Rachel gets her bandage changed on her IV on Tuesdays. Usually it is something that she dreads; since it sticks very tightly to her arm, it can really hurt as they peel it off, even with adhesive remover.

Today we opened up the pin book and talked about pins the whole time. She stroked a couple of pins she really loves, talked about who we could find that might be interested in certain pins, and when we could trade with someone again.

She did not cry out once during the whole bandage change...this is a truly amazing thing for her. So for all of you that have traded pins with me and helped to add to her collection....a HUGE thank you! They really are magic!!

Maybe I should take my pin book to the doctor's when he's drawing blood out of me.

Great Idea. How long does Rachel have to keep the IV?

Sharon, that's great, I'm so glad she had something like the pins to take her mind off of it :)

Daber...I think you should! Just don't drip on it!! She will be on IV for at least the next six months, but it could possibly stretch to years. The hardest things is that the PICC lines (that go in your arm) are not really made to last that long; usually people that are on long-term medication have a portacatch which goes in their chest under their skin. But, Rachel is too young for me to put her through that (it's more of a major surgery, plus every time they infuse you they have to go through your skin...and she is very scared of the needles) so we'll just hope the line holds up for as long as possible and get it replaced when necessary (they put her to sleep for that).

Suzanne...she's a typical girl!! She loves the Princesses (especially Snow White) with Belle and Ariel running a close second. My son gave her one of his pins to trade, and (with my help) she just traded it for a Beauty and the Beast pin. Every night she says to me "Let's look through the pins and see what we want to trade". I don't think she quite understands yet that people have to **want** your pin...lol!!

Sharon,

I was so sorry that I missed your first CT Pin Meet two weeks ago. I hope you and Rachel will be able to come to the next one on May 11th so I can meet this brave little girl.

Prayers and Pixie Dust!
