This is a link to the shopping available on Newbury Street, in Back Bay:

Does she have (or have access to) a car? There are several shopping centers within 30-60 minutes, and one of my favorite gifts for a new home is a gift card to The Container Store -- tons of organizational stuff that is cool and fun to set up house:

And she's only a short taxi ride from Macy's Downtown as well as the Cambridgeside Galleria: http://www.cambridgesidegalleria.com

The Prudential Center is right there and has a huge mall, I'm sure you could look it up online, but some stores/restaurants inside are:
Cheesecake Factory, Legal Seafood, JCrew, Gap, Saks5th Avenue, Lord & Taylor.

Also there's tons of places on Boylston and Newbury Street: Joe's American Bar & Grill, H & M, Express.

What a great aunt!!

Boston isn't a very large city - the Back Bay is just one section. Pretty much any of the major shops are there - and stores in the area run the range from Tiffany's and Neiman Marcus a few blocks away to Marshalls, TJ Maxx, and H&M a few blocks more downtown in the other direction. Food? Trader Joes is there and there are a bazillion restaurants. You could google Copley Place and/or Prudential Center for a list of the stores in each of these malls - both are in what is considered the Back Bay.

Good luck!
