Hi,
We were thinking of booking the private photographer for our trip to get shots of my DW and myself....Is it worth it, we have no portraits of ourselves done professionally.
How does it work?

We did the photo pass photo shoot at the Grand Floridian in June. The pictures were fine, but I have heard that the prices have gone up a lot! We are going to try and go back next year and I was wanting to do another shoot but not at the prices they are asking now. I will take my camera and tripod and do it myself.

we also went in june this year, i found it excellent value for money. the pictures were lovely and even got a good family shot too! i liked how you could edit them in your own way too, make then b&w, add frames etc. here are a couple..

I'm not as sure about the Grand, but we had this done at the Poly earlier this month.
Check the price increases to see if it's still something you would consider.
For us the lower price was a FABULOUS value! We pre-purchased our photopass CD and got the portrait session for $25.
Other than our wedding pics, we've never done "formal" portraits of ourselves and I was so looking forward to being together in a beautiful location in more casual/resort clothing. I was not disappointed!
We got about 50 shots...a couple are a little dark, but I can fix those later and a few I don't like the location our photographer picked but overall I LOVE the pictures we got!

Talk about timing...just booked by the skin of my teeth. Prices go up as of Monday so I booked a session for our trip at the end of September. The CM on the phone (darling, by the way) told me if I needed to reschedule or tweak the time, just call back later. So...I still go the $99 CD preordered and go the $25 photo session at the GF just under the wire.
DH and I are taking DD2 with my parents. I am sure that Grandma will love the idea. I will have to endure the eye rolling of my father and husband. Isn't there some kind of law that prohibits eye rolling on vacation?
Thanks to all of you for posting such great info. I am so excited about this!

Why PM? Why not share the info?
Probably because it will sound like solicitation on an open forum and against DIS rules. :goodvibes

I doubt that very much. You are not gonna ask for private business are you? I'm sure the info you'd post here would be available elsewhere anyway. Just save us searching for it, Thats what these boards are all about - sharing information after all.
I for one would be very interested in hearing any info you can forward on this subject

You can interpret this quote from the DIS rules as you wish....
The DIS Guidelines are here: http://www.wdwinfo.com/guidelines.htm :goodvibes
""On occasion we get an influx of new residents to our cozy little corner, which we absolutely love! And we love to share our ideas, talents, and finished projects. This is how we grow and learn as chefs, crafters, and gardeners.
However we are not allowed to share our businesses, referrals, or any “for profit” enterprises. So we will be posting and bumping the rules a few times a year for those that are new to our abode."
"5. ADVERTISING: The advertisers/sponsors who you see on the DIS are carefully chosen. While we welcome discussion of them as well as other businesses that you have information or questions about, if its determined that you are using the DIS to promote a commercial venture, you will lose your posting privileges. In addition, links to the company's website will be blocked. Also note that we do not want the boards to be used for solicitations."

But questions about where she recomends doing the photo's and what to wear are not advertising for the photographer. it just gives us an insight to the photographers mind. She is not saying that she can give us a deal and to make sure to request her. Nor is she advertising specials that we ahve not already seen posted on the board by someone else.

Remember the original poster is the one who posted publicly first actively looking for information.
How on earth posting information that someone has asked for can be interpreted as solicitation is beyond me.

These questions above can all be answered very easily by someone in the know IMO.
Thats what these boards are all about - sharing helpful information.

There's an extensive thread on the resort photo sessions on the Resort Photos board, and ToyotaKitten has been a frequent poster in the last couple of weeks. I can't imagine any question you could think of that hasn't been asked and answered by someone! ;)

So I'll ask again - Why PM? Why not share the info?

We did the photo shoot at SSR earlier this month. The pics are OK. DH ended up winning a certificate for the photo shoot and CD at Welcome Home Wednesday (a DVC member thing) so we got the pics and the CD for free.
We had already pre-purchased the CD and would have gotten the photo shoot for $25. It was worth $25, probably not worth the $75 they are charging now.

What dont you understand?
I didn't misunderstand anything.
You quoted me, so I assumed you wanted an answer to the question that followed the quote. My answer was a shrug. Understand?
