Just sitting here waiting for the rain to stop...we have tickets tonight for a minor league baseball game with our Cub Scout pack. It's kids eat free night so I didn't have anything planned for dinner. Their website is stating that the game is still on but I really don't want to go sit in a cold, wet stadium to get a free hotdog. My DH has a cold and he's sitting here wrapped in a blanket so I know he's really not feeling well. Hoping game gets a rain delay or cancelled so we can pick another night to go and not lose our $$.

We have some thunderstorms rolling on through tonight too! Sounds like you would have had a nice night out...hopefully it will be canceled due to rain so you can do it some other night.

Tell your DH to get well soon - I feel bad for him because today I woke up with a bad cold. My throat is horrible as well and I am trying to to drink a bunch of OJ and keep up on the medicine. Only 16 days until we leave and I plan on being well!

It's 7:45 pm here-game should have started at 7:05 pm, rain delay. We're still home (only live 10 minutes from stadium). Have friends that are sitting in stadium keeping us posted, right now 8:30 pm start. We packed up and headed into garage to find it starting to pour again...

Jim is hoping to be healthy for our trip. He used to always get sick when we traveled, including our honeymoon when he had the flu and I was trapped in our room with my new sick husband and tropical downpours outside at a couples only resort.

I guess I'll be watching Deadliest Catch in a few.

Ok, so I'm still on track to do a secret upgrade for the family when we check in.

I got the part that we need to get there early to checkin and head down to the supervisors desk. I also read on the main board that they usually have a laminated card that shows them CM what to charge from category to category for that cruise.

Here's my question - I read on the main board that it's allowed for one person to bring all the docs to check in even if the others are not present.

If this is true, assuming that one person comes early and the rest of the family trails along later, how does the rest of the family get in the terminal. Don't they have to have their documents?

Thoughts?

[QUOTE=jenanderson;32803094]Happy Tuesday Everyone!!!:wave2:

It is raining in Minnesota today - and that is GREAT! First, it means that I do not have to jog today!!!!! :cool1: Second, we needed rain horribly and the grass is finally getting the soaking it needs!

Here are some questions to help us think happy Disney thoughts for the day:

1. When you first get on board, where are you planning on eating lunch? We plan to eat at Parrot Cay, then off to the pools!

2. What do you do to pass time until the deck party and sail away time? this will be my SIL and family's first cruise ever - we're gonna explore...

3. If you have cruised before, what is one activity that you really recommend?this is from our DS - "Room service!"

4. Have you "studied" the navigator and already made plans for what you want to do on board? Are you kidding?! I printed out the old ones and highlighted them already...! That doesn't mean that times/schedules won't change but we have a pretty good idea of what we will look to do. Now, for those of you who have also "studied" them, has anyone discovered what night will have the chocolate dessert buffet???

5. At WDW, we try to do "Random Acts of Kindness" and give away fast passes to other families on our way out of the park. Are there random acts of kindness things that you can think of on the cruise?to me, those acts are what makes the trip so full of disney magic - total strangers going out of their way to make someone else's trip better. We try to 'pay it forward" at WDW but I don't know what opportunities will present themselves to do this on the cruise. We'll definitely try though....

Here is my question: how many celebrations do we have in our thread to celebrate on the cruise or in WDW?? We have several in our family:

11th: Sean's 43rd birthday
16: BIL's 40-something birthday
18: DN's 7th birthday
We're also going to try and celebrate Tess' upcoming 10th birthday on September 3!

...I have to keep reading the new posts!....:hippie:

Hi Jude,

Just wanted to make sure Tess received Amanda's email.:goodvibes

Kristin, what adorable dresses!!! and I had to laugh at "wicked" cute - I haven't heard anyone use that adjective in such a long time!! It was my college roommate's favorite saying!! (dating myself here. LOL)

We have our fingers crossed that the rain will finally go away by Thursday night. My Dad was asked to throw out the first pitch for our local minor league team, the ValleyCats. And what great timing - we are having a surprise 45th anniversary party for my parents on Saturday so the whole family should be in by Thursday night to go to the game.

Good Morning Everyone! We finally have the start of a sunny day today!!! I am hoping that means it will be warm too!!!!

Just to let you all know...when I updated the website today, I added a bit of fun for all the kids!!! If you go on the JUST FOR FUN page, I made a Disney Cruise word find that can be downloaded and printed out. Don't know if it is easy or hard...just thought it could be a bit of fun! :goodvibes

Feel better Jen!!

Thanks Kristin! Still have a major runny nose, stuffy head and scratchy throat! I am hoping that a couple of days of rest, juice and some medicine will take care of it all.

I'm sure that "uncle Andrew" or someone else has the right answer ...

We are non-US resident - and I know that Disney wants both of us to be there IN PERSON at check in .

Maybe  that US citizens can enter the terminal just showing ID and reservation # ?

OR  YOU could exit the terminal AFTER CHECK IN ... and go "collect" your family ...
We did exit the terminal ( after check in) two years ago - as we needed to meet a friend at the parking lot !

When you get to the port entrance, they will have a full list of everyone cruising, this is at the car park gates, the walk in entrance etc etc, now you are required to show Photo ID. I would have thought if you (all)have photo ID you would be ok, even if one has gone in before with the reservation stuff, now an idea print off an extra cruise confirmation of the internet and give that to the following party as ''insurance''

Hi Everyone,
We received devastating news on the weekend.:scared1:
One of our twins was diagnosed with a small brain tumor and is scheduled for surgery in the next couple of days.
If all goes well ( the doctors are quite optimistic ), there is a period of recovery of several weeks.
Obviously, we are going to have to cancel all our vacation plans including the Disney cruise that we dreamed of for so long.
Does anyone know if I can postpone the cruise with Disney or do I have to cancel and claim on my insurance ?
JEN: PM your address and I'll send you $$ for the lanyards, at least we can use them for a future trip.

To everyone, please :grouphug: give your loved ones a huge hug and be grateful for good health and , send us all the pixie dust and prayers you can spare.

HAVE A GREAT CRUISE....WISH WE WERE THERE ......

Tony, im so sorry to hear this.:sad1: i hope the surgery goes really well. my family and I are sending our thoughts and prayers to you and your family:hug:

Evening all. Busy here planning orders for our business as next weekend is the summer trade show for the Craft & Hobby industry. It is in Orlando and if I hadn't already had the cruise booked I would have gone and tagged it on to the beginning of our holiday. Instead we are making orders via the internet but I am much happier to be going on this cruise - but perhaps I will make it to Orlando to the trade show next summer! (A good excuse to go on a paid for trip and take in a few days at Disney while I am there!)

Izzys Trunki arrived yesterday. I ordered one for her as a belated birthday gift and she is going to love it. I am saving it as a surprise. Not sure if they made it over the atlantic yet - if not have a look here : www.trunki.co.uk very cute hand luggage sized suitcases for kids that double as a ride on toy with parent handle, perfect for small legs that get tired easily while trailing round the airport! Izzy has the tiger one - it matches her personality!

I just signed up to Twitter tonight. I have a lot of friends who are into it so I thought I would give it a try - let me know if any of you are on there too...

Right, off to bed in a minute. Tomorrow is Isabelles last ballet class of the term and the parents can watch, she is so excited and of course I will LOVE going to see her. They are only 3 and 4 years old in the class and it is all about the fun of dancing rather than real serious training but she enjoys it so much!

Here are some questions to help us think happy Disney thoughts for the day:

1. When you first get on board, where are you planning on eating lunch?
Parrot cay , always !!
Sometimes one of our previous servers comes up to greet us , lovely way to start our cruise !
2. What do you do to pass time until the deck party and sail away time?
Usually I try to set into our cabin / unpack ... while Marco :rotfl2: HELPS going out to explore or get fresh drinks for both of us ...

3. If you have cruised before, what is one activity that you really recommend? REEEEEEEEELAX !!!!FEEL THE MAGIC !!!!

4. Have you "studied" the navigator and already made plans for what you want to do on board?
Marco surely has studied a lot !!! ;) I just go with the flow ... HE knows what I like ... and gets me there on time !! :lovestruc
5. At WDW, we try to do "Random Acts of Kindness" and give away fast passes to other families on our way out of the park. Are there random acts of kindness things that you can think of on the cruise?
We often offer to take pics to families , so that THEY ALL can be together in the shot !! I personally like to exchange a smile / a greeting with ... perfect strangers !! it's such a magical place !!!

Mel, what do you sell?? I am totally craft challenged and love to see what others can do!!! My sister had the brilliant idea for me to help make the favors tonight for my parents party - when she saw my efforts, I was relegated to making the boxes to hold the favors!!! :rotfl2:

I made the mistake of saying "yes" when one of the guys at work asked me to join their lunch run today. OMG OMG OMG. Hills, hills and more hills. Every joint in my body aches right now. Never, ever again.

Hope everyone is feeling better - and will stay that way til it is cruise time!!!

Hi Jude, I run an online scrapbooking supplies store. Mainly scrapbooking stuff but with some card making too. This is a link to our online gallery of ideas. We have a design team who make stuff for the gallery which i am part of.

Jude -

I haven't run for 2 days! :scared1: First we had rain and now I have such a runny nose that I could not imagine how to blow and run at the same time!!!! I need to figure out how to get out again in the next day or two or I will be super sore again!!!

Hope all your party planning is going well!! Have fun with the family this week!

Jen

My running has suffered a bit in the last week. The weather has been so terrible - cold, miserable and rainy, and now I know how utterly different running on the Wii is I didn't even get myself motivated to do that instead. Will get off my behind and get back into the jogging v soon!

Mel,

I just looked at the suitcase you got your daughter......I LOVE THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Kristin & Laura

They are soooo cute aren't they?! I am going to unpack it from it's box tonight but Isabelle won't see it until we go. I am going to put lots of little treats for the plane in there, new colouring books, magnetic dress up dolls etc to keep her amused on the 9 hour flight from the UK!

Sorry you are feeling poorly Laura, I think everyone seems to be suffering lately with one bug or another. My Mum and my DH are both feeling rough with a temperature, sore throat and headaches. Of course over here everyone is so hyped up and panicked about Swine Flu that they are getting really worried - I wish the media would do some more sensible less sensationalist reporting on it :(

I hope you are feeling better soon and it is just a lirrle virus that passes quickly and doesn't disrupt your packing and preparations too much!

Hope everyone has a good day, I am off to watch Izzys ballet in an hour and then have a lunch date with her whle Olivia has a lunch time sleep!

This afternoon if the weather stays dry we may visit our local farm park.

I am SO SORRY that you are not feeling well today! It sounds exactly like what I am dealing with!!!!

It started out with a sore throat and a slightly runny nose. It got WORSE!

Turned to a sore throat and a REALLY RUNNY nose! Plus, I felt really tired.

Then it got BETTER! :goodvibes Today my throat does not hurt at all and my nose is only a little runny.

BUT...it feels like I am going to now have a cough! :scared1:

I have tried hard to rest, drink lots of OJ and tea, take plenty of cold medicines and last night used Vics Vapo Rub!

I know you feel like you have TONS to get done...BUT...take it easy so you are well for your trip!!!!

Here are some questions to help us think happy Disney thoughts for the day:

1. When you first get on board, where are you planning on eating lunch?
Probably Topsider's

2. What do you do to pass time until the deck party and sail away time?
:yay::yay::yay:Looks like DS will have a water cast (changing it on Aug 11) so we'll be at the pool. :yay::yay::yay:

3. If you have cruised before, what is one activity that you really recommend?

4. Have you "studied" the navigator and already made plans for what you want to do on board?
Been studying them since I found them and really want to do some of the ship tours like the galley one and learn to do the towel animals

5. At WDW, we try to do "Random Acts of Kindness" and give away fast passes to other families on our way out of the park. Are there random acts of kindness things that you can think of on the cruise?
DH and DS do pin trading and have sometimes just given some pins to kids so they have one to trade. I think that would still work on the cruise as well as the park!

No travel documents for us yet either. :rolleyes1

Congrats to all who have gotten documents and cabin numbers!

A Few Questions to get you all thinking CRUISE CRUISE CRUISE!

1) Will you rebook onboard and if so when for?

Well thats the $64,000 question, thinking about the ports they are going to do in 2011, ( I am booked for 2010, -2011 comes out in November, with a teaser preview in August, formal info in October, When I say teaser,There is an update on the new ship and its planed trips and Carribean ports due out) I think 'no' and going elsewhere in 2011, but book in 2010 for the next Europe cruises in 2012.

2) Are you planning on getting any specific photos done?

No just random ones, we always say no, always plan not to buy, end up with 1 or 2 packages, I understand I get them delivered to my room!!!

3) Who is your favourite character from those on board?

Stitch and of course Mickey, he's the boss, but we will see them more at Chef Mickeys CB and Dinner

4) If you had to pick one which is you most favourite onboard dining venue
-From the rotational restaurants?

For the set up and show its Animators, for the food Parrot Cay.
-Other dining options?
Goofys galley and of course Palo Brunch

5) Which activity are you most looking forward to?

Palo Brunch, Tortola, and my room!

6) Have YOU started packing yet?

We had a false start got suncream, and stuff like that then stopped! I think it will be the weekend of August 8/9

7) Are you \ the rest of your group dressing up for pirate night and to what extent?

The kids will dress up, and very well, but I will done my POC T shirt as a gesture of goodwill.
8) Have you requested a specific dining rotation?

I am on PLA, with a table for 4.

9) Which dinner seating do you have?

5.45pm Main

10) Are there any Cast Members you are hoping to find working on the Magic this August (preferred Cruise Director, past serving team etc..?)

I prefer Chirstiaan and Rachel as the very best CD's on the Magic, I am not Keen on Brent, but i think we are having him. He is too 'Managerial' for me rather than a people person but others disagree. Rachel and Christiaan have been seen everywhere done lots of Magic and good deeds and not taken publicity for it, and Christiaan co ordinated a very difficult 15 Night EB Panama crossing, with lots of issues which he tackled head on, and was always there.

I have had different serving teams over the years, you can request Dinner rotation or Sever not both, whilst I have had great ones, its always nice to meet new people, some of the best servers I have had have become Servers or deputy in charge of Palo, head servers, Dining room managers, or left DCL.

To avoid any issue only put yours on at the port, not on the plane and not in WDW hotels or Hyatt @ MCO they have been taken by mistake.

If you stay at a WDW resort pre cruise you can arrange for your luggage to transfer to the ship for $25 up to 6 cases. just ask the DCL rep in your WDW hotel times vary.

CRUISERS should only put them on in advance if arriving on the day and using DCL transport , or going from WDW resorts using DCL transport or luggage service.

Kind of a long story, but their is a women that works behind the seas named Amanda from Canada. On our first cruise she worked in the kids club and my daughter (also Amanda) created quite a bond with her. On our 2nd to last day of our last cruise I went to guest services and she was filling in. She remembered my daughter and sent her a surprise to our stateroom for her. My DD would be soooo excited if she was on this cruise also.

Your flying Virgin Atlantic as well arnt you? so your eldest girl will get a kids bag, your youngest will I presume be too young, -Are you going to the V.Room at Gatwick pre flight? That has free food, hot sandwiches etc pre flight, looking forward to some bacon rolls VA do those very well.

My Son prefers the kids meals on BA, and I must say they look very kid friendly,I have ordered him a kid meal for our flight, but my DD will have an adult meal.

We tend not to take too much on the flight, bar books and Mags to read,

Awaiting my tickets from VA/VH now, I see in many cases they send them by email now.

Remember to do online check in pre flight 24 hours and use downtown disney check in last day, as they have had a habit of moving pre assisgned seats around, though with a young family they should be good.

Our documents arrived yesterday by Fed Ex but DH "Forgot to tell me there was a parcel for me!" Very exciting. Last time we sailed we were doing a 3 night right near the end of a three week holiday so had our docs sent to the villa management company so this is the first time I have had the excitement of them arriving at home.

All those prayers and pixie dust from all over the US, England, and how can I forget Italia have done their magic on my son.:worship::worship::worship:
Simon was operated on yesterday afternoon and after 6 1/2 agonizing hours..the great Doctors gave us the news..THEY REMOVED IT ALL..SIMON'S DOING GREAT...WE EXPECT A FULL, SPEEDY RECOVERY !!:yay::dance3::cheer2::worship::banana:
Within minutes of the surgery he was complaining of his arm hurting. go figure...they operate on his brain and his arm hurts !!
Today, less than 24 hours later, he was eating, talking, going to the bathroom , coloring and watching Spongebob !!

Again, My wife and I want to thank everyone from the bottom of our hearts for all your prayers. We truly believe that apart from the skill of the surgery team, that God's hand was there protecting Simon.

Although I am not cruising with you anymore, i certainly hope you do not mind if I lurk ...I feel like you are all part of my DIS family and that you helped us deal with the last few days.:grouphug:

How are you feeling?? Better I hope!!

Feeling a bit better...the throat is now fine, the nose is not running as much BUT I now have a cough!

We are 100% going to the lake this weekend though. I think we need to get up north and enjoy the outdoors - time to get away from the cities for a few days. Today we bought all the groceries for a long weekend up there. It is not suppose to be the best weather but I am tired of waiting for good weather.

We did a bunch of errands today...found a bow tie for Paul, bought new new digital camera that we will use on the trip, cashed in Dick's Sporting Goods rewards and bought a pair of sandals for me, went to the bank, went to the post office...just lots of little stuff that consumes the day.

We are really happy that we are finally down to the last 2 weeks! I really feel like it should be time for the vacation to start NOW!!!

Chat with you soon!!!

You're not going to believe this....is raining again! :rotfl2::rotfl2: Hopefully it will end by morning, it's DS last day of baseball camp and they are having a homerun derby.

Kristen, I put that coupon to good use. Along with the dress for Megan I bought a bunch of tops, a new skirt and some "foundation pieces" for me and some dressy sneakers (brown leather) for Daniel. I was there until 10pm last night!

To Do List still includes t-shirts for pirate night (anyone know how to iron on rhinestone patches? there were no instructions) and Mickey tie dye shirts that I still have to sew the Mickey heads on. I wanted to try the spiral Mickey shirts too but haven't found plain shirts I like yet (want lightweight ones or tank tops).

Tony, I am so thrilled to hear that Simon sailed through his surgery so well. Please do keep stopping by and letting us know how he is getting on. Really, I am completely over the moon to hear your GREAT news!

Kristen, so sorry to hear about your Mum, sending all the best positive thoughts for her and for the rest of you. Please keep us updated, I will be thinking of your family.

Weather here in the UK is predictably dull - the odd burst of sunshine but mostly cloudy with a bit of rain when I had my washing on the line! Off out for lunch with Isabelle (postponed from yesterday in a minute.

I am going to complete our ESTAs online tonight - for us UK residents these are needed to avoid having to have a full visa - we used to just fill in a form on the plane but now you need to complete an ESTA online at least 72 hours before we travel.

Please tell me I am not the only one who is getting ridiculously over excited about our trip!

Speak later,

CT Cruisers-possible meet. We will be staying at the Doubletree outside of Bradley on Saturday August 8th. I'm not sure what time we're planning on heading up there, need to finish laundry and last minute packing, clean up (I hate coming home to clutter, there will be enough of that when we unpack). Is there someplace fun that we could meet later in the afternoon/evening?

On our last cruise there were a lot of families from Fairfield County so we met at the Norwalk Aquarium.

The sun is out this morning. It's a beautiful Friday here (although more rain is in the forecast for this afternoon).:flower3:

But with family members going through tough times, I feel the need to send prayers and good wishes. I'm sure I am not alone when I say that as someone reports an illness, you stop everything you do, and say a prayer, and continue to do so each day.
Tony, thanks for taking the time to give us an update, I have not stopped thinking about your son since you wrote about him.
And Kristen, best wishes for your mom, hope the news is good, will keep her in my thoughts and prayers.

Janeanne and I are trying to plan a time to get together would you like to try to join us too??

I too am mostly a lurker, I love reading what you all write....
We are all VERY excited about the cruise, even though my boys are older, they are Disney fanatics and love DCL.
Looking forward to meeting everyone soon...... :grouphug:

Today, was another busy busy day.....

This morning I get a call from my husband saying he is at the Walk-In-Clinic??Ok, why, I ask?? He says he was having dizzy spells @ work. He has a case of Vertigo......UGH!!!! He also pulled something in his shoulder while working in the lawn last weekend. So he is being treated for the Veritgo.

The kids went to play @ a friends house this afternoon. So I did not want Bruce doing any yard work, so I cut the grass, trimmed the trees and then trimmed up all of the shurbs along the pool area. Tomorrow, he had wanted to power wash some of our fence, so I told him I would take care of it tomorrow morning. Then we are headed to my brother's house in MA for the day. I want Bruce to stay home and get some extra rest but he wants to come. But I think he should stay home......My parents, are coming with us so I would have someone to ride with me if Bruce decided to stay home.......

Hope everyone is going to enjoy the weekend. At some point I need to start some packing.........!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey everybody!
I just wanted to stop by and wish you all a GREAT cruise! For the newer folks, we were booked on this cruise but changed our plans to go to Hawaii this summer instead. The folks on here were so great to chat with I just wanted to stop by and wish you all a great time before I get to busy and forget to do so.

keep the ship ship-shape as we are booked on a post-Thanksgiving Western sailing.

My son's home from the hospital !!!:worship::worship::worship:

In the span of 7 days, we went from taking our sweet little child, suffering from tremendous headaches, to our children's hospital emergency room; 2 hours later hearing from a neuro-surgeon that he has an abnormality in his brain :scared1:;a day later hearing that he has a brain aneurism and that the only action is surgery ; 3 sleepless nights later he undergoes successful 6 hour surgery :yay:; 3 pain-free nights later...he is home sleeping in his own bed !!! :cloud9::cloud9:

As much as we dreamed of this Disney cruise, as I tucked in my twins tonight in their own beds and wished them sweet dreams ( Dolce Sogni ), this cruise was the furthest thing from my mind. Hello Everyone! We have been so enjoying our time at the cabin - I do not think I have even read all the posts from the last 2 days yet but I will get caught back up tomorrow!!!

The weather has not been the best at our lake place but we are enjoying being away from the cities, spending time together as a family and doing fun things with our friends.

We will stay until Monday morning and then head back home for 3 days...and then come back up to the lake! It is really helping us pass the days though!!!

I hope to read soon that EVERYONE is HEALTHY! Sounds like we have had a lot of injuries and illnesses. I think we must all need a vacation!!!

Have a great night everyone!

Hi Guys,

Tony - that is totally amazing. It never ceases to amaze me how utterly resiliant kids are. So pleased that Simon is back home with his family and all is well with your world :)

Kristin, I am still thinking of you all and especially your Mom. Sending love and pixie dust your way  :wizard:

Today is CLOTHING INVENTORY DAY! I am taking an inventory of all the stuff we have in the packing zone so I can see if I missed anything. Struggling a little about what the girls will wear for formal night but apart from that so far so good.

I have one more shopping trip to make to get my final things and then I will get it all properly packed and ready to go!

My Auntie arrived yesterday from the Isle of Wight. She comes for three weeks in the school summer break and Isabelle ADORES her. It is almost like having one less child around because I barely see her - however given that Darren is still tiling and I am busy pre packing it is great having another pair of hands around!

Right, signing off for a while to go continue with the clothing inventory. Back later.

I would love to go to Hawaii, my DH not so much...he hates the really long flights. I am waiting patiently for the new Disney Resort to open and then maybe I can talk him into it. The drawback is that the kids are older now and its really hard to get everyone's schedule worked out, so it might just be the two of us.

No they are different!

Let me check, I think a US 6 is a UK 8 or and a US 8 is a UK 10 and so on - so whatever US size you are you need to add two to get the UK size.

Edited to add - yep checked on some clothing labels I have (sadly slightly larger sizes than those listed above LOL)

Hi Guys,

Back later.

Hello Mel!

I hope all your clothing inventory goes well today - it is so much fun to start all the serious packing! I just love the luggage you have for the girls!!!

Sounds like it will be great to have your Auntie there with you! I can imagine that the extra hands will make it easier for you to get some things done.

Are you finding time to get some of your 5K training in? I missed a couple of days. First it was my cold, then it was the weather, then I stayed up to late up here at the lake...I did get out today (I was getting worried that I would be back to where I started from). I jogged a lot of it but will admit to the fact I had to walk some. :confused3

Today, is clothes inventory here tooo...The girls awoke yesterday with a list of what they want to pack!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:rotfl2::rotfl2:

Sounds like a bunch of you are packing today....FUN!!!! :cool1: I think it is great that the girls have a list and are being helpful - I bet they are getting really excited!!!!!

Also here !!! I'm checking my "packing list" : TOMORROW , asa Marco will be on his way to work ... I'll do ALL OF MY MAJOR PACKING (two bigs suitcases , we tend to "share" bags , some clothing for both of us in each suitcase ... ;) just in case one of them gets lost :scared1:...).

Would you all like to join in our SDD ???
In 7 days we will be on the plane !!!!

laura :goodvibes

Morning Laura!

It is hard to believe that it is only 7 DAYS until you are on the plane!!!!! Glad you are going to do your MAJOR packing tomorrow!!!

When we get home tomorrow, I will upload the final FE list and the map so that you can have that in time!!!!

My son's home from the hospital !!!

:cloud9:

As much as we dreamed of this Disney cruise, as I tucked in my twins tonight in their own beds and wished them sweet dreams ( Dolce Sogni ), this cruise was the furthest thing from my mind. Yet, I can't help but think that there was some Disney Magic in my son's incredible recovery from brain surgery !!!

Thanks to all of you for allowing me to unload my emotions on you and I wish you all a GREAT CRUISE and SMOOTH SAILING !!
I look forward to reading a trip report from the cruise...GOODNIGHT ALL !!:cloud9:

Tony - so glad to hear of your sons quick recovery. Kids are sooooo resiliant. My DN had open heart surgery this summer and was home 5 days later and you would never know there was surgery excpet for the scar - she is 6 months. Will be sure to get you a trip report.

Jen

Jen - sounds like you have found a way to pass the time. My kids are going up to my in-laws cottage on lake Ontario for 5 days and then home for birthday parties.

Laura, cannot believe you will be on a plane in 7 days. I am so jealous!! :worship::worship: We have plans for afterwards but not before. Work , work, work - :sad2: :scared: :sad2:

Here in CT today it is soooooooo humid that the sweat was just dripping in our eyes when we were trying to weed this am. Because we have had so much rain we cannot keep up with the yard work - :crazy2::(:furious:

Spending the rest of the day in the air conditioning still working on the magnets. If all goes well we will be able to decorate our door with a different theme each day.

My turn to be sly - - LOL Jen - - we got a package with part of our FE things and are just waiting for one more.

I am soooo excited about this cruise I feel like I am jumping out of my skin with anticipation. :donald::jumping1::simba::stitch::ccat::dumbo::goo fy::tigger::mickeyjum

Uh Oh - Now you are killing me Kristin :scared1: because the conversion I listed is ladies sizes the kids are done by ages so probably the same as the US sizes.

Now I see you are ordering from MINI Boden then I guess it is for the girls...? Really hope I haven't just caused you a HUGE problem - perhaps an email to tell them that your daft friend from the UK gave you information on womens sizing not childs..?

That is so great! I'm glad that the surgery and initial recovery went well and that Simon is home ... there is nothing like being in your own bed.

I am so, so happy for your family. Please give Simon an extra hug from all of us. We will miss you on the cruise but know that you will have a great summer just watching your healthy boys run around and play.

Hello Everyone!

We've been away (our long-awaited Cooperstown tournament here and gone in a flash!) and between that and the time it took to get ready (i.e., clear my desk at work), I have been far from the DIS boards and way too many pages to catch up on!:scared1:

However, I saw Jude's message to Tony above...Tony, how horribly frightening for you and your family. I am so glad to hear your son was diagnosed and treated so quickly, and that his surgery was a success! Best wishes for his continued recovery and for many future happy memories for you and your family.:wizard: God Bless!

DH and I had planned to drive both of our vehicles (7 hours each way) to meet my DSis and family (DH and 4 kids) at WDW. This would allow enough room for a party of 8 and luggage to get to Port.
Now we are thinking that driving 7 hours separately sounds like a bummer of a way to start and end such a fun vacation- additional gas and parking costs make it also kind of a silly option anyway despite the convenience.
We have a minivan (no kids but a minivan- i know i know...)- so we could squeeze all our bodies in there- but the luggage...
Should we rent a car on each end of the trip for about 60 each end? :confused3
or should we get cross bars for our minivan roof rack? :upsidedow
or take the truck and place people and luggage in the truck bed (with topper)? :rotfl2:
or should we have one person plus luggage take the disney shuttle for 69 round trip? :grouphug:

advice advice please! :worship:

Disney Shuttle is an option, but if your DSis and family are staying at WDW before and after the cruise, check with Disney, they may have an option just to ship the luggage to and from the ship. This way everyone can ride in the minivan and luggage travel on its own.

Anyone else is thinking of PACKING ??? laura :goodvibes

Last night as I was trying to fall asleep I was planning in my head my evening dinner outfits-does that count?? :rotfl2::rotfl2:

I have non-esssentials accumulating in a trunk. I have our rain ponchos on the counter, debating whether to pack them. If I do it will almost guarantee no rain for our Disney portion, if i dont, well...

I can't pack my clothes yet because I'm wearing them on a daily basis. Dressier clothes are hanging together in my closet, ready for their bag. Still need to make pirate shirts and tie dyes (but that involves a needle and thread to outline Mickey). I also picked up fabric spray paint to give a try to those spiral Mickey heads, except Megan is at my parents house for a few days so I don't know if I should hold off for her or just do them myself. :confused3

Finished "laminating" door signs last night with Contact paper. What a job that was! I have 5 different sets of ears for 3 cabins, including pirate and birthday. I'll wait until onboard to attach the magnets so they'll stay flat. FE gifts still need to be packaged together and labeled with room numbers (we're still missing two cabins, right?)

Slowly coming along, will still end up spending more time than necessary next Friday and Saturday with last minute packing and laundry. :rotfl2:

Its nice to plan, I expected you both to request, ''All of the above'':lmao: However I mentioned before I am allergic to sea food, do not like mushrooms, so not wanting to get stuck with the same thing each night, like to plan and think thats steak night, thats duck night etc.

And its not too 'sad' really as I will take this PC and its saved to WORD on it so i can view it anytime!

1. On the website (late tonight) - Download the list of rooms that signed up to participate in the FE. The list will have all the families and all the room numbers listed for you.

2. On the website (late tonight) - Download the .pdf map of the ship that has all the cabins marked to help you quickly deliver your gifts once you are on the ship.

3. On the ship - I will have a white board up on my cabin door (stateroom #7084). If for ANY REASON you have a change in cabins...PLEASE stop by and WRITE it on the white board!!!!! I plan on leaving one white board up on my door just for DIS information. People who are delivering gifts can just walk by my door to be sure they do not need to update their list BEFORE delivering gifts.

Please let me know if there is anything else that I should do to be sure our FE goes smoothly and we all have lots of FUN with our exchange!!!!

I've been PACKING  4 hours this morning ... but I'm all done !!!
2 big suitcases + 2 carry-on !!!!!

Anyone else is thinking of PACKING ??? laura :goodvibes

Way to go Laura!!!! We are home from the cabin and I will work on packing again tomorrow.

We are so close to having it done but there always seems to be a bunch of little things to remember to throw in...single size laundry products, single serving water flavor packets, rain ponchos (still debating these), special treats for the kids, tons of camera and video equipment (cables, video tapes, memory cards, chargers) and just so much more.

It is almost time to go!!!!:banana::banana::banana::banana:

Hey Everyone! I had posted this a while ago but I thought I would post it one more time to see if anyone else wants to join us. We are going to go either way but thought it would be fun to have another group from the DIS join us :thumbsup2 ....

Private Tortola Day Sail Excursion: :cool1:

The plans: A full day sail from 9:00AM to 4:00PM. It includes snacks (fruit and possibly some chips for the kids) plus all you can drink drinks all day (rum punch, beers, soda and water). Lunch is not included but we will stop at some beach restaurant (his chef is out of town when we are there).

We will be sailing to Little Jost Van D*** for snorkeling. It takes about 1 1/2 hours to get there and then we would stay there for about 1 hour. Then, we will sail to White Bay. It takes about 1 hour to get there and then we will spend 1 1/2-2 hours at White Bay. It then takes about 1 1/2 hours to sail back. There will be lots of time for snorkeling, swimming and exploring the shores.

The sail boat supplies the snorkeling equipment and has plenty of floating devices (large mats and noodles).

If anyone is interested in joining us for this day sailing event, let me know and I can give you more details.

We received our cruise documents today!!! party:
But now I have a question - do the documents advise what dining rotation we've been assigned? If so, where????

ummm...I have sooo much packing to do!! My parents' surprise 45th anniversary party went off without a hitch on Saturday and they were really surprised! I am so amazed that none of the 90 guests spoiled the surprise. But I spent so much time on that I neglected our cruise planning. Half of our FEs are done but still have t shirts to complete and packing to do. It's gonna be a busy week!!! :scared1:

:rotfl2:

I am like you in that I have some things grouped together, but nothing is packed. I think I'm going to do some tie dyes too. I just have to sew the Mickey heads. I haven't found a shirt I like for me yet.
This may be a silly question but what kind of paper di you use for your magnets? Just plain paper or card stock? HOw did you laminate them, I know you used Contact paper...but do you have any tips for the best way to do that? I can't find the post that Kristin (I think it was her) gave her tips.
I also need to asemble my FE gifts. I'm not leaving til the day before the cruise, so I still have time. We don't have much longer though, it will be here before we know it.

Thanks!

Info on laminating the magnets....

I used a heavier premium paper to print the designs on - not a card stock though. Then, I laminated them with the clear contact paper following these steps:

1. Print design on paper - I did not trim them at this point (if they needed it).

2. Measure the clear contact paper to cover the complete front and back of the design. Cut the contact paper.

3. Take the paper backing off the contact paper. Lay the design FACE DOWN on the contact paper. I would rub the back of the design to be sure that I did not have any bubbles.

4. Fold the contact paper to cover the back of the paper. It almost never failed that I got some bubbles when I did this but they were really easy to rub completely out (or if they did leave a little bubble, it was on the back and no one will see).

5. Trim the contact paper - you can also trim the whole thing down at this point if you need to.

6. Cut pieces of magnet strips and put on the back.

YEAH! You now have magnets that were cheaply laminated!!!! :thumbsup2

You will not find out your dining rotation until we check in for the cruise. I wish that we would know before that point but it is one of those details that I just have to wait for.

I am thrilled that your party was a SUCCESS this weekend! You are a wonderful daughter to plan such an event for your parents - I bet they loved it and appreciated all your hard work.

Now you are done with all the other things on your calendar...time to finish preparing for our cruise!!! :cool1::cool1:

Hi. Okay, maybe I am cheap but I was shocked at how expensive magnetic paper is!! Then I found two internet sites that sell them a little bit cheaper than Staples (even with shipping). In case anyone still has magnets to make, here are the sites:
decalpaper.com or dharmatrading.com

Question for the ladies - is there anyone else "not' planning on getting super dressed up for formal night? My DH desperately wants to "just relax" on the cruise and that means he'll be a little more casual than the rest of the guys in the room. Which is fine with me - but I don't want to be in a gown when he is in a simple shirt and tie. I guess I am just looking for some reassurance that I won't stick out like a sore thumb in a "little black dress"...:confused3 (well, maybe not so "little"! LOL...)

The dresses I have are knee length. Two are a matte jersey wrap style, the other is a Talbots cocktail dress. You'll be fine. I've seen some people dressed to the nines and some who don't dress up at all on formal night. I just want a nice family portrait. My DS suit jacket is a little tight so I told him he just had to wear it for the picture and then he could ditch it.

Jude,
did you order from either of these sites? How fast is the shipping? I was planning on doing the contact paper thing. I know Dharma has great dyes for the tie dyes., but I've never ordered from them.

My husband doesn't want to dress up much since he's on vacation. we are not "dress up" people. I did get somes dresses to wear on the cruise, but they are not long or extremely dressy. They are dressy for me though!:) My DH might wear a jacket and tie or maybe just a shirt and tie. My DS (8) likes to dress up and be fancy!:rotfl2: He wants to wear a suit. Go figure!

I printed mine on regular copier paper (actually Jim printed them at work). If I were to do them at home I would have used cardstock. I trimmed first and then again with the Contact paper on. It probably took longer because I was trimming twice but I saved on the Contact paper used, I just made it with none to spare.:thumbsup2 Attaching the magnets will wait until on the ship-I'm just using magnetic strips in the corners. We're down on Deck 1 so not that many people will see them, just our hallway mates and the FE group. I did find some magnetic paper at ACMoore, 2 (5x7) sheets for $2.99. Some people have found magnetic paper at the dollar store, but I haven't seen any (we have Dollar Tree and Just a Buck here). The magnetic adhesive rolls are pretty inexpensive. I also found a package of 18 self adhesive strips in WalMart for less than $2 in the stationary section.

Your DS and my DS are so alike!!! Ben can't wait to wear his "tux" (I ordered him one on ebay)!!! Actually the whole family loves to dress up because we never get the chance to do so. I still think it is funny that my DS, age 9, loves it as well!

One more comment about the laminating...I have never tried the magnetic sheets because I couldn't stand the price. I bought a magnet strip roll that I just cut into pieces the size I want. It was at some office store for really cheap.

I'm going completely off topic now. Anyone with boys in the 9-11 age group that can recommend a few good books to read. My DS10 is not a pleasure reader, only reads when forced to. The only book I've seen him sit down with enjoyment is the Diary of a Wimpy kid series. He needs to read 2 books this summer. Any suggestions? I know there are a bunch of teachers on this thread so I'm hoping you can help.

Guess I should have done some homework before sending Sean out with the instruction to 'please pick me up some magnetic paper". Oh well. Please DON'T mention to Sean that I could have done this alot cheaper!!! :eek

I can try to give you some suggestions but will be honest...my DS (9) does not like to read at all. I had the same problem with DD until she was in 5th grade and now she doesn't stop reading so I am crossing my fingers about DS.

Here is my list for you:

1. The Last Apprentice by Joseph Delaney (Thick books but very age appropriate, fantasy, one of my favorite series for 10-12 year old boys).

2. Dork in Disguise by Carol Gorman (comedy, not great writing but the boys tend to like the series)

3. Love That Dog by Sharon Creech (realistic fiction but written like a poem so it is easy to read, story about a boy and his dog - love the book! Two books in the series)

I will try to think of more for you but these are probably the ones that come to mind quickly.

Gina,
I checked with Kevin. I have to drag him away from graphic novels like The Watchman to read what I call "real" books. LOL. He really liked "Holes", the Harry Potter series, Lord of the Rings series, Fahrenheit 451 and the Eragon series.
I read somewhere that there is a book series that is set in WDW - with kids solving a mystery in the different parks. I think I have the titles written down somewhere. I'll see if I can find it...

The mystery book is: Mystery at Walt Disney World by Carol Marsh...I thought it would be great and not one person I gave it to liked it (neither did I and all I read is kids books). :confused3

A lot of the boys LOVE graphic novels! I do encourage them with my students but also require "real books" to be read as well! ;)

Holes - by Louis Sachar is another great book! It is realistic fiction and entertaining.

Harry Potter - LOVE the books. The only hard part is that boys who do not like to read will sometimes not want to pick up those huge books. If they do pick it up and like it...they will be hooked! :thumbsup2

Thanks for the reading suggestions. I know what books you are referring to in the Magic Kingdom mystery series. I think we have one here too. Neither of my kids will pick up the Harry Potter books because of their size. DH has read them all and we've seen the movies but no interest in reading them. I have to admit that I tried to read one when they first came out and the names alone slowed down my reading so I understand. DH said I should at least read book 6 since we just saw the movie and a lot was omitted.

How about the Dragon Slayer's Academy series? I read them to my DS(8)and even DH enjoyed hearing the stories.

Also my DS is currently into The Warriors series by Erin Hunter (about clans of wild cats) which is a little bit beyond his reading level but he really enjoys the books. They are really popular and we always need to reserve them at the library.

One last thing...if your DS does not like reading a whole lot, I really recommend books that are part of a series if at all possible. That way if they like the book, there is immediately another book you can put in their hands.

The 39 Clues series is pretty good. There are currently four books out:
Book 1: The Maze of Bones by Rick Riordan
Book 2: One False Note by Book by Gordon Korman
Book 3: The Sword Thief by Peter Lerangis
Book 4: Beyond the Grave by Jude Watson

If you have downloaded the document with the list of rooms off of our website for the FE, please note...I made a mistake!

Even though I try to be careful...I often do the website stuff late at night and do make a few mistakes. I feel horrible because I left someone off (so very sorry Elena)!!!!!

I have fixed it now and the "list of rooms (by room #)" should now have everyone.

Everyone else might want to check that I have everything correct. I would hate to miss something.

Gina,
I checked with Kevin.

The book you are looking for is called the Kingdom Keepers. There are now 2 books in the series. My DH and DD both read #1 and loved it.

Hi Everyone!

Ed - is the Tortola Seekers design yours? May I 'borrow' it to make up shirts for my family? I am woefully behind on cruise preparation this year, and I have always liked our family to have matching shirts on embarkation - and your design is so beautiful! Please let me know if that's ok (I'll understand if not!!!).:goodvibes

I saw something about magnetic paper. My cheap shortcut has always been to buy these magnetic "sheets" from the dollar store (they have a self-adhesive back to paste a photo to). I cut up into smaller magnets and adhere them to the corners of our paper door signs - the whole back doesn't need to be magnetized.:thumbsup2 I STILL have our signs from 2004 hanging up at home to this day! They've never been damaged on 3 cruises. If you want something sturdier, perhaps laminate and then add the magnet?

I do have my docs! They were waiting in the rain in the driveway when we got back from Cooperstown/Long Island vacation! I haven't even looked at them yet! ...ahhhh...wishing back on the carefree days when I actually had time to do a Documents Dance!:yay: I'm excited for our cruise but it's coming up WAY too fast for me...Yikes! I'm not ready!:dance3::scared1::scared::laughing:

I am trying to remember who made up the pictures for the Tortola treasure seekers, I know when I started the first thread we had a poll, and 'custard Tart' came up with the winning name. The design then followed, T shirts would be nice, I thought of that didnt get around to it.

I just looked at the opening of it, December 4th, it was about 4pm UK time when I started the thread, you made a post fairly quickly, I know Custard Tart had the winning name, its a nice one, but after a quick look I couldnt see who made the nice 'Tag' photo.

Yes Custard Tart came up with the name and I did design the big pic and small logo you see at the bottom of my sigs.

PoohJen, yes go ahead and use either logo, if you would like I can send you one without the writing.

Thanks Ed! I am having trouble "re-sizing" - it copies so small, so that it looks blurred when enlarged. If you could send me the original, maybe I will have better luck? I will pm you - thank you again!:goodvibes:cheer2::flower3:

December 4th 2007, seems a long long time ago now, was looking at the first posts on the first thread, I knew ''Custard tart'' had the best name in our pool, couldnt remember the design, its lasted well.

Thank God - someone else who hasn't finished their t shirts yet. I am so far from ready that I need to turn the clock back about 3 months!! LOL. My SIL and family have grudgingly agreed to wear the shirts I am making for embarkation day :rotfl2: We'll be the ones in the "Cruisin' Cousins" t-shirts!!

Jen, the website has been awesome. And your enthusiasm for doing fun things on the cruise is so infectious - it really increased all of our fun in planning for this vacation. I am so, so impressed with your computer skills.

Ed, the tag line is awesome. I have to confess, I used it in my trip planning binder on almost every page. It's a great design.

Have a great night everyone!

Hi Everyone,

Just checking in on here. Made my Fish extender yesterday with my cousin Elizabeth helping. I am really pleased with how it came out since I am usually a bit textile challenged! It is black background, the pockets are red with white spots a la Minnie Mouse's dress and it has our family name along the top :)

Yesterday was my 7th wedding anniversary and as we got married 3 years to the day from starting going out as a couple it marked a decade of being together. We went out for dinner to a local pub restaurant and had a really lovely time :)

It is now 12 days til we leave for Gatwick, I have done my cruise online check in and printed some of my important information.

Today Izzy and I have been to the farm while Olivia napped. We met some friends and had a nice couple of hours. Darren was home tiling so it is nice to be able to go out and have some one on one time with Izzy as we don't get that so much in the school term time.

Jen, as always, THANKS so much for the hard work you have done with the website. I haven't commented on your blog in the past few days as I have had little time online but will catch up with it tomorrow.

Night night,
Mel

Congratulations on your anniversary! Glad to here that you and DH had a nice time going out for dinner. I can't wait to have a "date" with my husband on the cruise - we don't get out together very much!

I think we all have been busy trying to get ready for our trips! :cool1: I have not worked on it nearly as much as I thought I would have. There are always little things that I am working on and it just seems to be late before I think of getting on that computer. I have updated the blog though with all I am doing to get ready - I can't wait to start the trip!!!!!

Hey Everyone,,,

The weather here was simply beautiful today.....The kids had camp for a few hours this afternoon and then they had friends over for swimming and dinner........

All this talk about packing I need to get going on it but seem to never have the time to do it.....I have to say I feel soo disorganized for this trip. I have the door signs done and t-shirts done but that is totally it....No clothes laid out etc........Not sure why but just really busy this summer with the kids being home and all and all of their friends over all of the time....I need to get on the ball this weekend for sure.....

Jen, can you send the password again for the website....Do you want to chat this week about the FE list or do you think we are all set??

Kristin -

I was happy to see that you had a bit of time to yourself today since the girls were at camp! :goodvibes Then, I saw that the girls had friends over for swimming and dinner and knew you must have had a busy evening! :rotfl:

I will send you a PM in a few minutes with the password again!

I don't think we need to do anything more with the FE list - you can check it out on the website though. I will be around most the day tomorrow though if you want to chat at all.

Hope you enjoy your time to yourself again tomorrow! Keep on packing...we are almost there!!!:cool1:
