I did snorkeling for the first time at Castaway Cay. It wasn't pretty in the beginning, but by the end, I got the hang of it. With the breathing thing, in particular, just relax. Don't panic. That's what I was doing wrong. Keep your arms out front (or to your side) and kick your legs. Not one lesson. LOL. It worked for me.

Relax.

Just float and relax. Breathe normally and make sure that your snorkel is adjusted correctly. There is nothing worse than a snorkel being too far back, and you end up with a mouthful of water! When I first started snorkeling, I would try to breathe too fast! Good Luck!!!

If you have a good dive shop near, check into it. Often they will give a free pool session as a teaser to get dive certification. The first step is always learning the signals and the proper way to clear your mask and your snorkel and how not to damage your eardrums in a free dive. This freebie can be invaluable. Even a quick, cheap PADI certification, even not planning to scuba, will teach all the things you need to know. You are spending a fortune on the cruise, the investment may be worthwhile and you will feel much more comfortable in the water.
