I am planning a first time cruise for my family of 4 and have the following questions related to food and drink:
1. I have read here that soda is available free only with sit down meals. Does this mean if you decide to eat at a buffet or food counter (pizza, hotdogs, etc.) that you have to pay for your drink? What drinks are available and free at all times (coffee, tea, milk, icewater)? Is chocolate milk available?
2. How much are the refillable mugs for a 4-night cruise?
3. The cost of food is included in the cruise with some exceptions (Palo's has a $5 per person surcharge, food purchased while off the ship like on excursions). Does the lunch available at the Castaway Cay beach cost extra?
4. Has anyone else dealt with a picky eater on a Disney cruise? Can even they typically find enough to eat? One of my daughters is very picky.

Yes, all soft drinks are included at sit down meals in the dining rooms. If you opt to eat up on deck at the "fast food" places for pizza, hot dogs, etc, or you eat in the Buffet, there is fruit punch and I think lemonade available free of charge. It is located at the end of the buffet line.
Also on Deck 9 there is a 24 hour beverage station that has coffee, tea, delicious cold water, hot chocolate, hot water. Many people make iced tea there. You can brew your tea and add ice!!! Some people also brink powdered drink mixes and use the water there to make their own soft drinks. If you order soda from room service they will charge it to your KTTW card.
All alcohol is addition except at the Captain reception in the Atrium (it will be listed in the Navigator). They come around with compl. drinks, ususally whiskey sours and such.
If you are Castaway Club member you will be invited to a return cruises reception where there is also complimentary appetizers and cocktails.
There are several choices at the dining rooms, and if someone does not like what they ordered the wait staff will be more than happy to bring something else out.
The BBQ on CC is included in the cruise price...no additional cost. They have fruit punch and lemonade to drink as well. Also, they have a delicious fresh fruit buffet. There is also a bar to purchase alcoholic drinks.
All food purchased off the ship is at your own expense (except at CC).
Hope this answered some of your questions!!!

DD7 is a very picky eater but the kids menu suited her just fine. There were PB&J's, chicken fingers, and I don't rememer what else but typical kids food. Plus they have the Mickey ice cream bars!!!
Choc milk is available at dinner just ask the server. Milk is at the 24 hours bev station and at meals, again just ask the server.
Filtered water is also at the station.
As for Palo, the $5 is really a tip for the staff.

The Soda Mugs run $5 per day. On your 4 day cruise you will pay $20 for each mug. We bought one last year and shared. We will probably do the same this year.
I hope that got all of your questions answered. If not ask again.

Yes, I think all of my questions were answered. Thank you so much. I am so amazed and pleased that everyone takes the time to read and answer the questions of us novices; which must become repetitive.
