Yippee!! Upgraded!

Received cruise docs for the May 23 sailing. We were upgraded from a Cat. 11 to an outside cabin on deck 5---#5014. Happy dance!

Any other kids on board this sailing? We will be celebrating our 20th anniversary with our 7 yr-old daughter.

We are on that cruise too booked as a cat 9 gty. I got my papers and we are on the lowest deck with dual portholes. I am praying for an upgrade at least to a bigger hole. This will be our first cruise so I really can't complain. At least my 2 boys will each have a porthole to look out of.

My sister & I had a Cat 11 GTY for the May 23 cruise so I was hoping we'd get an upgrade, but we didn't. We did get a handicap room which looks much bigger, so that's okay. We'll be looking for those lime green ribbons!

Does anyone know the hows and whys of cruise line upgrade decisions? We booked (and paid nearly in full) for our second cruise over a year prior. I was really hoping this would put us in the upgrade category, but according to our documents, no such luck. Anyone know upgrade details/secrets??

When did you book your cruise? I'm wondering if last minute cruisers get the upgrades? I've had my May 26 booked since Dec., had a Cat.11 gty, found out ship was full in the meantime, then got my papers last week with a Cat. 11 room. Not unhappy, I got what I'm paying for, but wondering how some get a big upgade.

I have no insight into the upgrade how-to's. There have been numerous and lengthy posts on this issue; from what I gather, there is no real pattern. We booked through Dreams, in Jan or Feb. Wish I could assist, but I think it's primarily luck.

Can't say, don't know, but....
I've read it depends on how full the ship is. If the cat. you've booked sells out, then someone else wants to book your cat . room, they can upgrade you rather than turn anyone away. We got lucky w/ an upgrade on RCCL. I would hope the early bookers get lucky rather than last minute cruisers ;)

From what I make of it, it's the later bookers. It seems the first to book can get a gty room, then once it's sold out and more people want to book, they're given the upgrade and the early bookers are assigned a room. I'm sure that's not always the case, but it seems to be in most instances. If I can see a pattern, I might wait longer to book next time.

We got a room change, I guess you could call it an upgrade since our original room was on deck 2, below all the nightlife!! Our new room is the same type (Cat. 11 instead of 12) but it is on deck 7. All I did was call to verify final payment and I asked about upgrades, and that is what they offered me. We are hoping that as it closer to our sail date we can get an even better upgrade. We are on the Dec. 1 Wonder.

Congratulations on that upgrade! We are sailing on May 23rd also. Besides my husband and I (celebrating our 15th wedding anniversary) there will be my DS 10, DD 12, and DD 14.

I kind of doubt an upgrade is coming our way as we are in a catagory 4, but I can still hope, right! This is our first cruise and I think we will have a great cruise, even if we would have to sleep in a hallway!!:p

That is the room we will have for the second time in Sept!!!!!!!

We went on a cruise in Feb. 2001 and enjoy room 5014 so much we booked the same room for Sept. 2002. It is great since it is on the same floor as the kids club (other side of the ship) and it is very centrally located and if you have rough weather, you are in the exact middle of the ship!
