Locals...(or anyone!) please tell me about any really good restaurants in the area?!

Hi there

We will be spending 4 days at the Disneyland Resort and plan on eating at the Blue Bayou and Hook's Pointe, but are there any really good restaurants in the Anaheim area? We will have a car and I like to 'eat like a local' when we travel...

Thanks for any suggestions!
(I have heard that I must try Wahoo's Fish Tacos...anything else?!)

If you want to eat upscale, there are two EXCELLENT restaurants in Anaheim, not too far from Disneyland: Thee White House and Mr. Stox. These are both very nice restaurants with excellent food, but they are pricey.

I do have the Anaheim Visitors Guide and The White House jumped out at me...
is it the kind of place one could bring 2 boys (they are used to eating out in nice places and can behave when threatened ;)) ages 7&9? Or is it just too upscale for kids?

What would you recommend at White House?
What about at Mr. Stox?...(I see they have a childrens menu)

Honestly, I think Thee White House would not be for kids, it is very quiet inside and the one time I ate there there were no kids in sight. Mr. Stox would be okay, though, it is a much larger restaurant, and although it is upscale as well, it is a little noisier and more bustling and kids would fit in there. The noise level is VERY subdued at Thee White House.

I can't remember specifically what I had at Mr. Stox but the menu was quite varied and it was good! Enjoy! :)

There is a restaurant in the city of Orange called the Orange County Mining Company that the boys might like. It's probably about 20 minutes east of Disneyland on the side of a hill that overlooks Orange and Anaheim. Steak and seafood type meals $12-$20. The restaurant looks like an old mine building. Waiters dressed like miners, salads on pie tins, water in jelly glasses, etc. You get a wonderful view of the smog over Anaheim stadium just before sunset (LOL), but the city lights make for a great view after sunset. Haven't been recently, but just writing about it makes me think it's time to make a reservation.

Claimjumper and Northwoods Inn.
Both casual, but great food.
Claimjumper has lots of great food and great salad bar. (They have a website so you can check out their menu).
Northwoods inn has a great variety of food, if you're looking for something more upscale (although the restaurant really isn't fancy). Try their cheesebread, salad, and lobster tail, along with a big baked potato. mmmmmmm

Hey Shannon!

I can definately second that vote for the Northwoods Inn. We've been going there since I was a kid! It's in a HUGE log cabin with fake snow on the roof. The boys will get a kick out of throwing peanut shells on their sawdust covered floor. And I'm sure your hubby will enjoy
the paintings on the walls! :o They're known for their humungeous baked potatoes and their cheese bread. I'd also like to recommend Mimi's Cafe. A lovely place for lunch

We like North woods inn also. Another one I love is Knotts berry farm. There chicken dinner and biscuits is the best. The prices aren't too bad, and there's other shops to visit. They have 3 hour parking free.
