View Full Version : Indy DIS & DIS Unplugged Meet With Pictures
Hi Everyone,
Today was an amazing day. There were some outstanding parts of the meet that stood out to me.
Brandie - You're cake was amazing! I can't imagine the time it took to bake and decorate. It was truly wonderful.
A cake for the ages!

Meshancorp - the Dole Whip machine was terrific and quite authentic. I couldn't tell the difference. It tasted and looked authentic. Heck, you might as well say it was authentic. I certainly couldn't tell a difference.
Thanks for bringing the machine and ingrediants. It was a brilliant idea.

World Bouncer - Thanks for setting up the silent auction. There sure was plenty to choose from. The pin trading was also a hit.

To all the people who help setup and clean up, thanks for for everything you did to make the hall look exceptional. Jennz and your family, World Bouncer and your family, and everyone who contributed, THANK YOU! :)

The food was plentiful and delicious. Thanks to everyone for bringing a dish(s). Some of the dishes we enjoyed were the Tusker House Corn Chowder, Kona Stickey Wings, and Buffalo Chicken Dip.

Many DIS children showed up for the meet. They had a terrific time with kids activities. To everyone who helped with the kids activities; Sooze, Jennz, Sarah, and Mary, THANK YOU!! Some of the activities included a hot potato game, face painting, and an "Art of Disney Animation" drawing class.

We had a great time with prizes too. Kids and adult prizes were awarded. Disney gift cards, Disney books, and even a Wall-E robot were given out. A special thanks to Sunshine Girl, Scott, and Tracey who helped with the prize pool! Thanks to everyone who participated in the scavenger hunt.

I really can't put into words how totally fun this meet was. We even got the opportunity to speak with Calypso A Go Go at the Dole Whip Meet for Bawb. We called her during their meet at Aloha Isle inside the Magic Kingdom. We got to speak with Calypso, Kevin, John, and Dianah. It was great speaking with you guys and one of the highlights of the meet! :)
The turn-out was super. We had 80 people show up during the 5 hours the meet took place. With a meet like this it's truly the people who make it fun and enjoyable. It's was such a pleasure meeting many of you for the first time and seeing other familiar faces from meets past, or friends we see or talk with on a weekly basis. I can't wait to do this again sometime.
Finally, here are some random shots from the meet.

It was tons of fun at the meet yesterday! It was very nice to FINALLY be able to put some names to faces!
But I have to say that it was a bit weird actually talking to J-Kim and others who are on the Wednesday night chats...I kept feeling like I needed my Mac in order to chat! :rotfl: :lmao: :rotfl2:
Thanks for pulling this all together for us Aaron and for posting the pictures! The cake was no trouble at all! And i'm just impressed that it was mostly eaten!
Thank you for my birthday pin! http://i516.photobucket.com/albums/u327/scarlett873/Aug2008b022.jpg

Aaron said many of the folks at the meet are frequent visitors to this board, so thought I would also add my thoughts here that I did on the Meet board....
Well, here at the Keystone Sheraton after a good night sleep and rest. Aaron, I do have to say that you, and all the folks from Indy and nearby area, as well as not so nearby, REALLY, REALLY outdid yourselves. I have been to a lot of meets over the years I have been here on the DIS, and have organized a good number of them. This I think I can comfortably say was the tops. :thumbsup2 Hats off to everyone.
The number of people who showed up, and lots of kids too, about 80 in total as Aaron said, the amount of food, all brought in, and some so VERY creative in the preparation, even a Dole Whip machine, the silent auction, the pins, the games and activities for the kids, and the wonderful hospitality and interaction of so many Disney nuts in one place at one time. :cool1: I had a thoroughly wonderful day.
And Aaron, with the super extension of hospitality of your mom and dad, Janet and Clarence, you, your brother, Joey and his family, my sharing of same extended well into the evening. Your mom and dad sure are one heck of a nice, warm couple, I so enjoyed my evening with them and all you guys.
Maybe during the day, or this evening, I will get up some of the pictures I took during the day yesterday. Now off for a cup of coffee and a morning newspaper downstairs, looking forward to the National Drag races tomorrow.
Once more, thank you Aaron, and everyone, for a most enjoyable day.:thumbsup2
...thanks to so many.

DH and I threw away what was left of the cake...I certainly didn't want any more of it...especially after it had been sitting out all day...we're bad about cake leftovers at our house. The problem with being an amateur cake decorator...only so much cake can be tolerated! ;)
DH was such a sport about the whole thing. He even donned lime green! :thumbsup2 We both had a great time meeting everyone!

I'd like to chime in & thank everyone who made us DIS Board newbies feel welcome at the meet! :) I'm awful with names, but truly enjoyed chatting and sharing the magic!
Both Aarons (ADP and WorldBouncer) and their respective families went above & beyond to make this a great fan get-together - the decorations, the activities and the door prizes & silent auction were all very well done - and everything ran so smoothly! Major props to one & all.
scarlett873's cake was absolutely awesome and the Dole Whip machine provided by MenashaCorp & family was just the coolest! The Disney Dishes -- corn chowder, meatballs and spicy wings -- were great offerings as well... there were so many yummy things on that table.... if you went away hungry from the meet, it was your own darned fault!

I'll take this one, Brandie. You know that "sick to your stomach" "Please, God, let it end" "Lord, take me now" feeling you get eating at Nine Dragons, attending a Thomas Kinkade gallery/auction/seminar, or (for some) riding Primeval Hurl?
Just like that. ;)
You're right about B's cake, though. Delicious & beautifully decorated. She's an artiste. :thumbsup2

If I haven't said it enough, Lisa, MAD props to you for getting the DWFB thing together. Everyone in Indy loved the Dole Whips, which I wouldn't have done without having your meet as inspiration. Personally, it helped make me feel we were all connected and I know Bawb would've loved the idea. :goodvibes It also felt like the kind of thing he'd do.
Mad props as well to ADP for organizing, to everyone else involved. Hearing Podcasters and Dianer live on his phone gave me goose bumps. :goodvibes
Incidentally, if anyone who has read this thread (or who was there) would like to know how/where to get the authentic "same as at WDW" Dole Whip mix, I'll answer in PM, since posting it would involve linking to other sites. ;)

Now THAT sounds like a plan!!! :thumbsup2
The castle suite tour was very nice. We were escorted over to the castle from Sleepy Hollow by DVC staff and were then handed over to some lovely CMs from Guest Services that gave us a bit of history about the space used for the suite and some of the details that went into the design.
We were allowed to take as much time as we wanted for photos but were asked not to displace anything or run water in the bathroom (I'm sure they had it ready for whoever the lucky family was that would be residing there that evening). DD forgot her camera back in the room, but a very nice woman on the tour with us took a picture of my family in the parlor area and said she would email it to us.
Once we were shown the entire suite, we went back down in the elevator and that was it. I was a little surprised that there wasn't some type of DVC logo item handed out (only because they've usually done it at past member events).
The CM we were with indicated they would continue using the suite after the YOAMD promo is over, possibly in connection with Give Kids The World or Make A Wish. She wasn't entirely sure but felt they wanted to keep it a "money can't buy" experience. I guess we'll know in a few months.

I have to agree Menasha! Your idea of hooking up with the "Dole Whip for Bawb meet" was fantastic and made both meets extra special! And, then to bring the Dole Whip machine to the meet was a great tribute to Bawb. I wished we could have talked longer so others could have talked to Kevin, John and Dian-er, but it sounded pretty loud and hectic with the rain at the Magic Kingdom.
Everytime I have Dole Whip in the future it will be hard not to think of what you did for the meets, and of course Bawb. Rock on! :woohoo:

I posted this on the meet thread, but then I saw this thread!
We had a great time yesterday too. We had to sneak out at about 5:00, so we missed the last couple of hours, but it was great putting names with faces.
I'll add my thanks to ADP (Aaron) along with all of the others. This was a lot of work that you put in! It was amazing!
Some highlights for my DH (Phillip) and I were...
Having a DOLE WHIP (or 2 or 3) (for Bawb) in Noblesville Indiana! Thank you so much to Jason for renting that machine and getting that mix. What a cool surprise!!!!
Meeting Scarlett873 (Brandie) and her DH - who we'll be cruising with on the Podcast Cruise in May!
Meeting MenashaCorp (Jason) and MerriePoppins (Susan) - also fellow future Podcast Cruisers!
Finally meeting Dan Murphy, who has to be the nicest DIS-er of all time. I've been on the DIS for 10 years (yes - I'm an oldtimer) and meeting Dan Murphy has been something I've wanted to do for a long time.
Meeting another DIS "oldtimer" Towncrier and his son and seeing his amazing pin collection!
Sitting with, eating with, and chatting with Disneypirate85 (Shawn and Heather), two of the nicest people I've ever met and a couple we have a LOT in common with, including DVC memberships and an understanding of what's important and why we love WDW!
AND... meeting crazydisneyman, World Bouncer, and all of the other wonderful people we met!

It's a kind of dance workout class. Our Zumba instructor uses a lot of latin inspired dance steps along with other various types of dancing. She uses a variety of songs too...anything from music that I have never heard of before with a latin vibe to it all the way to Copacabana by Barry Manilow! It's so much fun!!
