Alright, I know Monorail expansion is almost certainly on indefinite hold for now but, here's a Washington Post article (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A31297-2002Apr22.html) about the new monorail in construction in Vegas.

May not translate readily to potential design, scope, environmental issues at WDW but the article does give some nice round dollar figures for total track distance and rough number of station stops. At least these are current, real (or at least real at mid-construction) numbers to add to the long gone discussion.

Actually, I've never been to Vegas, but this monorail sounds very interesting. I did see a picture of a monorail section that connectgs a few of the downtown casinos. It looked like the Disney monorails. The system that Las Vegas is putting in sounds like the monorail at the Orlando Airport. You can't get onto the train until it arrive. No possibility of falling on the tracks.

I love monorails!
Tina :)
PS: Monorail around the Christmas tree every year.

The monorail in Vegas is actually part of the old WDW monorail. I want to say they're the Mark IV models, but can't remember for sure (I think they use Mark V models at WDW today). I saw a picture of them not long ago and plan to ride one on my trip to Vegas this July. It's good to see Walt's vision of a mass transit monorail being implemented! It may have taken a while, but it's finally starting!

DL: Mark I- Mark III, WDW: Mark IV, DL & Tokyo: Mark V, WDW: Mark VI, Tokyo: Mark VII.

I may be slightly off on that timeline, but in any event WDW currently uses Mark VIs, and the Bally's/MGM monorail (which I think is going to be part of this new line) runs IIIs or IVs.

The existing trains in Las Vegas are Mark IV’s. MGM bought them used from Disney when WDW changed to the new trains. And yes, it is really, really strange to be Vegas and hear the familiar monorail horn blare.

The expanded LV system will use new driverless trains.

I am pretty sure they are currently using two MIV trains formerly used at WDW, and are planning to use upgraded MVI trains once the northward expansion is completed around 2004.
