I'll have to find the photo I have of him sticking out of the neck of Lionel's shirt, it's great! That's his favorite place to be.

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Guess it wouldn't be nice for me to say that I've updated my blog, huh?

Temptress! You're lucky I don't have internet at home right now. :upsidedow I'm on limited time here.....I asked Lionel this morning if he wanted breakfast at Panera, and he said sure! Then I said "well, bring the laptop then" :rotfl: HOPEFULLY it will be fixed today. The folks at Brighthouse say it's the feeder line for the neighborhood, which I think is pretty bad. :sad2:

That's quite all right - on my last DIS meeting, I people kept saying "I'm Susan" and "I'm Lisa" and I was like......ok, but I still have no idea who you are :rotfl: then I got home and was like "ooooooohhhhhhhhh!"
I'm a little quiet at first, until you get me going. Or give me a drink. Whatever is most appropriate, I guess ;) We are bringing some games so that should help break the ice a little bit. The Great Dalmuti! Works every time.

What else to do this weekend????

If you're in the States and leaving on or before September 20, today is the day you can submit a "Hold Mail" request with USPS (https://holdmail.usps.com/duns/HoldMail.jsp). For the rest of you, know you can do this exactly 2 weeks before the day you need it to start.

You are correct! Delighted is a perfect word, too. It's been a wonderful part of my vacation, and I'm thankful that you all accepted me! :grouphug: I seriously don't know what I'll do with my free time starting in October!

A tiara-topped chinchilla, huh? :rotfl2: That sneaky little critter!

What is it like when you first actually MEET everybody in person for the first time? Is it awkward or just like "talking" on the boards? :confused3 :rolleyes1 I am really excited to meet everybody and I feel like we are all friends here...

Believe it or not, I'm a BIG introvert! On Myers-Briggs test scoring, I'm like an 85% introvert! So it if weren't for meeting all of you guys here, I would probably be nothing more than a wallflower. Once I get to know people well, I open up. I typically better in smaller groups, too. I've been told I'm a very good listener and observer, so I guess that explains why in in larger groups I tend to let all the extraverts interact, and I walk away feeling very satisified. BTW, I am a hugger, so don't worry about getting in my space. :)

With all that said, I am SO anxious to see all of you and talk to you!! :goodvibes You've all really become a part of my friends & family as I talk about you guys I think every day to someone. My co-workers are even excited that I get to meet all of you in person soon!

I think Lois made a good point. "Can't wait for this 1st meet." Saturday will just be the beginning!! All the other random passings and mini group gatherings with the morning walks/runs, kid club drop-offs/pick-ups, adult beverage tastings, shared excursions, and our '80s night will have flood gates open!

Well, back to my scrapbook pages! I'm guessing the thread will be pretty slow today as we all have stuff to accomplish!

Catching up on a break in cheerleading/gymnastics practice today:

Dining & MNSSHP: I agree with the person who recommended counter service. Jason and I are on the dining plan while we're there and we are having a table service lunch that day in the mid afternoon....then going to our resort, swimming and playing a bit, getting into our costumes and heading over to meet Hadley and her bunch at MK for the MNSSHP. We'll eat a very fast counter service dinner that night. There's so much to do at the party----special fireworks, special parade that you have to get a great spot for and sit and wait, special shows, trick or treating, special photopass opportunities throughout the park (which mostly have long lines to wait)-----the last time we went we didn't really do any of the rides and attractions hardly we were doing all the special stuff....so I can't imagine having time to want to sit down for a longer dinner!:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

DIS Meets: It varies....Jason is very shy so he won't talk to anyone hardly. I'm actually shy in person at first but I'll open up....you'll find that there are certain people from the group you're already really connected to and you'll open right up to them and others will happen over time. It's like the first day of school all over again! :lmao: And whoever remarked about traveling with cruisemates again is right.....I didn't even know Sandi & her family, Hadley & her family, or Chris & Rob before we all "met" on the DISboards before last year's cruise and then met and gelled really well onboard the ship. And now look at us----we're all booked on this cruise together----and that was planned. Chris & Rob are booked (unintentionally but we're thrilled nonetheless) on the same cruise Jason and I are taking with my parents in May 2009 and we can't wait for that. Hadley's family has already booked their next cruise for late 2009 and Jason and I have already decided we're booking that trip aboard (in the hopes we can actually afford the time and money to take a second cruise in 2009 and be with them!...and maybe we can convince Sandi's family to join, too!!) So meeting people from the DIS who become lifelong friends is one of the big sells!

Birds---Sarabi does NOT like to be in anything....she needs to be out and open....she sits on our shoulders....in fact she really won't stand for being left in or on her cage when either Jason or I or home and she won't stand for being left alone in a room either. She must be with us and a part of the action at all times----she's spoiled ABSOLUTELY ROTTEN! :rotfl: As for African Greys.....I just want to say that they are a very over-rated bird. I grew up around parrots and my LEAST favorite bird we had was a grey....they're cute to visit and play with, but living with them is very challenging because they're loud, demanding, neurotic, etc. (Not that Sarabi isn't also all those things, though!:lmao: :lmao: )

Sarabi's probably a better name for a cat, though, since it's Simba's mother's name. Our bird got that name because I brought her home just a few weekends after I saw The Lion King on Broadway for the first time...and I really wanted her to have a name from the show.

When I am over there and they are in their room (yes, they have their own room ;) ) All you can hear is "bird talk" being SCREAMED from the room. One of them sings Jesus Loves Me This I Know :lmao:

Yeah exactly my point.....Greys seem cute with all the talking and mimicing of noises at first...in small doses....but when you live with one full time it gets SO grating!! :lmao: My mother's can mimic the sound of the phone ringing and then the answering machine picking up and then the beep and when it's being ignored (and anytime it is not the CENTER of attention----that constitutes being ignored) it SHREAKS "RING RING *pause* RING RING *pause* RING RING *pause* RING RING* RING RING *pause* RING RING *pause* CLICK WHIR BUZZ HELLO YOU'VE REACHED THE LIBEY HOME. WE'RE SORRY WE CAN'T COME TO THE PHONE BUT PLEASE LEAVE A MESSAGE WITH YOUR NAME, NUMBER AND THE TIME YOU CALLED AND WE'LL CALL YOU BACK AT OUR EARLIEST CONVENIENCE. HAVE A BLESSED DAY! !

From my teaching days (I guess?) I'm a big back rubber. Not the shoulder-massage-that's-innapropriate kind, but the flat-hand-on-your-back kind. Especially to babies & kids...when I say hi, I always kneel down and give a little touch on the back. Never thought about that...but I noticed it today at the birthday party we were at. Our friends just got home last week with an adopted baby from Guatamela, and she is really having a hard time with all the blonde people she sees! Isn't that funny? Even at 11 months, it bothers her that some people look so different than what she's seen her whole life. Anyway--when they came to the party today, I went to say hi to her and started to rub her back & she instantly dug into Mommy's chest. So if I rub YOUR back...it's my way of saying hello!

I don't think Reese is sick :dance3: One of the dads at the party was saying that Hurricane Gustav blew all the ragweed up here into overdrive (or maybe it blew the ragweed into our area from somewhere else?) and that people's allergies are off the charts. Reese's nose is running clear, so I'm guessing it's allergies because the timing would be right for that. So....no sick kids! Yay!!

For our friend's party, I had a few big projects to make for her gifts so my cruise planning was on temporary hold. Now that it's over, I can get back to THAT! I'm going through the house today & tomorrow to gather all the stuff we don't need every day & start a pile! Our house is on the market to sell, so my piles can't start too early. :rolleyes1

I ended up making tags for my FE gifts, so I"ll start putting those together.

Speaking of games....Reese LOVES to play Uno, Yatzee, & Mancala (all of which we're bringing). So if you see us in the Promenade Lounge (isn't that the place with the cushy chairs & little tables where they do the Mickey 2000 race?) feel free to join us in a game!

Do any of the homeschool families here read Home Education Magazine?

They always ask for reader submissions for the cover, and Reese is on the cover for the Sept/Oct issue!!!

I didn't even know they had accepted his picture to publish. Jeff called while we were on the way home from the party and said "Did you know Reese is on the cover of the HEM magazine?"

Reese earned himself $100 with that cover too....not bad!

so if you see a 6 year boy and 9 year old join your Uno game, they are probably my kids :lmao:

I also had submitted another about a year ago & they chose it in March I think...

That's some fun stuff for the Memory Box I tell 'ya! The look on his face when it comes in the mail is priceless. And I have the pictures ANYWAY from our blogs, so it takes just a second to zip them over to the magazine for submission.

Although I NEVER thought they would pick any of the pics I sent...and they've now used both. What fun!

Oh wow, Reese is a superstar! How cool!!! I will definitely have to submit some shots of Dexter for consideration - he would *love* to see himself in (or on!) a magazine. I just asked him if he has a particular photo he would like me to send, and he couldn't decide between these two:

Methinks I'll make note of their editorial needs and select something based on that instead. ;)

Dexter is definitely in for Uno and Yahtzee. We have mancala but don't know how to play - teach us??? :goodvibes

YES you should send your pictures! He is soooo adorable...what beautiful eyes he has.

We'd love to teach you Mancala. Actually, it's REALLY easy and Reese (who just turned 5) has grasped it already. Granted, his strategy is not really ANY strategy, and the game is much more challenging when played with another adult, but he does make some intentional choices in his moves and it's fun to watch his little brain work!

Ummm HELLO AM i GOING TO HAVE TO EVACUATE AGAIN THIS WEEK. My family and I are actually in debate mode now as to weither or not we should make campground reservations. *sigh* still no power at our house but my parents have it now which makes it a bit easier. DH and I just realized though that we don't have clothes for church tomorrow...goo thing our pastor will understand when we show up in shorts.

Nope still no power (but to clear the record I spent 5 days really stressed out about not being able to keep up here while evacuated :lmao:

Ok....I haven't been able to do anything cruise related this weekend. WE did get our documents and I guess its a good thing that all I really have left is to sew the sleeves into DH and my pirate costumes and pack. FE gifts need small final touchs and social cards need to be made (know what I want to do and will probably sit tonight and design them).

Anyway I'm off to put Elliott and DN in a bath then down to watch a movie. We took the niece off today so that the kids would stay calm and not drive my mom crazy like they did yesterday.

Going to bed ..... Kimberly, Val, and *Drea* .... stay away from my blog. :)
I figured since I'm not an adult (;) Not an *adult* cabin, then I could look!)
My opinion: :thumbsup2

For those of you who have cruised before, after talking to fellow cruisers beforehand: What is it like when you first actually MEET everybody in person for the first time? Is it awkward or just like "talking" on the boards? :confused3 :rolleyes1 I am really excited to meet everybody and I feel like we are all friends here, just wondering what others have experienced or what everyones expectations are. Basically, I am just bored and thinking about the cruise ;)

As you know on the threads I have a huge honkin' mouth. In person (at first) not so much. But once I get going, you'll be looking for a sock or something (cat has TP I'm sure) to stuff in and shut me up! And that's *before* I start drinking.

Oh and I'm terrible with faces *and* names. Just sayin'. And most of you who don't have a picture in your avatar or signature or on the other board or anywhere else I'm just letting you know I have a picture of each of you in my mind and you better look like what I imagine you do.

Thank goodness for the lanyards!

Yep, we plan to eat on the run and ENJOY the party thigns we cannot do at other times (well ,we have to ride Haunted Mansion for the halloween party--and maybe Buzz Lightyear to get our picture on it in costume, but no way are we wasting time to eat;) )

:woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: I am so totally excited now! Erik had NOT told me he and Jason booked this:rotfl2: I bet he thinks he did:upsidedow

Now the best news of the day.... THERE'S NOTHING ELSE OUT THERE in the Atlantic!!! Keep your fingers crossed, say your prayers, do what ever it takes and we'll hopefully have smooth seas!
Thank you for the update:goodvibes

:lmao: :lmao: princess: :lmao: I'm excited too B! But the gross mis-characterization of my most favorite-ist granddaughter has got to stop! Rabid chinchilla indeed! Well, it's funny you ask that...my boss always tells me that when I answer the phone at work, I talk to the person like I have known them my entire life. I guess I'm just an overly-friendly person...my sister and my mom are both like that too. I'll be the person talking to everyboday! LOL!!!

If you ever get a chance to watch this kid eat corn on the cob, you'll see how she got that nickname. She's a study in pint-size chaos theory.

We watched episodes of Firefly last night. Man, I -really- don't like Reavers. :scared1:

Corn on the cob...fun times! My DBF always says that I need a bib when I eat corn on the cob and everybody else needs ponchos! :scared1: I'll admit, I am messy and I don't mean to be, but it seems to happen every time I eat it. :)

Firefly...isn't that the show with the character named Inarra? If it is (I can never remember) my friend named her daughter (who is 4 months old) Inarra after that character! :)

Yay for Reese! That is so cool! We have homeschool programs at the science center where I work...I'll have to ask some of the regular parents if they read that magazine!

It was quite the wet day in PA. We have a Mickey rain measuring thingy (I can't remember the technical term right now...it's been a long day) measured 5 inches of rain! That's a lot for us! I don't even think we have 5 inches of snow at one time this past winter! It was rainy and windy thanks to Hanna.

So, it was a free day at the science center today. A political party rented out the science center for a kids expo so we were open for free for visitors and then there were community groups with tables set up all over the place. It's always a big event and today was no different...which the exception that it was POURING! People had to park far away because we have limited parking in our lot so everybody was coming in soaked. It was a nice day overall, even though it rained. :)

Glad to read everyone else is a little on the timid side at first meeting. I'm pretty shy until I get to know folks myself. SO I got my magnet situation all finished today. Went to E's work and he and the boys went and played Army.. err Marines LOL outside while I sat in his office and printed off all my magnets, maps, etc that I needed. Tried to do my tshirt transfers and almost BURNT the shop down LOL:rotfl2: I forgot the transfer paper was for INKJET printers and at his job its LASER so its much hotter, and basically melted the paper, the printer was SMOKEN! We cleaned that mess up. And called it a day lol. So Ill be doing my transfers next week when I go visit a friend borrowing her printer LOL.

AHHH but it feels so good to check that one off my list!

oh also tried to call and make ressies for dinner at a few places and ya all booked. GREAT! Being from LA and doing the LAND all the time we dont get crazy over places to eat LOL.. We grab some burgers and call it a day LOL so this is all new to me and kind of makes it even more frustrating now LOL... I was looking at doing table service IN the parks so we didnt have to leave... but there all booked so looks like ill have to find something outside of the parks and cross my fingers they have something. If NOT my dinning is really a waste:headache:

Oh and I'm terrible with faces *and* names. Just sayin'. And most of you who don't have a picture in your avatar or signature or on the other board or anywhere else I'm just letting you know I have a picture of each of you in my mind and you better look like what I imagine you do.

Good Morning everyone,
Now we have to worry about Ike now:scared1: Three weeks from today we will be heading for Castaway Cay:cool1:
Is the Magic at Dry Dock yet? It's still bummer we won't be the FIRST ones to sail her when she's done.

I did peek at the FE gifts, they are amazing, I LOVE LOVE LOVE THEM, so crafty!

Off to take kids to soccer pictures, then over to Crissi's house to do our MNSSHP shirts:banana:

I looked! They're awesome! As are all your other posted projects. I so envy "crafty" people!

I have not posted much on the boards, and I have a hard time keeping up w/all of you guys, but I have a favor to ask. I am going to talk to the schools this week about my kids being out for the cruise. In the past, they have been in private school, so there was no problem taking them out, but this year they are in public school, so there may be some resistance (or jealousy!) :lmao:

At any rate, I decided this morning to take a map of the U.S. to post on our door (6044), and as any of you guys pass by, please stop and mark on the map where you are from. As I said, I just came up with this idea morning, so I don't have it all worked out yet. I know not all of us are from the U.S., so I'll need to plan for that. When we get home, I'll let the kids take the map to school to prove the educational value of their trip. :thumbsup2

Thanks in advance for your help!

Hey guys...since nobody knew about the Character Breakfast situation I posted an inquiry on the main board.

It does seem as if the Character Breakfasts on Thursday will interfere with our DIS Photo Sitting. (this will happen on all our at-sea days so unfortunatley changing the day does not solve the problem).

I was informed that CB's the EARLY seating starts at 8:30...the LATE seating obviously follows that (9:45 or so). Palo brunch ressies start at 10:30, which will likely be before late seaters are out of the CB.

Unless we figure out exactly when both are happening and squeeze the picture right in between about 1/3 of us may not be able to make the photo shoot. Its difficult b/c the new CB format is a traditional one where the characters visit your table (not that Island Jam thing they used to have), so everyone may finish up at different time.

I know I for one am excited to do both so I hope this is a situation we can work out. Who was handling the picture? Denise and Rhonda???

Slap me up a little bit it if I am obsessing unneccesarily. ;)

Yep, she is on her way!
Some of the folks on the 5-night that just got done were saying that they were ripping up and installing new carpet before they had even gotten off the ship. They also said they had started on the splash areay by the Mickey Pool too!

Well, it's funny you ask that...my boss always tells me that when I answer the phone at work, I talk to the person like I have known them my entire life. I guess I'm just an overly-friendly person...my sister and my mom are both like that too. I'll be the person talking to everyboday! LOL!!!

I am horrible with names (unless I talk to you several times at which point it finally begins to sink in) and I'm not real good at just jumping in when in a crowd...that's why I'm sticking with Amy!!!!!!!!!!!:cool1:

I've been awol for a few weeks from the thread so I'm trying to catch up.

I've read the 1st post (of Chapter 4) to look for any new info - is there anything else that I might be missing that is critical that isn't on that first post? I figured I'd log back in and find out we're going to Costa Maya again or something.;)

Denise, I guess that's a good way to make lemonade with Hanna! Not to rub it in for those who had all the bad weather, but we had one of the absolutely best days of the summer yesterday. I think the high was 78F degrees, sunny, and a pleasant breeze.

Carol, Costa Maya? Well....I think the best response to that is "you never know"!! I think one critical piece is that you should be on the lookout for is to stay tuned for tropical storm and hurricane updates from TVEPFOX. She's our own personal meteorologist, reporter, and analyst....the BEST and only source, imo! She shares the advantage she has as being an Exec Producer for Fox by giving us news that is literally hot off the press. Hopefully she has threats on her on-staff meteorologists for him/her to make sure we have smooth sailing with no interruptions. So don't miss her postings! OH! One more thing. If you're in the market for a new camcorder, Videoman Charlie is our expert resource!

Knowing I'm no different than you guys, I just have to say I'm simply getting SO excited I can't stand it. Thirteen days before I depart, my ticker has the words "1 week" in it, nearly everyone's countdown is now in the TEENS, and we' all be together in 20 days drinking Konk Koolers and fighting for the hammocks in 21 days!!!! WOO HOO! I just couldn't resist playing the Travel Channel's DCL program this morning, so I'm watching/listening as I read the DISboards this morning! :goodvibes

I would like to say that I have STILL resisted looking, against all odds. No promises for today, though - we have internet again at home ;)

Hang with me, Erica! Great news that life can go on now that the internet is back up at home!

I know how talented Shell is, so I'm so excited to see what I can learn from her...again!!! She's wayyyyy too modest!

...I have not posted much on the boards, and I have a hard time keeping up w/all of you guys, but I have a favor to ask. ...

Great to see you again!! Did you guys have any challenges with Gustav?

I would be more than happy to stop by to help the kids. This has got me to thinking.........

There are a couple of you who have requested that we stop by your cabin to see and/or sign something. I want to note that in Post #1. I'm so afraid I'll forget someone, and I know others want to help you out, too. So, right now all I can specifically remember besides Nemontinksmom is Heather (CrazyZeus1) (well, there's my selfish scrapbook autograph signing, too). However, I'm really certain someone else has asked us to stop by. Was it Nette or ntheory? Someone else? Anyone else? Feel free to PM me or post here.

I have "Print Off Post #1" on my packing list, so I'll make sure to do that before I leave. Then I know I have various points of reference that I'll find handy during the cruise with me. If you also do this, just make sure you read to see if there's a link in Post #1 to something that you'll also want to take with you (e.g. FE lists or geocaching locations).

Whewwww ~ haven't looked at the posts since Thursday afternoon......you guys are such chatters.....

jjarv - We live in Lock Haven......north of you approx. 100 miles.

Went to Bryce's football game Thursday night.....he made his first tackle of the season:thumbsup2 I was yelling.....get him Bryce...get him, then he tackled the guy and another guy fell on top of him and I started shouting----get off of him....he's little....... My DH was mortified I said he was little...... It was a tie game (12-12) :-)

A woman in her early thirties came and sat down on the bleachers in front of us with her baby (around 18 mo.) looked at us and said excuse me...laid the boy down on the bleachers and proceeded to change his poopy diaper in front of everyone. I couldn't believe it!!!! It was all I could do to pull in my DHs reigns from saying something rude to her.

Maybe I am old school.....but this was over the top as far as I am concerned. What's wrong with people???

DH is officially retired as of Friday am ....... so another adventure in our life is about to begin......:dance3:

Hi! I think your map idea is a great one...I posted last week that we're doing one too! Great minds think alike...

I just printed off a map of the US, since trying to incorporate other countries (I know we have Canada & NZ...anywhere else?) was too hard with our map. We decided to focus on the 50 states since that's where the great majority of our friends would be from. I think I might put up a sheet that says something to the effect of "If you don't see your location, tell me where you're from!" and put a pen with it on the door. We'll see if I get THAT motivated!

When we get home, we plan to graph the number of stickers on each state with a bar graph.

As far as Mancala...it's somewhat like a board game. You have a "board" with little "pits" and you have stones that go into each "pit" The two players take turns dropping the stones into the "pits" and the goal is to capture the other player's stones, block their moves to capture yours, & end up with the most stones at the end of the game. If you google "Mancala" we found an online version you could play to help you learn. It's a fantastic game, & Reese just turned 5 and has learned how to play. It's even more fun to play with an older child or adult who uses strategy to win!

Went to Bryce's football game Thursday night.....he made his first tackle of the season:thumbsup2

Maybe I am old school.....but this was over the top as far as I am concerned. What's wrong with people???

DH is officially retired as of Friday am ....... so another adventure in our life is about to begin......:dance3:
:
*YAY for Bryce!
*I was always the kind that changed diapers in the car or the changing table in the bathroom. BUT...if there was no changing table nearby, maybe she felt like the bleachers were the cleanest place to lay baby down?
*YAY for retirement!!

Man am I ready for this cruise. I'm ready for sun, drinks, sleep, drinks, fun, drinks (ok..I'm starting to sound like Charlie). :rolleyes1
And ELECTRICITY! :wizard: Sorry you're still without....any word on when you'll get it back?

Hi ladies,
I have a friend who was on the lookout for a formal/semiformal dress for me. She purchased one at a thrift store for $4 (I paid her back) and it is very cute. The problem, it doesn't zip all the way to the top (for me). It is a size 10 and I normally wear an 8 or 10 so it must be made small especially in the top area. Anyone interested in buying it for $4 plus shipping to wherever, please contact me. It is solid black with black dots that blend in so it doesn't look very polka dot, about knee length and has a ribbon around it that is already sewn on and attached (not a tie yourself ribbon). It is very cute and I can send a picture via an email, just don't know how to post a picture here. I hate it doesn't fit me, but it might be a great deal for some of you ladies trying to buy per ebay.

Nope no word yet. DH and DF headed over to our house a little while ago to get my car. I'm hoping to get a call saying they won't be bringing the car back here because we have lights. The electric company is saying it could be up to 3 weeks........but if Ike comes through it will probably be much longer than that.

My New Orleans crew said they have power again. My best friend (HS teacher) said she has to pack a lunch for herself tomorrow, and there's only one grocery store open with limited supplies in her part of town. Evidently her school was later than others in terms of getting power, and the school still won't be serving lunch.

In terms of damage, they think minor water penetration of the roof and a bit of roof damage from a huge falling tree branch that is still up there. Overall, they're thankful, but getting prepared to evacuate again. If they have to evacuate for Ike, the school term will probably be extended for the year.
