Found you! Hope everyone is having a good labor day weekend. Things here continue to hum along. I'm supposed to have surgery on Tuesday but have developed a lovely cold/viral kind of thing. Been pumping zicam and OJ and water to get it to go away so I don't have to postpone.
Got to book the excursions for our Nov. 29 Western Caribbean last night. Got Palo brunch and dinner for the days we wanted, parasailing on CC, and we booked 2 excursions on GC and Cozumel (beach break and dolphin swim, respectively) that we may or may not keep. We know that on GC the beaches are pretty accessible and we love the beach in front of the westin so we may just go and plop our towels down on the sand there and then eat at their restaurant. Maybe they'll let us sneak in the pool if we buy lunch and drinks from em. In Coz, we may just go to Paradise beach and forgo the dolphin swim. It is remarkably more expensive than the one we just did in Cabo and it is a quite long (4 hour) excursion. We wanted to leave time to go to Paradise even if we did swim with the mammals but I doubt we'd want to do it after that much time. Decisions. Decisions.
Happy Labor Day!

Sat. the kids had friends over and we had a fire so they could make s'mores. Sunday we went canoeing and hung out with friends at their campsites until late. Yesterday we had Gwynne's best friend and her family over for a cookout. It was a fun weekend all around, just went too fast.

Some new upgrades to "our" ship.
http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1940549
Those TVs really needed to be upgraded - though I think we spend very little time in our stateroom anyway.... The toddler play area was long overdue (the Wonder has it I believe...). On our last cruise it was very hard to keep Keira out of the Mickey Pool and to restrict her to the one nasty "ear" reserved for those in swim diapers!! She just didn't "get it" so there were some tears, etc. We kept her occupied and out of the pools, but there were quite a few parents who didn't seem to give a hoot and let their kiddies roam free..... then the pool "police" came out and had to stand there and enforce the rules....
nikkistevej
09-03-2008, 03:29 PM
I know they needed the new pool area, for the little ones. As we were doing our cruise meet last September, they had roped off an area, where someone had left a "huge present" on the floor surrounding the pool, it was nasty, who would let that happen? They closed the pool down right after that.:scared1: :scared1:
We didn't spend too much time in our rooms either, but the new TV's will be nice!!

Wow,
I go away for a few days and you close the old thread AND get up to 5 pages on the new one! LOL!
Its nice to see everyone had a great weekend and the cute back to school photos. I receive the bad mommy award, I didn't get any photos of DS yet. He just started 3rd grade :scared1: I'll maybe try tomorrow...
We took an extended weekend trip down to Disneyland. Strangely familiar, but unfamiliar at the same time. (It is much closer to us than WDW, but we have spent more time at WDW than at DL). Finally on our last day, got to ride the new Toy Story Ride. Oh that is fun! So much fun. I hope they plan to take it to WDW too. Also saw the Aladdin theater production. It was great too. I'd watch that again. Took DD on The Matterhorn - think we may have scarred her for life. The ride itself is fun, but she is not into the theming! Only took 640 photos over the 6 days, so just a few of them to sort through! I'll get more next time, we plan to go back over winter break next year.
Have a good weekend everyone!

It was surprisingly fun. Having done WDW for the last few years, I was not expecting to enjoy myself as much (only 2 parks there you know ;) ) but we had a great time.
I think because we took our time, used fastpasses and early entry to the best advantage, we got a lot done. Didn't get dreamed though - nevermind, we had a great time without that!
Plus we can drive down :cool2:

Hi folks.
Recovering from my surgery on Tuesday. It was not fun but it went well so now it's just rest and relaxation (and good drugs) for a week or so and hopefully I'll be back as close to normal as I can get. They went ahead and did the procedure even though I had a cold and cough and I think it is definitely impacting the time it is taking me to feel better. Well it's only been 3 days, but I'm impatient.
Hope everyone here is ready for a good weekend. East Coasters, I hope that the hurricane doesn't have a big impact on any of you.

Jeff-Glad to Hear that your surgery went well:goodvibes
We are preparing for Hanna here on long island. the wind was really picking up today but the weather stations say that that worst of the storm is to come late tomorrow night into sunday. so we are preparing if there is a power outage tomorrow. but lets pray that that doesn't happen
School is awsome. i have very easy classes except one. Economics, to me, is very hard LOL

Impact here is that tomorrow's soccer games have already been cancelled.... calling for 5" of rain here along with winds of 45+ MPH... had to store all of our outside stuff, etc.
Glad to hear your surgery went well.

Wow,
I go away for a few days and you close the old thread AND get up to 5 pages on the new one!
-Kay
Kay-
Your trip sounds nice!
Don't feel too bad about the bad mommy award. I haven't taken any either, and we are going in to week 3 of school. DS started 3rd grade and DD started 1st.

Yep
Ive seen then mentioned so far. Well glad I was not planning in cruising in 2010. I will wait for Alaska in 2011 or later after our 2009 cruise.
Ed, Kristen and Harry (and anyone else close to NYC)
We are planning a trip to NYC for my daughter's 10th birthday. It's all that she wants as she has never been there. I know how to plan a trip for my wife and I but not with the kids (we also have a 4 year old). It started as her wanting to do the whole american girl thing but since her first asking for the trip she has pretty much lost interest in American Girl. Would like to see American Girl Place but doesn't want to do the tea or any of the other activities. She DOES want to go to Toys R Us in Times Square as I have told her about it many times. We are planning to buy advance seats for one show (her choice among Little Mermaid, Mary Poppins, Lion King and Wicked) and then try to score TIX booth for something else if possible.
We will likely do one "touristy" thing like the Statue of Liberty too.
What else should we be planning?
And re restaurants. I know where to go when it's just me and my wife as we have many favorite places but what about with kids.
We are likely staying at Jumeriah (the old Westin) Essex House on Central Park South.
I'm sure that once I hear some great ideas, I'll say, "of course..." but I'm just at a loss in planning.
Also, has Serendipity reopened? I heard they were closed down several months ago.
Thanks in advance to all who can help!

I've been following that for some time now, its amazing what you can find if you know where to look.
I am wondering about a 2010 itinerary - we have family in the UK and we are long overdue a trip back there - but I have to have some fun too! So wondering about a TA crossing or perhaps a cruise whilst over there. Certainly visits lots of the European countries that I have not visited!

Its still speculation, but someone found a scheduled port entries in Northern Europe for the Disney Magic for 2010. Seems highly likely.

I wonder if Disney would purposely plant fake cruise reservations of ports to throw people off track.
I wonder if Disney would purposely plant fake cruise reservations of ports to throw people off track.
I would guess that Disney has to book a port which will cost them money (and then the port authority enters the ship in its schedule & from there the PA put the information on their websites) but it would be soooo funny if Disney had!
We will find out in a month!

Hey thanks Kristin. We have to ask DD10 in such a way that she doesnt assume we are on for the trip because it depends on her behaviour whether she gets this great present (of course we are going to do it but she needs to think it can be canceled!) :rotfl: . But I will let you know. I'm angling for Little Mermaid but she has never seen Wicked and I think she wants to. Once I ask her later tonight, I'll send you a note.
BTW I just saw that Serendipity is reopened so that's good since we told her about the frozen hot chocolate 2 years ago and she has always wanted to do it. \

Hi guys,
Just thought I would check in here and see how everyone is. We have finally stopped umming and ahhing and committed to Florida next summer for definite. Flights booked, cruise nearly paid off (I am totally annoyed with myself though because I DIDN'T pay it off when the rate was around $2 to the £1 - I waited and ended up getting around $1.72 - not bad but not as good as it could have been!)
Just got $650 to pay off and then I will be waiting for the 90 day mark so we can book Palo \ Flounders \ Excursions etc...
Anyone got any plans of what they want to do Excursion wise? This is our first 7 nighter so never been to St Thomas or of course Tortola. Last time at Castaway Cay I did Parasailing but nothing else and I think we will just hang out on the beach and play with the kids on Castaway Cay but I am not at all sure what to go for at the other two ports.
Any suggestions for a family with 2 small DDs (will be 4 and 19 months) gratefully received

Not sure of St. Thomas- we did Coral World and Paradise Point tram on our last DCL in September, this time we might do Doubloon Sail and Snorkel, or just do a beach. We'll see.

I would like to do the Dolphin Discovery with DD1 but as we will have the little one also who will only be 19 months I think that may have to wait for another time.
I keep reading about the Baths on Virgin Gorda but will have to see what is on offer when DCL list their Tortola Excursions - I know we could do it on our own but while the kiddies are little easy and safe (in terms of not missing the boat!) are kind of appealing so we will probably stick with Disneys official excursions.
St Thomas is confusing me - there seem to be some nice options but then I read that everyone thinks St Thomas is lovely and then they see St John and wish they had spent the whole time there!!!

Good morning all!! I had a hectic day so far, Jordan not feeling well- sore throat issues, we gave her medicine and sent her to school, I couldn't reach the doctor until 9am, so we were both late, they couldn't get an appt until 12:15pm, so I just told them to make it for 4:45, so DH can take her. I don't want her to be sick for her birthday, we took cupcakes into school today, so I hope she feels better.
Oh Nikki,,
I hope Jordon feels better !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks Kristen, Steve took her to the doctor, he said she had tonsilitis- the earlier stages of it, I'm glad we caught quickly, he gave her amoxicillan(sp?), so she should be feeling better tomorrow. Plus we let her open her birthday presents tonight. She loved that. :goodvibes

Yes, I don't love that place either, but the kids really love it. Luckily they stamp the kids and adults so you don't have to worry about someone taking off with your kids in the midst of the chaos.

Hi everyone! :goodvibes Thank you for the birthday wishes for Hayden. I think he had a good birthday. At least I hope so!
I hope you are all doing well. It's been crazy around here. Early Sunday afternoon what was left of hurricane Ike made its way through this part of the country and we got nailed with high winds. Our power went out Sunday around 2:30 but we are so lucky because it came back on yesterday afternoon. Just about all of my co-workers are still without power and the power company said it could take up until this weekend to restore the 180,000 customers in the Dayton area still without. Cincinnati had almost 800,000 customers without power at the height of the storm. I think this is the first tropical storm we've ever had in Ohio. :lmao: Fortunately though, we didn't get the rain that has been pounding up north of us.
It was a gorgeous almost fall day here! I'm happy summer is just about over!

My Husband (Tim) and I will be sailing with our two sons. Timmy will be 13 on the cruise and Jacob will be 6 on the cruise. We are so excited to be sailing with you guys. We normally sail in the fall or spring, however Timmy starts high school next year, so it is getting harder to pull him out for vacations. We are so excited about going to Tortola. Hey all, I had to take Jordan to the doctor's, she has an infection, and was spiking a 103.7 fever for 2 days, and her throat was still hurting, and her gums were swollen. :scared1: He gave her a different antibiotic, so hopefully she will be feeling better now. :goodvibes

Kristen... here's something you might find of interest... I'm copying a bit of video which a DIS friend just posted from our PC EBREPO cruise of a month or so ago. I was co-host of a Mickey Ice Cream Bar Speed eating Challenge (this being the 3rd which I've run on DCL voyages)... it may be good for a few chuckles (click the link quoted below) and the lower portion of this posting was my reply to Arlene this fine early morning:

So what am I doing up at 3AM? Why ... I woke up and you know how SOMETIMES you're awakened in the middle of the nite by ... (let's just say ... it's "something"?)... So I walk over to check on the kids... than I walk over to check on where the dog is .... and he's where he is always is more or less each morning ... he's curled up asleep against the front door... good boy.... and then as I often do in circumstances like this... I have to check to make sure the FRIDGE is OK too. So since this last check has resulted in - lets' just say ... I now have ... a reason to be up a little longer ... and I find myself taking a moment to glance at the DIS threads which I track, while I snack ... and I stumble acorss THIS! I've not seen any footage like this before and I must say Arlene... on behalf of my Partners in Crime who co-hosted the event: Shelly, Tina + myself... THANK YOU for posting this. It's brought ME a whole mess of chuckling this fine early morning... so much so I think my cheek bones facial muscles are tender from the extreme grinnin' I've engaged in on account of replaying these clips!
Truly, from me/us to you... thank you for sharing this here. I had a tender throat (from the annoying coughing and sniffles) that day as some might have guessed ... and it seems to not be too obvious from how it sounds (to me). I could be wrong though.
At any rate... TTFN folks! I should try to get a little more rest b4 the sun rise begins.

Hello! I'm just dropping in to check you guys out. I am sailing with Kristin on the Oct. 11th, 2008 cruise and she is trying to recruit me for this one. I just e-mailed your TA Kristin. No definite plans yet, but I am checking it out. We will see what rates I'm offered. Also our Oct 11th group may be trying to some kind of reunion meet at WDW around about that time. You guys seem like a great group and whether I get to join or not, I hope you have the best trip ever.

HI,
I am sorry to hear about DD! I just to work in daycare and I even came down with this disease!:scared: At first I thought I was allergic to shellfish as I had eaten crab legs early that day. My fingertips were all red and painful. The next day, my toes felt the same way and I felt like I had chancre sores in my mouth. It was not fun. Needless to say they gave me Valtrex to take and it took quite some time to go away. The blisters were under my skin and took weeks to work themselves to the surface and heal. I had no spots on my body....just fingers, toes and gums. Has the doctor prescribed anything for her? I found Valtrex helped ease the symptoms. I was off work for a week or so as it is highly contageous. Hope she is better soon!

The doctor said to give her Benadryl for the itching, it did seem to help- as she hasn't been scratching. He said to call him tomorrow, and he wants to see her again. She won't eat though, and we are barely getting her to drink anything, I told her if she doesn't drink- she will have to go the hospital and get needles because she'll ger dehydrated. She is sleeping now, hopefully when she wakes up, she will eat or drink something.:scared1: :scared1:

He prescribed an antibiotic. The wierd thing is that the spots are all over her body:confused3 . , and everything I saw about hand, foot, and mouth is saying just those parts. :confused3 :confused3 When he sees her tomorrow, maybe he can figure out if it is something else. The spots weren't there when he saw her last.
