Hi and :welcome: Don't worry you can find lots of info right here about the resort you've booked and the menus at the restaurants both in the parks and resorts.
We have used http://www.orlando-ticket-deals.co.uk they send real tickets and have been slightly cheaper than Disney in the past, they set our tickets by Special Delivery (no extra charge) in plenty of time for our trip. They worked fine in the parks no problems at all:thumbsup2
Going on your first family trip can be liberating get the boys to help plan your days. They will love it you don't need to stick to a schedule someone else has made. Have a good read of some UK trip reports and some dining reviews on the main Dining / Restaurant Boards. There's also a section devoted to the Disney Dining Plans although the new Quick Service plan will only start in January 2009 so no idea yet what people will think about that plan. Whether you go for the basic plan or not is up to you. We'll be on the QS plan which is completely new to us we've never had any of the dining plans before. It can be a great way to budget for your meals in advance you'll just need cash for tips and Out Of Pocket items.
We usually allowed about $100 a day for the three of us but next year we hope to get that down a bit to say $60-$70. Once you've seen the menus online you might have a better idea of meal costs etc snacks are usually less than $4 each. Merchandise is where your budget can take a pounding but not always.
If you are staying onsite you can use the complimentary Magical Express service from MCO to the resort and use the Disney buses boats and monorail to get around. Get yourself a good guidebook there are many available I prefer Unofficial Guide to WDW and Orlando and Passporter to WDW Resort.

Hi and welcome to the dis!!
you can still buy park tickets in walmart- these are the magic your way ones. now the uk have their own tickets if you wanted to have these instead, they are called ultimates and are for 7,14 or 21 days- they only last for the duration though so if you bought a 14 day ticket it would expire 14 days after your first use.here are some ticket places:
www.attraction-tickets-direct.co.uk
www.attractiontix.co.uk
www.floridatix.co.uk
www.themeparkticketsdirect.com
www.tickets4fun.com
have you booked your car through virgin?
How long are you going for and where are you staying??!

Welcome to the DIS!!
We used attraction tickets direct in January and found them to be excellent, they price matched for us and the tickets arrived within a few days, we had the 21 day ultimate for Disney and the 5 park Orlando Flex for US, IOA, BG, SW and Wet N Wild. These tickets worked out really good, but the Flax ticket expires 14 days after it's 1st use so if you are going for more than 2 weeks plan you useage accordingly so as not to waste days!
Congrats on making your booking - Florida is FAB!!

I keep forgetting to post an introduction... not a new member but I haven't been an active poster for a few years.
Anyhow, I'm Ben. I have worked as a cast member at Walt Disney World so if anyone wants any insider advice about Disney or the Florida area, would love to help out if I can. I think I've eaten in most of the restaurants at Disney haha.
I still work for Disney but back in the UK for the time being!
Anyway... questions always welcome!
Have a magical day

Welcome to the Dis Jase :cool1: .
For tickets-like others we use Attraction tickets direct-even if there not cheaper than other places they will price match.Real tickets-not vouchers.Free p+p.No card charges. We have used these recently for our Flextickets, only paid a 20% deposit(we don't go till next year),if the price of the tickets rise-we don't pay extra+if the price of the ticket drops we get them for the cheaper price.Balance due 6 weeks before we fly.
For WDW tickets i use Undercover Tourist,i only use these because we don't stay on-site+only visit for 7 days+don't visit water parks. They sell MYW base tockets which are perfect for us.There prices are in $$,free del to the UK,real tickets not vouchers+are not valid until activated.(i bought in 2007)
There are 4 of us-2 adults+2 children(7+3)
so 7 day MYW WDW tickets+14 day Orlando flex tickets came out at **£800**.

Can't help with car as we don't drive.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Spends-such a difficult question to answer-----Our circumstances is this----
We are not 'shop-a-holics',although we may come back with trainers,t-shirts+some clothes for the girls. We are not 'alcoholics' although the odd Bahama Mama or Strawberry Pina Colada+some beer may make an appearance with dinner. We are 'food-a-holics'-we don't stay onsite-so therefore don't eat onsite(this does save loads of $$).For brekkie we will eat at a buffet(our hotel does a free one-so saving $$ there). When we are in a park,me+hubby will share a counter service meal, girls will be sharing a childs meal for lunch(saves $$+waste of food). For dinner we always eat on I-Drive(as this is where we stay). We do have the odd meal at City Walk or Dowtown Disney. We buy souvenirs for family-only little items.Girls will have there own spending money.
We have worked out our money to $230 a day(as we already have our spending money sorted(pre paid card+$$)+have just divided it between 16 days).YES-this is way too much, but we don't have credit cards to fall back on if we run out.Whatever money is left goes on to the next day+so on.We will deffinatley be returning with some $$-we always do :thumbsup2 .
(character meal for dd7 birthday, pre paid photopass, maid service, has all been taken into account).
I have gone on long enough now so will hush for a while.x.
Do i get a big kiss now as well-:lmao: .x.

Hey, if we're on for a kiss-fest, count me in! :teeth:
A very warm welcome to the DIS, Jase. There are two resorts at Port Orleans - French Quarter and Riverside. They're next door to one another, but not near Epcot. Or, rather, they're very close to Epcot, but it's not easily accessible (i.e. you can't walk, or take a water taxi - you'll be relying on buses or your own transport). You can take a water taxi to Downtown Disney.
The nearest Wal-Mart is on Palm Parkway. There's a quiet back route, or a more well-trodden, but busier one.
We tend to take the "back route", partly because it avoids the heavy traffic on Hotel Plaza Boulevard and the Apopka-Vineland Road, but also because we like to have a nose around. If you're interested in seeing some "behind the scenes" areas, take a right out of the Port Orleans entrance onto Bonnet Creek Parkway and then another right as you hit the t-junction, onto Vista Blvd. Follow this for a short distance until you reach another t-junction and then turn right. This will take you to the junction of Palm Parkway and Apopka-Vineland Road. You'll have the Orlando Ale House on your left as you approach the lights and you just need to go straight across onto Palm Parkway. (*) Follow it until it becomes Turkey Lake Road. WalMart is on your left shortly after the junction with the 528 Beachline Expressway (formerly the Bee Line Expressway).
Alternatively, turn left onto Bonnet Creek Parkway as you leave the resort and then take another left onto Community Drive. Follow this past the entrances to Old Key West and Saratoga Springs and then turn right onto Buena Vista Drive. At the lights, bear left onto Hotel Plaza Blvd. This will take you past all the onsite non-Disney hotels. At the end of this road turn left onto the 535 Apopka-Vineland Road. At the next set of lights, turn right onto Palm Parkway and follow the directions from (*) above. :thumbsup2

Welcome to the DIS!
We've used Attraction Tickets Direct for both Universal tickets in Orlando and Portaventura, Spain. They are great. For the Orlando ones, we collected them electronically at the gate and we were very nervous but all went well and I would reccommend this method to anyone.
When are you going? This site will give you the park opening times which will help with the planning. Our last trip was 2007 and we ate mostly onsite and enjoyed it. Hard Rock Cafe is great.
Welcome again and enjoy the planning! :dance3:

Welcome.
I don't think its really possible to compare 2 families spending in Florida, everyone does so many different things, eat at different places.
I have just spent the last hour checking Visa statement that came this morning for this months trip, there for 24 nights, for 3 adults spent just under £1,500, but that included over $300(£161) of gas as we did loads of driving. That was everything we spent, Food, tips, gifts, tolls, drinks, snacks, $60 carparking, things like washpowder, air freshner, toothpaste, bug sprays, medication to bring home, everything.

Oh that's put my mind at rest! I was worried I wasn't going to have enough. I should have £1100 for myself and two children. We won't have a car so no gas, tolls or parking, and I'm hoping to get most dinners booked and paid for before we go.

Everyone is different,it is a question that is asked so much on these forums. But by having an insight of what others spend you may be able to slightly compare yourself to another family.I think you have enough-if that helps. We always take much more than is ever needed, but that is because i don't have credit cards to fall back on,which alot of people do.It's a great feeling to know that i will be coming home with $$ which then goes towards our next holiday spending money.
I remember when me+hubby went on our own back in 2003-i believe we took approx $2,000 which was way too much for just the 2 of us.x.

Hi Gem
Our £1,500 also included things like 2 shirts, 3 pairs of trainers (2 reebok, 1 converse) bags full of stuff from Michaels (relocating sale 70% off everything), things for a new baby in the family. So I think you should be OK with around £1,100. We don't usually do so much shopping, our daily spend is usually around £50/day, went mad this time.
Will cost more if you eat onsite though.
Will you have a credit card with you just incase? I am sure you will have enough but not easy to budget for a trip to Florida.:goodvibes

I don't have a credit card, I wouldn't trust myself lol. I will have a debit card with me if I really need it, but I was going to divide the money up into days and only take that much out with us so we can't spend more.
If I want something more expensive, then I'll have to wait a couple of days and rollover lol

i was perfectly fine until the backwards portion....the ride up to that point is pretty mild, relatively speaking...
but the backwards part was fast for me...
i don't mind going backwards, but it turned out it was too intense for me...
but only because i have a severe motion sickness problem....
as a ride, it really isn't intense at all....years ago, before i had this problem, i would have loved the ride....
however, i was really glad i rode it once....i won't ride it again, but it was fun to ride it once.....

i don't mind going backwards, but it turned out it was too intense for me...
but only because i have a severe motion sickness problem....
as a ride, it really isn't intense at all....years ago, before i had this problem, i would have loved the ride....
however, i was really glad i rode it once....i won't ride it again, but it was fun to ride it once.....
Thanks.I don't suffer with motion sickness-so i may be alright :confused3 .Although i can't be spun on the teacups really fast or i feel faint/dizzy+get a sick feeling.I think i will try+be brave-easier said than done :rotfl: .x.

Amazing how many people can handle any roller coaster but kids spinning rides-oh NO :lmao: .
I went on Storm Force(next to hulk)with dd who was 3 at the time-and i felt like such a wuss,i would'nt let her spin it.Yet there were kids as young as dd+younger getting the life spun out of them+there's me green as the hulk and wanting to get off :lmao: .x.

At least you would have blended in when you got off. :rotfl:
Seriously though I feel sorry for you all as I would hate not to be able to ride all the rollercoasters...

Thanks-:lmao: .
On a serious note-it is a horrible feeling i get when i don't feel like i can't ride the rides. It worries me that something will happen to me because of the fright i believe i will have when on one.Or i will have an asthma attack+not be able to get to my pump.I try not to let my girls see me worried though as i would'nt want them to feel the way i do.I'm also worrying about dd7 next year as there will be so much more she can go on-thankfully she can't get on the likes of the Hulk, duelling dragons etc...:worship: .x.
maybe you'll love it...
Or blinking hate it+end up crying+wanting my Grandad :lmao: .
I am also going to try Tower Of Terror,as dd7 wants to ride it+she said 'be brave Mummy-i will hold your hand' bless her.x.
